Jul 8, 2024Beyond Good & Evil: 20th Anniversary Edition is certainly the best way to currently play a slice of Ubisoft's past. The remastering is faithful and it has made me realise some aspects that don't quite hold up. The cinematic camera can really land you in trouble and the late game pearl hunt saps the pacing to a crawl. Despite this, there's a lot to like about it. The levels are well designed and intricate and the stealth is competent. The cast of characters have a great charm to them and I'll be interested to see if the sequel follows this blueprint.

Jul 7, 2024Beyond Good & Evil 20th Anniversary Edition is far from perfect, but it's an honest remaster. Yes, the game has aged, but its charm still works today. A game to discover and rediscover, despite the new version's even more striking flaws.

Jun 26, 2024Beyond Good & Evil: 20th Anniversary edition might not have the same effect as the original did, but it’s still a brilliant game, and a great way of experiencing one of gaming’s biggest cult hits.

Jun 26, 2024A mere remaster can’t hide all the foibles of a 20-year-old game, but this is a well-crafted tribute to a classic PlayStation 2 era game, that has long deserved a proper sequel.

Jun 25, 2024Beyond Good & Evil holds up. It’s still an enjoyable adventure that will fill you with nostalgia for the 3D character platformers of the PlayStation 2 era. My only hesitation is that I wish Ubisoft had upgraded the more dated aspects rather than just including cosmetics – that I initially wasted money on believing them to be upgrades – only to create more hype for the sequel that is somehow still in development. It’s great that people will get to experience Beyond Good & Evil for the first time. They’ll just have to understand it in the context of the era it was created for.

Jul 15, 2024Beyond Good and Evil: 20th Anniversary Edition misses the opportunity to update dated mechanics and deliver a more satisfying experience for a new audience. It gives the impression of being a rushed launch, just to remember that the brand still exists in the Ubisoft catalog.
