Atelier Ryza 3: Alchemist of the End & the Secret Key is the natural and definitive evolution of this series, ending the journey of Ryza and her friends in a fantastic way. A comfortable and fun RPG in equal measure, it tweaks the formula enough to keep it distinct yet still familiar to longtime fans of the series that were waiting for the conclusion of the Secret trilogy.

Every Atelier Ryza entry has been the best Atelier game yet, and Atelier Ryza 3 is no exception. It's the perfect final chapter for fans of Ryza and her story, but it's also the most polished and expansive exploration of the core ideals of the franchise we've seen yet – alchemy feels natural, exploration feels natural, and combat is a delightful adrenaline rush. It's sad to see my favourite tomboy alchemist go away, but if this game is any indication, the Atelier series will only get even better from here.

The Gust Corporation team managed to surprise us again, completing the phenomenal evolution process to which its IP had undergone starting from the first Atelier Ryza. Despite having inherited most of the mechanics from the second episode, the last fundamental piece of the trilogy has the merit of having speeded up and streamlined every single aspect of the production, giving the player a decidedly more engaging rhythm. Both the narrative and the gameplay boast a depth never touched before by the Atelier series, which however continues to sin from a graphic point of view. Although the title is the result of cross-generational development, at least on PlayStation 5 we would have expected something more. Overall, however, Ryza's last summer is confirmed as a fun JRPG capable of giving rather strong emotions.

Atelier Ryza 3: Alchemist of the End & the Secret Key is another great entry in a criminally underrated series from an overlooked developer. It builds upon the previous games to deliver one of the year’s most satisfying RPG conclusions.

Building an entire series around a single character was a bit of a risky choice, but I’m happy to say that Ryza, as a character, held up as someone who’s worth checking back in on over and over again. In ten years will we be looking back at Ryza as an iconic-level character the way we do Sophie and Platcha? Probably not – but that’s an impossibly high bar. Ryza had an incredible adventure to go on, and now that it’s done, I’m glad we got the chance to go on it with her.

It’s hard not to be enamoured with Atelier Ryza 3: Alchemist of the End & the Secret Key as a whole. Being back in the fold of Ryza and her friends feels like sinking back into a warm, cosy blanket – and anyone already acquainted with the series will instantly hit the ground running. There’s a new, engaging story to become engrossed in, and alongside familiar areas, there’s a whole new world to explore – which feels larger and more varied than ever. Sure, some changes don’t quite land – we’re not the biggest fans of the key mechanic – but it’s not enough to sour us from the experience. What a trilogy this has been, and this final serving might be the best part yet.

Atelier Ryza 3: Alchemist of the End & the Secret Key is the biggest Atelier game to date. Ryza and her friends are just as charming as ever and this is a fantastic way to end the trilogy. The vibrant open-world areas are a joy to explore, and the slick combat and engaging alchemy system will keep you entertained throughout.

Previously to me the game was a 2/10 because on ps5 it was unplayable on the 1.0 to 1.3 releases.

Now? On 1.05 DOF can be disabled, (this was the BIG one, it was causing headaches within 2 minutes)

HDR is not a joke anymore, its not perfect but its very very decent finally

Performance. Feels like a stable 60 without stuttering on ps5 now. It feels awesome. Before it felt like 20 FPS and there were weird frame skip like effects all over the place. Those are ALL gone.

Text size, only small increase, however the background behind it now has better coloring and less transparency, so you can definitely read it now, unless your tv is maybe too small. On 65’ its perfect.

Normally I would give this game an 8, with the above fixes.
Im giving it a 10 now because GUST and KT actually listened to its players. Which is just unheard of in 2023. That is absolutely worthy of 2 extra points. KEEP UP THE AWESOME WORK. (And maybe next time dont release too early lol)

Everything was improved vastly.Release was really terrible but after the last update to the game, it does not even feel like Ryza 3 anymore. Everything was improved vastly. To ALL THE OLD REVIEWER simps saying not to listen? You see, THIS ^ is what happens when a game had tons of problems and devs fix all of them. A re-reviewed score. Game simps are a serious problem these days with their “dont listen yada yada” game was absolutely 100% not, good before. Not even a little. Updates fixed that. Even their last patch notes 1.05 list the problems that are now gone.

If that lying “dont listen to x y z” bs was not true before, then WHY ARE ALL OF THOSE THINGS IN THE PATCH NOTES YOU WORTHLESS SIMPS.

Either way, game is super good at last. I do encourage getting it.
And remember boys & girls, NEVER listen to simps. Otherwise problems will never be PATCHED.

Needless to say, I absolutely love the characters and series. That being said, I’m completely disgusted and disappointed at the state this was released on PS5. Muddy textures, low resolution, horrible fps, jittery camera, washed out colors (I think from poor HDR implementation) After a few hours of play I had to download Ryza 2 because I didn’t remember it looking so bad. After loading into my saved game I was greeted with crisp clean graphics and silky smooth performance. I don’t know if this was Gust’s doing or Koei Tecmo but this absolutely shouldn’t have been released like this! If it’s ever patched and fixed I’ll gladly come back and change my score but until then, I’ve quit playing and will come back when it no longer looks and plays like garbage and I can enjoy my experience instead of continually exclaiming, “Eeew…WTF?” Expand
