This is fitting for the themes of Astro's Playroom, a nostalgia trip of over 25 years of PlayStation and a demo for all the new features of the PS5. A free pack-in game is a new feature by today's standards.

    The gameplay in Astro's Playroom is perfect.    Amazing experience that every PS5 owners should play. I cannot remember the last time I a video game console had a free game installed. This is fitting for the themes of Astro's Playroom, a nostalgia trip of over 25 years of PlayStation and a demo for all the new features of the PS5. A free pack-in game is a new feature by today's standards.

    The gameplay in Astro's Playroom is perfect. Astrobot has a laser jump that will float him across gaps and destroy enemies. (Astrobot is a vicious little killing machine.) This makes the platforming rather forgiving, and adept players will be able circumvent obvious routes to speed through areas. Astrobot also has a punch and a charge up spinning attack that is always fun to watch. Some areas have weapons like a bow and arrow or a chain gun.

    The world is rich with activity. I truly have fun watching my family navigate this game space. The world is overflowing with little bots who get into trouble, re-enact memorable scenes from PlayStation games, and interact with Astrobot. Few platformers have this kind of attention to detail. The total effect is simply "wow".

    For people who play inverted like me, you can invert the Y or X access in the PS5's main system menu. I think this option was omitted from Astro's Playroom because Sony wants you to find that system toggle. The game has a functional quality to not only show you the advantages of the DualSense controller, but also the gameplay features. To be fair to Sony, functions such as 3D motion controls and the touch bar were already in the DualShock 4 controller. Game developers really need to start bringing their control schemes to the modern era.

    The climbing section of Astro's Playroom is the perfect example of how innovative a game can be. Astrobot climbs into a monkey robot suit (one of 3 robot suits in the game) and has to use a combination of the left and right triggers and the motion controls to climb up a mountain that is studded with handholds and hanging bars. I have never been so taxed to move in a PlayStation game and I loved it. Climbing in games vacillates between a slow moving chore and the game auto-climbing your character up walls while you hold down X. Astrobot's Playroom is the first time I have seen climbing get gamefide.

    In addition to being an utter joy to play, Astrobot is also a quick Platifnum trophy for those who care about that kind of thing. I usually have disdain for in-game collectibles though I am a completionist at heart and if the burden of collectibles is not too high, I may go for it. The collectibles in Astro's Playroom fill up a showroom of 5 generations of PlayStation gear surround by giant murals. The number of collectibles is not only management, you have a sense of something to show for your effort.

    All-in-all, Astro's Playroom is a must play. When you buy a PS5, you may be excited to get into one of the many AAA games for PS5. Wait on those. Soak in all the goodness of Astro's Playroom first.    … Expand

    I'm giving it almost a 10 for being free and very fun! Glad it comes with the PS5 and showcases beautifully the features and capabilities of the DualSense! I know why the game isn't as long as I would've wanted but it's understandable. If you get a PS5 play it!

    It’s an amazing game that fully uses Dualsense capabilities to make an amazing, truly next gen experiencia, I bet everyone that owns a PS5 , and is a PlayStation fan is going to love it, it’s full of Easter egg and collectibles about PlayStation history.

    This is an awesome introduction to the capabilities of the PS5 console and dualshock controller. Great level design and fun gameplay. The collectibles are another plus as they cover the history of Playstation. Definitely a must play as soon as you turn on your new console!

    One of the best platform games ever. The gameplay is fluid and awesome. The graphics are amazing and very pretty. It is also full of easter eggs of playstation history. And the best part, the game is free. You should definitily play this amazing game. Another awesome game from SIE Japan Studio and Team ASOBI!

    A real premium experience for what is essentially a free game. The perfect PS5 showcase, the game is such a great intro to the PS5 and is really fun. I loved the references throughout to the history of PlayStation.

    It's ok. The constant references are cool, and the base platforming is rock solid, but the gimmicks (especially the monkey part) can get annoying. Its also incredibly short, running at only about 2 hours. Obviously this isn't a huge problem since you're not paying anything to get it, but don't expect it to keep you interested much longer than how long it'll take for a bigger and betterIt's ok.     Astro's Playroom is a 3D platformer that comes pre-installed on all PlayStation 5 consoles. It’s only a couple of hours long, but as a demonstration of the capabilities of the new Duel Sense controller and a celebration of the history of PlayStation its pretty effective.

It is quite short and will not keep you busy unless you want the platinum trophy, but SONY clearly nailed it if that is how they want to introduce their new hardware to us.     Great 3D platformer to showcase PS5 new controller. It is really simple and short game, but yet so fun to play and max out. Finding all the collectibles and references was a real joy. It is good to take a break from "real" grim titles like Cyberpunk, to just remind yourself what gaming really is about – joy and relax.
    Pros:

    Fun game and amazing for people that know they'll PlayStation history , I got a platinum it because I just enjoyed it that much and I cannot recommend it more it is free so you have no excuse not to play it

    I just platinumed this game and all I can say is, WOW!
    I now understand why everyone that tried this out prior to the PS5 launch said that it can't be explained, you have to experience it.
    How they showcased everything on what the DualSense can do, it's just amazing.
    The game it self is fun, nice looking platformer and I hope to see more of Astro in the future.

    I expected to hate it. I thought it was vapid shovelware but I was wrong. It is a charming love letter to the playstation's history and is a great demo of all of the new ps5 controller functions. The haptic feedback is great. You can feel the grass as you trot along, the wind as you struggle against it and the water as you dive in. I did not expect the poignant 'oof' moments this game gaveI expected to hate it. I thought it was vapid shovelware but I was wrong. If they doubled the size and marketed it to kids it could be a huge hit.

    At first I didn't get the way I was supposed to play through this game and platformers are not really a favourite genre of mine so I didn't gel with it, but...

    La integración con el DualSense es, obviamente, lo más destacable. Y no es para menos, Astro es capaz de mostrar cada feature del control de una forma perfectamente integrada al juego: Cosas como el efecto de las gotas de lluvia en el DualSense, acompañado del sonido que emana de la bocina del propio control es una experiencia que nunca había experimentado. Es única.

    Y así pueden mencionarse otros muchos ejemplos, pero Astro es una experiencia que debe vivirse de primera mano.

    Eso sí, es un juego mas bien corto. Aunque intenso es jugabilidad.

    GRÁFICOS:
    Bonita gama de colores, y buen diseño visual que es agradable pero no destaca por ser precisamente asombroso como sí que lo han tenido otro tipo de plataformers (Rayman Legends o Tearaway)

    Hay detalles bonitos, como que las gotas de lluvia formen los símbolos clásicos de la franquicia, que es algo que no puede dejar de mencionarse. Pero en general es un juego que no destaca por su apartado artístico.

    SONIDO:
    Tanto el soundtrack que emana del televisor, como los efectos de sonido que lo hacen del DualSense son dignos de un plataformer de culto. Piezas bien hechas, adictivas, apropiadas y divertidas.

    Y, aunque la música es buena, lo maravilloso son los efectos de sonido de cada nivel.

    INNOVACIÓN:
    Los guiños a juegos clásicos de Playstation son un homenaje que se agradece. Sony de verdad que ha lanzado uno de los mejores plataformers de los últimos años, y es un juego que se disfrutará especialmente por quienes hemos experimentado las consolas Sony desde sus inicios.    … Expand

    Certainement le meilleur jeu préinstallé sur une machine. Très belle nne ambiance et surtout, l'utilisation de la dualsense est incroyable. Je souhaite que tous les futurs jeux en bénéficie en se sens sur ps5. Juste incroyable et novateur.

    · Cosas malas: por desgracia, es muy corto, me gustaría seguir jugándolo. Gráficamente no es nada de otro mundo, y lo peor de todo: te deja con muchas ganas de más.

    This game is a fun, engaging platformer. The only reason that my score is a 7 is because it is so short and, consequently, the mechanics aren’t given enough time to breathe and grow. I hope there is a full version coming out in the future; I guarantee that I will pay full price for it.

    This game is a true masterpiece, and a tribute for those who are long fans of Playstation. The Easter Eggs, the attention to detail, the game design, the haptic feedback, the art direction, along with soundtracks are things that makes this one of the best games I have ever played. It made me feel like a child again, back when games had another concept.

    This is the first game everyone should play on their PS5. Brilliant demonstration of the dualsense controller's features. Bright, crisp visuals, and a few hours of Mario-styled platforming fun. Loads of PlayStation nostalgia thrown into the mix too to ignite the 'feels'. Considering this comes with the PS5, it's a perfect way to kick off the new generation

    So, ich habe mir am Montag endlich eine Playstation 5 gekauft und musste unbedingt den Controller und das Game testen. Ich muss sagen, der Controller ist richtig cool und das Game bringt es auch zum Vorschein. :)
    Das war es aber auch schon. Nette Demo mehr aber auch nicht.

    Apesar de nos permitir uma experiência incrível com o Dualsense, o jogo não me agradou na jogabilidade e história. Seria mais interessante se a Sony tivesse nos dado essa experiência com uma eventual parceria com a activision no jogo Crash Bandicoot

    This is one incredible freebie of a game to include with the PS5 system. Just, whatever you do, don't discount Astro's Playroom as a simple "DualSense feature demo", or you will be doing yourself a great disservice! It's a joy to play, from the moment it begins until the very end, and it will likely make you smile during the entire romp. Do yourself a favor, and give it a play!

    There are 4 worlds, 4 levels in each world, and a pretty hardcore final boss you have to find.
    It's a strong platformer with multiple levels of different game mechanics to keep things different.
    Thers a ton to explore and find, and the platforming is fun.

    I honestly wasn't expecting so much but I've been playing the game since I got my PS4 at lunchtime and it took hours to beat, trying to get all the coins, artifacts and puzzle pieces. I thought I finished everything there was until I explored the homeworld trying to find the source of the roaring, the final boss was was badass, it took me a few tries but I feel very accomplished in beating the game. The credits were very clever, and the one more thing was great. I also found the little vending machine and bought as many of the artifacts and puzzle pieces I could.

    I don't think I've ever felt so pleased with a tech demo/game that came with the console before.

    I ended up going back to it the next day to platinum it. No regrets.    … Expand

The collectibles of the game are old PS consoles and accessories that also brought a smile. If you have any history with playstation there is something in here for you. While the platforming is as excellent as ever there are 4 gimmick game styles that highlight the features of the dual sense. most of these are fun to control and freshens up the gameplay. One of them is a monkey that uses the triggers in a cool innovative way however it is incredibly boring and repetitive for it's brief appearance. The only other negative is how short the game is. 4 levels with 4 subsections along with a boss fight and speedrun levels make up the entire game and it can be completed in 4-5 hours.     The game itself isn’t mind blowing, it has its moments, but leaves you right when it starts to feel a bit stale, to go have fun with your new machine, and dream of what could be in all of your favorite games…
    But maybe playing sackboys big adventure on the ps5 first softened the blow tha everyone else experienced as Astros Playroom more so feels like an introduction to that 3d platformer.
    That being said, theres room for 2 on your ps5, and with astros playroom already being there, tis worth picking up and giving a go to!

Nothing is ever perfect.... but then you have games like this come around every so often. Its not perfect, but its as close to perfect as you can get. I feel so strongly that this game deserves nothing less than a 9.8, so I have to round up.

    The soundtrack is incredible (I    I say to people that I don't believe in 10 as a score, and I never will. I believe that is impossible to receive. I feel so strongly that this game deserves nothing less than a 9.8, so I have to round up.

    I still can't find any single person who played the game that it's says at least it's a so so game. It has that kind of magic like any Mario where if you have the chance, you will spend 5, 10 hours playing and having fun like a kid. It doesn't matter your age.

    I really hope Sony keep this IP alive and bring us more delight chapters of one of the best surprises last years. Oh, and just a note: I was the only one of my friends circle who said this it will be a great game when it was announced. And my feeling was right!

    A beautiful game that pays homage to the Sony Playstation brand. It makes superb use of the new Dual Sense Controller shipped with the PS5. It's an awesome game with great replay value and above all, it's completely free and included with the new PS5!

    It also has some really nice and fun easter eggs!

This is the perfect example of what Nintendo should have bundled their Switch with on launch instead of selling that godawful 1-2 switch game. And I sincerely applaud developers of this game for making such a great job.

    It is fun, it showcases every aspect of new gamepad, it has lots of different gameplay and it has perfect difficulty for newcomers to enjoy it. And most importantly, it shows the importance of exclusive features, that, sadly, muItiplatform games will not use. However it gives hope for first party games.

    Le tengo q dar un 10. Xq es algo nuevo en sensaciones y tacto por decirlo de alguna manera por las funciones que trae el mando haptico. Las vibraciones en el mando se notan por cada superficie que pisas, los gatillos al manejar naves, monos y el robot “muellito” me parece algo increible. Encima es gratis. Y el juego es super dibertido. Gracias.

    It's more than just a tech demo, unlike 1 2 Switch. There's also another big difference between Astro's Playroom and 1 2 Switch : Astro's Playroom is totally free. No in-game purchase, already pre-installed on every PS5. You're gonna have a good time with this cool game. I can't wait for the third Astro adventure, which will probably be exclusive to the next generation of PlayStation VR headset.

    The game is the perfect magical trip around the years of playstation, since 1994. The game is funny, full of references and show us a lot about what dual sense is capable of! Simply perfect for a pre installed game!!!

    Was it necessary for them to do this? No, it wasn't. But they went above and beyond in their execution. I'm genuinely impressed. Astro's Playroom is an excellent introduction to next-gen gaming.

    A great, nice, nostalgia filled platform!

    Astro's Playground give us a taste of the power and versatility of the Dual Sense. As a showcase is great as a game is lovely and fun.

    With all around fantastic gameplay, graphics, design, and just overall fun, I’d argue that under different circumstances, this could have even been considered a game of the year contender. I never realized just how much the Sony PlayStation had influenced my life until I played this game.

    Astro’s Playroom is way more than just a technological demo. It’s probably the best way to introduce players to the new DualSense controller. And it comes free with PlayStation 5. [Issue#308]
