May 15, 2023While Zool himself can be a bit unwieldy to control, playing Zool Redimensioned it’s easy to see why he still lives in the minds of some gamers. He’s a charismatic little fellow, instantly recognisable and rather cool. And so while this retro platformer might not have the awareness or tight gameplay of the original Super Mario Bros. or Sonic the Hedgehog, it’s still well worth checking out if you’re after some old-fashioned fun.

May 15, 2023Zool was a classic back in the day, but it didn't endure as much as other genre luminaries. This remaster enhances what was great about the original title while adding some modern elements to sweeten the deal.
-
May 15, 2023Zool comes with plenty of limitations just because of its 16-bit roots but this is a respectful port that tweaks the original experience in positive ways.
-
May 16, 2023Zool Redimensioned brings back a brand forgotten in time 30 years after its original release, standing out for its still sharp gameplay, an intense graphic style, and some adaptations to modernize the experience. However, some additions that interfere with the game's dynamics and the lack of other necessary adjustments put the game at a disadvantage, especially in comparison with its rivals of yesteryear and with more recent examples of the genre.

PLAYSep 17, 2023Some extra touches, such as camera repositioning and a cheat menu, are nice, but this trip down memory lane has lost some of its charm. There’s no doubt the foundations of a great platformer are here, but after three decades Zool’s ninja skills aren’t as sharp as they were. [Issue#28, p.84]
