Akiyama is my favorite character hands down but when he and harkura investigate Park-san's murder the story line gets amazing, Hollywood couldn't write a story this good. I think the whole yakuza series is a solid 8. The ending what harkura said about kiryu was so good, love the game. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Yakuza 5 takes what made the other series cool and forces the player to participates in them regardless if they enjoyed it or not. Nothing about the combat has been added or upgraded in this game compared to Yakuza 4. Everything you learned in the previous game you have to learn again through the same beats as before because "You got so good as being a taxi driver".

Each side story comes with a new mini-game that forces the player to partake in regardless if it was enjoyable before. I loved how in Part 2 you get to fight a bear which is awesome. But I was pulling my hair out when I had to become a hunter for several hours before I can fight the bear again. Everything came to ahead when in a Yakuza game (Mostly about mobsters and beat-em-ups), that now I have to become a pop-star and learn beauty tricks about how awesome Chinese Medicine is the best medicine. I truly wish I just skipped Yakuza 5

Wasn't a fan of this game, and I generally enjoy the Yakuza series. Not even attemping Yakuza 3 and 4.

As always with Yakuza games, especially the old ones, you can expect a good albeit corny-at-times story, wrapped in some of the most aggravating **** gameplay mechanics you'll ever see. But there's no point talking about that here, as only players who already know the series would consider playing this one, and they know all about it.

But there's no point talking about that here, as only players who already know the series would consider playing this one, and they know all about it.

Comparatively, Yakuza 5 started off with a good setting and interesting characters, but quickly fell down to rehashing every single narrative techniques and plot points from Yakuza 4, with so many predictable reversals and counter-reversals that it becomes dull very quickly. On top of that, our beloved Kiryu gets even less screen time and the game features the most anticlimatic ending in a Yakuza game so far.

Gameplay wise, expect zero improvements, and although the game is marginally less frustrating that Yakuza 4, you'll still wish you can skip straight to the cinematics. Do yourself a favor and play on easy, it might be cheesy, but so is the game. At least the side arc of each character is pretty good and worth getting into. As a matter of fact Haruka's mechanics were particularly fun and varied, and I wish it had been developed even further.

Ultimately, these changes, as well as the visual and mechanical upgrades, make Yakuza 5 Remastered a better game than the original release. If you’re a newcomer to the series and have never experienced the beautiful story of this title, then this is a must-play. The changes made here, especially when considering the other remastered titles, make it clear the Yakuza Remastered Collection is a great choice for any fan of the Kazuma Kiryu saga, or someone looking to continue their journey after Yakuza Kiwami 2.

Yakuza 5 was considered a high-water mark for the series, and it's easy to see why. I've rarely seen a game that packs in so much content, even compared to the other installments of the series which are bursting with side quests and mini games. Though the story loses some of its focus in the final part (a recurring issue with most Yakuza games), it still keeps you engaged from beginning to end. There are laughs, tears, broken faces, and a hell of a lot of dancing. In other words, it's a quintessential Yakuza game that makes for a super-satisfying conclusion to the Yakuza Remastered Collection!

The final chapter on the Yakuza Remastered Collection is a quality one, and definitely one that should not be missed by Yakuza fans. The bigger, bolder and weirder Yakuza game yet.
