This is a pretty solid racing game, I had fun playing it. Mad by the same developers Bugbear who made the flat out series. The game has a very detailed and complex damage and physics model, you can break almost any part of your vehicle.

Most of the races consist of racing around dirt tracks or demolition derby events with different vehicles. Most of the vehicles are old beat up cars

Most of the races consist of racing around dirt tracks or demolition derby events with different vehicles. Most of the vehicles are old beat up cars from the 70's and 80's. The gameplay is very good an can be quite challenging, even on easy mode with simple damage physics turned on.

If I am to criticize this game, my complaints would be as follows:

1 - no local spilt screen at all
2 - no character creation or story mode whatsoever, just pick event and go.
3 - Game is only good in short bursts
4 - unlockables are uneven. I had level 3 parts with my first car without knowing it.

The game is a solid purchase IMO. I think Bugbear should be given the rights to make a twisted metal game as their physic engine would work so well in a car combat game!

7.5 out of 10 for me.

We waited 5 long years for "the flatout successor" ... and all we got is with just racing and great visual damage.
I have fond memories of playing the flatout games on Xbox and on the PSP. Crazy stunts. Racing thru shopping malls. In the woods. Trying to beat that lap time.
So I my expectation where big. And big was my disappointment. The first issue: loading times that makes you want

The first issue: loading times that makes you want to switch off the console already. But only when you play solo, if you play online you ADD another mindbogglin 90 seconds countdown before you can finally *start loading* the track.
And finally you can start the race .... only to discover this is just a normal race with damage. No crazy jumps. No crane arms you can hit to turn them into your opponent face, no shortcuts, nothing.
Oh but surely you can engage in time trials with the best of the world, beating the ghost of other drivers ... no. No time trials. Racing.
OK OK but there will be that crazy flatout minigames like catapulting your driver thru hoops and so on ... NO. Did I say there is only racing ?
Look I'm certain there will be a track where you can face reverse driving traffic ... sorry no. Boring as hell normal tracks.
Oh and there is a demolition derby, which is entertaining for like 5 minutes. And a campaign where you fight rubber-banding AI with a progression rate that almost looks going in negative.
So this game ends up in the folder of "I should have gone to dinner for this money". Wreckfest maybe a faithful damage and car wreck simulator, but for me is boring as hell.

Not a bad game at all, but if we are trying to ram into everyone and get the most of the physics engine while getting fun, we will never be on the podium for doing so. Most of the time I'm restarting because I just wanted to crash into everyone as it is fun and I end up in being at the bottom of the race results... I like it but you know, I'm kinda disappointed on this.

A spiritual successor to the likes of Destruction Derby and FlatOut Wreckfest offers a varied career mode (some events are much more fun than others) as well as a good number of online game modes for players to enjoy.

The racing itself is relatively enjoyable, but never quite feels as exciting as it perhaps should, and in the end it was this that meant I only played this for a few weeks

Downloaded this on a whim as it reminded me of the old PS Classic game Destruction Derby. I was pleasantly surprised with this game. This game is just downright fun to play. You will get addicted to just running into other vehicles and racking up your score. If I had to give a negative, the load times are pretty long and can get in the way sometimes and get you out of the moment. For starters.. wreckfest is a bunch of dumb fun.. you can compete in challenges online, play solo or multiplayer… it doesn’t matter what type of racing fan you are, wreckfest has something for you.. sadly no local multiplayer though… which is a huge deal when it comes to racing games, especially one of dumb fun such as this.. I primarily played career mode, where youll be completing a variety of challenges to earn points to unclock the next cup, each one progressively getting more challenging with faster and more aggressive cars… what makes wreckfust so unique is its pure demolition gameplay.. from demolition derbys to racing, you have to watch you don’t absolutely destroy your car… the rate at which you take damage is adjustable so I personally found the right level for me for it to not be so annoying, but rather a thrill trying to wreck other racers.. and again there is a variety when it comes to the challenges in the form of the vehicles you use… sadly though wreckfest’s charm fades only after a couple of hours… the tracks and game modes just weren’t there to keep my attention… the tracks weren’t much fun or unique, and crashing into other racers in the demolition derby just gets stale after a while.. though wreckfest did managae to hit me qith some thrilling challenges anre races randomly throughout the career… I just wish these moments were more consistent and more varied.. don’t get me wrong.. iwas glued to this game until suddenly I wasn’t.. so there is fun to be had here…
Wreckfest as a series has tons of potential.
I would love to see possibly a more arcady route in the future, especially for the racing… we have enough realistic boring race tracks out there…
    I give Wreckfest
    a 7/10

Sympathetic racing game! Wreckfest excels in its collision system and it is creates a lot of fun seeing all those collisions and crashes involving 10 cars.

The game’s content isn’t very broad, it mainly consists of races and demolition derby. It will keep you a bit busy if you try to 100% it, but otherwise there’s not a lot to see. There is a decent amount of vehicles to choose from –

There is a decent amount of vehicles to choose from – including some really crazy ones – and their handling all feel great. We are finally given an arcade game in which handling feels actually nice and kinda realistic.

Multiplayer brings its pack of fun, but without any real goal to aim for. That’s not necessarily a problem though. Just having some fun is the main objective that Wreckfest is trying to confer.

A must-try for all arcade racing game lovers. It is modest but good!

I've updated my score. After revisiting the game and playing with a controller, the game is significantly better. The wheel support is not good, and I confirmed with others online that they have the same issues. If you play with a controller you'll have fun.

Original launch day score 3/10: Numerous glitches. Brutal loading times, even on PS4 Pro. Cheap AI (lead for 2 and a half laps, only to have the computer spin you out and get rammed by 4 cars, finishing in 14th) is all too common. One of the most disappointing games I've played in a long time. Save your money.

This game lacks so much content. The career mode is poorly made. Long loading screens. Awful music. The racing however is well made. I wouldn’t recommend this game if your not planning to play this game online with friends. This game ain’t worth 60 bucks though.

    Average car game.
Only reason I played it was since i got it on ps plus monthly games.
There is some fun to be had with this game.

I want to love this game because I loved the original Flat-out series but I can't. Loading is slow, rubber band effect is often ridiculous, and the driving physics are trying way too hard to feel "realistic". The vehicle handling is probably my biggest complaint, it takes the fun, crazy, arcade racing style out of the game.

A perfect continuation of what Bugbear has done previously with the Flatout series. They may no longer hold the license to that IP, but they definitely still have the spirit of it. This is a perfect blend of customisation and carnage, with something for everyone. I can’t recommend it enough, and it deserves to be just as popular as the games that came before it.

Wreckfest brings a lot of fun to the table and is also a great vent for piled-up aggression from bad day at school or work. If you liked games like Destruction Derby and Flatout, you will love this. Be warned, there are still some bugs in the game, but it looks like the team is actively working on fixing them.

    s. There’s certainly room to experiment and tinker. Yet for all the fun you’ll have in Wreckfest’s sandpit circuits the constant technical hurdles hold it back. [Issue#167, p.92]
