The open world setting reminded me of silent Hill and the amount of creepy and unexpected moments in the game such as an optional area where i broke into a woman's house just to get ambushed and thrown out when I tried to leave because i broke into her house. another moment had me enter a building with nothing in it whatsoever but weird writing on the walls then once I left I entered a nightmare with giant eyeballs following my movement. Or a creepy ass apartment that is infested...with giant spiders! It's random things like this that are amazing to experience in a horror game. I'm glad I got this one Full Review »

Hanwell was a pleasant surprise for me. The graphics aren't next gen but aren't so horrible that it takes away from the experience. The bestHanwell was a pleasant surprise for me. The graphics aren't next gen but aren't so horrible that it takes away from the experience. The best part of the game is the music, it sets the tone and adds to the creepiness. The story was interesting enough and I enjoyed the twist at the end. Overall Hanwell is worth the cheap price of admission. It got my heart racing on more than one occasion. Full Review »

    Welcome to Hanwell
    A Nice Surprise
Welcome to hanwell is 3 hour long horror game that starts off in an underground room with a roided out monster walking around..
And at first I thought this is just going to be some generic try hard outlast wanna be..
I felt a giant lack of polish, the beginning section felt super mediocre..
and I run into this roided out monster that’s chasing me around as im trying to make my escape… it was tense, but still.. this a joke level of mediocre.. and then I escape.. pick up an axe, deal with some creepy demon girl, go to a house to realize oh were dealing with some crazy doctor..
there are samples for you to collect around the world to unlock an optional mystery door..
I leave the house im in the town of hanwell.. foggy, creepy demon girls crawling all over the place weapons on the ground..
    still not impressed…
and then I stumble upon an abandoned school..
and my perception of this game changed completely..
The foggy town of hanwell is essentially a hub world with collectables and monsters in your way…
The real game begins as youre searching for the 5 different parts of this girls citizenship card to gain access to final section of the game...
Youll be visiting a creepy school, a church, a prison, a power plant and a hospital.. and all 5 of these locations have the same objective, explore, find passwords, codes, and keys, until you can gain access to the room with the card piece you need and then escape…
and despite having the same goal , very location feels so uniquely terrifying..
You have a flashlight with you whose battery runs out pretty quickly and takes like 15 hours to recharge so you have to flash it on and off, forcing you to just push through dark hallways while music is pounding in your ears
you never know what to expect… I had a love hate relationship with all of these places, the church is introducing you to the mechanics and if the first place you’re supposed to go, but each of these places have their own twist to make these locations terrifying..
none of them felt carelessly thrown together
The school and the prison in particular were some of the most creepy and terrifying levels I’ve played through in a horror game, the music is intense throughout, everything is greatly paces as enemies and chase sequences aren’t constantly being shoved down your throat
the game does horror so well.
The story is lacking here, completely uninteresting. and there is a noticeable lack of aaa level polish.. but just experiencing the different levels of this game alone is worth picking up if you’re a horror fan.
I couldn’t imagine what this team could do with a better budget,
    snatch this one up.
    Give Welcome to hanwell
    a 7/10
