The ceiling on combat potential has been shattered here, and using the new tools at players’ disposal can allow them to more or less combo indefinitely to their hearts’ content. While the breezy, fast and simple style of Musou isn’t for everybody, fans will undoubtedly have a blast pushing this one to its breaking point, should one even exist. Warriors Orochi 4 is an easy highlight in a series that has consistently improved (Dynasty Warriors 9 being an exception) over the past few years.

Conquering the battlefield with new improvements and a neat new magic system, Warriors Orochi 4 is a welcome addition for the series and stands as one of the best overall games in Koei Tecmo's beloved hack n' slash genre.

It's pure fun, and with Warriors Orochi 4, Koei Tecmo has done such a lovely job that I suspect I'll be coming back to it frequently for many years into the future.

Warriors Orochi 4 brings the Warriors franchise back its roots -- after the disaster that was Dynasty Warriors 9 -- while pushing it in exciting new directions.

The fundamental gameplay couldn’t be simpler, and the dialogue is terrible… but it’s good. There’s a staggering 170 characters to unlock, and you’ll soon find favourites. With an enormous amount of content, online and offline co-op (if you can find other players; I couldn’t), and some cool-looking moves, it’s a shallow but entrancing adventure. [Issue#157, p.88]

Warriors Orochi 4 is like a dream Musou game: matching up the two largest rosters from Omega Force, but like a dream, can at times be pointless or without direction.

Warriors Orochi 4 is successful in maintaining the essence of the series while introducing new gameplay mechanics, making it a definite step in the right direction for the evolution of the series.

With the biggest cast of characters in the franchise and the new magic system, Warriors Orochi 4 is one of the best games in the musou series.

Warriors Orochi 4 is a classic musou, which takes the Warriors crossover to the next level. Challenging battles against thousands of enemies, co-op modes and the biggest roster of playable characters in videogames are the main features of this hack-and-slash. A conservative approach to the genre that the real fans wil love. Omega Force owns the formula to the ultimate musou and we are catching a glimpse with every new title.

Omega Force slightly tweaks its musou formula to deliver a very good, fun and frenetic game. It's not meant to be a revolution, but it does deliver what musou fans can expect from the series.

One of the best Japanese hack´n slash games out there. More than 170 different characters to choose from and the 2P co-op mode are two of its best features.

Warriors Orochi 4 is an interesting offer, but not completely adequate to the needs of the series.

I enjoyed my time with this blend of warring states Japan, three kingdoms China, and mythological fighters colliding with each other. The character roster and amount of magic flair is deep (even if the combat itself is simple) and Warriors Orochi 4 scratches a very specific itch with its over-the-top action — but not everyone has that same itch. But for those that do, it’s more of the same that fans love.

The honest truth is that despite being a lot older, Orochi 3 is the game I'd prefer to play over Warriors Orochi 4. It feels more fully featured, more well-designed, more interesting to play, and it has a more interesting cast. If you're burned out on Orochi 3, then Orochi 4 might give you a nice fix. It's not a bad game — just a very by-the-numbers entry in the series. Fans of the franchise will probably get their usual enjoyment out of it, but there's little to strongly recommend it over most of the recent Warriors games.

Warriors Orochi 4 is some kind of dream team in musou games, but has too repetitive mechanics and lack of news in it's formula.

Despite rocky presentation and a ho-hum story, Warriors Orochi 4 has been some of the dumbest fun I’ve had with a video game all year.

It serves its purpose and delivers on what it advertises, giving players a power fantasy experience where they can tear through waves of enemies with the touch of a button. It’s an enjoyable Musou title which will keep fans entertained, and takes some small steps forward that future installments could use to great effect.

Warriors Orochi 4 brings back the original musou gameplay, introducing a huge roster of 170 characters, four different campaigns and some interesting new moves.

More than 160 characters, standard arenas, and thousands of enemies to mow away: Warriors Orochi 4 remains faithful to the musou formula, but it’s too easy and excessively repetitive.

Warriors Orochi 4 is neither the best nor the worst of the Mosou genre. It has a giant character roster and new gameplay possibilities for everyone of them, a long campaign and the inexplicable sense of fun and exaltation of games crafted by Tecmo-Koei. But it also retains all the flaws of its genre, together with a slow narrative and a menu system that will not please everyone. Only those who really appreciate mosou will find themselves attracted to this game. Others (and newcomers too) should look to other representatives of this genre.

There is fun to be had with Warriors Orochi 4, as I certainly found myself hooked in once I got going, yet I don’t recommend the game for the uninitiated. It failed to leave a strong lasting impression, and I lacked the emotional connection to the story concepts. If you’re a veteran of the franchise, you’ll find Koei Tecmo has made a solid entry to add to your library. If, like me, you’re still fresh-faced, wait for a sale or work your way towards it.

Warriors Orochi 4 doesn’t do much to advance the Orochi spin-off, but it does bring a return to the old formula, something fans will no doubt enjoy after Dynasty Warriors 9‘s misstep. It has the biggest cast of characters yet, a fresh story involving the legendary Greek gods and fun hack-and-slash gameplay. The issue is that it’s a very familiar core, even with the new magic mechanics, it isn’t another to shake that “it’s another one” vibe. With less modes than the previous entry and some changes that feel like the development was short on budget, Warriors Orochi 4 will give fans a fun past time hacking down hundreds of thousands of enemies, but this fails to become the best Warriors game to date.

Warriors Orochi 4 suffers from lots of problems and issues, and if you are not familiar with the series, think twice before going for it, as there are far better options available on the market. But for the hardcore fans of the genre, Warriors Orochi 4 can be entertaining, especially for those who doesn’t like the open world setting of Dynasty Warriors 9.

Warriors Orochi 4 is not a particularly bad game, but it does feel like it’s trying its best to innovate on a tired formula, but those new additions might not be enough. Compounded with finicky menus and performance issues, it leaves the game leaving a little bit more to be desired than what it offers currently. And no, that doesn’t mean they should add more characters.

Warriors Orochi 4 is a conventional and aseptic title, able to reveal perfectly the controversies of an eternally debated videogame subgenre. It is an action hack'n slash experience that will not dissatisfy those related to the carefree and shallow depth of products of this type, extremely and purposefully conveyed on a pure and immediate fun. It is, however, also a title that fails to renew itself too effectively, and which preserves a too repetitive gameplay and an obsolete technical compartment.

There's too much packed into Warriors Orochi 4 making it an over-complicated mess. It's fun at first, but you'll lose interest as the challenge wanes and you get burdened with micromanagement.

Warriors Orochi 4 is a disappointingly cheap sequel. Stripped back and basic, it feels like a quick and easy apology aimed at fans who were left disgruntled by the dire Dynasty Warriors 9. There's still enjoyment to be found here, with the series' trademark action holding strong, but poor presentation and unstable performance drag the experience down. Koei Tecmo really needs to get its Warriors games back on track, but until that happens, you're better off nabbing the far superior Warriors Orochi 3 Ultimate.

Warriors Orochi 4 is mainly decent due to its total disowning of Dynasty Warriors 9. Even so, the reliance on older and overly stale content mixed in with the new stuff makes for a rather unexciting, if perfectly serviceable, experience.
  2. Oct 17, 2018
Soulcalibur 6 comes as a strong package simply by offering the modes we've come to expect from the series. The Character Creator, Libra of Soul, and Chronicle of Souls add up to a great package for single-player fighting action, while still retaining all of the offline and online options, like Versus, Training, and Ranked Match.

For years the series (excluding the special spinoffs) have been losing their magic for me - the magic that I felt the first time I played Dynasty Warriors 2 on my brand new PS2, or the mind blowing experience of DW3 and so on. Orochi 4 has done the impossible and brought back that nostalgia, and somehow given us the dream Warriors game with a level of polished never seen before in the series.

If you are a fan of the series, even slightly, then you would be doing yourself a great disservice by not experiencing what I would argue is the best in the series you.
