Toukiden: Kiwami

Maybe Omega Force should make RPGs their main focus.

The PS4 version is very serviceable and really makes me wish we saw other games in the genre actually hit consoles.

As a Monster Hunter clone, Toukiden Kiwami is a streamlined game, focused in combat more than inventory management. It's a fun game to play that offers more content than the original and some nice additions like cross-save and cross-play, but in the end, it lacks the rewarding system and depth that made Monster Hunter the king of the genre. But if you don't have the time or patience for Monster Hunter, you'll love it.

Toukiden: Kiwami adds on to an already good game with more content, more gameplay variety, and some proper multiplayer that really rounds out this package.

If you are looking to invest in a current generation hunting game that offers fast, fluid combat and amazing monster designs, then Toukiden: Kiwami is a great recommendation for existing fans or newcomers to the genre.

Toukiden Kiwami is a fun game on the PlayStation 4 with some great gameplay that really sets itself apart for what is available on the console at the moment with games like this.

It improves certain aspects of the original and it still is a good game, there's no doubt about it. Still, if you've played the original version buying it depends on personal and economical choices.

A really good expansion of the classic action adventure Toukiden for both PS Vita and PS4. A mess of battles, RPG elements and cooperative modes awaits you.

Monster Hunter will always rule the roost in these areas. What Toukiden Kiwami strives to do though is supplant the giant by focusing upon nail-biting action and tactical formation rather than grinding. In this way, Toukiden Kiwami succeeds in being a game that any fan of taking down immense challenges should keep a close eye upon.

One of the best Monster Hunter clones, despite some technical issues and a prominent old-school approach. Give it a chance.

If you missed out the first time around, Toukiden: Kiwami shouldn't be avoided. The expanded storyline provides a great backdrop for the property's addictive gameplay loop, and a wealth of new content, coupled with some thoughtful tweaks and additional features, gives returning players more than enough reason to renew their slaying license.

One of the Vita's best comes full circle and now also to the PS4. Toukiden Kiwami includes and expands upon Toukiden Age of Demons, making it an even more robust experience, but there is still the repetition to contend with.

It may clearly take its cues from Monster Hunter, but Toukiden: Kiwami soon shows it's more than capable of doing its own thing and does it right.

A new version of the game that launched the last year, showing new weapons, new demons and Mitamas, as well as the chance to play on PS4. If you didn't play it then, now is the time.

Toukiden is an improved version of original PS Vita game with some good additions: new weapons, more mitalas and new story content. Still has a good combat system but is irregular in terms of missions and challenges.

It's still no Monster Hunter, but it's good enough to attract and retain a few new slayers. [June 2015, p79]

If you're aching for a good hunting game on your PS4, Toukiden Kiwami can be the right choice, especially if you didn't have a chance to play the last year's game on PSVita.

Toukiden: Kiwami is a great port of an already solid game and shines on PS4 with enhanced visuals and all-new content.

It’s still as derivative as it ever was in terms of premise, but with a more convenient controller, worthwhile gameplay tweaks, a stack of extra stuff and a stable, populated online mode, Omega Force has turned it from an “okay” game into a pretty good one.

Toukiden Kiwami isn’t going to win any prizes for originality, it wears its influences on its sleeve and isn’t ashamed to parade them. It’s not the best looking game ever, but the visuals are functional and don’t falter when things start to get hairy.

More like an expansion set than a new game, but with a huge amount of content that justifies its existence.

It's essentially the definitive version of Omega Force's hunting game, as it starts from The Age of Demons and adds on top of that a great deal of original content. Way more accessible than Monster Hunter, it might please a part of the hunting game fanbase.

An experience that’s best enjoyed in short bursts.

Toukiden: Kiwami has an intricate and expansive system of armour, weapons, mitama and power-ups to keep the gameplay interesting. That said, I couldn’t help but feel that the amount of button mashing was excessive considering the detail put elsewhere.

Toukiden Kiwami is easily a superior product to its predecessor. The new content is more than substantial enough for fans of the first game to find the new release worthwhile, although it won't change the minds of those who weren't sold originally.

The PlayStation 4 may never get a real Monster Hunter game but this portable remaster is the next best thing, and a useful improvement on the PS Vita original.

If you’re pining for a Monster Hunter style game on console or simply waiting for Dragon’s Dogma Online or Deep Down to come along, Toukiden Kiwami offers more than just a stopgap.

Other than being annoyingly repetitive, Toukiden: Kiwami is a fun game. Thanks to a large amount of weapons and armor to choose from, and characters that not only exist as chattable civilians but also as bloodthirsty warriors, you can spend a lot of enjoyable hours on Toukiden.

Toukiden: Kiwami is a great entry in the PlayStation 4’s catalog, specifically due to the lack of its genre’s presence on the machine.

More accessible than Monster Hunter, but also less enjoyable, Kiwami is the definitive edition of Toukiden. New content, new storyline: it worth the attention of the fans, despite a combat system that allow a little bit of button mashing.

In essence, it offers a bit more of everything compared to the PS Vita game from last year, but still very little to the overall Monster Hunter formula.

Toukiden: Kiwami is a decent JRPG with some Dynasty Warriors elements, with great monsters and an interesting lore. However, the formula stays the same and you'll be slashing a lot of monsters in the world.
