This should not be considered as a port of a PC game to console. But a separate game similiar to torchlight, just not so well done. Good job guys! Expand

The console version is stripped of features that are core to gameplay. 8 minus 2 for potions and minus 1 for basic attack leaves only 5. When you realize the engineer pet tree has 5 pets alone leaving no room for combat skills, and that pets despawn when switching zones it becomes incredibly frustrating to use any kind of functional build with only 5 buttons. Torchlight 1 and even steam controller profiles for Torchlight 2 had 12 skills plus potions and gear swapping... the fact that 3 dpad buttons and neither of the click sticks (L3/R3) do anything useful shows that not only is the system totally dysfunctional but they didn’t even look at previous iterations of controls that were extremely successful. No research done on effective controller implementation whatsoever. Even a simple map swap using dpad toggles or holding L2 would fix this... They need to update it before I change my rating. Then considering the example set by diablo 3 and even Titan quest which included updated features like couch co-op and loot 2.0, neither of which Torchlight 2 console has (in fact they stripped a ton of features like skill and buff counters, pet controls and even gear swapping for the charge mechanic - another key gameplay element), Torchlight deserves even a lower score in my opinion Expand

Blatant cash grab falsely advertised and released with an embarrassing amount of problems.

I don’t know who paid the professional reviewers to put out such glowing reviews, but this port barely deserves a positive review considering the absolutely appalling state of the game. Broken movement skills and teleports, passive skills that damage player characters instead of enemies, town portals that take you to the beginning of a dungeon as opposed to where they were opened, and a vendor attached to an entire essential aspect of the game (transmutation) that wasn’t shipped at release because apparently the devs needed time to patch it in. The first patch addressed none of these problems. Transmutation still doesn’t exist.

Features were also removed from the game, but never announced as such ahead of release. False advertising at its finest: no weapon swaps, pet optimization severely reduced, the requirement to use an internet connection to play wireless coop on the Switch. Just a host of problems. Terrible port, with very little response from the devs as to how they plan to fix it.

Regarding weapon swaps, for example, the explanation for exclusion basically boiled down to “It was too hard, so we didn’t do it.” Great. You charged players for what was supposed to be a ported translation of a game that is 7 years old. Instead you offered a stripped down husk riddled with glitches and bugs.

Be proud of your work, devs. Be proud of this garbage you’ve tried to pass off as a full game. I regret paying for this.

A terrible port with many features missing. Its unacceptable to have not disclosed the huge step back the console version is from the current PC iteration.

The fact that they left buttons unused while removing important abilities is a perfect example of the lack of care that obviously went into this port. Stick to PC. At its age, and in this condition, Torchlight II is a disgraceful

Coop nearly doesn't work. Characters disappear after couple of minutes, to fix this you need to recreate session. Third player cannot join the session at all. Absolutely terrible netcode!

This console version needs more buttons to bind skills! It's currently limited to 8 buttons to bind skills BUT 3 buttons need to be binded by default to heal potion, mana potion and standard attack skill. So really only you get 5 buttons at your disposal to bind skills. So what happens when you unlock more than 5 skills?!? (TO THE DEVELOPERS PLEASE READ BELOW FOR A SUGGESTION)

Heres an Idea to add more bindable buttons (make an "Advanced Control Mode" if you have to for this idea): By holding L2 will make X, Circle, Triangle & Square a set of four buttons free for binding skills -and- when Holding R2 will make X, Circle, Triangle & Square another set of four buttons for binding skills. So in total thats 12 bindable buttons (Including X, Circle, Triangle & Square without holding L2 or R2).

I love the PC version. I love Embermage. BUT playing on console is limiting. As I unlock more skills, I run out of buttons to bind skills easily.

I registered in MetaCritic just to voice my opinion. This is my first post. Please add more bindable button options for a more tailor gameplay experience.

As a budget Diablo III clone, Torchlight II delivers a solid chunk of hacky, slashy, looty gameplay and gets better as the game gets harder. However, it doesn't offer any real innovations and seems creatively unambitious even by the standards of a sub-genre that already struggles to break away from its conventions.

Torchlight 2 is a good porting for an old good game. If you are looking for a Diablo-like waiting the next chapter, maybe this could be your game.

At the risk of sounding overly infatuated, I cannot begin to understand how the hell Torchlight II has aged so well. The art style, combat mechanics, and even loot drop loop are so finely tuned that it feels like the game fits in as well now as it did, seven years ago.
