    Robomodo strikes again!
And probably with the finishing blow to the series that they so methodically and expertly been trashing and leeching off for all those years since the Neversoft was shut down.
Thanks you guys! Keep those Awsome games coming!

How Tony Hawk has fallen from grace. This game looks and feels like a re-skinned Goat Simulator and is possibly the worst game I'v seen since superman 64. Avoid.

If you thought that Ride was the death of THPS then this is definitely the nail in that coffin.

This game is nothing but digital waste. How any company would dare to ask $60 for a game with minimal content and a multitude of technical bugs, I cannot fathom. Now let me briefly go into the gameplay and presentation: As ugly as the game is, it still suffers from major framerate drops. The "seamless" online interaction is buggy and even the music suffers from hiccups. All the stages are uninspired and could literally be made in the Create-A-Park mode by anyone with 15 minutes to spare. The controls are just slightly less clunky than in Tony Hawk HD but you will probably be to annoyed with technical problems to even notice.

This game is a disgrace to the Tony Hawk franchise and you should avoid it at ALL COSTS.

This game however isn't broken... Skating physics and animations are the best yet but what puts me off is the amount of content, or the lack thereof. This is worth 20$ not 60$, the fact that the corporate sh!theads expect us to pay full price for an incomplete pacakge makes me give this game a 0/10... This is not worth the title of a sequel, I don't care what the graphics look like, they're not amazing still, the online play is garbage. You're forced to play in multiplayer lobbies, and if you choose not to it still loads you back in one the second you finish a goal. Their has always been local play in tony hawk games. Graffiti and horse. Music control. Flatland tricks are gone, caveman is gone. Anything that made multiplayer fun is gone and they made it pretty much entirely multiplayer. Things were added over the line of sequels from THPS1-THUG2 that were improvements. This game strips away everything that was an improvement on the genre over the years and then claims to be 'taking it back to the roots' without the ability to sit on a couch with a friend and have a good time together playing a video game. I was fooled and fell onto the hype wagon with zero information about the changes. I haven't played since THUG2 and just assumed that each tony hawk game included the cool mechanics from the previous ones. Robomodo and Disruptive games blew it, hopefully they save face with a content patch. All glitchy and bugginess aside, the game is lacking a ton of basic features that are expected. Robosucko or any other company simply isnt capable of making these games the way they deserve to be made. I am sure several people already have gone through the laundry list of things worng with the game, so im going to skip that. Instead im going to point out the things that bothered ME the most.

    1. They put lil waynk in the game! I mean as stupid as octodad is to have in the game this 1 move says everything about how seriously they take game development.

    2. The soundtrack is generic rubbish. Usually a hallmark of tony hawk pro skater games this time it seriously all sounds like garbage they found on soundcloud.

    3. Slamming sucks! At first i thought it was a neat mechanic, but oh no.. it DESTROYS all your muscle memory from the previous games, you essentially have to re-learn how to play and do combos (more on that in a minute). I think the mechanic itself is part of the developers lack of ability, they couldnt get the physics to work properly so they added a way to force gravity.

    4. In a move pretty common among older franchises (::ahem:: elderscrolls! ) they have made alot of mechanics retard easy for the learning impaired children of today. For example it used to be when you lost your "balance" in a manual or grind you FELL, not anymore, nope you just skate right out of it and lose your combo. Maybe its to make up for the asinine slam mechanic being so unwieldy or something but you cant chain tricks together like you used to because theres some sort of "safety" animation in there.

    5. No more custom specials. As with #4 they nolonger feel players need to perform quick combos to do special tricks, instead you hit the bumper and you ARE special (kids these days are so "special" it make me want to vomit).. everything you do will AUTOMATICALLY BE a special. I find it insulting, you also cant customize what these "special" tricks are for the record.

    6. The art style doesnt fit. Its some sort of hybrid cell shading and it really just looks like sloppy filth i have been seeing on pc for years.. why develop a game using the unreal engine if its going to look and behave like some piece of trash some indie devs made with effing unity?

    7. The menu buttons are in the wrong place.. (im inclined to call them start and select) yea, you hit the menu button on the left and it pulls up a menu pane on the right and vice versa. So the question becomes did a mentally deficient person design this game, or did they just not listen to playtesters AT ALL? While its technically a separate gripe entirely in just going to shoe-horn in here the fact that the voice chat is also OFF by default when in free skate.. yes you have to go into the options menu and turn it on.. IDIOCY!

    8. Menus. As you go through the game sometimes you will want to add or remove stats to complete objectives (more grind, speed, or manual), to do this you have to COMPLETELY leave the session you are in and go to the main menu and then edit your skater. Since everything is online this means load screens which means a pain in the ass because you then have to go back INTO the map you were just on and choose the mission to do. You also cant simply switch maps.. oh no.. you get to make that trip BACK to the main menu to choose another level.

    9. The physics are just plain sloppy. Some times you have to hit balls out of a pool for example, but there seems to be no real rhyme or reason to how far they go when hit at a certain speed. Alot of the times when trying to initiate a tight grind you end up doing a lip trick or cheesing it entirely (because of the asinine slam mechanic). Its just not FUN anymore at this point, its frustrating. Again as a fan of the franchise i am VERY used to frustration, but when the problem isnt my skills but wanker coding its a very different feeling.

    10. Generic everything, but especially skaters. Why have any more than 1 skater if they are all going to essentially have the same stats and since skins are unlockable? Theres really no reason FOR It! BUT they went through whatever they went through to put lil waynk in the game.. i hope they dont pay that assclown for anything.. if anything i hope he bankrolled the entire development. The skins you unlock are also less than impressive, be it stickers or heads, bodys or boards theres just variations on 1 thing or another. Several snow man heads, several bucket heads, several cop uniforms, several logos with different color backgrounds. THERE IS NOTHING SPECIAL HERE!

Having typed this all out i hope it helps somebody. i was going to give it a 4 when i first started typing, but having actually spit it all out its getting a 2. No really, thats all it deserves.. i didnt even cover the gimmick poewerups. Positive reviews lie!

Most of the gameplay is fast, which is good, but it also feels unnatural and downright annoying at times. The physics are still very strange and unnatural. The music is amazing, no lie there. I enjoyed every song in the soundtrack. But, it doesn't tell me what song is playing, so I have to take wild guesses as to what's playing. Create a Park is amazing. I loved it. But, create a skater was basically replacing an existing skater over, which I find very lazy and boring. Even worse, you only had preset heads and clothing. And most of the clothes is just recolors. Level design is okay but feels boring, most notably School III and Bunker. It feels old and not in a good way. Graphics are okay, but it doesn't really matter. Slam button is really annoying and special bank is not very good. You can basically never bail now. Leaned too much to the left, you just end you grind and so on. Basically, the only way to bail is if you land sideways. I feel like this game was a cheap, pandering, lazy, cash grabbing, uninspiring idea that Activison probably only did this for the money and nothing else. Robomodo fails once again to give us the game all THPS/THUG fans have been yelling at them to do for the last 8 years. And Activision got our money again. If Robomodo/Disruptive Games do indeed fix all the bugs, put a bit more effort into the game, hell, even use the same engine as THPS4/THUG, they could make the series great again, but I doubt it. If they were to release a THPS 6, it'll probably be filled be the one to destroy all THPS fans. I rather play THUG Pro (a THUG 2 PC mod) than this really terrible sequel to a used-to-be amazing franchise. What Tony Hawk should do is play THPS4 and THUG1-2 and feel the controls and then make sure that their next game feels like those games. Expand

Trust me, these low reviews are completely justified. I have played almost every tony hawk, and I don't let nostalgia get in the way of my review and score. DO NOT buy this game, and if possible, avoid it at all costs.

Hopefully one day the Skate series will come back, but unfortunately right now, this piece of crap is the only skateboarding game out. THPS5 is one of the most blatant cash-and-grabs of 2015. No doubt within 30 days Activision and Robomodo will try to save face and make some lame excuse(s) as to why the quality of the game is so terrible.
In case you're wondering, I played the game for a little more than an hour last night & early this morning, and I have to say I'm just angry with Tony and his team for even making this game. It's such a slap in the face to every kid like myself who grew up loving the original games and has been waiting for a better version to come out. The final word is this: EA skate 3 on PS3 is a way better game in every conceivable way, period.
There's one thing I can't stand about this game, aside from the downright awful graphics (and I mean awful; I can't believe this game was made in 2015 for the "New Generation" of video games), the number-one thing that gets me about THPS5 is the gimmicky feel of how the game plays; everything has this comic book -like feel to it that just ruins the experience. Whether it's the overly float-y graphics, or the ridiculous wisps of light and sparks that your skateboard leaves in its wake. Skateboard trucks do not spark when you grind against anything, so why should they in a game that's supposed to simulate skateboarding? As with just about everything in the game, it just doesn't make sense. Another thing that doesn't make sense is buying this game when there's EA's Skate 3; Skate 3 is almost 5 years old and it's simply a better game all-around, and it's more polished! Sorry Tony, I've been a fan of your's for years but this was a total "Swing and a Miss". 'Nuff said!

Online mode is horrendous. The old THPS games allowed you to join a lobby and play with people who wanted to do similar game types. Tony Hawk 5 does no such thing. You are in a random room with 20 random people who are doing there missions or free skating. When you wanna do a trick attack or other game mode you have to enter a separate lobby for that.

What I dislike the most is the lack of customization options. Robomodo completely ruined the "special" feature, it's just a button you press now. And you cannot chose which special moves you want to use. There's no create-a-skater, which IMO was half the fun. (You can change preset designs around, but they are all variations on a few generic designs)
Not a huge deal but I was sad to see that Rodney Mullen was not a part of this game. That being said I can see why he wouldn't want to attach his name or brands to this atrocity. Speaking of Rodney Mullen I was really hoping they were going to bring back flatland tricks...but again, disappointed.
I've previously enjoyed the majority of the music chosen for the series, but unfortunately THPS 5 is a big exception, the soundtrack in the game is god awful, save for about two tracks. Obviously that's a subjective issue, but it would be a nice option to be able to choice music from your own library.
As a loyal THPS fan who's been playing the series since 2000, I really wanted to like this game, but Activision and Robomodo really s*** the bed on this sequel. I haven't lost complete hope yet, maybe some patch updates could fix the frame rate issue, add a real create-a-skater, add flat land trick, the ability to use your own music and and some DLC levels from the previous games (or alternatively make some new ones with missions more relevant to skateboarding!) But I certainly won't be holding my breathe for that to happen anytime soon. If your a big THPS fan I would stay away from this, it might ruin the series for you.

Yes, gameplay is glitchy and graphics aren't great. Combos mysteriously end & bails seemingly happen out of nowhere. Ragdoll physics send your skater flying into oblivion. Missions are copy & pasted. The UI is laughable. Dozens of questionable fonts litter the screen. You're unable to change levels without quitting to the main menu. You're unable to end a mission without quitting to the main menu. You're unable to upgrade your skater without quitting to the main menu. Robomodo loves that main menu. Always-online-lobbies could have been great, but we're forced to view a loading screen between missions which delays gameplay by minutes. It's truly an awful experience.

However, those concerns are only skin deep. The real crime lies in three offenses:

    1. The levels are lazy, uncreative, small, and flat out boring. They are not fun. They look like something thrown together in Create-A-Park mode. THPS1 had more interesting levels, and that game came out 16 YEARS ago. Robomodo seems to think throwing a few quarterpipes and rails in an empty box is enough to pass for a THPS level. It's not. Warehouse & School 2 are reused yet again, this time even smaller.

    2. Online (and offline) multiplayer is a joke. Local splitscreen multiplayer has been a staple of THPS since the first game came out. Online multiplayer carried the series after the release of THPS3. Hosted lobbies, dozens of rapid game modes, observing other players, etc. Online multiplayer has worked seamlessly since 2001. I logged literally thousands of hours playing THPS Online. I met people I still talk to today on THPS Online. Entire communities were built around the game. Flash forward to THPS5: No local multiplayer. Online multiplayer now matches you up with up to 3 random players to compete in just a few modes, then throws you back into career mode. No observing other players. Trick Attack is the only mode returning from the original series. Oh, and graffiti isn't even in this game. We're playing on PS4 with high speed internet whereas THPS3 (with dial up) had a better online multiplayer experience. That's just sad.

    3. The worst part of this game is Robomodo's ignorance when it comes to THPS gameplay. In a combo-based game, the smallest of features can make or break a gameplay experience. Dozens upon dozens of changes have been made, mostly with no real reason at all. It feels like Tony Hawk vaguely explained the controls, and Robomodo just winged it through development. For example: They've removed the ability to bail while manualing or grinding. You just land. There's no risk. Special meter is awful & pointless, only lasting a few seconds. You can't choose special tricks, nor do they require special button combos. Because specials are now random tricks, you're forced to do a backflip and fall while trying to grab off of a rail. Special is now activated with L1, meaning you can't spin with L1 unless you want to trigger your special. Spinning is now limited to auto-180 degree spins, which makes it hard to perform longer/precise spins. "Slamming" is now a feature activated by holding triangle/grind. Literally everyone holds grind before grinding, but now slam forces you to the ground before getting close to the rail. Grinding is entirely too forgiving, morphing your skater several feet sideways onto the rail. Wallrides are automatic now, which seem to randomly activate when you get close to a wall. Wallrides use to be triangle (which is now slam) so now you slam to the ground when trying to wallride. Reverts no longer lose speed (Since THPS3, reverts slowed you down each time to increase difficulty). Removed the ability to ollie directly after a revert and continue your combo. Now you're forced to manual first (ollieing after reverts, before manualing, was a technique used to conserve speed during combos). Removed the ability to dropdown while grinding with R2 (technique used by advanced players frequently). You now auto-ollie out of quarterpipes. Leveling out mid-air seldom works. Wallplants are assigned to a different button and seldom work correctly. No quick turn feature (technique used by advanced players frequently). No wall push feature (technique used by advanced players frequently). No trick variations by double tapping trick buttons. No trick switches by tapping during grinds/manuals. No rotating during a manual. R2 is push / L2 is break, even though Ollie/Down have been those controls since THPS1 and work better. No ability to customize tricks. Balance meter does not perform the same as traditional THPS games. I'm literally not sure Robomodo has ever played a THPS game.

No patch can fix this game. Only a new game (with a new developer) can fix this game and series.

    RIP THPS

The Gaming Landscape has changed a lot, but this game makes me questions if it changed for the good. Pro Skater 5 is about a game Publisher that decides to rush a game before there license expires. (Dec. 2015 BTW) It is also about a Game Publisher that decides to release a game that has a Day 1 patch that is bigger than the Game itself.

The game isn't awful, but it isn't good. The gameplay works *most* of the time, and when it does it can be quite fun. The characters initially control quite sluggishly, but that is improved as you play the game and unlock stats.

That said, there are some glaring issues with the game. The character 'creation' is extremely limited, making you edit already existing skaters with new heads

The character 'creation' is extremely limited, making you edit already existing skaters with new heads and bodies, instead of making your own skater from the ground up (which has been a feature since the first games). Another huge issue with the game is the level design, which is arguably one of the most important parts of the Tony Hawk games. All of the levels are completely forgettable and feel lazily cobbled together in a few hours by someone using the in-game park creator. On top of this, the game doesn't look all too pretty either. The cel-shaded graphics kind of saved it in this regard. Without them the game would look like an early 360 game. And despite that, the game runs like **** it aims for 60fps but rarely hits it, by dropping down to lower than 30 at a lot of points, which can lead to physics-based glitches such as falling off of rails and losing your combos due to your skater inexplicably falling down. And yet another problem with the game becomes apparent, the glitches. The glitches I've experienced aren't quite as bad as the ones reported, with people reporting constant crashing and sometimes even game corruption. Luckily, the glitches I've experience lie only in gameplay, such as getting trapped inside scenery and getting thrown off my board mid-combo for no reason.

Overall, the game isn't good. It's very disappointing for a long-time Tony Hawk game fan like myself. The gameplay still holds up moderately compared to the other games, and is a slight improvement over Pro Skater HD's clunky gameplay, but these rare moments of satisfaction are far overshadowed by the mediocrity and sometimes outright awfulness of the rest of it.

Avoid Pro Skater 5 until it drops down to $20 or less.

The game could have easily kept the same controls and core game play from the originals, added new locations, new music, and highly detailed environments and been a 9. But since it failed on the key element of the game that makes it enjoyable, I give it a paltry 1. I wanted the cost of my rental back when I was finished with what I could force myself to play/

They’re doing it all this time around. But the results may not be what fans of the series have come to expect.

THPS5 is not what you think. It’s not the amazing, fun and beautiful game you thought you would get. When I first heard this game was getting released, I thought it would be very similar to the old games, but new, fresh and creative. We don’t get that here folks, we just don’t. It deeply saddens me to say that THPS5 is merely a thrown-together, ugly and barebones mess. I have many complaints with this game. First of all, $60? That is one of the biggest rip-offs in the history of games. It should be about $5. One of the biggest disappointments are the visuals. It looks like a bad PS3 game. The character models are a mix between realistic and cel-shaded. The environments are very bland, open and empty. It’s all just hideous. The frame rate drops often and there are several glitches. It is just poorly developed to be quite honest. The audio isn’t any better than the visuals either. There are only a few songs and they are quickly repeated, meaning you will get sick of the music very quickly. The game is full of irregularities and inconsistencies. There are camera issues, the difficulty is uneven and the gameplay itself is very dumbed down and bland. I can go on and on about this game’s flaws, but let’s get to the point. This is not true Tony Hawk Pro Skater. There are several glitches. The levels are empty and boring, not to mention the lack of NPC’s or any other form of life is completely absent. The visuals and sound design are poor. I am just very disappointed that the developers didn’t spend more time on the game. This is a very respected series in gaming and to have the name tarnished like this is immensely sad. If you are desperate to play THPS5 for yourself , give it a rent. That is about all it’s worth anyway.

I rented the game, and I even wanted the few bucks I wasted on the day's rental back.

There is little redeeming factor to this game. Basic gameplay bugs will have you falling through ramps on your way back down, and any attempt to play online--the most appealing feature for fans of older games--will be met with crashes and disconnects. Not even the delay of an 8GB day one patch can salvage together the brokenness of this game.

This is a cash grab on nostalgia, and literally fourth from the bottom on Metacritic's critic score for a reason, if the 28 negative and 4 mixed reviews weren't a clue. Pass this one up, and preserve your memory of the fun you had in the past.

I have to agree with the vast majority on this one and say this game is nothing more than a rushed, wasteful piece of gaming that the developers should be disappointed with themselves, for putting such a lack of thought and ability into. I have tried everything to like this game but the poor digital quality, graphics, lack of features and poorly thought out concept of it all does simply not make it possible for me to even give this game a second thought. It's a shame if this franchise draws the line here to end on such a wasteful note, but they have a lot to redeem themselves for, if at all possible. There's a lot of embarrassed and highly disappointed fans of this franchise, including myself, due to this pure waste of money. The only way I'd consider somebody to pick this game up, is if they see it for sale at £5 in a Charity shop or something. Even then, it is very questionable. But this game is easily the worst in the series. I was hyped for this game, a Tony Hawk Pro Skater game on the PS4! But NOPE! This game was a complete waste, and it had so much potential! The key thing that Activision wanted was to include online-interaction. Surprise, it sucks. There is no option to play on your own, messing up your single-player experience. It's hard to pull off the Glendale Grind when you see some skater in the distance getting his board stuck in the wall. Speaking of which, this game is buggy as crap. You are going to have glitches happen at least once in your playthrough. The developers said they were aware of the bugs, and that they were going to fix it. Which will make the game at least playable, but even cleaning up the game won't solve it's many problems. The level design is bland, and there is zero physics when it comes to playing this game. All-in-all, THPS 5 is not good, it's very bad; the skating mechanics are still enjoyable, for the most part, but the constant FPS drops, the choppy gameplay, and the fact that there is almost no connection to the original games makes this game bad.

From my own experience, I have not been able to reproduce some of the more serious glitches and errors in the game, so for some, it might be enough to like it.

As for me..well, what do you think, eejit?

I have played a good portion of the THPS games throughout my childhood and teenage years, and I found them addicting, and every now and then, I go back to them to relive the good days. This game, however, makes me feel a little bit miffed. Here's why.

Imagine Robomodo stripping out all of the stuff that made the games, like living, interactive environments, create-a-skater, building your own special trick setup, and took it to the bare minimum possible. Now, stop imagining it, it's real, and it's THPS5.

Where to start? The glitches notwithstanding, the game feels really bare and more of a beta build of the older games. The controls are really confusing, to add to that. To keep your speed up, you press R2. That was never a thing in the older games, so why now?

While I'm on that subject, why change Triangle for being Grind to a slam? You have a good chance of screwing up a combo thanks to the slam. You can make it so you have to double-tap the button, but a better option, would be to bin it entirely. Even worse, when you're doing grind and manual tricks, you can't bail.

Now, the graphics. They seem flat and boring, as if 20 years of graphics technology was thrown out just for the sake of saving space. Everything has the cell-shaded look that appears to try to hide how bad it looks.

As for content? Where is it? There's around 8 levels of boring, basic parks to play, and even trying to build your own makes you feel like you're being strangled. It's all very restricted and controlled. As for skaters? You have around 12 or so, with no ability to make your own. Well..that's not strictly true, you can make some awful amalgam entity with the limited customise function.

All that alone makes it bad, but, let's throw in some of the glitches that I've ran into. You can end up partly buried in the level geometry when you bail in the right conditions. I found out that you can grind on the edges of certain pits even when you cover them with parts of a quarter-pipe in Create-A-Park. Oh yeah, and QP corners, when you bail, seem to have no collision planes at all, so you go through them.

So, with all that, do not, under any circumstances, buy this game. It's not worth £60, it's not worth £45, it's not worth £30, it's not even worth £15, £10 or even £5, you would have to pay someone to take this game away.

Do you know what I recommend instead? Take your £10, buy a copy of THUG2, and install THUG Pro, a mod for the game. The mod has access to nearly all levels from every game, and even one game that's based off the same engine. Those guys took time and energy to create the ultimate THPS game, but Robomodo got it so wrong, and they're supposed to be pros. Don't buy the game at all, it's a waste of space, and I want Activision to suffer badly because they let it get published.

Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 5 sadly fails to capture any of the fun or engaging gameplay elements that once made the series great. It's buggy, the controls feel clunky, and the game just lacks fun.

First and foremost, the game does not deserve to cost $60. There are a total of 9 maps, all of which feel small and thrown together without much care for their actual enjoyment levels. Nothing about any of them feel charming or noteworthy, instead feeling like 'The token school level' or 'Let's go to space, I guess'. None of them feel like something I'd want to play, given the choice.

The UI is flawed and spends a lot of time sending the player through the same clunky menus over and over for no real practical reason. The addition of a new mechanic, the 'slam', might have been interesting had it not been bound to the grind button. As it stands, all it's good for now is throwing off your combos.

Lots of elements of the older games are missing, such as the ability to shift your grind and manual type mid-move. Additionally, a significant number of techniques are locked behind the special meter now (such as pretty much every special manual like the handstand and most grinds beyond 'tailslide'). Because the bar doesn't fully register being full until after your combo ends, you get one special bar per combo, making it very difficult to create high-scoring lines at once.

The new powerups (such as giant skater, flaming board, and double-jump) are level-specific and feel incrediby gimmicky without adding much to the game.

Various bugs make the game hard to play too. Grinds breaking for no reason, bailing instead of landing a vert... it all makes it very hard to play the game.

Gameplay is nothing more than an endless string of "Get huge combo in X area". "Get huge combo to stop your head exploding" (oh right, for some reason bighead is now a game mechanic? Odd decision), "Get lots of points by grinding", "get lots of points from manuals", before moving onto the next area and doing it all over again, but with bigger numbers as the objective.

Just rent it. Probably no more than two nights, really. That's all you'll need to get tired of it.

But there is an ugly side to all of this, the game was and still is full of bugs, small ones and bigger ones. It has been patched multiple times since day one but Robomodo still hasn't been able to fix it all. Another ugly side is that they removed lots of great things that were available in previous games such as stepping of your board and acid dropping and they didn't add anything in exchange. I guess to old-skool fans of the series it could be both appealing as well as repulsive. It could be appealing cause of it's nostalgic value and just the fact of it being the first game in many years and on the next gen of consoles. But it could be repulsive because of the lack of soul and originality in comparison to the previous games in the series and because it's so bug-ridden. My personal opinion as a fan of the series is that TH:PS5 is a pretty fun game for a while and it has a lot of potential but Robomodo just couldn't deliver for a full 100% and that's just very sad. I hope it doesn't mean the end of the series and that maybe in a few years we'll see a new game in this series which will live up to its potential and won't feel as rushed as this one.

TL;DR: Do I recommend this game???
Yes, pick it up for a few bucks, I just recently picked it up at my local game store for less than 15 € and I was actually pretty pleased to play it.

The levels are bland. Let me start off by saying that. This takes all the skill out of some of the tricks, adding to the bland feeling that this game gives off. Also there is one other thing that really annoys me. Let me explain: in the old Tony Hawk games restarting was easy. You thought: 'oh, i'm not going to complete this mission in time'. You hit start, press down once or twice and hit restart. The load times were minimal or none and you were back in the game, skating along. In the first Tony Hawk game It took me about 5 seconds to restart and finish loading. In Tony Hawk 5 however, to restart you have to hit Start, press down 4 times, hit restart. Then it comes up with dialogue saying 'do you want to restart?' Then you had to hit 'yes', wait for it to load and FINALLY you were back in the game. After a while this gets aggravating, and makes you want to scream. Also they messed up the placements of items. In the old Tony Hawk you would have a certain amount of minutes or seconds to get however many objects, that were scattered around the map. In this game you might have to get a large number of items, maybe 50, for example, and they are all grouped in one place. Oh, here is 15 right next to the spawn! Grind over here and get the other 35! Now let's look at the multiplayer aspect. Collision? No! You are in a small space with a bunch of other skaters doing... nothing. Sure, you can turn on voice chat, but i'd rather play singleplayer. Actually, I wouldn't! BECAUSE IT SUCKS! I give this a 2/10. Note that this is an above average score. Don't buy this game, not even if you want to complete your Tony Hawk collection. 60 dollars is waaaay too much to pay for this piece of crap. There are conspiracy theories that Activision's contract is running out with Tony so they wanted to make their probably final game in the series so bad as a punishment to curse the next company that might end up with it. Personally I think this is not true. Cos' it's just a sh*t game. End of story. Expand

Overall a nice game, brings back memories. Definitely doesn't add anything new to the series, it's good old THPS.

The missions are quite repetitive - you do more or less the same thing in training grounds, then in a high school, rooftops, and even in space. But then again, this is exactly how the series have always been, so I can't really complain. Music selection is quite nice.

    Music selection is quite nice.

There are a few things where the developers felt a bit lazy - there is no animation after you fall down - you magically respawn rather than stand up. When you finish/quit a mission, you always start in the spawn point of the level. This could've been a bit more continuous.

Multiplayer might've been fun when the game was published, but I can't find any other player in last couple of levels so it's more or less dead except for the first three levels at this point.

Overall, this is your old fun and repetitive THPS game with shinier graphics in ps4. Don't get disappointed by expecting anything more. I'd give it a 7/10, but I'm taking one more because the game does NOT have split screen multiplayer. Just how lazy were the developers?

This was the next in series after American Wasteland I played, so I had good expectations (though of course I've read bad reviews of Shred and Ride).
This is a serious downgrade from series and has nothing to do with going to roots. Why the hell flatland tricks, stickerslap, wallplant and walking were considered not-roots and were left out, while all these stupid power-ups and over-the-edge arcade stuff are somehow is roots? WTF?! Nevermind the overwhelming amount of glitches and bugs, you have to get your skill down and get used to NOT doing flatland tricks and stickerslapping (which I used alot!).
Level design is boring to say the least, even THPS1 had better level design.
This could be good for people who never played TH series before, but omni-present glitches and bugs destroy their experience in first 30 minutes. And I'm not even exaggerating here. My younger brother tried to play this game and he quitted after 30 minutes.
These guys were brave enough to slap 60$ price on this piece of...
And 7 Gig day one update? When the game is just under 5 Gb? This is a joke!
Do yourself a favor and don't buy this game. If you have PS4 then you're outta luck because there is no skating game for our platform available yet (except for OlliOlli). Xbox One owners will soon be able to play Tony Hawk's American Wasteland which is by far is the best TH title, IMO. I never played Proving Ground or Project 8, but I think that they're still good considering that Neversoft made them. It's definitely better than THPS5.

As a 35 year old gamer, I was 19 when THPS first hit shelves in 1999 and 22 when the last one hit the shelves in 2002. I spent countless hours playing those games. I by no means consider myself a master at all of the combos and lines but I can hold my own. I didn't buy this game Day 1. I'm a fan, but not a sheep. I waited to see reviews and streams of gameplay, and like many I was really disappointed with what I was hearing about pretty much every aspect of this game. However, I just could not resist downloading this game because I had to experience it for myself. I had to know if this really was the broken mess it's described as by so many.

So I paid $60 for it. I played it... and quite frankly, people suck. That's the only thing I can honestly come up with as to why people are having so many issues with this game. I have not experienced a single glitch, bug, or issue during my time playing this game so far. Certainly nothing that could even remotely be considered as "broken". I truly feel like people have forgotten how to play and/or what it is like to play a Pro Skater game. The mechanics and controls require skill and precision to truly shine. Every time I bailed, or jump out of a ramp/pool when I didn't want to, or bounce off of a wall, or hit a curb, or miss a grind...

    It. was. my. fault.

It was not the result of a broken game, bad controls, or poor physics...

    It. was. my. fault.

If you run into a wall and break your combo then you failed to do a wall plant in time to reverse direction and keep things going. If you missed a grind, then you poorly timed pressing the grind/slam button. If you jumped out of a quarter pipe/pool then you pressed "up" as you launched or jumped too soon before you hit the lip. If you bailed in the middle of a trick then guess what... it's your fault. In order to land tricks you need to do 2 things: 1) complete the animations for the trick and 2) land with your board facing the proper direction. If you mess up just one of these things, then you bail. It's all about learning precise timing and execution along with learning the maps and the lines where you can string together the most combos.

Let's break down why I give this game a 7/10:

Graphics: Are they "next gen"? No. Are they ugly? No. Look, THPS was never about mind-blowing graphics. Things look good enough to not distract you, but not so good that you're distracted either. (-1pt for "meh")

Sound: Classic THPS sounds are everywhere. Soundtrack? That's going to be subjective, but it sticks to THPS usually was... a mix of both familiars and unknowns from the punk, rock, and hip-hop genres. That being said, if you really don't like it, then make your own playlist on a usb and use the PS4 media player to play your own music while you play. (-1pt for not having at least an option to skip tracks or pick the songs you like from the available soundtrack)

Gameplay: Classic THPS mechanics that will punish those that fail to learn what it takes to really pull off bigger tricks and combos. This game has always been and continues to be only as good as the player can make it. (-1pt for lackluster tutorial that confuses the noobs)

So -3pts total because nothing about this game is perfect, but everything about this game is classic THPS.

I've seen the videos with the glitches and bugs. I have yet to have any of those issues. The complaints about the non-gradual speed when kicking... well here's a tip. There are 3 ways to start moving (which the tutorial does not make clear). 1) Press/hold "up" on the d-pad or stick. This is the best way to get started at a slow pace. 2) Hold R2 to kick/push and gain speed more rapidly. 3) Hold X to get 2 quick kicks to gain speed and then crouch down in a ready stance to ollie. For those that complain about how you have to be too close to the mission markers in order to activate them... learn. to. use. the. touchpad. The mission markers are actually quite unnecessary and you don't have to worry about how close or far you are to any of them. All you need to do is tap the touchpad and you will have a menu that allows you to choose and jump into any of the available missions. Just forget about the markers.

I just don't get the amount of hate being thrown at this game. I truly feel like people are either too young to know what the THPS experience was, too old to remember what the THPS experience was like, or too horrible of a player to understand that it's not the game's fault that you suck... it's your fault.

This game is not broken, the gaming community and user base is. This game deserves more respect than what it's getting. Too many people are making noob mistakes and blaming it on the game being buggy or having poor physics. It just has not been my personal experience with this game. It is everything I expected from a THPS game and totally worthy of a 7/10.

Esse jogo tá muito bugado, não dá nem para jogar direito e sem falar da parte grafica, chão sem textura, horizonte cheio de serrilhado, serio, não dá para jogar este game, tá pior que flatout 3.

Haven't played it, but I heard little wayne is guest starring, unfortunally 0 is the lowest score here, I would go -10 if it would be possible... The old games of the franchise were awesome though.

Its not that bad, starting a review like that doesn't sound good but its true. Tony Hawks pro Skater has a couple of things going its way, most notable my childhood memories. The gameplay feels reminiscent and surprisingly fluid. This game still makes you feel like a skateboarder and all around bad ass at times. The new Slam move was detrimental at times but helpful in others. CustomizingIts not that bad, starting a review like that doesn't sound good but its true. Customizing your player feels restricted as if theres not many options. There are however loads of choices once unlocked. The park creator feels okay and just the same as older Tony Hawk games.
The Game technically speaking is a mess. Long and abundant loading screens and some frame rate issues at certain time. Apparently there are some pretty big bugs as well but none that i have encountered. The game graphically is also not as bad as every one is saying, this game doesn't look like a ps4 game but some people saying it looks like a ps2 game are over reacting a little.
All in all this is not that terrible of a game, full price is a bit much. Id recommend getting a used copy, waiting for a price drop or a sale. Id also only recommend this game to people who played the older games.

TL;DNR: "They should have left well alone. THPS died peacefully with THPS4."

They simply should have left the series where it lay. It's 2015, so bringing a once-fantastic series back after near-enough 13 years, and changing nothing for the better is just one faceplant with a large dose of salt in the wound. Fortunately, I didn't spend any money on this, and I STRONGLY advise you

Fortunately, I didn't spend any money on this, and I STRONGLY advise you don't. Physically, graphically and regarding content, it has changed very little from THPS4, so why it costs full price of a modern-day game is beyond me. This game is an insult to the series which, as I stated above, should have ended with THPS4 or at least, this game should have come out about 10 years ago. Then, everything that is bad about this game MAY be forgivable.

I can only imagine that this is an aged Tony Hawks trying to go back to the glory days, like your Great/ Grandparents talking about the War, trying to relive his youth and the old glory days. But, instead, just kicking up dust that wind up making people cough and leading to irrelevancy.

I can't state anything that hasn't already been said, but the main problem i have with this game so far is the single player. Whenever a game is started in "Private" mode it stays like that, until a challenge is started or left. Whenever that happens, it automatically puts you into a an online lobby, which is rather annoying. Maybe this game will help EA and possibly another skate game

I haven't even played this, yet I know it sucks. I remember playing this back on the Playstation 1, I think it was Tony Hawk Pro Skater 3, or something. I would give this game a -1, but I can't so yeah... 0/10

    Tony Hawk Pro Skater 5

I have to say I had much higher expectations of Tony Hawks Pro Skater 5 after growing up with the underground games and having so much fun them Its sad when a game 12 years older had more ambition and heart than a modern day successor Tony Hawks Pro Skater 5 is completely lazy Most people don’t like the cell shaded art style, I

Its sad when a game 12 years older had more ambition and heart than a modern day successor
Tony Hawks Pro Skater 5 is completely lazy
Most people don’t like the cell shaded art style, I personally didn’t mind it all too much and is really the least of this games problems
Its littered with bugs and crashes, controls feel sloppy, and tricks feel way too simple.
The sound track is great but theres no list to view songs or toggle them on or off, you cant even create your own organic skater, and I don’t mean a vegan
youre only given the opportunity to change the skin on the games main characters
There is no campaign or characters to give out quests, youre given 8 hub worlds which are all unlocked by obtaining at least 15 of the 30 possible stars in side missions in the previous worlds
These freeskate hub worlds feature collectibles that unlock items and are decent in size but nowhere near the open world style we got back in the ps2 days and that’s incredibly sad
its like the parks were given the create a park limit underground had and they are completely dead other than the fact there are other players there too
The side missions are really just dumb mini games of do x amount of mounts in x time,
get all the balls out of the pool, break and collect stuff before time runs out.
    That’s it
the more stars you get the more money, unlockables and xp you get to level up and obtain skill points to spend on your character
After you’ve completed a 2 minute mini game you have to load back into the hub world and the load time is decent, but dreadfully frequent making them feel much longer.
There is a create a park mode that gives you a laughably small template and obstacle options, you can spend your time creating a masterpiece or a mess, you can fill the space both land and air anyway you please so there is plenty of opportunity to make amazing parks for your friends or others to play around in
I kind of feel like Pro skater 5 is relying way too much on mp to carry it when its mp isn’t anywhere as fun as it was 12 years ago with its sandbox style hide and seek type worlds
I wanted to love this game so much, but no heart or soul was put into it and I honestly cant recommend it.

In the late 90's the genius and brilliant Tony Hawks Pro Skater was released. The game was so good that by 2000 we had THPS2 that totally blew everyone out the water with an even better soundtrack, level design, animation, graphics, game mechanics and fluent controls. THPS 3 was then widely considered the best in the franchise and THPS4 a great game but lacked the original 3's charm.

The franchise soon started to go in a different route making games like THUG (which got a new generation interested) but alienated the original fanbase who wanted timed runs, high score rounds and arcade style level objectives.

So 16 years on from the original fans are super excited because finally we were going to get a THPS5!

But what happened? Why the 0 score?

Well the totally insulted the fanbase that built the franchise by giving us an incomplete, messy, badly programed, unplayable joke of a game. If THPS1 could get the basics right in 1999 why the hell cant this team of jokers programme a set of controls that work without casing game breaking glitches.

The team behind this game should be sued for fraud. Yes it's that serious. This game is fraud. They are charging 60.00 for a game that you simply cannot play, advertised as a Tony Hawk game.

This game needs to not only be boycotted but Robomodo need to be taken to court by everyone who was defrauded out of there money for this product. It's like buying a new car and getting it delivered without an engine!

Please do not invest in this game. I urge you, you are better off burning 60.00 than wasting it on this slap in the face to every gamer who has ever existed.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This game is not as bad as people are saying. Nowhere near. A zero? Even a one or two? Those scores are reserved for basically just unplayable and broken games. I understand people are trying to get their point across by doing this....however, it is completely inaccurate. I've been a huge fan of THPS since the beginning. I, however did not play Ride or Shred, which from what I understand isn't a bad thing. I will admit that they started to go in a bit of a weird direction i.e. riding in shopping carts, etc.....but, I think they were just looking for ways to change it up a bit. Another problem is the fact that people want to keep comparing the game Skate and THPS. The only thing they share is the fact they are both skateboarding games. After that ....nothing. Completely different games and different takes. One is a more reality based game and the other allows you to do inhuman things. This is not the game I was waiting to get at midnight of release. I heard the warnings and saw the signs...but, it didn't matter. Nostalgia was king. I agree that it is overpriced and the graphics look pretty PS2ish. That is bs. It skipped a generation of graphics in reverse. My nostalgia only goes so far. Some of the levels look like I could have made them in the skate editor and taking away your ability to program your own special tricks kills me. Then certain missions will take away a much needed ability while telling you to attain a high combo score(ex:reverts, manuals,...your bread and butter for combos). I also skated forever and manuals now count as gaps as do grinds. My mom knows what a gap is. I seriously asked her. While I am saying mostly negative things like everybody else and not adding the few positives, this does not mean I don't like it. While I am sure TH helped consulting, it seems fairly obvious that the rest of the devs(I know they worked hard and I am not being mean)have probably never touched a skateboard and know little to nothing about it. I feel this is an important aspect. But, thats just me. That novel finished...I DO enjoy playing it and have had it since release and any bugs have been quite minor and the same stuff I see in other games. Only with this one it almost seems like people were just waiting to unfairly pounce on it. You get used to the graphics and it is by far the best current skating game....I'm sorry OllliOlli, but you took my money and possibly almost three hours of my life. If you ever just liked any of the THPS games I would recommend this....but not for sixty dollars. Not forty dollars. No more than twenty. With the bashing of it going on....I don't think that sale price will take long. I am enjoying the game and plan on continuing to play it. So much for a THPS 1TB bundle....lol. Expand

Ok I take it back. This game is terrible. It was fun for the first few minutes but on my second play through the fun wore off. I feel ripped off. This is buggy, unfinished and a complete waste of money.

It's like the first Tony Hawk game. You can't get off your board, no story, and no multiple grind / manual combos.. I'm a little disappointed i guess i was expecting it to be like the underground games which are way more fun than this. It's still fun i guess. Really they took two steps forward and one step back on this. I'd honestly rather play a remake of the underground games.

Three levels in and I'm having fun with it. Much of the angst seems to be that this game does little to expound open the original THPS 1-4 games. Frankly, as someone who played the ever-loving sweet crap out of them in the 2000's, I'm great with this. Main critiques are it's buggy release, 7GIG "patch" and the fact many of the missions have little to do with actual game skill. But comparedThree levels in and I'm having fun with it. I joined this site just to review this game. It's great, the critics are being way to hard and expecting too much. Yes it is old school, but its fun, engaging with challenges and great music. If you liked the old Tony Hawk games, you will love this. It would be 10 but there are some very minor glitches. Get over it, its a great game!

This game viewed within a complete vacuum would probably warrant an 8. Yet it cannot be viewed as such. This game comes from a very high pedigree. Tony Hawk's Underground was a phenomenal game. Tony Hawk's Underground was a phenomenal game. Visuals should not warrant such poor reviews alone. this is not a game billed for aesthetic pleasure. Skating games at their core are about game play. The lack of a true customization of a character physically is rather disappointing. in the previous iterations of the game they had both the professionals and a character created player Also in this game it does not have an ability to get off of the skateboard and run around and or climb. even if it was just climbing a high dive to bomb into a pool. I am also saddened by the lack of story driven single player like in underground. The aspect of starting off small in a hometown or somewhere but as you got better, learned more skills and did missions you modified your environment, opening new zones and new missions was a really fun aspect. doing special moves is in this is not as satisfying as it was in previous games. i felt a joy in memorizing down left triangle for my special grind. This is the game in relation to its legacy and its lacking in relation to those. Viewed as a stand alone piece it is not bad. the motions are simple to learn but can be improved upon to refine to perfection and a high degree of skill. the physics are enjoyable, i like the addition of the stomp skating mechanic. I have not had time yet to attempt the create your own skate-park but i always enjoyed that in previous games so glad to see it present. The music to the game is fantastic, it has a good modern punk vibe that is familiar to the skater culture, Yet the game play itself does not feel punk. even when you would tag walls or slap stickers when you did wall plants, or hit things with your skateboard to just break things, it does not have such a rebellious feel. the level design as far as i have seen is really strong with different ways to go through each level and do what type of skating you like. If i had 0 expectations about what this game would be like or played its previous versions I would consider this a worthwhile purchase. as of now i am unsure if it was really worth it. On a side note in response to what a lot of people I see complaining about it not having local coop. I can completely understand not adding a local coop aspect to the game. to add a local coop can be a big time investment and for how much actual reward. how many people would have bought this game only if it had local coop added to it. the majority of people playing together will be online. I play games constantly with my friends. yet it has been 2 years since I have played a game with a friend physically beside me. Like a conservative parent of a punk rock child, You let me down Tony Hawk Pro Skater 5, I know you could have been so much more and i hope you can figure it out and get better. Expand

I had an impression that the developers intentionally butchered Tony Hawk’s classic formula in every way imaginable. For the last couple of years Activision has been trying hard to finish this series off and it seems it finally succeeded. [12/2015, p.58]

Most egregiously, this game costs $60. That’s about $50 too much. A better choice? Go crank Goldfinger’s “Superman,” fire up your old PlayStation or Dreamcast, dig up a copy of the original game, and relive the glory days the right way.
