The story is just refreshing really nice to see it being quite suspenseful and thrilling , The character development is a huge part of the story and is told quite nicely , However I being disappointing that treasure hunting was fairly just to please the fans and did not feel 'Adventure' it focused on sruvival which was perfectly executed but what about treasures and what is the core of this type of game but it was there and it was good but could be better, Gameplay is very fun and traversing is a lot of fun , the gunplay is quite good and the epic moments were amazing , Graphics are stunning just stunning and lighting is really lush and bright , However the multiplayer is VERY weak though i do not play multiplayer in these type of games but it is a fact that should be judged, It comes packed with all the DLC and most of the DLC's are thrilling and one again amazing, All in all this game is down to some of the best the genre has seen but improvement scope is there i just hope they do take time with tomb raider 2 .

Tomb Raider is an exceptional game, and this Definitive Edition is every bit as exceptional and then some. I originally played this masterpiece on my PC, a powerful rig with crossfired 7970's and a 2600K at 4.8Ghz. I thought that the game was visually exquisite on my configuration with TressFX etc all enabled and a stable performer, although even my rig couldn't escape frame dips from a v-synced 60fps in areas such as shanty town. I think the devs have done a commendable job porting this to the much weaker, but still very capable, PS4 with so many visual bells and whistles intact and expanded upon. The game truly is a sight to behold running at 1080p and a perceptively quite stable 60fps on my big 65 inch Panasonic.

A lot of people/critics are marking the game down based on the price. This is unfair in my estimation. The 'game' is still a stellar AAA title, now with just more additional sheen. The practice of keeping the price high is something I understand the community's resentment over, but as far as ridiculous scores like 60% or below for the actual game itself I do not agree with at all.

If you never knew the title was released prior and sat down to play it and review it on its own merits in this incarnation you would be undeniably impressed and the score should reflect that.

If you're lucky enough to have never played it and own a PS4 buy it immediately, comfortable with the fact that you just purchased the best game on the system. But even if like me you have played it, and even if you played it on the PC where the advantages this version offers are slimmer, it still is worthy of heavy consideration. I personally loved the game first time round and had zero reservations about ponying up for it again on PS4. It is a double dip, but it is also one where you can see significant care has been made to update a lot of things graphically that is truly a rarity in similar double dip scenarios, where a resolution increase is about it.

    10/10...on any platform.

People will cry scam, but the fact of the matter is, developers have done nothing to hide the fact that Tomb Raider: Definitive Edition is an upscale of the original game. And it is a damn fine upscale of a damn fine game at that.

None of the the story elements have been changed, it is still the adrenaline fuelled thrill ride that some experienced last year when the game came out on PS3 and Xbox 360. People seem to have taken it upon themselves to do nothing but post negative reviews, based just on the fact that this game would release at $60.
This was, admittedly, slightly surprising, however, I think we can all agree that you are smart enough to know if it has that value to you. I myself only got to play the original game for about an hour at a point where the story was almost done, so for me, this was a treat, especially as there are not too many killer titles on the PS4 as of right now.
In terms of the changes, the graphics and textures have been rebuilt with the PC version of the game in mind. Lara's character model was completely redesigned, and she looks stunning. Things like the Tress-FX hair mechanic, the topology remapping, and subsurface scattering that gives her skin a believable glow… All of this makes for an incredibly immersive experience. This as I said, was one of the only major changes, but it makes for a more integrating experience, and makes Lara an even more believable character.

The Definitive Edition includes all DLC that was released for the last version of the game, which mostly consists of content for the much overlooked multiplayer.
Critics seem to think the Multiplayer has near to no value, but the games that I have played take the elements of gunplay and platforming from the campaign and marry them fairly well with a 4v4 multiplayer. Don't get me wrong, the campaign is where you will be spending the majority of your time. However, the multiplayer does offer a pleasant diversion which can be enjoyed with friends.

All in all, the Definitive Edition of Tomb Raider is one of the prettiest versions of one of 2013's best games.
If you want it, get it. If you don't, bugger off and stop calling this a scam.

Almost perfect game in my opinion. Great balancing great combat great level up system the game is just fun from beginning to end. Lara is the perfect balance of Old and New Shoes I complete badass and you and when she's covered in dirt and bloody you still feel a connection with her. Definitely the high point of the series it went downhill from here.

Great reboot to a classic franchise, great gameplay, story, sound. I loved everything about this game, it kept me engaged and wanted me to find all secrets and collectibles. This game had me excited going forward with this franchise.

    I highly recommend this game.

The characters are memorable and the protagonist... she is always been one of my favorites (there may be a little biased there) the story is not bad. Going to things that i dont like... the ending where they are trying to building up the game as introductory of Lara Croft or sort of a reboot... it didn't hit the mark for me.. it didn't connect... the enemy AI is not perfect... overall, its not a perfect game but its fun ane beautiful, i want to give it an 8.4 out of 10.

Tomb Raider Definitive Edition is an action packed adventure game with a fantastic gameplay and beautiful graphics. The story is a bit meaningless, but that was never the strong point of Tomb Raider games. A great game for fans of the Uncharted series or Tomb Raider/Indiana Jones enthusiasts like me.

I managed to get this game at a steal for £2.50 on the PS Store and for that price I couldn't say no. Even if I didn't like the game it wasn't exactly gonna be anything lost. I haven't exactly played a huge amount of tomb raider games. I played a few levels of the original tomb raider on the PS one and briefly played 2, 3 and underworld. So far TR definitive addition has been good fun. Been playing for a few hours and the game looks and feels great. I will update this review upon completion. Even if you pay full price at £15 I would still say that's a fair price for what this game has to offer. You find resources to upgrade your weapons. You find weapon parts to unlock more upgrade options. There is loads of different types of hidden collectibles that tell you things about different characters.
A couple things I didn't like but nothing major.
When you collect an item with text and it reads it back to you in that characters voice it comes out the TV and the controller making there be an echo from controller to the TV. You can disable the controller speaker in the menu but I don't understand why this was done.
There is no option to crouch or sneak. Having it duck and stuff automatically around enemies makes the player feel like they have less control. I would rather have full control over dealing with enemy encounters.
There is a lack of trophies/achievements. I have been playing for around 2 and a half to 3 hours. Found quite a few collectable and finished a few parts of the game and not had a single trophy. Apparently there is 51 but why isn't there any come up for doing anything story related. Like upgrade your axe, find the bow, open the doors to the tomb using the axe, kill your 1st deer, you get the message. Obviously I haven't removed points off my review for this but still it would be nice to have a trophy or 2 after playing the game for hours.
I am not sure if this game really needs a sprint option. This is just an opinion and I haven't taken it into consideration with my score. It feels weird playing a game without sprint these days. Being honest thou the map is built well so you always got some near you so its not like you need to spend ages running from place to place. Although if they did include a sprint it would have been good aswell as it gives the player 1 extra form of control over the character. With the lack of crouch option there isn't many ways to actually control the character. The climbing and stuff is cool thou. You can of course jump, clamber, climb and so on. But when you are on the ground it's basically just move and shoot. I can understand why this approach was taken thou as this is a remake of tomb raider which had the same type amount of control over the character.
But overall this game is amazing and the story is awesome aswell. If you are thinking about purchasing this game then for the price you can't go wrong. Even better if you can get it on offer.

    (9) Superb. Just shy of gaming nirvana, this score is a high recommendation because the game reviewed is head-and-shoulders above its competition.

Received free upgrade to PS4 version. Reboot of the Tomb Raider series is an exceptional game based on storytelling, gameplay, and puzzles. There is a lot to do and discover in this game and the story will keep you wanting to continue. Whenever you die in this game be prepared to see Lara in a painful and gruesome animation. This series will give Uncharted a run for their money and give them someone to compete with and try to be called the best in the genre.

I love how Crystal Dynamics just easily announced it 2 months ago and now it's finally here! Despite the addition to multiplayer (which people are getting tired of), everything that they learned was a piece of cake. This is my pick for Game of the Year for 2013 because it doesn't matter which critically-acclaimed game gets the big prize, you just have to play the game and then relieve it once more. What a phenomenal year for the reboot of Tomb Raider. The story is awesome, incredible updated graphics, intense gameplay (you might have to watch the cutscenes), and I'm so glad that the ESRB just stepped up to the plate and gave this the first M-rated game in the series. A big kudos to Camilla Luddington. I love her on Grey's Anatomy, she did one hell of a performance as a young Lara Croft who is going to test her skills to take on her biggest and dangerous challenge before she was the adventurer we know and loved since the original version in 1996. I just don't like the Multiplayer mode, that's all because I hope they should not add another one while making #10 anytime soon before E3. So I might wanna reconsidered it CD a little bit and try to add single-player DLC. If you haven't played last year's version on PS3, I suggest you should either keep it with your library or just trade it. Because once you experienced it on the PS4, there's no telling what you're in for. Expand

Lara is the most detailed character I've seen in gaming. She looks almost real. The supporting cast of characters didn't get nearly enough attention as far as texturing goes, but Lara, the weapons, and the environment all look beautiful. The controls are tight, but I encountered a few problems in which Lara didn't respond to my command. It usually happened when transitioning from climbing on a wall to climbing up a rock wall with the pickaxe tool. It is nowhere near as bad as Uncharted's controls, however. Overall, the engine works well and controls are extremely tight. The story is good. Lara is a great character; she's likable, relatable, and interesting. The supporting cast is marginal at best. You don't really care about them; I actually ended up rooting for several of them to die. When death did occur, I didn't even offer a shrug of the shoulders. You're in this game for Lara's story, not for her boring friends. Combat is good, allowing you to take a stealthy approach or a "run and gun" approach. However, there are very few "pure stealth" sections. Most encounters are usually started using stealth but usually devolve into massive shootouts worthy of the Call of Duty franchise. But gunplay and the cover mechanics are all very functional, so it's not a problem. I only mention it because if you're looking for a pure stealth game, you're going to be disappointed. The game also includes a deep upgrade system for your gear and weapons; it has you collecting salvage around the island and off bodies and it works really well. I found myself combing almost every piece of landscape, not something I do very much in games, in order to get the supplies, which are used to upgrade weapons, and collectables. There are several tombs, but they only really gain you more salvage for upgrading. The puzzles are intuitive and fun and are the appropriate amount of challenging. The two areas in which the game is lacking are Lara's upgrades and replayability. A lot of Lara's upgrades are very useful and almost essential. Several, however, are utterly pointless. SOme of which are the exact same upgrade but utilize a different gun or piece of gear (for example, finishing off an enemy with your shotgun is a different upgrade that finishing one off with your arrows). After beating the game, you are allowed to explore the island at will collecting upgrades and raiding tombs. But like Assassin's Creed, there's not much to do after completing all the optional objectives. Overall, Tomb Raider is a fantastic game and it is a true must buy for next-gen systems if you didn't play it last year. If you did, I hear it's the same exact game, so you really aren't missing much. The homage to classic tomb raider at the end is a really nice touch. Expand

I must say, that this is a very good game, maybe the best I played since last summer. Maybe not because graphics, I think the Xbox One could do a lot more than this. But the storyline and the gameplay is in my opinion very great, you can play offensive and also "defensive". The AI is challenging if you play on hard i think and also the discoverable objects, which give you more story background are well done.
Of course, it's a remake of an Xbox360-Version, so I wouldn't buy this for Xbox One if I had bought the game for Xbox360.
    All in all my opinion:

    + Quite good graphics...

    - a more non-linear story could be nice

For all the people slamming the game for its price tag, yes this is a jazzed up version of the PC release of the game. For those with a high end PC rig, buy the game when it goes down in price on a steam sale. This version of the game was not intended for these players as they already have experienced it. For those who have played the PS3 version and are pissed about the high price tag, then wait for the price to drop, nobody is going to demand that you consume. (except the hypo toad). For those who missed out on the game all together, its an above average modern action-adventure game that looks fantastic. Overall, its still a great game just right now not really at a fair price. 1.the develpers said this was just a graphic upgrade from last year. No one would complain if GTA or Skyrim came to the new generations.

This is what the PlayStation 4 was made for! This really makes it one of my absolute favourite games of all time. Thank you, Crystal Dynamics, I'm very happy to see how much love you put into this, Lara's future is in the best of hands with you guys. Expand

Tomb Raider is a solid game and a long-overdue reboot for the franchise. The graphics is amazing, Lara looks so realistic and the brilliant voice acting really brings her character to life. The graphics is amazing, Lara looks so realistic and the brilliant voice acting really brings her character to life. Although Lara's transition to being a hardcore killer (since just before she could barely survive) is a bit sudden, the story does a great job at characterizing the new, and more vulnerable, Lara Croft as she witnesses many terrible tragedies during her journey. You play as Lara Croft, stuck on an island with her crew mates who she must find. Sounds typical I know, but the game puts you in her shoes. You feel sympathy for her as she faces dangerous situations that you'd think she alone couldn't handle. This game is a showcase for the new Lara Croft, but the rest of the characters, even the villain, are pretty forgettable. The gameplay is a bit like Uncharted but it's fun and while they share many similarities, Tomb Raider has many differences that makes the game distinct (such as stealth elements and weapon upgrades). Sure, it can be compared but the Tomb Raider franchise can stand on it's own and not feel like a rip off (Lara came first but I personally prefer Uncharted). Multiplayer is pretty boring as you have your standard game modes, found in many shooters, and only few maps. The Definitive Edition has more multiplayer content but it's still doesn't have any depth. Although the multiplayer is unimpressive (at least it's not broken), the game's single-player campaign is all that defines Tomb Raider. The multiplayer doesn't ruins any chances of having a fully remarkable gaming experience. This has been a review of the original game as the Definitive Edition won't have much differences of opinion. All it is is a higher definition version of the game (doesn't beat PC but this is console we're talking about) with a few new contents and all the DLCs. But they're selling it for full price and that's not worth it (to me at least) if you already own or played the original game. If you're interested in the new Lara Croft, you can pick up the Definitive Edition if you want (assuming money isn't an issue). Otherwise, save your money and pick up the original which should be fairly cheap now. The graphic details in the Definitive Edition isn't a huge improvement over the original so you can just stick with it. The bonus contents is just there so that the Definitive Edition doesn't feel like a pure cash-grab. Without it, and all the DLCs, you won't feel like you're missing out on anything because the original already has the full package. If you're a diehard fan, no doubt you'll buy it without even reading any reviews. If you're the type of person who wants to experience the differences yourself, then I guess it's worth a rental. Not played the original? Then this is essential, but there's not enough new here for returners. [Apr 2014, p.69]

I was absolutely wowed by this game the first time I played it through because I was paying so much attention to the cut scenes and redesigned Lara Croft was a joy to behold...But having had a year to sit and consider the game's broader meaning, the second time around the game's flaws are all the more apparent.
