If you have experienced Lara Croft's recent adventure, Tomb Raider's Definitive Edition isn't for you. It has no new content that's worth your money. But in case you own an Xbox One or a PS4 and haven't had the opportunity to play the new Tomb Raider, run to the store right now. You simply need to play this game.

If you’ve never played it, or if you want something that really shows off the horsepower your new system, this game does it. If, however, you’ve already bought the game, it’s kind of hard to recommend getting it again at full price.

While other versions of Tomb Raider may be less expensive and offer a similar experience, the Definitive Edition combines the already stellar gameplay with vastly improved graphics, creating what is most certainly the best version of Tomb Raider available.

It's undeniably the best version of Tomb Raider yet - and the best game currently available for Xbox One and PlayStation 4. If you haven't played it, I don't know what you're waiting for.

Tomb Raider looks better, plays better, and (for the most part, stupid controller echo) sounds better than it ever has before, and contains all the DLC that was released in one easy-to-buy package. I guess it is a Definitive Edition after all.

The best looking and truly "definitive" version of Lara's latest adventure.

It's a bit disappointing that the remake of Tomb Raider could not deliver any new content of value, but the graphics and next-gen effects are eye candy that is more than welcome. This is not enough for the already saved to buy Lara Croft's latest adventure again, but the game is still a shining example of an entertaining action adventure that should be experienced.

It’s one of the best Tomb Raider games ever made, and it’ll live up to the Definitive Edition moniker for those gamers who never set foot on Yamatai Island last year.

This is still one of the best games of last year, and the enhancements make it one of the best looking games to come out in a while.

Tomb Raider Definitive Edition is a phenomenal action adventure game, and while it does not bring anything new to the genre, it’s an excellent opportunity if like me, you haven’t had the opportunity to play it on either the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 or the PC.

Tomb Raider: DE is an extraordinary videogame. Its gameplay is amusing, Lara's animations are stunning, and the game is one hell of a ride.

It's a definite step up and that's undeniable. We can argue all day long about whether or not it's "worth it."

Tomb Raider’s reboot at its best. If you haven’t played it yet, this is a game you must own on your shiny new PlayStation 4.

The shooting action is smooth and smart, with the artificial intelligence of both enemies and Lara a particular standout. Lara automatically snaps to cover when she’s near it and enemies are around, meaning no button pressing is needed.

For newcomers though, this is an absolute must-have.

One of the best adventure games on console, with a fantastic blend of action and exploration. The Definitive Edition really is definitive, but isn't worth a repeat buy for those who've already experienced Lara's story.

This really IS the Definitive Edition of Tomb Raider, but only because of the graphical overhaul. If you had issues before with the direction in which Crystal Dynamics have taken the character, or with the occasional intrusion of gameplay elements like levelling up and Lara’s ability to carry six weapons in invisible holsters, you won’t find anything here to change your opinions.

Definitely the best version of Tomb Raider and it shows exactly what the new generation of consoles has in store for us in the very near future.

You can tell Crystal Dynamics pulled out all of the stops to make this the best version of Tomb Raider. If you've played it before, it may worth a rent. If you haven't, the Definitive Edition is great purchase that outclasses the PC edition. Unfortunately, the potential price gulf between this version and the PC version can make it a hard sell.

If you somehow missed the many opportunities to tryout Lara’s rebooted fiction, then the Definitive Edition offers a remedy for that.

Tomb Raider is a highly accomplished reboot, and the term Definitive Edition goes well with this version of the game. The setting is excellent, the character's transformation is emotional and effective, and the pacing and variety of the gameplay are top notch. It’s the same brilliant game that came out last year, all polished up and looking its finest. For returning adventurers, on the other hand, there’s so little in the way of new content that there’s not much point buying the new version unless you had an urge to replay it anyway.

Tomb Raider: The Definitive Edition isn’t anything more than its predecessor. Yes, the graphics are a little bit sharper and yes, there are voice commands to, for instance, quickly switch to your map. But what has been added isn’t of value. The Definitive Edition is still a great adventure and a high point in its genre, but also only a recommendation for those who haven’t played Lara’s resurrection last year.

Tomb Raider Definitive edition is nothing but a refined version of a very good game. Therefore we suggest you to buy the game only if you didn't own a copy of the original one.

It's nice to discover this brand new take on Lara Croft with this next-gen version. But there's nothing outstandingly new here to be fair. High framerate means obviously flawless gaming comfort and Lara's looking much better now. There is some extra content too, but if you bought the older version, there's no real reason to pay once again. Especially when it's full price.

To replay the restyling of the reboot of Tomb Raider, a rent is probably the best solution if you have already played the original game. On the contrary, this (graphically) Definitive Edition is definitely the must-buy version for those who have not met the young new Lara yet.

No, Tomb Raider didn’t really need the facelift - but that doesn’t mean we don’t appreciate it. Stuffed with the same frantic fire(bow) fights, compelling exploration and breathtaking cinematics, this re-re-booted Tomb Raider is every bit as gripping as we remember. And at least we know how to beat the Tomb of Ascension this time.

The visual upgrade might not be a reason to buy this again, but if you haven't played yet, you'll find an outstanding game that will please adventure fans.

All in all, this is a step-up from your typical last-gen to next-gen port considering how early we are in the console cycle. Tomb Raider remains an enjoyable experience here, with better visuals and minor enhancements based on hardware accessories.

Its thin characters and unconvincing narrative aside, the game maintains a sense of inertia, pounding action, and a balance between solid gunplay, distracting puzzles, and satisfying environmental traversal.

If you’re interested in a return tour or want to see it all for the first time, though, consider the Definitive Edition a great way to play a great game.

Tomb Raider: Definitive Edition is an exceptional port of an already entertaining escapade, but outside of the extravagant visuals, there’s not a whole lot to sweeten the purchase a second time.

While not as "definitive" of a package as one might hope for $60, thanks to its markedly improved graphics and performance, Tomb Raider: Definitive Edition is now the only way I’d want to experience Crystal Dynamics’ rebooting of gaming’s leading lady.

This enhanced edition is certainly the best version, with visual vibrancy and a small handful of extras just about justifying its existence. But perhaps not the extra outlay. Playing any version of Tomb Raider is no decision at all. Splashing out on this or picking up the original for a third of the price is a trickier choice.

A great cinematic action adventure, with one of gaming’s great lead performances, although its Tomb Raider DNA seems fragmented and even degenerative in parts.

What's most remarkable about Tomb Raider is how its many elements so perfectly complement each other, so that no matter which activity you're currently engaged in, you're fully invested.

Frankly, I’m convinced that its release is more about profitability on a product that’s already crafted than it is about bringing a vastly superior next-generation version of Tomb Raider to the market. For $59.99, it’s not that much better than the PS3 version aside from some visual sprucing.

While all of these positives remain a huge plus, though, Tomb Raider still has plenty of flaws, the story being its biggest misstep. Incredibly obvious and packed full of cliches, you can't help but cringe at some of the dialogue as people speak to each other as if they were reciting a GCSE play. The Last of Us would laugh Tomb Raider out of the playground.

With an emphasis on improved graphics, this PlayStation 4 port is the best Tomb Raider yet. Unfortunately, this Definitive Edition doesn't add enough new content to warrant a second purchase. If you have somehow missed out on Lara's newest adventure, then Tomb Raider: Definitive Edition is a must buy.

It looks sharper, runs more smoothly and looks better overall. But certain gameplay and design shortcomings are still there.

Story and supporting cast don’t match Lara’s characterization growth.

Tomb Raider is a really good game but that it's full priced is unacceptable. It's just the same version as previous year. The good thing is you're part of a big Hollywood movie. However Lara lacks any sense of humor.

I was absolutely wowed by this game the first time I played it through because I was paying so much attention to the cut scenes and redesigned Lara Croft was a joy to behold...But having had a year to sit and consider the game's broader meaning, the second time around the game's flaws are all the more apparent.

Even ignoring its gussied-up next-gen clothes, though, Tomb Raider's strengths outshine its weaknesses as an experience, though its flaws outside of the visual realm remain impossible to ignore.

Prettier and choked with superfluous PS4 control additions, yet still the same brilliant game underneath. Never played it? Buy this. Want to re-play it? Stick to the PS3 version.
