The game is visually stunning with tons of aesthetic ambience. The setting treated as a character is highly developed. Lara is well designed, fun to play, smart and without those awful stigmas from older games.
But the game is full of AWFUL quick time events and difficulty spikes that are misplaced and unbalanced which drag the game down from what should have been a fantastic game!

Definitive Edition update: Impressive looking on the PS4 with nice touches such as using the touch pad for torch lighting and changing LED lights (though gimmicky). I don't like that the game fully installs but the disc spins the whole time, that seems stupid and wasteful on the hardware!

Played this originally on Xbox 360 and loved everything about it. Decided to play it again with the remastered version on the PS4. Such a fun experience. You will know nothing of disappointment while playing this game.

Finished this game an hour ago.
Well i already finished the PS3 version.
So this is going to be an "upgrade" on my previous PS3 review. Definitive Edition got a total upgrade in the character's graphics and run in 60fps, which makes the game run sooo smooth. Basically it's already a great game, and with this upgrade on PS4, totally worth playing for. If you haven't played the PS3

This game is 9.5/10 for me

Tomb Raider: Definitive Edition is an absolutely brilliant gaming experience. The story is gripping and creates enough suspense to where you are dying to see how it ends. If you have never played the original release of Tomb Raider, and are on the fence of whether or not to buy it, I would highly recommend this purchase. It's one of the best games out for the next-gen consoles. I don't understand the people who rate it a 0/10 because they see it as a cash grab. Maybe so, but there is also the possibility that the game developers who poured their heart and soul into this game want to do it justice. A justice that only next-gen consoles can give it. So stop whining about the price grab. Besides you are suppose to rate the game play, not a company's profit margins. Should you buy this if you already own it on current gen consoles? I would say no, but that's totally up to you and your wallet. This developer deserves all the money they get for releasing a great game. Trust me when I say that Tomb Raider: Definitive Edition will quench your thirst for an action packed adventure that will leave you by the end of the game calling Lara Croft a total bad ass. Expand

I thoroughly enjoyed the game and I’d rate is as the 2nd best title of 2013 (behind The Last of Us). As of this writing, the sequel is my most-anticipated announced title and if they can build on what was delivered here while improving the quality of the supporting cast, it’ll be a GOTY candidate for 2015.

    Pros:

The game is pure fun to play
    Amazing graphics and overall presentation
Interesting progression system with RPG elements
Interesting story with an entertaining narrative
Unlike some similar games, there is context within the plot for all the violence
Lots of replay value with tons of secrets to discover, the ability to revisit all locations after the endgame and online multiplayer
    Cons:
    Supporting cast isn’t well-developed

Missed this on the PS3 and glad I did as this has been a lot of fun to play. I'm not sure if I would have bought it had I already played it on the PS3 though. The only downside I would say is the Multiplayer which seems a bit unnecessary.

A beautiful done remastered version of the current gen Tomb Raider. You will be amazed at the obstacles that Lara Craft had to overcome to reach the end. Great suspense. Great action. Owners of the current gen version may not justify the price tag to experience upgraded graphics. Worth a buy.

Tomb Raider is an awesome game, you mus play if you are an action game fan: full of action and packed with a lot of interesting weapons and skills you can get/develop.
This reboot of the series took the right direction for upcoming games in the franchise.

Even though the rating says 9, my real score is more like a 9.5/10. This game is amazing, great story, great characters, the gameplay is superb, this is what Uncharted 4 should have been more like, great design for collecting collectables, the graphics are fantastic even though it's a remaster. This is my favorite game of the year so far. Completely recommended.

Going into this game, you assume it'll be something of an Uncharted knock-off, but really that couldn't be farther from the truth. In my personal opinion, the gunplay in Tomb Raider greatly outshines that of the Uncharted franchise, feeling much more weighty and gripping, not at all light or flimsy; the story in this game is a much different tone, favoring a more gritty aesthetic, while still making you feel like you're playing an intelligent, Indiana Jones-y kind of character.
Speaking of, Lara as a character is fantastic. She's written as a character, not a sex object. She's capable, cunning, and clever. One wouldn't be surprised to see her matching pace with other treasure hunting greats like Drake and Indy, and they'd certainly take her seriously.

In regards to the open-world aspect of the game, I can't speak so much yet, having only played what I assume is a small portion of the game (so far I haven't had to backtrack, but I have a feeling that's about to kick in). From what I have seen though, the designers did a great job of creating a map that doesn't at all feel restrictive. You never really feel like there's only one way to get to a given objective-- there are seemingly dozens of branching paths and directions you can take to reach your destinations.

Finally, the art direction in this game is only rivalled by its sound direction, both of which are brilliant and beautiful. Exploring tombs is just as much about observing the incredible structures and sculptures as it is about solving clever and entertaining puzzles.
I find myself really identifying with Lara as she grunts and shushes and yelps with effort, doing a great job at what I assume a fresh-out-of-college kid would sound like if they were leaping over a chasm, falling into a river, or cauterizing an open wound on their own leg.

All in all, this game is great. I highly recommend it to anyone looking for their next gripping, interesting, and entertaining treasure hunting experience.

I remember this game very well, it was amazing in 2013 (not like Uncharted but still), and surprisingly it still holds up quite well, even with 60FPS on PS5. The story is quite predictable, but is not bad. The looting/crafting system is much more simple and intuitive than even Uncharted, where the focus is on story rather than survival and crafting.

Voice acting and voice/sounds in general are OK, not that good. Overall stealth and game systems are working fine, everything is quite simple to understand, tutorials are good.
Although I focus 99% of this review on single player campaign, I have to mention that there IS multiplayer and it IS bad. So, dont buy this game for Multiplayer.
In general if you haven't played any TOMB RAIDER games, you would like this as a start, so go ahead :)

    Are there any similar games?

Very similar to Uncharted. The big difference is, Uncharted has a better story and more likable characters. Tomb Raider, you get to use a bow and arrow, plus you level up Lara as well as her weapons.

    Favorite Character?

Other than Lara, I thought the Character development was rather weak. It was interesting seeing Lara into the Tomb Raider.

    Would you play it again?

After I beat the game, I spent a few hours running around doing side missions and unlocking trophies. I don’t see myself playing this again but it was an enjoyable run through.

    Any Complaints?

The story was a little lacking but the creators made up for it with great game play.

I was absolutely wowed by this game the first time I played it through because I was paying so much attention to the cut scenes and redesigned Lara Croft was a joy to behold...But having had a year to sit and consider the game's broader meaning, the second time around the game's flaws are all the more apparent.
