    A cinematic, action packed gem of a game, this is how you reboot a franchise. Lara has never looked so good. A nice blend of puzzles, shoot ups and cut scenes leads to a game I just couldn't stop playing. The multiplayer is just alright but for me the main story is classic gaming. Plays just like uncharted but I thought it was better, I'm now looking forward to rise of the tomb raider toA cinematic, action packed gem of a game, this is how you reboot a franchise. Lara has never looked so good. A nice blend of puzzles, shoot ups and cut scenes leads to a game I just couldn't stop playing. The multiplayer is just alright but for me the main story is classic gaming. Plays just like uncharted but I thought it was better, I'm now looking forward to rise of the tomb raider to continue the new adventures of Lara croft.… Expand

    Tomb Raider: Definitive Edition is an absolutely brilliant gaming experience. The story is gripping and creates enough suspense to where you are dying to see how it ends. The updated graphics are pleasing to the eye, leaving me to suggest this is how Lara Croft is suppose to look. If you have never played the original release of Tomb Raider, and are on the fence of whether or not to buyTomb Raider: Definitive Edition is an absolutely brilliant gaming experience. It's one of the best games out for the next-gen consoles. I don't understand the people who rate it a 0/10 because they see it as a cash grab. Maybe so, but there is also the possibility that the game developers who poured their heart and soul into this game want to do it justice. A justice that only next-gen consoles can give it. So stop whining about the price grab. Besides you are suppose to rate the game play, not a company's profit margins. Should you buy this if you already own it on current gen consoles? I would say no, but that's totally up to you and your wallet. This developer deserves all the money they get for releasing a great game. Trust me when I say that Tomb Raider: Definitive Edition will quench your thirst for an action packed adventure that will leave you by the end of the game calling Lara Croft a total bad ass.… Expand

    Never played the original, picked this game up for $35 for the PS4. As my first PS4 game it was absolutely amazing, visually stunning and action packed, can't wait to see what they can do with a non-port!

    One of the best game of 2013, it actually was a contender for the Game of the year award! Its an exceptional action game with great graphics and interesting story!

    Very intense gameplay and a well written and weird storyline is what makes this game good but the side activities like searching tombs and discovering artifacts make only the 8-10 hour storyline good.

    I really enjoyed this game, it looks good, has an interesting origin story and plays well. To me it felt very similar to Resident Evil 4, trust me that is a good thing, it is a fantastic third person, action, adventure, survival game. Another similarity is the way that you improved weapons; reload speed, capacity, damage, recoil etc. I really enjoyed upgrading my weapons and skills of myI really enjoyed this game, it looks good, has an interesting origin story and plays well. To me it felt very similar to Resident Evil 4, trust me that is a good thing, it is a fantastic third person, action, adventure, survival game. Another similarity is the way that you improved weapons; reload speed, capacity, damage, recoil etc. I really enjoyed upgrading my weapons and skills of my choice. Some of the skills have great animations, such as the close combat kills (reminiscent of Gears of War)

    So why an 8? Well as much as I had fun with this game, even to the point of collecting all extra items and completing challenges. I felt a little disappointed by the lack of sub-boss/boss encounters. I'd spent ages upgrading and preparing an amazing arsenal of weapons, expecting some extremely challenging encounters towards the end of the game but it simply never materialised.

    There are some great set pieces that are reduced to simple 'quick time events' or taken over completely by the cut-scenes and you just watch. Why couldn't I have shot that enemy in the head with an arrow instead of watching it? I won't spoil the experience for anyone but there was another moment I was anticipating a tough boss battle, which I was prepared for, then it was all taken away from me by a cut-scene. Even the final boss felt like a bit of an anti-climax in terms of difficulty and input.

    This is where it falls short for me, Resident Evil 4's enemies became more and more challenging and were varied which simply wasn't the case here. The climbing and parkour was good, one of my favourite levels being the shanty town. Also use of the pick axe for climbing and scaling walls was great too. It's a great start for an origin reboot series, with much potential to improve for the sequel. Unfortunately as a PS4 owner I won't get the chance to play it as it will be exclusive to Xbox One owners. I picked this up for £18 and I had a lot of fun with it.    … Expand

    after hesistating a long long time I finally bought this game since it was only €15 on the ps-store but I should have bought it way sooner. I'm a huge fan of the Uncharted games and wasn't convinced this could be as good as those games but it actually is eventhough the game is a bit diffrent from Uncharted. The graphics are nice n sharp and the 60fps on ps4 really make the game fluid.     Nie sądziłem,że zagram jeszcze kiedyś w grę lepszą od Uncharted,a jednak to się stało!Gra jest genialna poprzez oprawę,scenariusz na supermiodnym gameplayu kończąc.Mimi że to remaster poprzedniej generacji gra wygląda jakby był robiona pod nową generację ,grafika absolutnie powala,klimatyczna muzyka i oprawa dzwiękowa jest na najwyższym poziomie.POLECAM

    Havent played Tomb Raider since the tomb raider legends on 360, this is a breath of fresh air for the series and could be a revival to make it a top selling game again, this is a great game with a good story and some stunning visuals, but the puzzles are really easy (but they just be a individual thing)

    my main complaint was the price, for someone who bought the exact same game for the ps3. i finally got it for 20 bucks from the psn store and think thats a fair price for a "refurbished" version.
    the game is good and a slightly different approach to the tomb raider series than in the older parts from the nineties, but thats not    update after i gave the game 3/10 points half a year ago:

    This a gritty, dark, fact-paced adventure that doesn't sugar coat the hopelessness of the situation Lara is in. With a story that is full of fluid and brutal combat, intense cut scenes and brilliant visuals you will feel almost as out of breath as Lara is by the end of the story.

    Some of the art direction looks a little too shiny imo, but thats completely subjective.
    Good controls and dialogue. I believe the developers worked hard to create a good, stable experience. Never encountered a crash and all in all the story and pacing is very good.     Well, what can I say. I hate the character design and the voice acting and well....the story as well. Problem is...its still fun as hell. Multiplayer is total garbage, I really wish the DLC had been tombs to raid, and that the price was lower....considering the only thing new for me (who beat it on PC the year before) was multiplayer maps and trophies (of which half are multiplayer so IWell, what can I say. I hate the character design and the voice acting and well....the story as well. Problem is...its still fun as hell. Multiplayer is total garbage, I really wish the DLC had been tombs to raid, and that the price was lower....considering the only thing new for me (who beat it on PC the year before) was multiplayer maps and trophies (of which half are multiplayer so I can never platinum this game!) Lara looks great and the game runs super smooth and the pacing is amazing...I went right through it in 2 days and my girlfriend even got half way through before I traded it.     An excellent game. The story: 9. Graphics: 9. Gameplay: 9. Multiplayer: POINTLESS! One of the few games released on the PS4 that's actually worth 60 dollars.

    Despite the graphics improvements i think this is another last generation game. Who played it first should´t buy it now, because visuals aren´t outstanding and the rest aspects remain the same. Although who haven´t played it before it´s a consistent purchase.

    I had previously completed this on the Xbox 360 and I enjoyed a single play-through very much. So why go back again ? Simply put in a shallow way, better graphics. The levelling up system could have been more in depth and technical but I guess the developers have kept things simple so as to appeal to the masses. Lara hasn't looked this good for a long time !

    This game does a magnificent job of showing off the potential of what a PS4 could do. Outstanding graphics, addicting adventurous gameplay, and RPG elements make this a PS4 title that will be remembered as one of the standout titles on this console. I think Tomb Raider veterans and rookies would both find this game enjoyable

    If you like Unchartered you will like this game. Top notch graphics and some amazing cinematic sequences. The story is so so but the action makes up for it. The gameplay is very fluid with levelling up and unlocking new abilities done without too much grinding. Loved it!

The old tomb raiders were, in my opinion, action and exploration games in equal parts. This one is definitely a lot more action than exploration (exploration isThis is a pretty good game. If you like Uncharted and other 3rd person shooters you’ll like this one, but do not expect the same stuff we got in the old tomb raiders, it is just not the same; not better nor worse, just different. The old tomb raiders were, in my opinion, action and exploration games in equal parts. This one is definitely a lot more action than exploration (exploration is more of a very optional thing here), the secret tombs give you the old tomb raider flavour here but there is only a few and they’re optional along with a few more optional stuff (GPS thingies etc.). Said that, this one is a really really good action game and if you like action games you’ll enjoy this one a lot; just do not expect an old tomb raider flavoured game.… Expand

    great reboot, is just an reference for everybody else on how to make reboots, i´m so glad square enix is publisher now, the game is beautiful, and now Lara is more human than ever, really enjoyable

I was initially unsure if I was going to enjoy it after playing it for about an hour, but it eventually grew on me. The graphics are great and there are many challenges complete and tombs to explore after the game is finished.

    This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. 2013's Tomb Raider reboot is inspired by Uncharted (which in reverse was inspired by the old Tomb Raider games) but it is its own game.

    The game tells the story of young Lara Croft becoming THE Lara Croft after starting out as an inexperienced and naive archaeologist and adventurer. She is stranded on an island in the middle of the Pacific Ocean along with other people after a storm made their ship crash. The island has many misteries, it is filled with pseudo-historical facts based on reality (it mentions the real ancient civilization of Yamatai, and there are also hints that through the centuries the island was explored by Portuguese mariners, Nazis and Japanese people), and is littered with crashed planes from WW II, crazed survivors following a cult, and ancient samurais. Lara Croft initially can't hold a gun but she steadily transforms into a female version of Rambo. Her character is believable enough and far away from the old Lara Croft thanks to the boob reduction, but more should have been done towards humanizing her. In the end, she saves her best friend and is briefly shown dual wielding pistols, her signature pose from the old times.

    Gameplay is solid enough, but it pales in comparison to Uncharted's free flowing combat mechanics. Where Nathan Drake can instantly and freely switch between taking cover, punching in melee combat, throwing grenades, and shooting, Lara can't. She is too "rigid". And she can't really fight back physically, you have to upgrade her skills in order to strike with her climbing axe. Her guns are satisfactory, though, and they punch quite a bit, especially when upgraded. Traversal in the game's world is enjoyable and between axe climbing and gliding through ropes you will appreciate the game's artistic beauty.

    Graphics are great but not top of the line like Uncharted 4, The Order 1886, or inFamous: Second Son. Still it is nice to have a console game rendering Lara's hair (a feature previously exclusive to high-end PC hardware) via TressFX 2.0, and running at 40-60 fps and 1080p. As for the sound, the voice acting is great, and the actor portraying Lara did a great job. Gun shots and explosions sound really good.

    There is also a multiplayer suite included, it's OK if not barebones, but nothing special, and you don't have to play it at all unless you have no other multiplayer game to play (few people actually play it nowadays). And the character's rigidness I previously mentioned, it is exacerbated in the multiplayer mode.

    A great game, then. Let's hope the series will continue building on the foundations of this game, and grow as much as it deserves.    … Expand

    The game itself has crystal clear graphics. I actually thought my television screen had got sprayed with water. It is that great. Game play and background is amazing. The surprise and suspense just keeps coming!!!!!! 9/10

    Sin duda, es el mejor de los tres videojuegos de Tom Raider más recientes. A pesar de los años, se sigue viendo fantásticamente bien en una Play Station cuatro, ya casi en 2020. Sin duda supieron muy bien los de Square Enix cómo desarrollar este videojuego. La historia no es la mejor del mundo, pero tampoco está mal, la encajaríamos dentro de una historia que puede enganchar, que noSin duda, es el mejor de los tres videojuegos de Tom Raider más recientes. A pesar de los años, se sigue viendo fantásticamente bien en una Play Station cuatro, ya casi en 2020. Sin duda supieron muy bien los de Square Enix cómo desarrollar este videojuego. La historia no es la mejor del mundo, pero tampoco está mal, la encajaríamos dentro de una historia que puede enganchar, que no disgusta, y que no importa seguir por lo tanto no es malo aunque tampoco es su punto más brillante.     I am a little bit torn between giving a 7 or 8 but decided to get for the 8. Tomb Raider is a great successor who likes the classic Tomb Raider feeling coupled with influences of Uncharted.

    I enjoyed this game overall for a fair bit but at the time I m playing it the graphics surely got a bit old and the gameplay is with 10hrs not over the top. I think this can be done within 8hrs if    I am a little bit torn between giving a 7 or 8 but decided to get for the 8. Tomb Raider is a great successor who likes the classic Tomb Raider feeling coupled with influences of Uncharted.

I think this can be done within 8hrs if you go straight. The story is not bad but the story telling could ve been a bit better. The game play mechanics are fine and also well guided. The weapons have enough diversity to be fun and the puzzles seemed fair though scarce.

    I did not have any bugs or frame issues on my PS4 Pro with SSD. Loading times are really fast. The presentational scripting is pretty decent and thos game play flow is not hindered too much by cut-scenes. Whoever likes Tomb Raider games will probably like this one too. Everybody else who wanders in footsteps such as Uncharted will most definitely also enjoy this game.

    I got the game on a recent sale für 5 bucks which is definitely worth it without having any doubts. The game is regularly on sale too, so if you can wait put it in your wish list and you ll probably get it within a month or too for a decent price drop.    … Expand

    La verdad es que es mi primer juego de Tomb Raider y me gusto mucho el personaje de Lara Croft y su inicio en esta nueva saga. El juego te pone en diferentes situaciones criticas y de acción, también bastante exploración. Interesante historia. Los que no me gusta es el detalle técnico, los FPS no son estables, se percibe sus cambios entre los 60fps a 40fps.     The truth is that it is my first Tomb Raider game and I really liked the character of Lara Croft and her beginning in this new saga. The game puts you in different critical and action situations, also quite exploration.Interesting story.
    What I don't like is the technical detail, the FPS is not stable, its changes between 60fps to 40fps. It has a constant movement of the camera when moving that cannot be deactivated and the worst of all is the error that corrupts your game and you lose all the progress.     I first played this game in 2017 and as a trophy hunter was disappointed at the multiplayer requirements. I love the story mode and game play enough to come back in 2020 to finish off the platinum. Highly recommended that you check out guides and boost mp trophies with partners with the same trophy goals.

    The game has incredible gameplay and AI and I liked the story even though it's a typical type of tomb raider stories the graphics was fine I liked every bit of the game but I didn't like the fact that I have to play online to have the platinum trophy.

    This is a pretty quality action adventure game. In the same vein as the Uncharted series Tomb Raider delivers a much grittier and much more realistic foray into platforming.

    Really really liked this game! The graphic is awesome, the gameplay is amazing and the level design is really good. The game lasts about 10-12 hours. But the plot is just meh. And all those seconds characters who I barely new as they didn't present me properly don't help the plot to feel as tragic and sad as it should. But the game, in pure "game aspects" is reaaally good! Yep!

    What a good game, really nice to play, a ST and the best part, its intensive and you have no time to get bored or just to give up playing because it has the same essence as uncharted games, really good scenarios etc. LOVE IT!!

    With breathtaking views and amazing graphics i only hoped there were more tombs to raid and hoped the combat could have been better but i mostly enjoyed the game and collecting items.

    A great reboot of the series. The game feels great all around. Bringing Lara back to her early days was a great idea. I do feel like its too much like Uncharted and the story was missing something. Other than that great.

    With this being my first Tomb Raider experience, I found it to be a thoroughly enjoyable action adventure that moves along at a tremendous pace. The game continuously throws exciting moments at you while also giving you time to breathe with moments of true beauty.

    Even though the rating says 9, my real score is more like a 9.5/10. This game is amazing, great story, great characters, the gameplay is superb, this is what Uncharted 4 should have been more like, great design for collecting collectables, the graphics are fantastic even though it's a remaster. This is my favorite game of the year so far. Completely recommended.

    Great cinematic experience. I loved the story and the gunfight although there were not as many puzzles as you would expect from a Tomb Raider game. Definitely a must have for every Uncharted fan.

    I had actually never played a Tomb Raider game before and I played this game after playing the Uncharted series. The games are very similar in gameplay mechanics and treasure seeking. I thoroughly enjoyed the exploration parts of Tomb Raider as well as upgrading weapons, the tomb side-quests, the combat, and the different ways Lara interacts with the environment.

    Other than Lara, I thought the Character development was rather weak. It was interesting seeing Lara into the Tomb Raider.

    Would you play it again?

    After I beat the game, I spent a few hours running around doing side missions and unlocking trophies. I don’t see myself playing this again but it was an enjoyable run through.

    Tomb Raider has great graphics and gorgeous locations. The gameplay feels smooth and there's nothing cluncky about the controls. I really enjoyed playing this game and really liked that it's so cheap in 2017.

However, if you've already played the PS2 version, you might not need this. With the exception of the prettier graphics and minor new additions, there's not much new.     Amazing game! Tomb Raider was always one of my favorite female game character. They have changed a lot but you can still feel the original Tomb Raider vibe. Combat and complete gameplay is just beautiful, pure enjoyment.

    This is by far the best Tomb Raider game to come out since it first began. There is so much depth and the gameplay is stellar. Graphics are top notch and its also very challenging. It starts out slow, but you'll soon find yourself in an all out war. If your looking for a great game at a discount price for the PS4, this is for you!!!

    Played this game on PC many years ago and now in 2021 on PS4Pro and it still very good. Square Enix did a great reboot. The only thing I don't like is that some magic/fantasy stuff is present in all 3 rebooted Tomb Raider games but probably it's their the only drawback.

    Gameplay, storytelling and Lara itself are really great. But i couldn't stand these action camera which is wiggling all the time. Because of that i couldn't play longer than 1 -2 hours because i got sick a bit. xD
    but that's probably just a personal problem.
    I also was kinda disappointed of the environment because it didn't looked like Japan. That was really sad. Still a solid game overall.

    The upstep in visual detail from the older console versions is a nice bonus, but Tomb Raider didn’t need massaging. It’s the same well-realised action reboot for Lara Croft that came as such a pleasant surprise last year. It’s still well-written, sympathetic, exciting, beautiful, and just incredibly well-made.

    JUGABILIDAD: Como lo pongo en el titulo, la premisa es un poco dispar. Los desarrolladores pretenden vendernos el nacimiento de Lara, pero a la vez prefieren no perder tiempo y pasar a la acción. Inicialmente parece que tendremos que "sobrevivir" haciendo uso de exploración y caza, aprendiendo habilidades y creciendo como jugadores. Pero nada de eso    Un Poco Dispar, Pero Entretenido.

    JUGABILIDAD:
    Como lo pongo en el titulo, la premisa es un poco dispar. Los desarrolladores pretenden vendernos el nacimiento de Lara, pero a la vez prefieren no perder tiempo y pasar a la acción. Inicialmente parece que tendremos que "sobrevivir" haciendo uso de exploración y caza, aprendiendo habilidades y creciendo como jugadores. Pero nada de eso aplica, ya que Lara es la típica protagonista que todo lo puede, desde el primer escenario.
    Sin duda muy desaprovechado.

    Eso sí, la jugabilidad no es del todo mala. Hay grandes secuencias de acción, grandes secuencias de misterio y un poco de terror. Aunque lo cierto es que algunas partes son muy exageradas y, como dije, no encajan con la historia que se está contando. Sí que hacen falta un par de Bosses, y los que hay no valen mucho la pena. Así mismo, los QTE dejan mucho que desear.

    Aún así sigue siendo un juego divertido, con grandes aventuras, un buen número de coleccionables, y muchos enemigos por vencer.

    GRÁFICOS:
    Si bien el juego se trata de una remasterización de un título para Playstation 3, el apartado gráfico sigue siendo decente al día de hoy: no va a quitarnos el aliento, pero sí cumple con una calidad suficiente para disfrutar de los modelados y escenarios.

    La narrativa sí que es brillante, cada cinemática y conjunto de tomas son dignos de una película 5 estrellas, y la dirección de las mismas sin duda será atemporal.

    SONIDO:
    La música es verdaderamente cinematográfica, las piezas son emocionantes e irradian aventura, y el doblaje es muy bueno, creo que uno de los mejores que he probado, y el uso de la bocina en el DualSense da un buen sabor de boca.

    Junto con las tomas visuales, hacen de Tomb Raider un juego totalmente disfrutable a nivel cinematográfico.

    INNOVACIÓN:
    Un juego de Playstation 3, remasterizado para Playstation 4 y que yo lo estoy jugando en Playstation 5.

    I've just finished it today on PS4 - after doing it already on PC - and for me this is the best Tomb Raider ever ! The gunfights are perfect, and so is the adventure / research for all the challenges. You can go for it without asking !

    Took me a long time to play it, but its nowadays totally worth it too. The Game itself is stunning and has an exceptional scenery and story. Story Was very fun and the more it goes the better it gets. The mystery about it is very interesting. I am a bit divided in my opinion about Lara.     Was very fun and the more it goes the better it gets. The mystery about it is very interesting. I am a bit divided in my opinion about Lara. I liked her looking and for the most part her relation to the environment. But her characterization is a bit to fast for me. I would have wanted a bit more time to see her grow in her struggle to survive.

    Gameplay

    All good. The shooting is fine, the riddle and tombs are very interesting and u can stealth kill most of the enemies. I would have loved if they contributed more to the survival aspect, more really necessary hunting and more.

    Scenery

    It looks really really good even in 2020. Lara is beatiful detailed and the isle has very goodlooking parts and you have some difference in it. But I would have liked more places to go to.

    Juego impresionante, con unos gráficos muy buenos. Ambientación e historia excelente, varias armas con la gran utilización del arco. Lara Croft en estado puro, habiendo jugado al Rise Of The Tomb Raider y al Shadow Of The Tomb Raider, lo situaría entre medias de ambos pero más cerca de la excelencia de Rise Of The Tomb Raider. Un juego al que es imprescindible jugar.

    This game is a classic 2nd best Tomb Raider game imo, from the action to the graphics+sound and the beautiful environments.... just so good, I've played and beat this game on PS3 and now 2x on PS4 this is truly one of the best action adventure platforming games ever... play it now its a 9!!!

    Loved every minute of this game. Tomb raider 2013 has the perfect balance of a great story, good combat, fun puzzles and fun trophies (offline) imo. Online trophies suck though. All in all, this game is definitely in my top 5 games of all times and I liked it even better than the uncharted games.

    Como juego, me entretuvo. Pero imposible no ver a esta Lara como female Nathan Drake.
    El gameplay bueno, algunas mecánicas interesantes.

    Brilliant. Finished it in a week, couldnt put it down. Good pacing, fun gameplay, goos story. A real treat, if I could but the devs of this game a beer I would. If you keen on buying, dont hesitate, you wont be disappointed.

    The first Tomb Raider I've played since the Playstation 1. The game offered me approximately 11 hours of non-stop action and a very interesting story. I liked the Japanese setting, which was well done.

    I have to say that the game looks stunning despite being almost a decade old. I only had one "crash" in the entire playthrough when I had to restart the game, otherwise the game runs    The first Tomb Raider I've played since the Playstation 1. The game offered me approximately 11 hours of non-stop action and a very interesting story. I liked the Japanese setting, which was well done.

    I have to say that the game looks stunning despite being almost a decade old.
    I only had one "crash" in the entire playthrough when I had to restart the game, otherwise the game runs great on the PS5 console.

    In conclusion, I have to say that this game is a great sparring partner to Uncharted, unfortunately it doesn't hold a candle to the Uncharted series. Although I kind of wish in the back of my mind that we would see a joint adventure of Lara Croft and Nathan Drake one day.

    I finally got the game and i'm amazed with it. The story is top notch, good soundtrack, great enviroments, fantastic set pieces. Although, i think the start was a bit slow, which is the main reason i'm giving it a 9 instead of 10. A lot of emotional scenes, which feels different (in a good way) from next games (i played ROTTR and SOTTR first). Amazing final boss fight and shocking twists.I finally got the game and i'm amazed with it. The story is top notch, good soundtrack, great enviroments, fantastic set pieces.     Very well crafted game. A bit short but well worth the price on sale. If you played the old Tomb raiders you know the game is not only about combat but also puzzles. Here the puzzles of the main story are quite easy, while those of optional stuff can be quite challenging. I like this choice.

    I was absolutely wowed by this game the first time I played it through because I was paying so much attention to the cut scenes and redesigned Lara Croft was a joy to behold...But having had a year to sit and consider the game's broader meaning, the second time around the game's flaws are all the more apparent.
