The true strength of the game is that they have drawn from a rich universe and crafted a believable and fantastic world. Despite being based on childrens 'fables' (which include some stark reimaginings of Disney characters) the tone of the game is consistently dark. It focuses on the daily struggles of an underclass, on the fringes of society, who find themselves out of money, in trouble with the law and turning to criminal means to get by. It also explores themes of governance and welfare and the choices presented to the player through dialogue options and the actions of your character, both big and small, genuinely challenge the player to think about these issues and empathise with each character.

    The graphic style is similar to that of 'The Walking Dead' game released by Telltale but is far more colourful and vivid. It is the closest a game has come to looking like an interactive comic.

    The game is fantastic value for money considering that it will run you half of what other new PS4 titles cost and I guarantee you will get more out of it. The choices you make and the characters you interact with will stay with you after the final episode is played out.    … Expand

    I like the story and I really wanted to see the ending. If you love The Walking Dead you'll probably like this too. That being said, it's a lot harder to fall in love with these characters then it is in the walking dead. In place of that there's a bit of a whodunnnit story that makes you think.     The games follows Bigby Wolf as he tries to solve a murder mystery set in Fabletown, a fantastical area in New York populated by characters from various fairy tales that have fled "the old country" to find a better life. The characters hide amongst the "mundie" (normal human beings) population through the use of special spells. The cast of characters are genuinely interesting and cover a wide array of fairy tales that I was interested to read about as notes about the characters unlocked throughout the game.

    The graphics are more or less the same as the Walking Dead games from Telltale, if you've played those. Hand drawn looking graphics that do the job. Stylistically well done, but technically won't blow anyone away. The voice acting is excellent from start to finish, though I did have a hard time not chuckling at some actors who were easily recognizable from the Walking Dead games playing very different characters in The Wolf Among Us.

    The story itself is interesting, though fairly generic. It's the cast of characters and world that make the game enthralling. To go into detail would give away spoilers so I won't, but the game delivers a dark, thoughtful tale about a seedy underworld that is easy to appreciate.

    One word of warning. There are games I wouldn't play around kids. I would say the Walking Dead games would fall into that category. Then there are games I wouldn't play around my wife (The Darkness, GTA 5). This game is on the border of the second category at times. Wearing headphones mitigates a lot of the adult content to those around you.

    The Wolf Among Us is a fun game, and worth playing if you enjoy narrative driven games such as The Walking Dead or Heavy Rain, but not for someone looking for a lot of action. There's more action than in most Telltale games, but it's still clunky and not terribly interesting. It's main purpose is to drive the plot and open up decision points.

    Like all Telltale games The Wolf Among Us is a better rent than buy due to its short length and relative lack of replayability. But, given its low price point to begin with, a used copy will probably cost so little that it would be worth it compared to paying $15 for a digital only game you can only buy at full cost.    … Expand

    Quick background on me the reviewer, I tend to like single player games that is heavy on narrative the most. I also play a lot of racing games and use to play multiplayer games in my high school days but now that it's hard for me and my friends to find a good time to link up so now I hardly play any.     Story did nothing for me, it was a struggle to keep playing after the first episode but I managed to get through it all in the end. I'll be honest and say that I enjoyed the first few chapters of episode 1 but it soon became very samey with very little to do in terms of action set-pieces.     What Kind of Adventure?

    It a Graphic Adventure game. Was it fun? Yes, I am a huge Telltale Game fan, I just enjoy their stories and the overall gameplay. Are there any similar games?     I really liked the second episode, Smoke and Mirrors. The entire episode kept me on my toes and at the end when you see that picture of Crane and Snow White, I remember screaming out loud “What is going on?”

    Maybe, I wouldn’t mind watching my friends play it and see what decisions they make.

    Any Complaints?

    My only complaint is that Bigby can be too big of an **** So what that means is, you have to decide how much of an **** do you want to be. I chose not to say anything a lot more in this game because I often times didn’t want to make things worse.

    How many hours did you play it?

    Its a standard Telltale Game length, each episode is about 2 hours so probably around 10 hours.    … Expand

    I've played Telltale's walking dead and Tales from the borderlands, and while this isn't better than those two it's still a good story and game. This is an interactive game with revolves around solving a murder mystery. The pros are that it's story is great and it keeps you wondering throughout, and the world and lore of this game is amazing. The thing keeping this game from being better than telltale's other blockbuster's is that it just feels way more linear than the tales from borderlands and the walking dead. Playing through the game I found out you can completely ignore the whole " " remembers that, or " " noticed that. You are just along for the ride and play little role in solving the mystery, the game solves it for you. And while its typical for a telltale game, it doesn't feel right for a crime solving game. It's also rather a short game, each chapter is about an hour, and there are no "major" multiple endings so replay value is non-existent. I also thought the ending was sort of lackluster, but I won't spoil anything. To end, anyone who enjoys telltale's games (or games with good stories/interactive games) will enjoy this one, great crime story with an amazing lore and world, but with barely there choices and consequences.     Don't expect something like The Walking Dead S1 or S2.

    The Wolf among Us is set before the events of Bill Willingham’s comic book series, Fables, a series that portrays characters of fairy tales living in the human realm after being pushed out of their own. They live in Fabletown, a small community that’s policed by Sheriff Bigby Wolf, your character. With the ability to appear human at will, Bigby not only does his best to keep Fabletown peaceful, but is also determined to show everyone that he’s put his days of being big and bad behind him.

    In a game centering on moral dilemma, Bigby is the perfect character to have as your protagonist, as he constantly tries to keep Fabletown peaceful while at the same time trying to resist the evil tendencies inside him, so if you go down the path of the law abiding Bigby, or down the road of the Big Bad Wolf, both choices come off as believable and appropriate.

    Everything goes to hell for Fabletown when a fable is murdered, and left on Bigby’s doorstep as a result. Bigby must team up with Snow White to find the murderer and bring him to justice, but in doing so, Bigby uncovers the deep corruption buried underneath the city’s surface, and also discovers that one murder goes miles deeper than Bigby ever would've expected it to.

    Despite Bigby’s new claims of turning over a new leaf, the Fables haven’t exactly forgotten his past sins, and most fables don’t like him as a result, let alone trust him. It’s what contributes to a lot of the conflict during Bigby’s investigation. After running into characters like the Woodsman, or Collin of the Three Little Pigs, it’s clear that everyone remembers his past. Hearing the Woodsman talk about how he cut Bigby up and threw him in a river or how Collin believes a drink will help him forget the pain of Bigby blowing down his house are great references to the original stories, while at the same time managing not to come off as too corny.

    As for the gameplay, if you've played Walking Dead, you know how it is. You walk around at fixed camera angles while controlling a crosshair that allows you to interact with the environment and talk to characters. Essentially it’s a point and click adventure for consoles, and a very well controlled one at that. Conversations between Wolf and other characters still works the same, giving you multiple conversation options to choose. Your decisions and choices affect the story, and ultimately determine its outcome, even more so than the Walking Dead did. You do have decisions that actually require thought, and will change how the story plays out, with each decision having dire consequences.

    Unfortunately, there are a few decisions that feel inconsequential, meaning that despite what decision you made, the result ultimately remains the same. This is especially true considering one fable at the end of the game. After playing the game twice, and making different decisions for this Fable both times, the outcome remained the same.

    However, talking to people doesn't always work, and when it comes to action, the Wolf among Us’ new quick time events for these moments work well. Along with pressing the corresponding button to dodge and fend off attacks, you also have a new mechanic which requires you to move the cursor over to a designated spot and press the corresponding button in time. Instead of just waiting for the prompt, you have to make sure you bring the analog stick to the right spot to make the prompt appear. It’s easy enough without being too forgiving, and it makes all the battles fun.

    Aside from gameplay, the Wolf among Us’ presentation is exceptional, with beautifully detailed cel-shaded graphics and a smooth picture of 60 frames per second, although the framerate does slow and stutter occasionally. As for the sound, the voiced acting is fantastically done, with returning voices from the Walking Dead, as well as new ones that all do a good job or presenting their characters faithfully.

    The only real complaint I do have for the Wolf among Us is that the episodes aren't all of equal quality like the Walking Dead, which was consistently good. Despite their strengths, episodes 2 and 4 fall kind of flat. It’s understandable that every game series will have its ups and downs, but this just isn't acceptable in an episodic series. It’s easier to deal with if you play all the episodes consecutively, instead of just one at a time like most fans had to.

    Finally, the conclusion is well done, with an ending that makes the game feel like a complete story while leaving enough open for a sequel. Ultimately, the Wolf among Us does a good job of copying Walking Dead while at the same time being a great game in it's own right.    … Expand

    This is the best storytelling/adventure game I have ever played hands down. Plan a weekend and binge play this game because setting down the controller is impossible once this game gets its hooks in you.

    The Storyline it's self is one of a kind and kept surprising me left and right, With such an imaginative world to explore and with so many people to interact with it leaves you without a shortage of dialog. It's great being able to have conversations with Beauty or the Beast about there relationship and have them seem like somewhat normal people, I feel like situations like this is what makes this game special...Like where else will you get that?
    Altogether anyone who was a fan of any of the Walking Dead, Game of Thrones or Borderlands TellTale Games Need to play "The Wolf Among Us" I can guarantee you will not be disappointed.    … Expand

There they live hidden in Fabletown New York or those who can not pose as humans inA somehow overlooked and excellent Telltale game. There a powerful adversary took over all kingdoms one after the other and the inhabitants flee to our world. There they live hidden in Fabletown New York or those who can not pose as humans in the countryside on the Farm. You have all (public domain) fairy tale characters but with twists. I like the ideas, stories, characters and development. I hardly have ever read something this good and interesting in comics. Beware that it can get really dark like the sources. As for Telltale games: Those are more interactive movies with focus on branching decisions with point and click style. Beware that this is a breaking point for some. The story is set before the events of the comics. You play as sheriff Bigby Wolf (= Big B = Big bad wolf) and investigate a crime that leads into a far more dark scheme. I avoid spoilers here. The story is well written and entertains from start to finish. However I knew the comics so one of the shocking twist did not work because I knew it was fake. However in total it was really entertaining. I liked the established and new characters. They captured the source material perfectly. For the gameplay it is like I said more of an interactive movie. While I liked it and have no complains others hate this kind of games. One strength is that it is just 1 game and your branches in decisions matter more that in “The Walking Dead” (They have to streamline the outcomes for follow up games there). The art style and presentation captures the style of the comics in a film noir style. Really good voice actors round up the experience. Overall this is a 10/10 for me but I must warn you that I cant rate the experience for non Fable fans. You could be a bit lost or not enjoy it as much.… Expand

    Purchased this on PS4, I had played the Walking dead season 1 and 2 on my Xbox 1 previously. I was not familiar with the fables world before playing the game.

    I did not experience any Technical problems with the game no glitches or slowdown while playing, it ran smooth and played smooth.

    Telltale has a not made any advances in the mechanics of the story telling in this game, if you have played either of their walking dead games then this plays pretty much the same. Like the other recent telltale adventure games, the main plot remains the same regardless of what choices and decisions but how you get there and the character interactions can change greatly depending on how you decide to get there.

    I would strongly recommend this game to anyone that enjoyed the walking dead game, adventure games, or even just a good character driven story.    … Expand

    Picked up from the PS Plus store on special offer and i am glad i did Great characters and story only let down by the odd bug the same that were annoying in the walking dead overall though another good quality game from Telltale Games and if you have not added this to your game collection yet i highly recommend you pick it up.

    Though a lack of meaningful and impactful choices makes player interactivity feel less key to the experience as it did in The Walking Dead, The Wolf Among Us is still a smartly crafted and intriguingly plotted murder mystery that reaffirms Telltale's talents in creating absorbing adventure games that add more depth to established story worlds.

    What a surprise this game was. I had no real expectations of this game as I had little knowledge of what it was about. Having enjoyed the Game Of Thrones Telltale games I thought I'd give this a go and I'm glad I did. The creativity from Telltale to produce such an interesting and captivating story is incredible. Loved every second of it.

    Fable goodness, The wolf amoung us is a good game its puts a wicked spin on the fables of old and its a great who done it mystery that keeps you guessing. the choices you make along the way affect the game to some degree which is pretty cool as well, over all if you like a game with a good story with abit action then give it a crack.

    This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The Wolf Among Us has been my entry door to Telltale Games' video games. While I guess most of graphics adventures lovers these days probably approached their work with The Walking Dead series, back when it made the boom.

    Plot it's the pivot in games of this kind and The Wolf Among Us makes no exception. Story's characters, "the Fables", are not what you might expect: they are very human, very "real", more from this world than from their fabled one, or maybe it's living centuries in our world that made them like this. While not coming from the game, but from the comic book, I must yet say the lore of the whole opera is very fascinating and unique, deep and well constructed, and in the video game this must be Telltale's merit too. The writing is great and some characters stand out over others, like of course Bigby Wolf, the Woodsman, Crooked Man, and my favorite, Mr. Toad. Eventually, what happens in Fabletown is not very different from what happened in Southern Italy for decades: lawful deficient institutions – Fabletown – and a criminal organization – Crooked Man's gang – apparently more efficient and closer to people, in competition. But the Crooked Man plays dirty and his rhetoric is cheap: he pays Crane, deputy mayor who runs the community, to do a bad job so to push desperate Fables into his criminal sphere of influence. Here lies his true nature and how he does not really care about the well-being of citizens, but only about power, just like a real mafia boss. It was probably my fault, but the impression I got from the plot is that a "Hideo Kojima plot twist" would come sooner or later in the game... but it didn't.

    The Wolf Among Us' gameplay is more reminiscent of graphic adventures games of the past than Quantic Dream's games (both Telltale and QD games are often referred to as "new" or "modern graphic adventures") however, compared to classic graphic adventures there's no challenge or real puzzle solving in The Wolf Among Us: its lack of challenge is simply disarming, interactable elements in the scenario are even highlighted, taking away the minimum effort for the player to search on his own. The only time where there is a minimum level of challenge is during quick time events. Also, making another due comparison, in The Wolf Among Us player choices do not affect the progress of the plot as much as in Quantic Dream's games. In other words, The Wolf Among Us is much more linear and most choices weights mostly on the short term period or do not really impact heavily the path of the plot. It's a nice gameplay actually, considering its genre, but I must say I expected something more. As with other episodic games I think the best way to enjoy it, is to play one episode a day, in sequence.

    There isn't much to say about the game from the technical aspect: it's based on a comic book and its storyline is canonical, so cel shaded graphics were the right choice. Stylish and good looking game but not all animations are at the same level, especially facial ones, they have ups and downs. Very good soundtrack, it fits the mood of the game perfectly.

    The Wolf Among Us was ultimately a great gaming experience as a new kind of graphic adventure games. It doesn't shine in everything it could and I expected something more, but I am glad I got into Telltale Games' graphic adventures with it. Highly recommended for lovers of the genre.     The Wolf Among Us is a superb game that nearly lives up to the hype. The choices you make are meaningful and consequencial. The action scenes are intense and engaging. The graphics have also been improved from The Walking Dead. My one and only gripe with the game is the disappointing reveal of who the killers are. Apart from that, Wolf Among Us is a great game worth a purchase.

Wolf is hated and feared character which gives him more depth. Bigby Wolf might just be of the best main characters in video games for a long time.

    Game itself is story driven mystery thriller. Wolf Among Us is detective story where you solve mystery that includes all those grim things that noir styled games, movies and books contain. There will be blood, a lot of it, there will be deception, nudity, violence and bad language. Behind all that, there is very strong story where the choices you make in first episode, will affect during the events in last episode.

    There is five episodes: Faith, Smoke and Mirros, Crooked Mile, In Sheeps Clothing and Cry Wolf. There is not severe quality difference between episodes, but some are better than others. But if you ask me, Cry Wolf becomes the best, after that one point, with real Wolf.

    One thing makes Wolf Among Us really atmospheric game. Because the game is episodic, you can play it like TV-series and take a break after one episode, or play it like a movie and finish it on one sitting. This game really knows how to make a cliffhanger, since the first episode ends with so serious turn, that you just can't stop playing.

    Style in Wolf Among Us in point & click / QTE. Some people love it, some people hate it. To me it works really fine. Game forces you to make difficult choices a fast. Sometimes there is very little time and because this is story driven game, thing you do, you can't take back. You can't please everyone and when you do something first, you can't do something else later. More than once you faced with situation where you must choose what to do first and whatever you do later, will be different than it would have been, if you had done it first.

    Wolf Among Us is fantasy game where those familiar fairy tale characters are brought to our world. You will meet so many familiar characters that are done so well, that you will want more after last episode ends. That is time to search those Fable comics.
    Characters are done very well and acted very well. There is depth real emotions going on. These characters have past and in many cases, it is not good. Thing have happen after and Bigby is not very liked man, will you use it, or try to change it.

    Wolf Among Us is in my opinion, best episodic game I have ever played. Each episode is very good and balanced well. Choices are often very trivial, but when there is game changing choice to be, it might be very difficult one.

    Wolf Among Us is game of the Year 2014 to me.

    One of the best adventure games to hit the PC since the Longest Journey. A cartoon style, edgy, point and click adventure from Telltale Games- two thumbs up. It was all the best parts of living in a comic book and revisiting Grimm's Fairy Tales.

    The Setting in this story is very interesting as popular and no so popular child fable characters live on the real world in which nothing is as glamorous as the books, and things are very very real with some heavy stuff you would never could have imagined with this characters. In the game you play as the Wolf (from the Red Hood book) which is a sort of detective in this realm and tries to solve different crimes that have happened to certain fable characters, exposing an ever larger web of events and plots as he find clues, investigate and interrogate other fable characters.

    In short, this game has a very cool cell shaded art style, great voice acting and writing, a compelling story and a really interesting interpretation to this fable world

    Amazing game, well worth your time. Immersive story, well-crafted and likable characters, great dialogue and beautiful art. Essentially like watching a movie but making the decisions to change its direction. Perfectly suited main character. My only gripe is that certain choices felt inconsequential. I really hope they make the second one soon, can't get enough of this game!

The characters are awesome (Bigby is a fantastic protagonist, and all of the different dialogue choices work because they fit the character perfectly), the story is spectacular, the world is awesome and stylish... there's really not anything bad about this game at all, as long as you like Telltale Style games of course, and any minor grievance would just be a nitpick. 98/100

    A este planteamiento a lo Ágatha Christie se une el imaginario creado para la ocasión: el factor sorpresa se vuelve una constante, porque nos toparemos con héroes de los cuentos infantiles, como la Sirenita, Gretel o la Bella y la Bestia, en roles pasmosos.

    Esta sensación de internarse en un universo tan exótico como inesperado es una de las mayores bazas del título, máxime con la notable falta de originalidad de la industria en general.

    La trama finaliza tras aproximadamente 10 horas, durante las cuales visitaremos numerosas localizaciones que conceden variedad y ritmo al desarrollo; todas hacen gala de un diseño artístico fantástico, como el que luce el título en global, trasladando al jugador la impresión de una viñeta en movimiento.

    No cabe mucho más que añadir. Estamos ante un videojuego que aborda la siempre entretenida temática de detectives, aunque quizá de una manera más ligera de lo que muchos querrían.

    Su linealidad y falta de complejidad son parte del concepto lúdico de Telltale, y esperar de este título una aventura gráfica clásica es un error que desvirtuaría la experiencia, completamente centrada en la narración.    … Expand

    For it's genre of game, it's pretty good "game". It's a interactive story game with a really good story. The animation style is nice, voice acting is good, the movements are very clunky. This would make a great tv series. The Quick Time game play is not the highlight.

This game is really cool but I think it should be improved because there is something that I do not understand and that I do not find normal in this game: how can Aunty Greenleaf have a picture of her and little Rachel on her wall if it's her? And I don't understand either How Mr. Toad, his son TJ and Colin (unless you choose to keep it) can go to the farm while we can find money for them to buy a charm. I know that charm is expensive but if you give Aunty Greenleaf 1, 2 or 3 sums of money, she should be able to pay them one so that they stay in Fabletown. But if we find only one or 2 (because one is enough for a single fable without charm), we should choose who to give a charm to or refuse and send them to the farm.

    I know it's stupid on my part to write this but I have to add that I hope that in the season 2 we will see Woody the woodsman, Beauty, Beast, Mr. Toad, TJ (even if they are at the farm), Colin (whether or not we choose to send him to the farm in episode 4 of season 1), Prince Lawrence (if we go to his house first and that it is prevented from committing suicide in the first episode of season 1), Holly, Grendel, Jack Horner, Clever Hans, Gwen, Johann the butcher (if we choose to protect it), Tiny Tim, Kelsey Brannigan, Grimbel, Ginger Guy Dilema, the Crooked Man (if we choose to spare him to imprison him and send him to the farm), Ichabod Crane, Tweedle Dum (if we choose to spare it in episode 3 of season 1) and the Jersey Devil in addition to Bigby Wolf, Snow White, Bluebeard, Bufkin, Flycatcher (if we offer him to work for us), Aunty Greenleaf (if we offer him to work for us), the Dr. Swineheart, the magic mirror and Nerissa (whether we choose to follow her or let her go in episode 5 of season 1) because if not, I would be afraid that they would not put them in it and I would not find that normal because they are important just like it is missing in Mortal Kombat 11.

    And I also hope that we can help Mr. Toad and TJ to get a charm so that they return to Fabletown and also to Colin so that he returns there (if we send him to the farm) or that he stay there (if we keep and if we find the money to give them, of course).    … Expand

    Probably the best TT game out there. The graphic novel series Fables that the game is based off has a great concept and TT really nail the gritty, harsh reality the characters live through. The game machinics are skin deep and the dectivite work you do is very simple, but it's the characters and story that push this game along and make it a great game.

    This is my personal favourite telltale game we got so much more freedom with what to do and the amount of ways approaching a situation and choices in the game was awesome and the story is phenomenal characters awesome music awesome. I can't wait for the wolf among us 2 knowing that telltale games are back i had so much fun

    The narrative is superb, the characters are well written and the story is compelling. Also the voice acting is really good. On    Together with TWD it's one of the best Telltale's games (and I have completed at least 7 of them).

    On the negative side, your choices do not really matter a lot (like in every Telltale game).

    it's bad boring and the story is mediocre the graphics are too neon for my taste. way worse compared to the walking dead series, tho that stuff went downhill starting season 3 ish too.

    One of the best choice games ever made. Incredibly tense with numerous excellent characters. Choice variety is good but could be improved. The story is incredibly strong keeps the player guessing. The pacing is a little mixed which is the main complaint.

    I hate how everyone does not want to have a regular conversation with you, or at least you pick some clues out of them or force it with some ways that could leave the player with a sort of reward for doing it in a way that is not normal for the average player. You approach everything with people being hostile or just messing around with the sheriff.
