exactly the rating it deserves. Not overrated or underrated. People who gave it even below a 7 does not understand anything about games, story, and character development. Some don't care for the combat, but it was polished af and especially satisfying on harder difficulty. Which I suggest those who hate the combat go play it on a harder setting.

I prefer Playstation due to their focus on narrative games. For scoring, I’ll be using the Gameinformer review scale and of coursed influenced by my personal opinions.

(10)Outstanding. A truly elite title that is nearly perfect in every way. This score is given out rarely and indicates a game that cannot be missed.

The world feels so alive. Side missions feel like they are their own story. The attention of detail is just impressive. CD Project Red has a bright future if they keep this up. The only improvement needed is the combat but their world and atmosphere is what makes this game a masterpiece.

The inventory was filled with way too many items that served no purpose until dozens of hours into the game. Repairing items was a frustrating nightmare. The "puzzles" were a lesson in boredom. Seriously using your witcher sense to find clues was such an abysmal waste of time. Swimming sections were nothing but frustration. The difficulty scaling was terrible, mid game fights were often very difficult then suddenly a breeze at end game. The lore felt to me like a game of thrones wannabe, that's just a personal gripe if you are into that sort of genre you'd enjoy it more. Overall a huge living world with endless side quests, hiding a boring repetitve fetch quest filled gameplay experience. Expand

The environment and landscape sets a new standard for open world games. Cities are big. The villages feel authentic in looks and layout, and their inhabitants actually work peasant activities along their farm animals, its a living world far better than modded skyrim can do .

The bad side is a only a handful of small small bad design choices on matters of character controls, maps and level-ing.

There are also small and big morality choices, without summing up scenes like it was in Witcher 1, but still you see consequences.
There are a lot of places to explore, they are non-linear and often are huge enough to spend an hour.

Graphics are good. Downside is that the game is very demanding, pushing you either to buy high end gaming pc, or considerably lower graphic settings. On high/ultrahigh settings game highlights way too simplified lightning techniques which are used in all current games. It deserves really something different here. Maybe ray-tracing which would bring down all current hardware to its knees.

Interaction with objects is also not so very smooth - you can sometimes stand in air, jump 6 meters high or dive with your horse which then disappears. Close quarters can also cause you some trouble with camera and objects activation.

    The good:
Graphics are amazing, especially considering the size of this game and its world.
Vast number of characters offering something new and entertaining to the story.
    Soundtrack is amazing.
Story is one of the best of 2015 and in my opinion the best in any RPG to date.
Great RPG elements that affect the overall story.
Hugh world that has a place and environment for everyone.
Tons of side quest and missions to keep you entertained for hours.

    The bad:
With all the content, some might feel overwhelmed. However, I think most RPG fans will love the amount of content offered.

This is a most own game for any RPG fan and one that shouldn't be looked over. If your still having doubts about buying this game, then due your research and you will realize what everyone else is trying to tell you. "It's a must buy!"

The loot system is also bad: you loot the same boxes over and over again and no meaningful items are found.
The map is bad and not connected. The scenery is great at first but it's always the same. And it lacks rewarding by exploration.
The enemies are so clunky and bad designed as well, they don't feel very plausible. Even the magic is bad: the symbols are so similar with each other. They could at least make some different icons more related with the actual power.

Sure it's better than a great number of games. But a 10? Not a chance. If this was made by Bethesda, I'm sure the critics would be all negative over it.

If the two previous Witcher games had a child with TESV: Skyrim's open world it would be their perfect child. The only thing that could use some work is definitely the UI - although it gets the job done it doesn't deserve a standing ovation. Took me nearly 100 hours to get through most of the world and most of the side quests on normal difficulty. A must have for those who crave the ultimate rpg experience on PS4.

I'm getting out of here to start a new game and explore alternative choices and hunt those trophies;)

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is one of the most anticipated games of 2015. The game was released in May for PS4 and Xbox One. I’ve been playing it for a few months now and it has honestly been some of the most fun I have ever had with a video game. Let’s jump right in. The game was released in May for PS4 and Xbox One. I’ve been playing it for a few months now and it has honestly been some of the most fun I have ever had with a video game. Let’s jump right in. You are Geralt of Rivia, a witcher who is on an epic quest to find his daughter Ciri, who has been on the run from The Wild Hunt for years. On the way, you work with the likes of Yennefer (Geralt’s old love interest and Ciri’s mother), Triss (A possible love interest for Geralt), Dandelion, Djikstra, kings, rulers and so many more. The world of The Witcher 3 is called Temeria (or “The Continents”). It is a dark place, but it is also beautiful. You can see and feel emotions from every character you come across. Most are sad, miserable and hopeless, mainly due to the current state of the world they live in. Everyone is looking for hope in a cruel world that has been overrun with all kinds of evil monsters.

    witcher 3 1

The beauty in this dark universe is surprisingly easy to see. It could be in the breathtaking sunsets or the tone in someone’s voice. Speaking of sunsets, the visuals in this game are truly magnificent, especially considering just how large it is. It is roughly 20% larger than Skyrim‘s. Now that’s big! Upon release, there were a few hitches and bugs, but since then, patches and fixes have cured the problems, but they weren’t really a deal breaker to begin with. It is one thing for a game to look good, but it’s another thing to perform well at the same time. The Witcher 3 does not disappoint. It is super fluid and there are hardly ever any issues with frame rate or performance. Whether you are slaying a vicious beast or dashing across an open field on Roach, your trusty steed, everything flows as smooth as silk.

    witcher 3 2

The gameplay in this game is completely fun and the controls are ultra tight. The main fighting is done with a silver sword, a steel sword and various types of magic, including various “signs” with different powers. This includes Quen, Igni, Aard and more. One could be a blast of fire while another could be a telekinetic blast. But it isn’t as simple as using your weapons on just anyone or anything. Your steel sword is for humans while your silver sword is for monsters. Each type of monster and beast have specific weaknesses, which can be used in your favor with oils or signs. You can read about every creature and monster in the Beastiary via the menu. This is just scratching the surface. The world is so complex and full of discovery and things to see, do, read and discover. The massive world is at the player’s fingertips. The main story is fantastic with unbelievably good writing and voice acting. Every character you come across is unique and you never feel like you have seen them before. It makes for a very realistic adventure. Beyond the main quests, there are a seemingly endless amount of side quests available, which can be found on the map, notice boards or other random places. These aren’t just for filler. These side quests have just as much bulk and emotion as the main quests do. This is something so many other games just don’t have. It’s quality and quantity. There are also Witcher Contracts and Treasure Hunts, which are just as fun as the side quests are. All of these quests and activities are rewarding, as sometimes you receive treasures, armor, weapons or coin. I also can’t forget the many points of interest, bandit camps and monster nests. Sometimes it is even seeing a village become active again after ridding it of monsters. This is one well-crafted adventure and it shows in both the story and gameplay.

    witcher 3 4

The Witcher 3 is gorgeous, fun, entertaining and features a wonderful story. It looks and feels like a finely-tunes, handcrafted production. The plot has immense weight and every action has a consequence. A big part of the game is making decisions. You will be prompted often and your story will form from your choices. You will end up seeing only one of multiple possible endings. If you had to judge this game based on fun factor, it has to be in the top 10 of all time. If you had to judge this game based on visuals and sound, it would be in the top 10. If you asked me what my top 10 best games of all time are, The Witcher 3 would be on that list, and probably ranked pretty high. It truly and honestly is one of the best games I have ever played. After over 100 hours of play time, I can confidently say that this game is simply a masterpiece, crafted from the ultra-talented folks over at CD Projekt Red.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. as an older gamer I have less and less interest in games - mostly because of the "young adult" level of story, characters, and dialogue. as much as I enjoyed mass effect, the Elder Scrolls, or dragon age, these games cannot compete with the witcher's story telling. each side quest leads to an interesting story and some morally grey decisions for the player. it is truly one of the best rpg experiences I've ever had, since falling in love with the genre so many years ago.
the only negatives are minor ones (overwhelming inventory, cumbersome menus) but the combat is not one, despite what others are saying here.
the combat has an elegance to it. you must know your enemy and also know what you're capable of. if you mash buttons or underestimate even a weak monster, you'll have troubles. once you figure it out combat becomes a joy as Geralt fluidly removes limb after limb.
a true masterpiece of an rpg.

One of the best games I have ever played. The main story is great, but what really is magnificent is the side quests! Complicated, interesting, makes you feel like a detective trying to solve a case, and it just doesn't get boring. I also have to mention the music, which is superb and makes the atmosphere even more intense. I highly recommend it to everyone, but for a RPG-lover it's a must-have.

I loved Skyrim, but this in my eyes is more coherent game, which for me makes it much better one.

    HONEST REVIEW - PS4 Version
I decided to create an account just to review this game. I play on the PS4, so I can't comment on other versions. Before buying Witcher 3, I checked out reviews on here among other places. Like most people, I wondered if it lived up to the hype. In many cases (not just this game), positive reviews are often short, generic praise, and non-descriptive, giving the impression that they may be just fanboys or people trying to boost the rating. And after reading many negative reviews on it, I nearly decided not to buy it because they sounded a bit more well thought out (honest). But now I'm very glad that I "gambled" on this game.

I have to admit that the first night I had it I was not impressed. Had I rated it after the first hour of gameplay, I might have gone with a 6 at best. The camera motion was extremely choppy. Which made moving around and interacting with things difficult. Even the buttons didn't seem to be responding correctly. But then they released patch 1.04 which made a HUGE difference in the gameplay experience. Now I've got over 30 hours in and my wife and I are enjoying every minute of it. She enjoys the story, cinematics, and action so much that she just sits and watches me play like it's a movie. The huge world is beautiful and feels alive. Trees move, grasses move, even your hair moves! How many games does your hair look like a plastic mold on your head? Here it looks realistic and flowing. You could complain that the trees move too much. At times you might think you're in a tornado. But I'm still taking it as a positive compared to motionless environments. Some people complained that the environment is too plain and boring. It's supposed to be a realistic world, not an alien planet. When was the last time you went outside? That is what our world looks like. As I said, the story is excellent. The main characters are very well done and enjoyable (even Yennefer, who spends much of the game being a **** lol). I think the voice acting for most of the characters is also very good. The Gwent card game is one of the best in-game mini-games I've played. I spent several hours one day just travelling around playing gwent with NPCs. While the side quests can be similar (you're a monster hunter, that's kinda the point of the game), very few are copy-paste like some other games.

It's not perfect, though. There are some negatives which prevent me from giving this a 10. The camera angles are a little awkward at times. If you don't press R3 to focus the camera on a target, you can often find yourself trying to attack an enemy who circles around you and is now in the foreground and off screen. But it's not like it's difficult to move the camera with the right stick. Rarely, if you have your horse on autopilot, he will make an abrupt turn for no apparent reason, which is annoying. The text and icons on the HUD and in character menus is absurdly small. I guess they assume everyone owns a 60" TV these days. But hands down the biggest complaint I have is interacting with items/loot/NPCs. Often, you have to be standing in JUST THE RIGHT SPOT to pick up an item off the ground. But once you get used to how you need to point the camera directly at the item, you can lessen this issue. CANDLES! There are candles everywhere and you can ignite/extinguish them with your witcher powers. If there is a candle next to some loot or an NPC you want to talk to, you will often find yourself playing with fire rather than doing what you wanted. Frustration is compounded by knowing that there seems to be absolutely no reason to interact with candles in the game.

Many people have complained about the controls. I assume these people play on a PC? On PS4 they're exactly what you would expect: move with the left stick, adjust camera with the right, buttons for your main actions, specials with the triggers. Pretty straightforward and natural. Character animations and movement can be a little clunky. If you are stopped and want to go the opposite direction, your character makes a turn like you would in a car, kind of a sweeping arc. They don't just spin and start going the other way. People complain about the combat as well: some that it's terrible, others that it's too hard. At first I found myself getting beat up by some lowly creatures and mauled by packs of wolves. But a little practice with blocking, dodging, rolling in or out of the fray, and paying attention to the habits of the enemies goes a long way. The enemy AI is not brilliant, but it's not stupid either. There are times against single enemies when you can go in swords-a-blazin' and just keep hacking till they die. But most fights require some strategy and at least pose a challenge.

Overall, I give Witcher 3 a 9 because the story, characters, and graphics are all really good, and those things mean a lot to me. But I understand the controls/interaction issues and why some people would rate this as low as a 6 or 7.

I have been a gamer since the days of Pong and can assure you that if you give this game the chance to court you with its dazzling charm, incredible world, fun missions and engrossing characters then you will be treated to one of the greatest video games ever made. I almost feel sorry for anyone who misses out on this. CD Projeckt Red have shown how to make a next gen open world RPG along with the commitment to regular patches and quality DLC.

The combat is great once you get the hang of it and I found the upgrading system to work just fine driving you to want to get to that next ability point to spend. The game allows you to play it as you want. You can move seamlessly from main mission to mission progressing the story at a good pace where the excellent mapping system makes it easy for you to know where to go without getting lost and frustrated. At the same time the secondary quests are some of the best leading to interesting character development and handsome rewards. I found myself playing a few missions then following the urge to get on my horse and just explore the incredibly beautiful open world where you always run into interesting discoveries.
Overall I would rate this game as 9.8 out of 10 and say that it is the best game out on PS4 and yes that includes fallout 4 and MGSV go get some Witcher!!!

Frankly, the best next gen title, if not one of the best games of all time. The people who rate poorly? They are the ones who don't want to admit that Fallout 4 is not going to win GOTY and will lose even to Tomb Raider, Bloodborne and even SWB. Witches 3 is going to hands down win GOTY.

    Why?

For one: the detail. Every single NPC in the world, right down to their tiny animations, is believable, realistic, with thousands of tiny conversations going on that make the game feel like a real, living, breathing world. "Oh but don't let yourself be distracted by the polish (polish, not Polish)."

Two, the music is top notch. I am amazed by the beauty and passion put into the music.
"Oh, but good music doesn't make a good game."

Third, the graphics. Every single piece of the world is crafted with such care I spent hours upon hours just looking at the detail. The light catching on blowing trees, tiny little details in the herbs that you can pick, the amazing detail in the armor, the blowing fur in their cloaks, Geralt's hair.
("Oh, but graphics don't make a good game... hurrdurrrrr Fallout 4").

Fourth, voice acting and script. Top notch and emotional. The baby scene was literally the most traumatizing thing I've ever experience in gaming. ("Oh, but having hundreds of voice actors and tens of thousands of written lines acted out perfectly with PERFECT animations and timing and even emotion conveyed through animated eyes, doesn't make a good game.")

Fifth, the sound design. Absolutely perfect. ("Oh, but having sound design that is Hollywood blockbuster tier doesn't make a good game.")

Sixth, character development. Top tier. ("Oh, but Geralt's voice is boring. Why is an American in medieval Europe?")

Seventh, world design. Massive, massive, massive, detailed, incredible.

Eighth, gameplay. For the intelligent player who can literally decide how he wants to play. Want to just hypnotize your enemies and let them kill everyone for you? Or want to just knock them all to the ground and stab them while they're laying there? Maybe you'd prefer to learn the difficult but perfectly developed combat system to become a master swordsman?

This is a 10/10 game, if I've ever played one. Play this, not Failout 4.

Any criticism leveled at this game is really off the mark... there's no way anyone who has played this game with an objective mindset could say that there's something wrong with it. I spent 300 hours in the game looking for problems, and I couldn't find any other than the flying body glitch (fixed), a small sound glitch when you first attacked with your sword, and some other tiny minor things.

For an open world rpg game, the level up system is not as good as Fallout 4, however the mutagens offer some interesting power increases. Card game is fun, but nothing epic. I do appreciate the effort that went into creating such a mini-game in-world.

Game difficulty is a breeze once the game mechanics are competently understood, but that can take a few levels so Death March was hard and challenging at first, but then became quite average, if not easy. I think you will have to weigh dying and waiting for reloading times versus challenge factor and see what is most fun for you.

Overall, I had a blast playing this game and am yet to find something better for the 2015 year.

It is a Living breathing world monsters will also attack other animals, wolves will hunt rabbits & dears. During cloudy weather you will be able to see clouds moving in the sky & shooting stars at night.
Game have excellently implemented dynamic weather cycle, day and night cycle as you will see a dramatic difference between day and night life.

    Visuals :
Graphically game is stunning and even more gorgeous after the latest patch. Animations are top class and facial animations are impressive.

    Narrative :
Story is impressive and easy to understand, no matter how many or all the side quests you play; you still wont get lost. Game offers the opportunity to enjoy company of beautiful characters & decent humor.
Choosing dialogues is one of the best part of the game & Dialogue options are one of the best with various types of choices with provides an enjoyable experience.

    Unique Features :
Witcher 3 have some unique features that you wont find any where else such as Geralt beard physics. Other examples are :- On Skellige : Gedyneith (Name Of Place) there is A House Under A tree when you visit that place for the 1st time you will see a dude plowing in soil but when you go there later you will see plants. You will see many changes in dandelions inn & main hall in Kaer Trolde castle throughout the game.

    Combat :
Combat is enjoyable, addictive, tactical and superb both ways offensive & defensive. AI is intelligent & will use various defensive measures. Despite high level enemies you still can defeat them with tactics & patience.
Other than basic close combat and ranged weapon, there are bombs & sign abilities (Basically Magic). You can use your ability points on skills but will choose wisely b/z you cant acquire them all as it is an RPG With choices & consequences, But you can reset them with potion.

    Other activities :
Beside side quests there are witcher contracts and treasure hunting, you can also participate in horse racing, boxing & playing cards. The card game is also very fun & extremely addictive.

    Replayability :
I doubt that some one will play this game once as of the colossal dialogue choices. The game felt vastly different while selecting different dialogues through second game play. I finished it twice and i am gone buy Complete addition & play it all over again.

I really enjoyed The Witcher 2. Tho I mostly enjoyed it for its characters and its story. The gameplay was still pretty rough (still a HUGE improvement from The Witcher) and many mechanics were rough too. The Witcher 3 refines everything you know and love about this franchise.

The story and characters in The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt are amazing. A side quest-line can be deeper and more meaningful than the main story of many other AAA titles out there. The ways characters interact with you and other NPCs is great and you really feel immersed in the world of The Witcher. The voiceovers are also really good and give life to these characters.

The World is huge in this game and the locals so diverse. From swamps, to mountains, to grassy fields, to big cities, everything in The Witcher is fun to explore. The game is breathtakingly beautiful.

Gameplay has been upgraded tremendously from the previous games and is a joy to play. Fighting and signs mechanics were improved and much easier to use. At the time I write this review, the menus have been re-hauled making everything much better from a UI standpoint.

The only negative point I can give the game is the horse mechanics. Horse controls can be very frustrating at times. I've ended up just jumping off the horse and running quite a few times. Yet, that is not enough for me to give this game less than a 10.

I'm also not counting the paid DLC in this review (tho I have played both and highly recommend them).

This is my Game of the Decade! Please, go get it and play it!

    P.S Gwent is awesome!

I just finished the game after 70 hours, and I have to say my opinion of this game now is drastically different from that of the first 20 hours.

I think this game has many flaws, such as mechanics, skills and abilities design, enemy and encounter designs and level design so on. Games like Skyrim and Bloodborne have much more entertaining core gameplay.

But the Witcher 3 redefines the scope and depth of what a game's narrative can hold. Although the narrative isn't terribly interesting in the beginning, it soon expands into a vast variety of different stories that are woven together into a coherent and vigorous narrative spanning many hours. This is something we haven't seen in RPG storytelling before. I suspect this was where the bulk of the game's efforts went into, and it's the part that remains with you after the credits roll.

If RPG's before the witcher were analogous to teenage fiction with A to B straightforward storytelling, the Witcher 3 feels like a complex novel you have to struggle through, but the very act of navigating such a complex narrative is an entertaining and rewarding exercise in itself.

I think the scoring of this game as a 9.3 vs a 9.5 comes down to what weighting you give to the "game" portion vs the "role-playing" portion. With my criteria prior to playing this game, I would have given it a 9.3, because I believed that games should foremost be games. However, The Witcher 3 completely works as just a piece of interactive entertainment, with the emphasis on the participation in the broader narrative more than the moment to moment gameplay. As an experience, even with its gameplay shortcomings, I think this game deserves the distinction of one of the top 10 video"game" experiences ever.

The world really is incredibly beautiful and graphically, this is the most beautiful game I've ever seen. There is plenty to do and see in the gigantic world of the witcher wild hunt. Gameplay is very well put together and the game gives you a very pleasant feeling of freedom. Also the story of the witcher is just like in the previous parts well put together. This is really a game where you can spend more than 100 hours without getting bored the replayability is very good. really a top game that you really should have played. Expand

Love the universe, love the graphics. Whereas downgraded the game still looks stunning on PS4, especially considering the huge scale and complexity of the world here. Many times during gameplay I just stop to admire the landscapes. Gameplay wise everything works smoothly, in fact Ive had some issues with too sensitive camera while starting the game but changed the custom controller camera set up here (fixed the sticks sensitivity to 0.80-0.85) and since then everything have been working perfect. I would recommend to do it for anyone having problems with "weird" camera in the game, should help a lot. This game never feels boring, the world is full of quests and places to discover, you will not find the dull side quests from Dragon Age. Overall this is a superb game which should keep you entertained for 100+ hrs. Great job CDP Red! 10/10 Expand

This is not a complete review considering I've only played 5 hours thus far, but considering what I have witnessed in those 5 hours- The Witcher 3 is head and shoulders above it contemporaries!

The world is vast, utterly gorgeous and littered with content. Comparisons to Skyrim are inevitable and understandable but this is a different animal. For all of Bethesda's prowess in building open worlds, their narrative structure and character development are somewhat impersonal and "old-fashioned" (not to mention the terrible anti-climactic endings!). CD Projekt is more in line with Bioware in these regards and here is where the most obvious comparison lies- how does it compare with Dragon Age Inquisition?

DAI was a great game and a step in the right direction for Bioware. However it had some short-comings particularly in the quality of its content. Too much of it was superficial and had no bearing on the greater world either in consequence or in fleshing out the narrative. In spite of my limited time with The Witcher 3, it's already very apparent that it does not suffer the same problem. Without giving anything away, the few side quests that I have completed felt purposeful and nuanced; adding just that little bit more meat on the bone.

Graphically, The Witcher 3 is easily the best looking game of its kind. The attention to detail is immense and the day/night cycle with its dynamic weather lead to some very impressive vistas. The character animations and facial expressions are impressive considering the lack of performance capture (unfortunately simply impossible to do from a cost perspective on a game this size).

The combat is fast, fluid and very satisfying. Watching Geralt decapitate or cleave his foe in two never gets old! The skill tree is deep allowing allocations in all of your major skills- sword play, archery, alchemy and signs. There is also the opportunity to apply mutagens to your active skills giving them additional bonuses.

I've scarcely scratched the surface of this behemoth but the quality on display here is indisputable. I can't wait to see what the next 100 hours plus have in store!

Take a bow CD Projekt Red, you've done something special here!

The Witcher 3's subject matter, its almost defiant doubling down on its treatment of women as titillating props for Geralt and the player, even as it tries to flesh out more female leads, is its most disappointing aspect. This constant presence weighs down what would otherwise be an excellent bit of closure for Geralt's video game saga — which isn't helped by the control issues that often detract from sequences meant to break up open-world monotony.
