Just like Hearts of Stone, Blood and Wine highlights the bad and good things about Witcher 3. Graphics are improved. Graphics are improved. Those ugly distance views we got in original Witcher 3 wont be here, as the lands of this new big area is easily the most beautiful in a PS4 game ever released to this date. Story is well written, characters got depth, but the DLC suffer from same problems I found in Wild Hunt and Heart of Stone: the pace is problematic.

The story starts as a typical one about a kingdom that is haunted by a monter (in this case a Vampire), and Geralt must deal with it, but soon you realize the whole thing is more complex that you first thought, then you really start to care about the characters and cant wait to see what happen next. Then, when the plot seems to reach it climax, here we go: you leave a city full of monsters and vampires and go to a dreamland where you fight 5 bosses in a row, with the same not so responsive controls and clunky gameplay that I never learned to love in Wild Hunt. When you left that place where your enemies where the likes of a dead Raponzel, Wicked Witch and Big Bad Wolf, you soon get into the final boss fight, with no time to prepare yourself for that. Most of those boss fights are frustrating due to the bad combat system (for my taste). So, if you are not a big fan of W3 combat, nevermind about Blood and Wine, since here the developers insisted in the Bloodborne/Dark Souls style of boss combat: bosses usually have an attack pattern, that only will let you attack in very sepecific situations, and the final boss got 3 levels. If you are defeated, before you try again you have to face a huge loading screen, and skip a big cutscene and dialogues.

If you think Wild Hunt is the best game ever made, not doubt you will fall in love with Blood and Wine. To other side, if you thought Wild Hunt was indeed a good game, but suffered from bad combat system, inventory and skill tree, then Wild Hunt experience was enough for you. The story pace is way better than the one from Wild Hunt, a game that told us many different stories and tried to connect them all with the game's biggest one - find Ciri and defeat the Wild Hunt - in a very weak way. Wild Hunt was actually a game composed by small stories, that were most of them superbly told, but the way a goal was set front he very first beginning made the whole thing less absorving for me: how can Geralt be there trying to help a bon vivant open a cabareth when Ciri is in huge danger? I thought Geralt priority was to find Ciri, but of course, you must find this person, or do this favor, because someone got a very small clue about Ciri whereabouts. You wont find that kind of thing here, but as I said before, the problem is the pace of the game in the final act of the main quest, that highlights the bad things about W3: bad inventory and infuriating non responsive gameplay.

CDPR deserves credit for putting a DLC with so many things to do, though. Some other devs are asking the same money for DLCs played in small levels and rushed plot (think about Dragon Age Inquisition ones). After I finished Blood and Wine, I'm still convinced W3 is really something for games in general. Even if I'm not a big fan of some of the mechanisms here, its really hard to deny that as whole, Witcher 3 is already a classic.

Blood and wine, if released by other developer, would be separate game, yet here it's just another expansion. Witcher 3 with its dlc is a game of the generation so far, a must play.

If they had charged $60 for this I wouldn't have blinked an eye. And I am usually very very harsh on games such as Fallout 4 or No Man's Sky.

It feels more like a sequel, a full game, than a DLC. Excellent work from the GOAT game devs of all time. Almost flawless minus some very minor, very small, weird glitches (makes sense since they pushed this out in under a year). Bravo. On its own

400+ hours into Witcher 3. It's sad to think there's no more expansions and probably no more Witcher games...it's a game that made me go astray from my usual gaming patterns 1. I don't usually go back and boot up a game I already beat twice for its DLC/Expansions. 2. I don't usually have patience for open world, Elder Scroll-esque games.

Blood and Wine is probably the most impressive DLC I have ever seen. 40~50 hours of content, whole new map, exciting quests and new gameplay mechanics, and the most beautiful landscape/scenery. If you like vampires, wine, knights and fairy tales...you will enjoy every second of this adventure like I did.

Thank you CDProjekt Red for being so dedicated to your work, almost every ? on the map serves as a reminder for how detail oriented you guys are.

    Dear Witcher 3 Haters…

You. Yes, you! The one screaming, "This is a movie, not a game!" and "They downgraded the graphics!" and other slurs I dare not mention. Tread lightly. You are one. We are hundreds, thousands. Millions. You aren't just IN the minority; you ARE the minority. I don't feel awkward or anxious playing Witcher 3 around others, and your words don't affect me.

    You.

Many others, however, are coming out of their shells for the first time in their lives. This is the first time many are enjoying the beautiful world that has been created for us - and it IS beautiful. Incredibly so. DON'T ruin this for them.

We Witcher 3 fans may have our differences, but we will not hesitate to come to the aid of our fellow witchers, especially against someone who so virulently slurs that which has brought us all together.
Don't take this the wrong way. I don't hate you. I don't fear you.

    I pity you.

I'm sorry that you feel this way towards us. I'm sorry that Witcher 3 is such a bane to your existence. And I'm sorry that you are missing out on such a wonderful experience. Mostly, though, I'm sorry that you feel the need to go around and publicly chastise and berate others. I'm sorry that, to ensure your own validity, you need to make others feel invalid. I'm sorry that your self-worth is so infinitesimally miniscule that you have to make others feel less-than-human, at least in your own denatured mind, just to feel whole. I am truly sorry that day-in and day-out you have to put up with your worthless, meaningless, Shakespearean tragedy of a life.
I ask you politely to cease your unnecessary cries for attention, and instead invite you to join our ranks. Uninstall Call of Duty, start up Witcher 3, and breathe in the splendour and the amazement of the realistic graphics, and then, maybe, just maybe, you'll see what you've been so hopelessly searching for this whole time.

I wouldn't even call it a DLC, because I spent over 50 hours playing through all the content which is massive and more than many regular games can offer for a full price. While Hearts of Stone focused on the main story, but the sauce around it wasn't anything special, this is just the opposite. Blood and Wine still has a good main story, but the main draw of this DLC imo is everything else, beautiful location, exploring, all the side quests and activities you can do, having your own house, legendary new items, new mutation tree, once again amazing soundtrack... after quite a long break since the last time I played TW3 I didn't really want to go back, but this world and characters absorbed me once again and I don't want to leave now, which is the best thing the game can give you. Overall, when I look at retrospectively, The Witcher 3, with all the upgrades and improvements over the last year, plus 2 absolutely amazing DLC's has become one of the best games, not just in the RPG genre, but overall and in time it will be ranked among the legends. 10/10 Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I have no idea why this is rated so low, less than 10 seems extremely picky but below 9 is inconceivable. This expansion is fantastic and it even gives the original game a run for its money. It is without exaggeration that this game could be a legitimate sequel. The fact that CPR released it as an expansion at the price point they did speaks volumes for their character and it's an approach that should be emulated by everyone in the industry. They indirectly expose AAA developers for the jokes that they are.

Blood and Wine has some of the most beautiful landscapes I have ever seen in a video game and Beauclair is absolutely stunning. The climatic contrast of Toussaint to Velen and Skellige really adds a dimension of depth to the world that makes it feel like a real planet. I think the following is common knowledge but to err on the side of caution, I'll tag this review for spoilers. We see the introduction of things that seem like they should have been in the original game, like armor dyes, mutagen conversions, and a Skellige gwent deck. You have a wide variety of new monsters, and the cutscenes and animations are improved upon from the original game. The main story itself is compelling from the very beginning and I must say the nod to Se7en is thoroughly appreciated.

I will start off with the story. You are called by empress to Touissant, colorful land where it feels like there are no dangers and people live happily. Unfortunatly a beast comes into the land and slaughters people in Touissant, your job is to hunt the beast down.

Seems pretty basic, and believe me it is. The story is as basic as it can get and is a huge downfall after the main story of the game and Hearts of Stone, the first expansion. It doesn't mean that it's bad, it's the exact opposite even if it's below the level of base game and HoS. I had much fun with it and sidequests were on a much larger scale than in Hearts Of Stone, which is a great thing.

So what changed? Not really much, Blood & Wine did add many features like coloring your Witcher gear, rebuilding a vineyard propably inspired by Assassin's Creed and many more, but it didn't really change gameplay or add anything to it.

The expansion has lots of content, I finished everything in about 30 hours and I had a great time like with the base game. In conclusion, great expansion for a cheap price. I would personally give it 9/10.

For players who just want more Witcher, there’s no doubt that Blood And Wine delivers. It has a whole new land to explore, there are tons of things to do, and there’s enough content to keep someone busy for dozens of hours. On the other hand, it felt to me like the entire Witcher experience had already peaked, so following it up with something that’s just not as good leaves things in an awkward place. The last ten minutes are absolutely worth seeing, but the hours that come before it? Maybe not so much.
