While I don't think Javier is a bad character, I don't really know why they decided to have him as the main character and not just continue with the game being completely about Clem & AJ. Also with Clem being in this game for a good part of it they needed to make the endings from season 2 all connect to the New Frontier, leading to the fallout from all the endings from season 2 being very disappointing and feeling like a slap in the face to everyone who cared about their endings and what happened to Clem after Season 2.

However even with this decision I still believe this is a good game as a whole. The story of Javier trying to take care of his family during this zombie (walker) outbreak is a good one, and getting to see Clem again is great, but the problem with that is that Clem is easily the best part of the game to me, so when she is not on screen it feels like we're just waiting for her to appear again which does somewhat hurt Javier's story. I feel like the game might have done better if Clem was in it significantly less or not at all and the game just focused on Javier and his family, with that it might help us connect to him and his family better making the game more satisfying as a whole.

While it may seem like I am being awfully negative towards the game throughout its faults I still enjoy it a good bit, and I know there is a lot of good stuff hidden in it. So I would say if you have enjoyed the previous entries in Telltale's TWD series then I would recommend this game, but would warn you to tamper your expectations a bit and know what you're getting into.

The problem I've found with the New Frontier is that your choices don't seem to matter and for a game where the choices are what make you play it, that's a big problem.

I liked the new characters introduced although I thought David was badly written, even if you choose all positive reactions to him he reacts negatively and the ending remains the same, in fact the ending you get is all down to three choices you make in a flashback, to me that is a huge problem.

When you spend hundreds of hours trying to make the best choices for how you see your characters development over three seasons and then everything you chose is ignored in favour of three choices, it's not good.

On the PC/Xbox game-play can be very laggy, Episode 3 in particular has lots of graphical glitches, then there are characters which died magically reappearing, lots of inattention to details, like trucks magically moving on their own, Zombies with no lower jaws biting you, inconsistent characters, weak story-line. Definitely the worse of the series and now it's being 'remastered' it's just a shame they can't fix the numerous bugs for people who have paid money already

What ruined it was not getting to play at the actual main character who is Clementine. Story was focused more on a new storyline that I don't think returning players cared about.

at first I was a little sad that we weren’t playing primarily as clementine this time around... But I grew to love playing as Javier and trying to take care of his family…
As you start out with just your niece, nephew, and brother’s wife…
And as you’d expect things happen to make this 7 hour journey to the games end, not the smoothest walk through the park…
The game does carry over choices from the past walking dead games, or allows you to choose before the game starts as it does continue the clementine story...
I was just a little disappointed with how they handled my season 2 ending... and how they wrote Kenny out of my story…
it felt extremely unimpactful for being the only person I’ve had by my side as clementine from the beginning…
the departure felt rush and left me feeling no emotion…
In fact the game for the most part is dealing with moody teenagers and a complicated relationship…
Things do get emotional, and tears did shed…
I just wish some of the emotional moments were drug out a little longer or that certain moments that should’ve been emotional felt more than just a quick bump to get over and then onto the next thing…
As far as performance and gameplay goes..
These games are best when you’re making decisions…
Changing the path your characters go down and how everyone in the story reacts to you...
I felt I deserved everything that came my way, and there were definitely hard choices to make here…
But there are the typical telltale performance issues…
As the game crashed on me within the first 20 minutes of playing causing me to restart from the beginning…
But thankfully the other 4 episodes ran perfectly…
There are the occasional boring adventure type section where you have to interact with the world...
These moments are never fun and really feel like they’re there just to be there... completely unnecessary//
But the most annoying thing gameplay wise are the occasional point and aim quick time events…
You never have any indication of what you should actually be aiming at, or what you should be trying to do in that situation.. And the curser is always off in an awkward position so it never feels natural...
Which can lead to many trial and error moments… made worse by the fact that there’s sometimes a brief cut scene before these moments that you have to watch through just to try again …
And design and setting wise... you do a lot of spending your time in settlements.. Which definitely gets boring…
the variety like the first season had is missing... episodes no longer feel like unique chunks within the story…
    A New Frontier is a good experience…
    But it’s just good…
A bit boring at times, but will still punch you in the guts with some feels…
I Give The Walking Dead: A New Frontier a 7/10

The game is mediocre at best with a cliche walking dead villain and plot, graphics that look like wax and completely disregards the choices in the 2nd game plus Clementine doesn't even have a point being in this game.

Whether it's the comparatively shorter length or the lack of a compelling narrative, "A New Frontier" simply doesn't live up to the first two equally incredible seasons that came before it, let alone any of Telltale's other work. It wasn't terrible, but it just wasn't any good either.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Wow, some angry reviewers out there. I liked A New Frontier, it was a fresh take, though perhaps not the most agreeable path. Logically, Telltale would have continued Clem's story from her perspective, but they introduced a whole new set of characters to a new setting, but keeping the main elements of this succesful series.

The overall story here and the choices you make (that really make a difference) are fantastic once again. We follow Javier, a gentle teamplayer, facing hard choices, but trying to please everyone. Slowly but surely, he finds out he can't save everyone. The game looks really polished, I don't think I'll ever get enough of this wonderfully shaded artstyle. The outsider's perspective - while still continuing the Clementine plot - is risky, but it works and keeps you involved.

There are however some issues with the game. Focusing on one location - Richmond - for about 80% of the game seems uninspired, and running good characters from the 1st and 2nd season into the ground in a matter of minutes - that was sad and uncalled for. It makes you feel like nothing Lee and Clementine did in the past mattered at all, whereas this transition should have been the main drive behind the game. What really infuriated me however, was the fact I cloud-saved after the 3rd episode, ran the game the day after and a big ol' error-message told me my progress was gone. That would have thrown me off, but luckily my randomly generated story closely resembled the choices I made.

Fix this cloud-issue, Telltale, it is a major flaw for a really good game, though not a fantastic game like the past two instalments were.

Introducing a new main character to the franchise, the 3rd season of the walking dead is very fun but nothing very different, the story and the characters are nice but definely nothing that will make you feel like it is the first time with something. The game have a new mashup of characters with a "new" adventure, but it kept the same saga, the Clementine saga as a supporter, but for me it worked, you could see how she develped, what she been through, all as a secondary character in the game. The new characters they are all well introduced, with back stories, each one with an temperament, and you can see development during the episodes, wich is pretty good. Every episode starts with a flash back, some of them work and some are just boring.
For me the most interesting aspect of the story and the one that i really cared, was Clementine parts, all that had she involved just got my attention way more than almost anything else in this game.
The game almost don't have anything new compared to the others before, they added a sequence of buttons to press, but doesn't really mean and change much.
The story is nice, also as the characters, but simply nothing new or incendiary.
The choices that you did in previous seasons have some impact in the flashbacks, and in the game the most doesn't change much, but there is a considerable number that does it, changing how the others see and think about you. Some choices are appealing and makes you think some time, and in the end are some different scenarios of possibilities.

I went through all five episodes of the New Frontier and my feelings are mixed, I will explain.

Plot: We play a new character Javier Garcia, a former baseball player and part-time sucker, our goal is as simple as two pennies, make new acquaintances with new characters and simultaneously save both your ass and your beloved family. Also in the Xavi family are present: His girlfriend (More precisely, his brother’s wife, but became his girlfriend) Kate, nephews of Mariyana and Gabe and all. Later, she joins them, yes yes, she herself is Clementine. Here she is simply Badass, her growing up is visible, and not only on the topic of menstruation, which was in 4 episodes, but according to her character, actions, and so on.

Theiles, alas, did not surprise me, they did not continue that tradition, alas. The plot didn’t really hit me very much, I played for Clementina and nothing more. For the most part, the plot didn’t suit me because of its frequent predictability, yes, now it’s predictable, for example, take the end of the first episode: I knew that it would happen that *********** would be killed and the episode will come to an end, I also knew what would happen at the end of episode 4, this had not happened before, I did not know what could happen, and there were completely different emotions from this.

Gameplay: But he has not changed, in general, you go stupidly, study, chat with people, and what else is there? And all? Well, yes, QTE elements have not gone anywhere, where would it be without them. By the way, about learning, I turned down, starting from episode 3 you won’t be given a single location. But to hell with you and that’s it. The choice of nichrome does not particularly affect the game is linear, only one character or another will depend on you, everything, the ending does not really change. What's next for us? Oh yes.

Music: But was she there at all? : D I don’t even remember.

Characters: Well, one of the personages is a cliched idiot flying off the coils, which you can bring to yourself with the words "I love you," yeah, you need to get it 3 times, while getting it on the head with a wrench. A dude with a small beard (what's his name?) Who runs next to the head villain is a full-blown nerd. To live in Richmond and not see what **** is happening right in front of your nose, it must be a topographical cretin, by golly a. Clementine .... Clementine .... Hmm .... Clementine .... And she is normal, yes, cool, brisk, good girl, in general there is no claim to her. And the rest ... the rest are just nerds, yes.

Would like to note. Flashbacks Clementines. By the way, their story depends on your choice at the end of the second season: Kenny or Jane, flushes tell about events up to season 3. That's all you need to know, by the way, I went through this and that, but damn, okay, they removed Jane for a completely normal reason, and why should Kenny damn it so stupidly?

Oh yes, acting, yeah, yeah, yes. Closer to episode 4-5, IT IS NOT IN PRINCIPLE, stupidly forget, there the characters die, and Xavi with that voice says, "Well, it happens." Only Melissa (Voice of Clementine) wins back as it should.

I am a big fan of the first two seasons but this one isn't as good as those two. A New Frontier introduces completely new characters, who's story crosses Clementine's journey. In this season Clementine is sort of a side character but I still would not think you should skip this one even though I didn't like these new characters at all and their pretty predictable story.

Although this game provides intense, dramatic, and morally thought-provoking sequences, the characters and relationships fall a little flat compared to the two previous entries in the game which, to me, are the backbone of the walking dead series. I still believe this game is worth playing, and it has strong moments, but it isn't comparable to the first two seasons.

The Walking Dead: A New Frontier may not always bring fresh ideas to the table, but what it does bring contains a lot of heart and charm. The cast is incredibly diverse, giving the spotlight to a Latino-centric cast but containing characters from different backgrounds and walks of life. Although some characters are inconsistently written, they all manage to be compelling enough that together, they create some of the most interesting moments without needing the help of Clementine. Clementine herself has established in A New Frontier that she is more than worthy of being one of gaming's most beloved female characters, displaying a growth and complexity that few female characters in the past have been allowed to have. With the series finale releasing next year, I hope Telltale Games pushes the boundaries of what she and the series itself can do and be.

Telltale stays loyal to its roots to the last consequence. Although it offers some new characters, the truth is not all of them are as charismatic and the franchise isn't yet on par with the first season. Even so, A New Frontier will delight the usual Telltale fan, taking no risks in gameplay mechanics but making every choice meaningful during the final moments of the five chapters.
