While I don't think Javier is a bad character, I don't really know why they decided to have him as the main character and not just continue with the game being completely about Clem & AJ. Also with Clem being in this game for a good part of it they needed to make the endings from season 2 all connect to the New Frontier, leading to the fallout from all the endings from season 2 being very disappointing and feeling like a slap in the face to everyone who cared about their endings and what happened to Clem after Season 2.

However even with this decision I still believe this is a good game as a whole. The story of Javier trying to take care of his family during this zombie (walker) outbreak is a good one, and getting to see Clem again is great, but the problem with that is that Clem is easily the best part of the game to me, so when she is not on screen it feels like we're just waiting for her to appear again which does somewhat hurt Javier's story. I feel like the game might have done better if Clem was in it significantly less or not at all and the game just focused on Javier and his family, with that it might help us connect to him and his family better making the game more satisfying as a whole.

While it may seem like I am being awfully negative towards the game throughout its faults I still enjoy it a good bit, and I know there is a lot of good stuff hidden in it. So I would say if you have enjoyed the previous entries in Telltale's TWD series then I would recommend this game, but would warn you to tamper your expectations a bit and know what you're getting into.

The problem I've found with the New Frontier is that your choices don't seem to matter and for a game where the choices are what make you play it, that's a big problem.

I liked the new characters introduced although I thought David was badly written, even if you choose all positive reactions to him he reacts negatively and the ending remains the same, in fact the ending you get is all down to three choices you make in a flashback, to me that is a huge problem.

When you spend hundreds of hours trying to make the best choices for how you see your characters development over three seasons and then everything you chose is ignored in favour of three choices, it's not good.

On the PC/Xbox game-play can be very laggy, Episode 3 in particular has lots of graphical glitches, then there are characters which died magically reappearing, lots of inattention to details, like trucks magically moving on their own, Zombies with no lower jaws biting you, inconsistent characters, weak story-line. Definitely the worse of the series and now it's being 'remastered' it's just a shame they can't fix the numerous bugs for people who have paid money already

I really dislike this game. I love Walking Dead 1, 2 and final season but I hate the new frontier. I think it's really terrible decision to play as someone else besides Clementine. I mean...of course majority of us will be sympathetic to Clementine and will back her in almost every decisions. This was definitely a mistake in my opinion. Also, Gabe is annoying.

    TL;DR - Offensive to S1 and S2 players.
Rest in bloody peace: a series which once used to be great.
Short 60 minute episodes (and the awful story makes it even worse), Clementine is playable for 5 minutes per ep, false advertisting pre-release, this is Javier's story for whatever **** reason even though we never asked for this and just wanted a GOOD continuation of Clementine's story

This isn't Clem's story, this is Javier's story - so this shouldn't even have Clem in it if Telltale wants to tell Javier's story so badly because she's just shoe-horned in and a side character. All the false advertising pre-release doesn't help either. Her being in every bloody advertisement also doesn't help. We played as Clementine in Season 2 and shaped our Clementine, and now Clementine is a supporting character again plus her personality doesn't change at all depending on your choices last season. Easy choices and deaths don't affect you because there is not enough character development and the game just pushes you forwards without any chance to talk to characters like in Season 1 (and even S2). This review would be too long if I talked about every issue, but SOME of the main issues are up there. SOME of the main issues. S2 choices don't **** matter for ****

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This game is just out right awful! The characters are bland, boring and just bad. Nothing interesting about them. I know that in the previous games the choices didn't matter that much but they mattered at least a little. In this game they don't matter at all. The ending is not satisfying what so ever. The art style looks horrible. It's ugly! The blood looks like red paint and the character model's are **** Clementine is reduced to a side character for god's sake. The "villain" is bad and no matter what you do, he will turn against you and die in the end. Carter in S2 was great because he did not over stay his welcome. In the previous games you were able to move around relatively freely and interact with people and environment but in this game it's reduced to bare minimum. You can only do that once in episode 3 and same with episode 5. There is nothing redeemable in this game. It's an unworthy sequel and a failure as a game. Overall a huge disappointment. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This game is a literal disgrace to people who spent their time playing the first two seasons. For one, it's a spinoff game as compared to an actual sequel. Though there are mentions and cameos of characters from previous seasons this is kept to an absolute minimum. This feels like an absolute slap to the face considering the variety of options a person's season two playthough could've ended.

The issues more bothersome than the lack of previous characters is the weakness of the new cast. Almost all characters are whiny, inferior mirrors of both the previous seasons of the game series and of the walking dead tv shows. Javi is a lame protagonist, and doesn't have the personal effect of Lee or Clementine. Though he has moments where he shines above most other characters, he does little to get me personally involved in the story.

The writing also appears to have taken a downward turn, as (like the characters themselves) most storylines feel derivative and to be weak copies of other sources (the latino family on the run like Fear the Walking Dead, the lame romance triangle from the Walking Dead tv show, the "this society is pretending to be good but is secretly evil" plot thread from the walking dead tv show and a thousand other end of the world stories, etc.)

And even with all these faults, I was still willing to complete one playthrough. But if the above faults weren't enough, perhaps the fact the game ERASED ALL OF MY SAVED CHOICES after installing chapter 4 really did this terrible season in. I emailed the game developers and was given, "We are sorry for the inconvenience and know of a number of players experiencing the same issue, but there is no fix available." The game also had numerous issues with launching upon the first installation, and I had to erase and reinstall it twice before it was even playable.

Couldn't even get a refund. The last game I purchased from this company was a massive disappointment as well. Will not give them another dime.

For me, this is the best Walking Dead experience in a while, though season one and two are better with story telling and character design!

First of all, the new engine works great. Better shading, almost no clunky animations and even the UI feels different in a good way. The story is strong and your choices feel like they matter. Even though that's not really the case for big choices.

Secondly, this is way better than the boring season of the walking drama! As a guy who watched all the episodes till now, I can't seem to remember anything else instead of a good antagonist and an action pact first episode. What I want to say with this is that the pacing in the game feel right, unlike the series.

Now if you liked the previous two seasons, you probably will like this one as well! And if you still have doubt, just wait for a sale, these game will drop to 5 euro's during steam sales and what not!

at first I was a little sad that we weren’t playing primarily as clementine this time around... But I grew to love playing as Javier and trying to take care of his family…
As you start out with just your niece, nephew, and brother’s wife…
And as you’d expect things happen to make this 7 hour journey to the games end, not the smoothest walk through the park…
The game does carry over choices from the past walking dead games, or allows you to choose before the game starts as it does continue the clementine story...
I was just a little disappointed with how they handled my season 2 ending... and how they wrote Kenny out of my story…
it felt extremely unimpactful for being the only person I’ve had by my side as clementine from the beginning…
the departure felt rush and left me feeling no emotion…
In fact the game for the most part is dealing with moody teenagers and a complicated relationship…
Things do get emotional, and tears did shed…
I just wish some of the emotional moments were drug out a little longer or that certain moments that should’ve been emotional felt more than just a quick bump to get over and then onto the next thing…
As far as performance and gameplay goes..
These games are best when you’re making decisions…
Changing the path your characters go down and how everyone in the story reacts to you...
I felt I deserved everything that came my way, and there were definitely hard choices to make here…
But there are the typical telltale performance issues…
As the game crashed on me within the first 20 minutes of playing causing me to restart from the beginning…
But thankfully the other 4 episodes ran perfectly…
There are the occasional boring adventure type section where you have to interact with the world...
These moments are never fun and really feel like they’re there just to be there... completely unnecessary//
But the most annoying thing gameplay wise are the occasional point and aim quick time events…
You never have any indication of what you should actually be aiming at, or what you should be trying to do in that situation.. And the curser is always off in an awkward position so it never feels natural...
Which can lead to many trial and error moments… made worse by the fact that there’s sometimes a brief cut scene before these moments that you have to watch through just to try again …
And design and setting wise... you do a lot of spending your time in settlements.. Which definitely gets boring…
the variety like the first season had is missing... episodes no longer feel like unique chunks within the story…
    A New Frontier is a good experience…
    But it’s just good…
A bit boring at times, but will still punch you in the guts with some feels…

The only real complaint I have is that Mariana was an extremely underused character. I mean in the first 30 minutes or so she gets shot in the face and it was out of nowhere. Whether it's the comparatively shorter length or the lack of a compelling narrative, "A New Frontier" simply doesn't live up to the first two equally incredible seasons that came before it, let alone any of Telltale's other work. It wasn't terrible, but it just wasn't any good either.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Wow, some angry reviewers out there. I liked A New Frontier, it was a fresh take, though perhaps not the most agreeable path. Logically, Telltale would have continued Clem's story from her perspective, but they introduced a whole new set of characters to a new setting, but keeping the main elements of this succesful series.

The overall story here and the choices you make (that really make a difference) are fantastic once again. We follow Javier, a gentle teamplayer, facing hard choices, but trying to please everyone. Slowly but surely, he finds out he can't save everyone. The game looks really polished, I don't think I'll ever get enough of this wonderfully shaded artstyle. The outsider's perspective - while still continuing the Clementine plot - is risky, but it works and keeps you involved.

There are however some issues with the game. Focusing on one location - Richmond - for about 80% of the game seems uninspired, and running good characters from the 1st and 2nd season into the ground in a matter of minutes - that was sad and uncalled for. It makes you feel like nothing Lee and Clementine did in the past mattered at all, whereas this transition should have been the main drive behind the game. What really infuriated me however, was the fact I cloud-saved after the 3rd episode, ran the game the day after and a big ol' error-message told me my progress was gone. That would have thrown me off, but luckily my randomly generated story closely resembled the choices I made.

Fix this cloud-issue, Telltale, it is a major flaw for a really good game, though not a fantastic game like the past two instalments were.

The new characters they are all well introduced, with back stories, each one with an temperament, and you can see development during the episodes, wich is pretty good. Every episode starts with a flash back, some of them work and some are just boring.
For me the most interesting aspect of the story and the one that i really cared, was Clementine parts, all that had she involved just got my attention way more than almost anything else in this game.
The game almost don't have anything new compared to the others before, they added a sequence of buttons to press, but doesn't really mean and change much.
The story is nice, also as the characters, but simply nothing new or incendiary.
The choices that you did in previous seasons have some impact in the flashbacks, and in the game the most doesn't change much, but there is a considerable number that does it, changing how the others see and think about you. Some choices are appealing and makes you think some time, and in the end are some different scenarios of possibilities.

    Good things:
    - nice buttons look when you have to press Q or E, better "hold and move" mechanics
    - you dont have to wait now at episode ending screen

    Bad things:
    - bad graphics and the characters looks so plastic...
    - dialogue options are really bad, you can get confused with half of them and say something else that you wanted
    - those flashbacks are really confusing and annoying, they also ruing immersion... especially when in flashback youre talking to the character that you know he/she(dont want to spoiler) died in previous flashback, you dont even care because you know he/she is dead... it makes you hope this game will end quickly
    - many bugs
    - now when you have to shoot zombies you just press 1 key few times instead of aiming on zombies heads and clicking on them
    - its not interactive movie anymore, now its more like casual adventure point&click game which makes it even more boring
    - and did i mentioned graphics? good

If they would make it like season 1 or 2 and without those flashbacks, then i wouldn't even care much about boring story, but they didnt and there is so many bad things in this game that it just cant pass by without telling people about it. I just only hope the next seasons will be like 1 or 2.

Ps. That situation when door handle was broken/locked and i had to go under the house to get in trough the hatch because there was no other way and then people from my group entered trough locked doors was hilarious.

Plot: We play a new character Javier Garcia, a former baseball player and part-time sucker, our goal is as simple as two pennies, make new acquaintances with new characters and simultaneously save both your ass and your beloved family. Also in the Xavi family are present: His girlfriend (More precisely, his brother’s wife, but became his girlfriend) Kate, nephews of Mariyana and Gabe and all. Later, she joins them, yes yes, she herself is Clementine. Here she is simply Badass, her growing up is visible, and not only on the topic of menstruation, which was in 4 episodes, but according to her character, actions, and so on.

Theiles, alas, did not surprise me, they did not continue that tradition, alas. The plot didn’t really hit me very much, I played for Clementina and nothing more. For the most part, the plot didn’t suit me because of its frequent predictability, yes, now it’s predictable, for example, take the end of the first episode: I knew that it would happen that *********** would be killed and the episode will come to an end, I also knew what would happen at the end of episode 4, this had not happened before, I did not know what could happen, and there were completely different emotions from this.

Gameplay: But he has not changed, in general, you go stupidly, study, chat with people, and what else is there? And all? Well, yes, QTE elements have not gone anywhere, where would it be without them. By the way, about learning, I turned down, starting from episode 3 you won’t be given a single location. But to hell with you and that’s it. The choice of nichrome does not particularly affect the game is linear, only one character or another will depend on you, everything, the ending does not really change. What's next for us? Oh yes.

Music: But was she there at all? : D I don’t even remember.

Characters: Well, one of the personages is a cliched idiot flying off the coils, which you can bring to yourself with the words "I love you," yeah, you need to get it 3 times, while getting it on the head with a wrench. A dude with a small beard (what's his name?) Who runs next to the head villain is a full-blown nerd. To live in Richmond and not see what **** is happening right in front of your nose, it must be a topographical cretin, by golly a. Clementine .... Clementine .... Hmm .... Clementine .... And she is normal, yes, cool, brisk, good girl, in general there is no claim to her. And the rest ... the rest are just nerds, yes.

Would like to note. Flashbacks Clementines. By the way, their story depends on your choice at the end of the second season: Kenny or Jane, flushes tell about events up to season 3. That's all you need to know, by the way, I went through this and that, but damn, okay, they removed Jane for a completely normal reason, and why should Kenny damn it so stupidly?

Oh yes, acting, yeah, yeah, yes. Closer to episode 4-5, IT IS NOT IN PRINCIPLE, stupidly forget, there the characters die, and Xavi with that voice says, "Well, it happens." Only Melissa (Voice of Clementine) wins back as it should.

Buggy, uninspired, boring, uninteresting slog of a game that nearly ruined any enjoyment I had for the Walking Dead series. The plot is the exact same plot that every piece of Walking Dead media uses, but this time without any tweaks or subversions to keep you invested. Really, this game shines a light on the weaknesses of every Telltale game, but this time, there's no characters to attach to and no fun adventures to have that will distract you from these glaring problems. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I had such high hopes for this game. I wasn't really stoked to be playing a completely new character but I was still interested since I thoroughly enjoyed the first two seasons. Unfortunately, it just really fell flat for me. It had some decent moments, but they were too few and far in between. There were also ALOT of ridiculous moments.

The first two episodes were fine and I felt like the season was off to a good enough start. However, I can't forgive Telltale for giving the season 2 players the middle finger by killing off Kenny/Jane in a 5 minute flashback. I didn't care for Jane, but Kenny deserved better. Regardless, its just such a lazy way to write those characters off.

The new main characters were all unlikeable (specifically that little turd Gabe) except for Javi but that's because he had almost no personality. The supporting characters were all forgettable, except for Jesus. Aside from Clementine, Jesus was probably the best part about this game, which is a shame because he isn't even an original Telltale character. The villains were lackluster and unnecessarily tropey. Badger was evil for the sake of being evil. Joan went from being a kind old lady to a psychotic tyrant in the span of an episode. It just made no sense.

The episodes had huge pacing issues as well. Nothing would happen for the first hour or so of certain episodes and then suddenly everything goes completely bonkers in the last 10 minutes. I felt like I was watching Looney Tunes at some points.

The game is also buggy as hell but I didn't really expect any less from a Telltale game. Your choices still don't matter but once again, it's a Telltale game so no surprise there.

There were a few things I liked about the game though. There were some touching moments between Javi and David, and I liked Clem's presence in the game, even though its minimal and we only play as her during flashbacks. Jesus was awesome, but I already stated that earlier. The final confrontation between Javi and David was emotional, but it was too rushed to have a lasting effect on me.

All in all, I wouldn't play this game again or recommend it. Its not complete garbage and you may get some enjoyment out of it, but its very forgettable. Definitely my least favorite season of Telltale's TWD. I'd say skip this one and go straight to the final season.

I am a big fan of the first two seasons but this one isn't as good as those two. A New Frontier introduces completely new characters, who's story crosses Clementine's journey. In this season Clementine is sort of a side character but I still would not think you should skip this one even though I didn't like these new characters at all and their pretty predictable story.

Although this game provides intense, dramatic, and morally thought-provoking sequences, the characters and relationships fall a little flat compared to the two previous entries in the game which, to me, are the backbone of the walking dead series. I still believe this game is worth playing, and it has strong moments, but it isn't comparable to the first two seasons.

The cast is the weakest point on this one compare to the last 2 installment but overall it's still a good game and worth trying out but don't expect to much this game is the weakest one on the series imo.

Graphics and gameplay became slightly better, BUT. What the hell they have done with Kenny and Jane? Our choices that we made in the last season did not even matter at this point. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The game on its own is pretty solid however when compared to the other seasons it’s hot garbage. You spend the entire game being a cuck. Clementine in this season is very good however and it’s clear telltale spent a lot of time on developing her character. Forgettable characters, lazy writing and all round blandness of this game makes it one of the worst additions to the walking dead series. Expand

I still like the game overall but it does not come close to having the same impact as the previous game.
The developers tried to be bold and experiment with a new protagonist and it failed.
I have mixed feelings about this however I would say this: If you enjoyed the two previous games, you have to play this one as well. It doesn't make sense to drop the story midway. If you haven't,

OK but not in the same league as the first 2 seasons. I would have preferred more of the story with Clementine rather than Javi and his dysfunctional family.

I love season 1,2 and final season. But, season 3 just felt unnecessary. The game should've just followed Clementine as the main main character instead of Javier. I mean all the decisions were easily for me to be bias in support of Clementine so it didn't feel difficult since we know Clementine's heart. It just felt unnecessary to see Javier's story.

Obviously it is hard to follow up phenomenal games such as the seasons 1 and 2. But the fact that there was a lot of dead air periods, put me off. It doesn’t help that the flashbacks overstayed their welcome. I believe it was a mistake not having clementine the playable character. Which in all fairness it is incredibly tough to pull off such a feat. Introducing an entirely new character as the main protagonist, while the previous main protagonist is still in the game is incredibly risky. In order for the game to be just as great as the previous, the new mc needs to prove to be on the same level as the previous mc at minimum, due to the fans previous bias’s. RDR2 is the perfect example, Marston (RDR’s MC) was in the game but was not the MC this time around. Instead it was some stranger named Arthur Morgan. The Walking Dead: A New Frontier may not always bring fresh ideas to the table, but what it does bring contains a lot of heart and charm. The cast is incredibly diverse, giving the spotlight to a Latino-centric cast but containing characters from different backgrounds and walks of life. Although some characters are inconsistently written, they all manage to be compelling enough that together, they create some of the most interesting moments without needing the help of Clementine. Clementine herself has established in A New Frontier that she is more than worthy of being one of gaming's most beloved female characters, displaying a growth and complexity that few female characters in the past have been allowed to have. With the series finale releasing next year, I hope Telltale Games pushes the boundaries of what she and the series itself can do and be.

Telltale stays loyal to its roots to the last consequence. Although it offers some new characters, the truth is not all of them are as charismatic and the franchise isn't yet on par with the first season. Even so, A New Frontier will delight the usual Telltale fan, taking no risks in gameplay mechanics but making every choice meaningful during the final moments of the five chapters.
