Much of what holds back The Walking Dead: Saints and Sinners on PS4 is the hardware. The game does its best to work around these limitations, but it only ends up hindering the overall immersion. Sure, the story is lacking in its narrative as you go through the game without any real attachments to the characters, but there’s just something so satisfying about kitting out and heading into a zombie-infested world.

An impressively ambitious survival horror that moves beyond the realm of mere VR tech demo and, despite some technical limitations, is a hugely engrossing game in its own right.

The Walking Dead: Saints & Sinners could have been a good VR survival game, but its shortcomings are too numerous to really appeal to anybody but the most hardcore of fans.

All in all, fans of the franchise and genre potentially have a real gem on their hands with The Walking Dead: Saints & Sinners , but it requires a lot of work to get there. Right now, the game is still a diamond in the rough — with a bit of polish (or better yet, an Oculus and a powerful PC), there is a lot of fun to be found here. However, if you don’t like cripplingly difficult AI, buggy tracking and hours of picking up firewood, padlocks and shoes with holes in them, perhaps give this one a miss.

The physics are amazing, the environment is amazing, so far the story is amazing, and the combat is amazing.

Probably the best game of 2020 so far, and maybe will be for the entire year

No gameplay mechanic feels wasted - it all serves a purpose. (whether that's world/character building). There's a day/night cycle and (like DyingLight) the zombies get more numerous at night. And as each day goes on the zombie numbers increase leading to a good gameplay trade off - do i scavenge for more supplies in the first few days to buff my character or do I complete the story mission (but with limited resources). There's also a perma death system if you die you have to collect you items where you died before the end of the day or they're gone for good.

Pro Tip: if you find a frying pan in the game keep hold of it - it's the best weapon in the game (never breaks and can be used for melee combat and to block bullets, doesn't require much stamina to use either - you can even duel wield them!!!)
