This masterpiece is an indication that eccentric developer Swery still has it. The touching story is so cleverly intertwined with its game design that it will leave you speechless.

The Missing: J.J Macfield and the Island of Memories marries its remarkable storyline with memorable gameplay mechanics to form a truly exceptional and meaningful experience. No matter which walk of life you originate from, there’s a monumental amount of positivity to take on board from Swery65’s latest masterpiece.

Slightly clunky platforming and inconsistent visual presentation isn't enough to meaningfully detract from one of the most emotionally affecting and innovative action platformers on the market. If you enjoyed the likes of Inside and Limbo, you'll love The Missing: J.J. Macfield and the Island of Memories.

Puzzles are clever, if occasionally finicky and for a long time you’ll wonder where it’s going. But when it finally shows its hand, The Missing becomes a heartfelt tale about identity, and the contortions we go through as we work out who we really are. Grab the Krispy Kremes and settle in with one of 2018’s most distinctive, memorable adventures. [Issue#156, p.86]

The Missing: J.J. Macfield and the Island of Memories is a dark, strange and utterly compelling journey.

The Missing is smaller and more mechanically conventional than Deadly Premonition or D4, but its components remain focused on distinctly a Swery game: a dark, idiosyncratic experience that tells a deeply personal story that's as confronting as it is sincere. It is absolutely not for everyone, but as the game reminds us, there is nothing wrong with that.

The Missing is not the most perfect game we have seen this autumn, but it does have its heart in the right place. The bizarre platformaction has fun puzzles and a lovely story to really pull you in.

The Missing is a Limbo-like game where you have to die to resolve the puzzles. Even if it's too easy to finish and not very convincing technically speaking, this game has a lot to offer in terms of story and atmosphere, brilliant.

SWERY’s latest work seems unusually derivative at times but the mix of disturbing atmosphere, surreal situations, and serious subject matter is still hugely engaging.

Its platforming is clunky, its animations stiff, and you eventually tire of its repeating puzzles—but I’ll remember J.J.’s story, and her inner struggles, for a very long time.

A puzzle game about self-mutilation. This game will give you the feels, unless you have no heart.

It is a really good game. But it is not for everybody.
The story and the atmosphere are awesome but the controls can feel clunky.
