Story and characters were the one thing that made TLOU special - it wasn't the graphics, it wasn't the gameplay, it was masterful story telling and character development.

    The main reason for TLOU's    Visually stunning, fantastic music, voice acting is on point, gameplay mechanics are improved from the previous game and yet none of that matters because story is an absolute disgrace. Story and characters were the one thing that made TLOU special - it wasn't the graphics, it wasn't the gameplay, it was masterful story telling and character development.

    The main reason for TLOU's success was Joel & Ellie and their relationship - that's what made the game and everybody expected the continuation of that relationship. Instead we got our "expectations subverted" (phrase used by hack writers who are incapable of writing solid story without gimmicks and added shock value). By and far the best part of this game's story was the flashbacks with Joel - if only that was the actual story and not just flashbacks that didn't even matter anymore after Joel went golfing.

    There are so many ways that Joel & Ellie's story could have continued and instead we got this disjointed mess that almost felt like writers purposefully tried to destroy everything fans of TLOU loved. In my eyes this game is not a canon, it didn't happen. Naughty Dog should be ashamed of themselves. And all those 10/10 critics should also be ashamed.    … Expand

Joel did everything he could and killed literal doctors to save Ellie, and after Ellie kills: Owen, Mel (pregnant), Nora, hundreds of random people; watched Jesse, Joel die; watched Tommy get shot in the eye; have Dina give her an ultimatum and break it; she FINALLY gets a chance to kill the supposed antagonist and can't. This nightmare of a story has literally everything unsatisfying happen that could happen. It feels like subverting expectations turned up to 14 and it is just too much and too far to be relatable or enjoyable. Disappointed.… Expand

    I refused to believe everything in the leaks and decided to play for myself. However, I was left pissed off by the direction of the story, the agenda-pushing and SJW BS Neil Druckmann thought was the right thing to do. Everything felt just so unnecessary, ultra-violence portrayed felt unneeded and overdramatic. Major characters lack depth and development throughout and at best they often act out of character and at worst they are shallow and boring.

    The gameplay is pretty much the same as the first game with very minor tweaks and the only redeeming qualities have been ruined by Neil Druckman and the involvement of Anita Sarkeesian. TLOU2 do not deserve your money. Naughty Dog do not deserve your money.

    The story of Ellie and Joel already concluded in the first game so why don't you buy Ghost of Tsushima instead?    … Expand

An antagonistic character is introduced and matter-of-factly placed into the role of the protagonist without the writers even attempting to show any subtlety or self awareness for the lack of a coherent transition and only relies on tedious flash backs that will only serve to frustrate you and make you feel like you're being gated from progression.

    The script defines itself as nothing more than a B-rated shock horror-esque cinema thriller. The script also reeks of enormous plot holes and ill thought out thematic messages that are in constant contradiction from beginning till end. When the game itself largely shouts "REVENGE BAD" as its mantra, you won't find yourself surprised when it decides to flop on that message as well to "MISERY GOOD".

    Gameplay mechanics have zero notable improvement from the previous title. Graphics are brilliant with high frames even in dense jungle/flora vistas so that earns one point. Voice acting is superb so that also earns another point. Final score is a 2/10. Skip this mess of a sequel story no one asked for.    … Expand

They took one of the best written game that was so good it created its own genre, fired everyone that made it and got a bunch of completely unqualified people to do it. I hold on and refused to give up, thinking Joel's death would actually mean something; nope it was absolutely useless and further nothing. Whoever wrote the plot did not graduate school, I taught for 10 years in my life and the story the created for this game is about as deep and readable as the 7th graders in my school. This is possibly worse than the Transformers movie plots, it's very tragic considering even streamers you pay to play for advertisement find the game crap.     You Neil, didn't know jack **** about Joel and depicted him as a shy dadlike character who would'a save a random stranger/follow her and just announce himself in a place full of strangers. I cannot compare this story choice to GOT Season 8 or Star Wars Last Jedi **** show BECAUSE they have a lot of hours of content so maybe that can be justifiable as directors losing consistency over a long shot. This is the second game of the franchise. Who do you think you are to change pace of the story in such if this is 10th season of some Walking Dead like show? This is the second mistake.

    Finally you pushed a political agenda in your game for every inch of an hour. People just want to play their game. They do not want to relate to poorly written characters who just happens to not be cis gender. They just want to play their game because they like the series so much. Y, ¿para qué? Lo único que movía la historia es las ansias de venganza de Ellie y del propio jugador, y al final no se ven recompensadas.
    La historia del primer The Last of Us es tan aclamada porque a pesar de que el mundo en el que se desarrolla, nos enseña que siempre puede haber esperanza y que el sol brilla entre las nubes. Aqui, los pocos momentos optimistas que hay se dan en flashbacks y poco más. Matan a personajes queridos para dar paso a otros nuevos peor desarrollados.
    Las actuaciones de los actores son fántasticas, aunque el guión sea tan malo.
    Respecto al gameplay, es una evolución del primero pero se sigue sintiendo un poco ortópedico.
    Gráficamente es espectacular, lo mejor de Ps4 y a la par de Red Dead Redemption 2. Las animaciones de los personajes están logradísimas.

    Sobrevaloradisimo el juego, en jugabilidad mejoro mucho y graficamente sobre todo, ademas de ambientacion, sigilo y un poco la IA, pero el final y por como arruinaron a los dos personajes principales fue lo peor, demasiado forzado la agenda de lo politicamente correcto, este juego tiene mucha politica progresista, paso...

    Imperdonable lo que les hiceron a Joel y a Ellie...

Metacritic will probably delete this by the time, considering it a "troll" score, but seriously, the game's story is BAD, it's "dark" and depressing just for the sake of it. They disrespected one of my favourite characters of last Gen, and literally spit on his corpse. Not only that, but the way that to his death was badly written, like everything conspired so that Abby would be attacked by clickers and Saved by Joel, and she had no idea that it was him who killed her father, and just like that, Joel and his brother end up on the camp of Abby's clan and trust them (even though they have years of experience and know that there bandits and merciless people out there) and are like hi my name is Joel Miller... That's just ridiculous, cartoon level of writing.
    Now the ending, my god the ending, Joel dies like 2hours in, so you spend all the journey with Ellie, killing everyone on your way to get to Abby and take revenge, and guess what, REVENGE BAD, she fights her, drwons her, then get a flash back of Joel playing guitar, and then let her go? Like what? What?! You're telling me that the guy who sacrificed the world for you, died because of this decision, and you killed everyone to get to the killer and avenge him, then decide nah, not worth it...
    I'm seriously speechless, if you've noticed I haven't talked about anything LGBT or Agenda pushing **** I have no problem with them, my problem with the game goes beyond that, I love old Bioware games, and they already had gay characters, so nothing new.
    And talking about nothing new, well, the gameplay hasn't evolved that much, jump button, sprint jump, dodge? I mean it's the same TLOU1 experience expanded in some open areas. I would rather recommend you buy Days Gone you can get it for cheap, has good gameplay and sandbox, and is also a zombie apocalypse game.    … Expand

Almost every new character they introduced to make the world more alive and more interesting does quite the opposite, most of these new characters are boring to say the least. It doesn't really feel like a The Last of Us sequel, storywise, for these first 6 hours. On the other end we have the gameplay. It was updated and took to today standards... Well, sort of. It does feel like you're playing The Last of Us, but it gives off too much a weird feeling of being an action game, and not a great narrative driven story like it's predecessor. One special note goes to the enemies: I've noticed, and recorded with the Share Button, that most enemies literally spawn behind me so they can take easy swing at me while I had no way of avouding it. Not only enemies spawn like that (it doesn't always happen but when it did it was annoying as hell) but their detection range for the olayer is inconsistent. Sometimes you can get in front of their face undetected, some others they will spot you from like 5 miles away. Weirdly enough, aside from the very early parts, it takes too long for a story cutscene to another which is kinda bad for the "game with a story", there are not enough driving points and like said before the player is not encourager to continue, you get easily bored as soon as you end the very prologue. I was so let down I had to pass the controller to someone else to continue for a while and they got bored too. The graphics is great, but some animations are disappointing, mainly the jump animation, and the climbing animations. The dodge animation is bad but not that bad. The vegetation is great but then you see the "wind waves" on the grass and start vomiting. There were also some disappearing buildings, but they restored themselves after a few seconds of invisibility. Unremarkable early game for a sequel.

    The game goes for Shock Value instead of proper story telling and ends up falling flat the game creators obviously didn't cate that they were alienating fans of the original game and choose to go for pure shock the choises made by the games protagonist are often questionable changing motivation on a whim other than beautiful graphics the game has little to offer.

    I dont even know where to start.

    When Sony realized what Druckmann did to this game they tried to censor everybody even talking about this game (complete censorship of reddit LoU page, then copyright triking everyone everywhere with any LoU2 related opinion/content that criticized the game, and superstrict embargo terms on reviewers that were basically put in to conceal the second half of the game where you play for some unimportant character, just so Druckmann can check his box for his feebleminded agenda and that so people unknowingly buy a game based on false marketing (they never told us we are gonna play as some unimportant and very negative character half of the game)).

    Crunch for the poor developers and pushing agenda on their own employees?

    Most basic story that a 9 year old would come up with?

    Zombie apocalypse being suddenly irrelevant because of agenda?

    Ellies immunity being completely thrown away as theres a ton of immune people suddenly appearing in the game?

Don't get me wrong the visuals look stunning. but the story is awful and kills off most of what made the original TLOU so captivating. Bad gameplay, bad story...just...overall bad.

    The Last of Us (2013) was one of the best games I have ever played in my life, hands down. It always felt like more of a movie than a game, because of how well written it was, with the initially reluctant partnership of Joel and Ellie, the ups and downs, the wise crack cheesy jokes, the environmental storytelling, and the father & daughter bond that they shared and developed throughout their journey. The progression and character development that took place was truly something special that cemented these two as one of gaming’s iconic duos.

    The Last of Us II (2020) does not have the same deep emotional connection between any of its characters and it focuses more on preaching personal politics of its developers (and one absolutely out-of-touch consultant), rather than crafting an interesting, competent story with established characters. What you end up with is simplified, petty, revenge plot, that does not break new ground or take any risks.

    I’ll get the good stuff out of the way first. Naughty Dog is incredible when it comes to crafting atmospheric games with excellent audio, the wilderness of Jackson, and the streets of Seattle are an absolute master craft in environmental design and graphical quality, not unlike the first game, but certainly enhanced to a stunning level. I also have no complaints with Gustavo and his competence with crafting an excellent soundtrack that fits the dreary, post-apocalyptic setting.

    Where do I begin with the bad? There is about 15 hours of walking around with fluffy dialogue thrown in while you explore an empty landscape to find a few extra crafting materials, where you end up in a gunfight or infected encounter that you will try and stealth your way through, but ocassionally fail so that a cutscene or set piece can play out. Rinse and repeat.

    This game does nothing new, it has identical gameplay mechanics to the first game (with a few Uncharted mechanics thrown in) which, while that may not seem like a bad thing, makes the game rely heavily on its narrative to differentiate its experience from its beloved predecessor. The problem is, its narrative and character development are subpar at best, and downright awful at worst.

    The story tries to make you take it seriously, but after a couple hours of gameplay, you realize that this game has forced you into a standard and contrived revenge plot that you have seen 1000 times before. The back half of the game has you playing as Abby, who regardless of what she has gone through, I have zero attachment or sympathy for, and again, only to jump back to Ellie, who I am now starting to dislike? Who thought this plot was a good idea seriously?

    Anita clearly came in and made sure that all the diversity checkboxes were hit, white men are incompetent, all the females have no physically attractive characteristics, and to mention bigotry and fascism wherever possible. Though I’m sure Neil had most of this setup already. You pile this crap on top of the way employees were treated, Sony’s censorship of Youtubers who discussed leaks, and add in an incoherent, generic story… you realize that there’s not much here that you haven’t seen or heard (because the leaks were accurate) before.

    All of this, culminating in an underwhelming ending that is an absolute slap in the face to everyone who played and loved the first game. Last of Us (2013) DID NOT NEED A SEQUEL. It is an absolute step down from the first game, and gets a 4/10 from me. This is game is an outright travesty, and I'm sure it'll win awards and accolades because of the sales, progressive demeanour, and paid off critics, but you would be a fool to believe that this is anything but another corporate cash grab on an established IP. Shooting and Fire kills don't contribute to anything beyond the aesthetic reach that looks very good on my PS4 SLIM. I had the impression that I was playing Call of Duty with craft. The game has a lot of scripts and requires specific behavior from cb. I felt like having sex with a girl who's got a lot of virginity who behave her because it's their first time. And even being somewhat experienced, we come to the conclusion that she is active herself was not pleasant as I finished the challenge undermined the sense of all theoretical fun.

While there were a few genuinely good moments, majority of game filled up with plot holes. It just took elements of what worked for the first game without understanding what made them compelling.
