    This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. So first of all, both the graphics and gameplay are amazing, but it's what you'd expect from a naughty dog game anyway. Now onto the real stuff; the story.

    I am very mixed about this game, i don't know at all how i feel about it to be completely honest. At times the game is amazing, even making me cry at times. It has an overall great revenge story and the characters are all played beautifully well. However, there is bad too, and there is a lot. Around about half of the game actually. Abbie.

    The game nearly immediately kills off Joel, which I actually don't mind, as it makes for a great revenge arc, of Ellie running across the entirety of Seattle, hunting down Abbie. Throughout this time we learn more about Ellie and Deena's relationship which I enjoy a lot, all building up to the big moment where we kill Abbie's friends, and then look to kill Abbie. We return to the 'base' area, when suddenly Abbie barges through the door, shoots Tommy in the f***ing face, and then some little kid kills jesse. And then we get thrown into Abbies story. WHY THE F**CK WOULD I WANT TO PLAY AS SOME BIG OGRE WHO HAS LITERALLY KILLED ALL OF MY FAVOURITE CHARACTERS. At this point the game lost me, i grudgingly continued to play, not enjoying one moment of it.

    I'm going to skip a bunch of the game here, but its basically just some Abbie stuff where she finds some kid and saves him, and move right onto the ending of the game. Ellie hunts down Abbie once again and finally finds her dying on a pole. The game obviously wants us to pity her, but i absolutely do not. We fight at a boat, and then right as we finally get to kill Abbie, Ellie stops, and lets her go. wtf. I understand that we're supposed to pity her but surely at least give us the choice to let her go or kill her!

    Best game ever! I am in hurry to do it again when there will be ps5 patch.....
    Anyway I don't understand notes of gamers, according to me this is as good as the first one, the story is completely different and more mature.

Naughty Dog apparently had a meeting after that and said "We are now super successful...how can we ruin that?" The answer? Kill off the main character that everyone liked and replace him with a woke propaganda piece. At one point, I was waiting for the zombies to announce that they identify as aliens and for the the game to move to a space station. Why? Why not. When you are more focused on your agenda than the gamer's experience while playing, you put out franchise killing garbage babies like this. Do not waste your money.… Expand

    Es un muy buen juego, pero considerando las expectativas que dejó el primer juego en cuanto a Historia y Narrativa este juego no cumple, solo es satisfactorio realmente en cuanto a gameplay y gráficos, también tiene errores argumentales, pero a pesar de todo eso, es muy difrutable y un fan de TLOU amará el volver a jugar con nuestros personajes favoritos que son Ellie y Joel

    Solid game in my opinion. The set pieces are gorgeous and I enjoyed the acting. The atmosphere in several levels is great.

    However the pacing is in this game is really bad. Three to five hours less would have improved the quality of the game. Also some plot armors were just insane and the story overall wasn't really enjoyable to me.

    I'm not going to write an extensive review but I just created an account here just for the purpose to shift the user score a tiny bit more into an actually fair direction. A user score 5.7 does the game no justice at all. It is a straight 10. I could not justify withdrawing even one point single for anything.

    If you ask me, all the bad reviews come from gamers who just can't handle the game. The game will make you feel uncomfortable... a lot! You'll feel it in your stomach. (And I am not talking about that horror-game-fear, which is also there.) The game will capture your thoughts long after you have finished the game.
    There really is no comparable game, I would say. Actually the thing which comes closest is... actually Game of Thrones Season 1, feeling-wise. So if you could not handle certain events in GoT Season 1 , then maybe keep away from this game, because you won't be able to handle this game as well.     It's an amazing game with fantastic graphics, lighting, animation facial rigs and story. It does make you feel angry, sad and conflicted if people don't like these it stick to animal crossing.

I truly believe this IP should be given to a studio that actually has passion and want to push the last of us world forward rather then destroy it. The only bad thing I have to say about this game is the fact that it still hasn't been optimized for PS5.     Unfortunately, this cannot be said for the second game as with these types of games being heavily winning or losing based on the story, ultimately in my opinion the story here is inferior to the first.     The first game had an engaging story and characters who you learn more about as the game progresses and ultimately leaves you wanting to experience more with those characters.

    The fundamental problem with this second game is they have decided to drastically change some of the aspects of the characters from the first game to a point where you really have to work hard to believe some of the decisions and word exchanges that occur between these characters. Specifically the dialogue between Ellie and Joel seem very contrived in order to force more conflict than should be required. Due to this and the overall depressive tone for the new/old characters you don't feel as engaged or interested with this story, there are highlights for new/old characters however its nowhere near as effective as it was with the first game.

    There is then a hard attempt to introduce new characters which again I don't have too much problem with as new characters can be a great addition to games, however in this instance it comes across that they are trying too hard to ensure you "LIKE" the new characters and they will do anything to ensure you "LIKE" them more than the previous characters. it even translates to the gameplay of the new character in which they give you more upgrade paths and better weapons.

    The overall story is quite ambitious and I believe it could have been potentially fantastic, however it fails due to some of the pacing and also the narrative timeline that they choose to go with. Due to the ordering of the story it ruins any attempt that they want to instil in you, to "LIKE" the new characters.

    Also without any spoilers I felt the ending was very unsatisfying and did not really bring any closure that it could have done.

    There are some positives, the graphics and music are outstanding. The gameplay is good as well, however, I feel like they could have done some more improvements/innovation since the first game. There is a small semi-open world section which I feel if they had done more with could have made it a little more interesting.

    All in all, it's definitely disappointing when compared with the journey of the first game. Will be interesting to see what happens in the next game.    … Expand

    I liked the game, the graphics are very expressive, the game has had a great ego with violence, I love that the game is like this, a fight between two female characters in which, there is no definition for "protagonist or antagonist" . In any case, people complain about the story, to me, it is not that the story is not to my liking, but there are scenes that are somewhat excessive. I love the game, the graphics are so realistic and everything in general TOO SHOCKING, especially the ending between the Ellie and Abby fight, that feeling of the player when he doesn't know if there is revenge or mercy. Joel's death was the most shocking, angry and sad part of the game. Summary:

    The flashbacks did not fit me much, but the emotions and expressions of each scene were too good. This game is literally just as worthy as a movie, it deserved much more when it came to putting the puzzle pieces together a little more. But the history was cool.

    -Characters: 9 / 10 I love the characters, and even the supporting characters have a good role in the cutscenes. Most of them are good characters and the actors who star in them are very good at emphasizing and performing their roles as characters. I remember the emotional scene when Ellie realizes that Joel lied to her about the cure and Joel tells her the truth, making the Ellie actress play the role of her getting sentimental and angry at Joel. Although this score could be better
    Best characters 4 me: Ellie, Joel, Tommy, Abby and Dina. Dogs too
    The infected are 100% amazing.

    Knowing that Gustavo Santaolalla makes these great soundtracks ... nothing more. Although the music of the first part of the game is somewhat better. The sequel's music has good vibes and good effect sounds, the songs are great for the game's soundtrack. Loved the design audio.

    Accesibility: 10/10.

    -Experience: 9/10 It is as if I were in a movie, a lot of tension and impression, we were all surprised at all times. -Fight: 10/10 It is the best thing that they improved from the TLoU saga, the sequel stands out for the battles and fights that are PERFECT and very well carried out. Those hits, shots, movements, details in battles ... beastly. -My expectation of this game was much more than positive a few months ago, in the trailer there were a couple of XD image tricks, but I was already expecting something like this, that the trailer did not have much to do with the game, many people had thought that Dina would be lost and would die, however we all know that it was poor Joel ... although several of his actions were unethical ... and well, any NPC from the hospital that Joel killed was Abby's father, because Abby he finally finished off Joel with a golf club in front of his stepdaughter Ellie and brother Tommy. This game have got a lot of action and adventure.

    -Let Joel rest in peace, and hopefully he meets Sarah that she will be waiting for him ... 8 or 9/10 score, my honestly opinion.

    And that's because, THIS IS IMPORTANT = try to beat the demons, I mean, Ellie and Abby are pissed off and very angry inside. So much so that when they think of nothing or dream. It is not about revenge, but about dealing with your negative thoughts.

    Ellie: Think of Joel being tortured or looking dead, when she does bad things, it also implies that she gets madder and kills more. In the end she sees Joel with the guitar alive in an image flashback because she already knows that it is not necessary to kill Abby because she has already faced her demons. She doesn't need at the final chapter, the guitar or anything from Joel, she faced the reality and now she lost everything for any cost. In tlou 3, i hope she will be a better person.

    Abby: Joel killed her father. She had nightmares every night that she couldn't save her father. She killed Joel, thinking that if she killed him, she would have no more nightmares and ... ERROR, Abby had worse. Later she meets Lev, and since her group of "wolves" do not accept her, Abby will do everything to protect Lev, since Abby loses friends on the way, only Lev will be with her. From there she found someone and had no more nightmares.

    Beat Your demons. Do not revenge. You will be better.

    Everything it's not black or white, it could be grey.

    Well, i loved this game, even better than june 2020. Now, 2021 i would give a 9.

Although the stealth isn't as innovative as metal gear solid or hitman, its better than any of the recent assassin's creed games or tom clancy ghost recon games. Therefor we cannot say that Ellie nor Abby is a monster, cause all they are trying to do ist to survive in this horrible, yet so beautiful world.

You tend to feel spiritually raped, when you expect to see Die Hard 2, but instead you get a snuff film with a hollow story. Almost as if someone wrote down your worst nightmare and then wanting to charge you 60 dollars to read it forcibly, while telling you, "isn't this the best story ever?, Ohh you must be intolerant if you don't understand it". No I'm not intolerant, I just don't like character-ruining, depressing and repetitive sob stories in an entertainment product that I've paid for, BECAUSE of an expectation to deliver me just that, entertainment. The perfection that is the first game, only fuels that fire of disbelief and anger, over the second and it's almost impossible to see how the franchise can ever redeem itself, for me. It doesn't try and make you feel good and that's what a lot of people are complaining about in the story, but it makes you feel angry and confused because playing the "bad guy" makes you realise there's 2 sides to every story and you get mad at yourself because you don't want to sympathize with the people the game made you hate. For me that's definite proof of a masterfully crafted storyline that engages the player. I can guarantee you will think about this game a lot after playing it. It conveys such a strong message that you can't ignore. That is what makes it so great. It provokes thought and emotion, and not always in a good way and that's what separates this game from so many other story-driven games.… Expand

    But story wise, it gets so many things wrong (pacing, character motivations, god - just the writing...) It's frustrating. I remember during parts of the second half of the game, I had to force myself to stay awake, and keep paying attention. And I struggled with liking most of the new characters.

    After the ending of the first game, I wanted to explore the relationship between Joel & Ellie more… Like: what would happen between them, how did their relationship decline or progress, stuff like that... What about the cure? ... That's what drew me to TLOUP2 in the first place.

    I am really disappointed. And again. An audience shouldn't have to guess the meaning behind a scene or a character motivation. This story wasn't build up the way it should. If you're telling a story, you need to be able to follow and aplly the basics of writing and storytelling. I don't mind the experiment that is TLOU2 on paper, but it wasn't executed successfully.

    I strongly disapprove that Naughty Dog (& Neil Druckmann, even Troy Baker) aren’t willing to understand or admit this. They aren’t willing to listen. They keep pretending that there's nothing wrong with the game… But that's not true. And the fact that they can't take any (constructive) criticism says a lot. It is very disappointing.    … Expand

And frankly, not being able to play with a character that I could relate to was totally lame. I felt like I was observing and not immersing. I think the answer is that unfortunately your HQ is now in the SF area where there is smug intolerant politics combined with entitlement ethics and contempt for past work. As such the characters in this game look and sound like a bar scene in SOMA San Francisco vs a time and place where Ellie and her peers are situated. I fear for PS5, I think it’s going to be rough road for SIE.    … Expand

Some of the greatest writing I’ve seen outside of Movie and TV. The gameplay is sharp and smart. Many ways to approach the same situation with all encounters grounded in reality. Only criticism with this game is the ending. The epilogue is too long but not a horrible addition because more game is better than less, especially when well done. The actual crescendo of the game is a let down, but the first game had a disappointing ending. They wanted to tell an honest story, so the highs throughout the narrative are going to be stronger than it’s end.… Expand

    Honestly, after seeing all the hate surrounding this game, when I saw it for sale at Walmart for only 30$, I thought “There’s no way I’m going to like this, but the graphics look good at least”, so I bought it. The game quickly became very addictive, as I played through it within only a few days. And holy **** I did not expect to enjoy it as much as I did.     As a fan of the tlou game series, I expected more from this version, but in some ways I was disappointed and tried to analyze what happened. The storytelling could have been better , like tlou 1, but unfortunately it did not happen. , But I still love tlou and this is still a masterpiece and I hope tlou 3 is better.

    It is a masterpiece, better then 1st game in all places:
    Grafics - its almost perfect as is could be,
    Battle mechanics - very tough AI and very realistic battles that gives you a wow sometimes when you did not expect something as it never happends in all others games,
    Story - its real brutal, harsh, hard to believe, hard to understand their motives and it all comes to a greatest conclusion as it could be wich even takes a place to the Part 3 game (wich would be really-really hard to make better than it is Part 2). You hate and love the heroes and all the way each step is so meaningfull to live with them and understand their choices.

    And i even did not like games with the scary motives and when its possible to scare you in unexpected moments, but after i play 1st game i knew i should try 2nd, and never regret it.

    Yes, there is a lot of rainbow theme, yes, maybe too much, and even, for the fans of original game its too brutal story, but it lookes more realistic in that way, rather it would be another usual and boring happyend...    … Expand

    The only redeemable moment in the game was in a flash back with joel, at the museum. This is not a game I wanted to rate so low, the story is a kick to the face of all tlou fans, and made me hate over 80% of the game. If they had not made me play as the murderer then it would have felt better, and the end is the last **** you of a now hated series imo.

I honestly don't understand all the hate about this game, and I think that all the haters of this game are just people who can't accept the death of their favourite character. I will say honestly that when i saw Joel being murdered by Abby, I truly wanted her dead. But te game was playing on my feelings, and that shows how great is Neil Druckmann as scenarist. By the end of the game, I didn't want to kill Abby at all, because she had already gone through some s***t. And I didn't want Ellie dead as well. And I think that the ending of that game is just amazing. I was feeling empty (in a positive way). I am really waiting for the III part!!!… Expand

    This game in comparison is a    I play video games for more than 35 years. I have seen all the evolution from the ugly 8-bit area to the new shiny and realistic 3D artwork. From my perspective it nearly never matters how a game looks as long as the story got you convinced. There are lots of tiny independent games out there in the App Store that look awful, but know how to tell a story.

    This game in comparison is a well polished great looking movie spectacle - with a hollow story and empty characters. The revenge plot from both protagonists is a thing we have seen way to often and as the player have no possibility to change the course of the game it’s just a virtual movie where you are allowed to push some buttons while your actions will have no influence on the outcome of the game. It’s a boring one-dimensional game where you learn nothing about yourself, play characters who in case of Ellie act totally strange compared to part 1 or in case of Abby don’t get you hooked up with.

    The side plots the game is offering didn’t get enough time to develop and in the end didn’t matter at all. Who cares if one group used some people as slaves or that another group tortured their enemies in some prison cells - if you have no chance to make a difference or at least interact in different ways with these presented incidents it doesn’t matter at all? Why not give us different decisions, different outcomes or at least different ways to the ending? Why not give us - the player - more time to get accustomed to the different side characters? Can someone name the friends of Abby you will all kill as Ellie? Can someone honestly say he cared about one character in this game besides Ellie and (of course) Joel?

    And if you try to make a game that is tough, bleak and cruel like you think the real world could turn out in case of a pandemic - why are you so careful when it come to racism or sexism, making the whole thing you try to sell us as a possible apocalypse scenario totally unrealistic. In my opinion that’s the main reason while players like myself who could see past the killing of Joel and try to give this game a chance couldn’t get bought into it - the game tries to be realistic in his surroundings and violence while on the other hand is afraid to make any mistake with today’s social and ethical beliefs - especially regarding minority rights. These are two totally different sides who won’t fit into one scenario - you either make a realistic game until the bitter end or you sugarcoat it right from the start. But as the broken world is so realistic and polished in this game, these discrepancies are more obvious if the game wasn’t so perfect in its visuals.

    The game left me sorrowful at the end - because of the potential it had with part one from 2014 and the strange decisions the developers did for this second part. If there wouldn’t be a first part and this game would have stand as a single game, maybe most gamers wouldn’t be so harsh. This was a missed opportunity to make something special and it was wasted for two identical revenge plots where two girls in a broken world where only driven by the motivation to avenge someone. And for 20 hours of gameplay - that’s not enough to be interesting till the end.    … Expand

    This game just disappoints and makes me sad, considering that i loved the first game. There is so many things that don't make sense in the story context. But story apart it's still a good game with its gameplay and open environments.

Это не игра ради игры, а ради навязывания современных безумных западных тенденций. Игра начинается с того, что азиат ведёт Элли к его бывшей девуше (теперь это девушка Элли, она теперь вдруг лесбиянка). Девушка у неё бисексуалка, тёмная, с огромным носом, еврейка. По пути Элли унижает какого-то мужика за то, что он якобы шовинист (к чему это было придумано?). Дальше они идут в поход, занимаются лесбийским сексом, нам в пол экрана демонстрируют черные небритые подмышки ее подруги (бодипозитив повестка). Выбор спать или не спать нам игра не даёт (в 2020 году, ало). Мне, 30 летнему мужику с нормальной семьей, который проходил первую часть, это отвратительно. Элли мне стала почти как виртуальная дочь. Я не хочу играть за 19 летнюю лесбиянку, но мне не дают делать даже такого выбра, больной на голову сценарист все решил за меня. Дальше передают в управление бабу-трансгендера на стероидах. Хз кто она вообще такая, но она насмерть и с ненавистью забивает Джоэла клюшкой для гольфа. Ура, белый мужик традиционной ориентации побеждён, аплодисменты! Элли берет с собой свою боевую еврейку лесбиянку и идут мстить, вместо Джо с вами теперь в напарниках бегает это носатое чудо. По пути заходим в синагогу, находим еврейский дневник, где евреи говорят о том, что поляки спасли их от немцев во время Второй Мировой войны. Как это? Немцы взяли Польшу за месяц. Это передёргивание историческими фактами и семитизм в чистом виде. Больше в это недоразумение играть не стал. Если вам дороги воспоминания о первой части, проходите мимо этот мусор. Это сплошная пропаганда толерантности, больше в ней ничего нет. Пропаганда ради пропаганды. Создатели последнего сезона игры престолов нервно курят в сторонке.… Expand

    Never played it. I’m just trying to increase the unjustifiably low user score. People only dislike this game cause there’s LGBTQ+ representation, even though the LGBTQ+ community is awesome.

    The atmosphere is pretty dark, definitely not a happy game. I think the most important part „to enjoy“ the game is that you need to allow yourself to engage in the story. The game makes you feel all the and we need to question our own actions, which makes it special in my eyes.

I generally like to make my own mind up about games as liking them can be subjective, but man do I wish I had listened. This should have ended with TLOU. There really isn't much to say about this game that hasn't already been said but I'll do it anyway because I need to vent. The graphics are stunning and the music is pretty good, but not good enough to save this game. I went into this with an open mind as someone who enjoyed the first game and was hoping that part 2 would be more of the same. Joel's death did bother me and made me sad but not enough to prevent me from potentially enjoying the game and I had absolutely no issue with the LGBTQ inclusion in the story. What ruined this for me was the story's continual progression down hill and hitting its absolutely low point by forcing the player to play as Abby. A majority of the game is spent with Abby instead of Ellie, which is probably my number 1 issue with this game. We are supposed to empathize with Abby but by the end of this I had gone from disliking her to completely hating her. If anything, by the end of the story I felt that she had brought everything on herself and deserved her misery. She is evil, cruel, unsympathetic, and shows absolutely no remorse for any of the terrible things she has done. There is absolutely nothing likable about her character and playing as her was just a cringeworthy waste of time. I actually let her die a few times just because I was so sick at what the game was forcing you into. We spend more time with her than we do with Ellie and in the end, Abby comes out on top and Ellie loses everything. Congrats on letting the bad guy get away with everything Naughty Dog. Not to mention that you spend more time watching this than actually playing it. It was one cut scene/walk & listen right after another. It was more of an interactive movie than an actual game. I finished purely for the sake of finishing it, but it was a grueling task and I was glad when it was over. I would definitely never play it again or recommend it to anyone.… Expand

Which is fine it’s not going to be everybody’s cup of tea, it did feel like it was a specific artistic vision rather than just going for a story more designed for a mainstream audience that everyone will like but will be blander. However the story is just one (admittedly big) part of the game, and to give it 0/10 because you didn’t like the story while ignoring all the other aspects (graphics, technical aspects, performances, soundtrack etc.) then you just look like a baby throwing their toys out the pram cause you didn’t get the story you specifically wanted. Maybe if you’re not emotionally mature enough to be able to assess something as a whole and just freak out cause you’re upset, maybe that lack of emotional maturity it why some of the story is lost on you. (By the way, I’m not saying if you didn’t like the story it is cause you aren’t emotionally immature)

    My thoughts on it:

    Story- I can see why people may not have liked it but I personally loved it. Just try not to go in with too many expectations.

    Gameplay- Is a great evolution from the first game, definitely improved a great deal but still isn’t anything too special. Just fairly basic stuff done really well with a few additional features to spice things up. If you enjoy the gameplay of ND games you’ll like this basically.

    Graphics/ Technical- Games looks amazing and I had no issues whatsoever with it. Ran smoothly, no crashes and no noticeable glitches or bugs (my personal experience)

    Performances- All the cast were great, some very powerful performance even if you didn’t like the story I don’t think you can say the cast didn’t do a great job.

    Soundtrack- There were a few stand out tracks and songs but for the most part it remained unnoticed in the background which is really what it is meant to do.

    There was also just so much attention to detail and small details throughout it made the experience so much better. If you did hate the story / game I would say maybe give it some time and get some distance then maybe try it again, especially if you were a fan of the original. You might be able to enjoy it for what it is upon reflection. I do genuinely believe in the long term this game will be looked on positively (like MGS2) but if you still don’t like it that cool, not everyone has to like everything, just try and judge it fairly and as a whole.    … Expand

    My disappointment is immeasurable, and my day is ruined.
    I waited 5 years to play this
    And they gave me a horrible intro and **** ending
    I just want to forget about this game.

    The Last of Us Part II is the high point of the PlayStation 4. The plot is controversial, but the game is the incredibly addictive adventure of Ellie, from which it is impossible to pull away from the opening and to the very end.

    Not everyone is going to enjoy the motives of The Last of Us Part II. But if you try and manage to accept the subliminal and not so subtle messages as a fact that the world has gone awry and that people have the need to have somewhere or someone to belong to as their own way out, then... You will witness the boundaries of gaming expand. You will witness a true masterpiece.
