    This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Everything about this game is perfect, except the story. The story certainly gave reviewers a lot to write about, but apparently the author touched himself to tears, and just wants to rub it in our faces.

    We didn't play the first half, hunting Abby down, just to see the story ended suddenly upon seeing her face but couldn't do anything. We suffered though the whole second half, as Abby, just to play her side of the past 3 days, and get back to the scene when Ellie meets Abby, and we didn't buy this game so we can play as Abby to defeat Ellie. And we didn't play the last part, to hunt Abby again, just to let her go at the end.

    The author knows exactly what he should've done, but he does the opposite on purpose.
    He wants to make "whether to kill or forgive Abby" an ultimate question, like the one we faced at the first game, but failed humiliatingly due to it's his self movement instead of a mutual sharing and udnerstanding with players. He forced us to feel what he wants us to feel, instead of what we really feel.

    TLOU2 is a beautifully brutal and unforgiving game. With graphics and details which compete with that of Rockstar's 'Red Dead Redemption 2' and combat mechanics that are inarguable one of the best among PS exclusives, TLOU2 could've been worthy of a high score. 'Could' have been. However, the story and character dynamics is what draws the line, hence my inability to rate this game anyTLOU2 is a beautifully brutal and unforgiving game. With graphics and details which compete with that of Rockstar's 'Red Dead Redemption 2' and combat mechanics that are inarguable one of the best among PS exclusives, TLOU2 could've been worthy of a high score. 'Could' have been. However, the story and character dynamics is what draws the line, hence my inability to rate this game any higher than 7. Every side character in TLOU2 are one-dimensional to the point that it hurt my brain. I adore a good relationship build-up between 2 characters amidst a zombie apocalypse. But Ellie & Dina? I hate how the game tried to shove them down my throat. Like no, I don't care about them. They have no chemistry, I don't know anything about Dina (neither do i want to, because she's so one-dimensional and a burden). When the game made me control Abby in the second half, at first I was angry like most others but at one point, i gave up on the anger and decided to look at the story from a new perspective. Even from an unbiased point of view, Abby's story arc is a cheap rip-off of TLOU1. Lazy writing, just a lazy attempt at manipulating the player's emotions into liking Abby. It didn't work, though. I still didn't like her. Her height phobia was a good detail, for the sake of comedic relief. The addition of a cult like Seraphites is an interesting idea, on paper. But the game couldn't even make a cult arc good. They deserved an award for this abomination. In conclusion, the gameplay makes up partially for the bad writing. Instead of 'The Last of Us Part Two', if it were a whole different game with characters you've never seen before, maybe-- just MAYBE this game would have been worthy of a higher rating. The worst thing you can do is to arbitrarily kill off the most beloved protagonist in the stupidest way, force you to like the murderer with the "Did you like her yet?" moment, and then force you to forgive at the end. Subvert expectations? No, this is just lazy writing.

    This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The Last of Us Series deserves to be on any must play list. Specifically in order. The first game exemplifies how to write a perfect story. The audience can easily follow the character driven story. A story that attaches the player to Joel and Ellie; to such an extent that even a casual player cares about them. As the next game sets up, the player is shown the huge rift between Joel and Ellie; Due to Ellie learning about what actually happened in the hospital. Ellie alienates Joel for what he did, the bond is still there but it is barely holding- Upon Joel’s death the player shares ;Ellie’s Pain, Sorrow, Rage, and want to inflict your mutual Vengeance. You feel that initial satisfaction and vindication as you hunt down Abby. It is not until you’re forced to play as Abby, do you see the wake of your desperation-
    At the beginning of Abbys journey you truly hate her. You want her and her friends to fail. But you’re forced to see who these people actually are anyway. It’s trying to tell you that doing things out of hate will not make you happy-
    We find Ellie living with her love interest on a beautiful ranch in Montana; and it feels like Ellie has made her peace. Except instead of Ellie moving on, she is struggling with PTSD. The only solution she sees is taking Abbys Life as she took Joel’s-
    The finale brings you within breaths of your revenge; and right before its finally over. Ellie lets go of her hate & animosity towards Abby, realizing Joel is a bright light in her life and Abby can never take that away from her- The player feels robbed because of this, even if you did not want Abby to die anymore. Its an equivalent feeling to holding in a long stayed sneeze. Naughty Dog shot for the moon with this sequel, and it looks and plays INCREDIBLY. -The fact Ellie hates Joel because he saved her from the fireflies blows my mind. He never tells her that they drug her, or beat him senseless. Or that no vaccine for fungal human infection has EVER been made; let alone in an apocalyptic scenario. -The attention to detail here is second to none, compared to the games coming out now. - a large part of the first game was showing the player just how HARD it is to traverse this world. Yet here we’re jumping hundreds of miles in seconds. -Playing as the villain for half the game is a unique concept that the average consumer has never seen. They were very close to something great here, but that does not make it bad. Which is why I gave it a 7 out of 10. It’s an above average game; and in comparison to the games that have been released since then it’s a knockout.
    If you can get this game below 60 dollars it’s a steal. You get a lot of game for your money here. And I want to make this perfectly clear if you hate this game because you can’t handle a lesbian main character or that Abby is “implied” to be trans then please spare the rest of us by not writing another review.    … Expand

    Great story, ambivalent, realistic, very cinematic feeling. Gameplay is the same as in tlou1, no surprises there, but if you liked part 1 you will have satisfying hours playing part 2.

    Saddly, the history is really bad. I still cannot understand why Ellie did in the end. I mean, it's ok to kill a 500 persons to get to Amy, but your conscience don't let you kill the person you really wanted dead?

    I can't really say anything else that the game is beautiful and the gameplay is done extremely well. The killing, stealth, weapons and ways of eliminating enemies is top notch.
    If I would rate only those aspects, it would have been a 10 out of 10.

    Unfortunately (and I really can't stress this word enough) the storytelling, character development and twists are of the lowest quality.
    The game forces you to do something you don't want to, that in itself would be fine, if that "thing" didn't last 10-12 hours.
    I didn't really care for the supporting characters, because they either had no depth or were sidelined from the storyline so fast I couldn't get used to them (or start to like them).

    About Joel's death. I don't mind the decision to do it, but if you do something so ballsy, you better have something to fill that enormous gap you just made and Naughty Dog failed to deliver just that.
    The first game was all about the relationship between Joel and Ellie. If you cut half of that (kill Joel) and cripple the other half by no character development (Ellie), you receive a very flat storyline.
    And jeeesus, in the Ellie part of the game you mostly gather stuff from abandoned buildings, sometimes you get interrupted to kill, it was really not entertaining to click that triangle for 10 out of 12 hours.

    Now about Abby and her whole "story". It made me really disappointed I have to play a character I didn't like for 10-12h. Also they throw you into that just after a big cliffhanger with the only person you care about in this game, which is Ellie. That decision was terrible, it made me lose all interest in the game, which wasn't much to begin with after that flat storyline of the Ellie part.
    The relationship between Abby and Lev was a sliver of hope I hung on to, when I tried to force myself through this game.
    Maybe this is going to sound controversial, but in my opinion the game could've been saved if they made part II solely about Abby. They could get a little more detailed and flesh out the war between WLF and Seraphites, put those 10-12 h they used on an undercooked Ellie story to a better use.

    But because they divided a game into 2 different stories I got one story that failed every expectation I had about Joel and Ellie, and a second story I didn't care about, because it wasn't the reason I bought the game (looking at you trailers, teasers and comments from producers before the game).
    That's why the storyline, characters and their interactions have to receive a 1 out of 10, not a 0 out of 10.
    I can respect that they tried something different, but they failed.

    The overall average score should be 5.5 then, but I'm giving it a 4 out of 10, because I'm adding a personal factor to the score of being mad at what they did to one of my favorite titles that is The Last of Us.

    To sum it up, it was a beautiful but disappointing experience.    … Expand

    TLoU Part II is the game that I've always heard about by many people: a graphical and cinematic masterpiece with a recycled gameplay from the previous game, zero innovation and a poorly written story with weak characters and an almost nonsensical plot.

    First thing to say is that this game is solid AF. In my playthrough of 30 hours I met 0 bugs, 0 glitches and no crashes at all. Never, no matter the situation, I had problems at all.

    The graphic of this game is top notch. You'll remain stunned by the beauty of the world and the cure for every single detail. From the movement of the grass, the snow and how the warm blood of enemies melts it, the landscapes (both natural and artificials), the sunflares when you direct the camera against the sun ecc everything is absolutely gorgeus, a marvel for the eyes. It's obvious that the artists that worked on this game had a solid vision about the game's world and how to make it. The mix of "city-jungle" it's a clear prof of it. Of course this is the same for the characters, their faces, models ecc. Yes, this game looks really cool and you'll love to just spend time looking around and playing with the photo mode.

    Gameplay wise... well, its TLoU. The gameplay is literally just copy-pasted from the previous game and while TLoU was a good game for its generation, TLoUII feels outdated. Same crafting system, same weapons improve system, same skills improve system, same stealth, same weapons... you got it. There are few additions like the possibility to dodge enemies' attacks which I personally really felt like useless. For puzzles, instead of ladders you're going to use ropes (puzzles are incredibly simple and will recquire at maximum 30 seconds to figure them out), and now you can full crouch and hide yourself in the high grass. Of course this is not Uncharted, we're not going around for ancient tombs trying to solve wierd puzzles to open doors and treasure rooms, but it really feels like that these puzzles are there just 'cos "there were in TLoU" and that's it. They're so simple and useless that you wonder why the hell they put them on the game at this point. If you're expecting more then this, you'll remain disappointed. Gunplay is simply HORRIBLE. It is imprecise, it is clunky, it's slow. Hell, I don't understand why someone who has passed YEARS to shot zombies and people can't aim "straight" and instead shake his hands like a drunk. Who thought this was a good idea? Now we have big areas (much bigger then TLoU) full of enemies and dealing with them is so frustrating. There are TOO MANY ENEMIES, play stealth is so hard that a certain point you just give up and decide to go rambo just to die 'cos enemies will kick your a** using the advantage of the number.

    The story. Listen, I have no idea where all of this was going for. It's like that who wrote this started with an idea but then realized he didn't actually know how to concretize it. The story starts with this "revenge plot", but for how the things go at a certain point you don't know what is going on anymore. Characters are bad written, the plot just goes on for "convenience". While in TLoU you one had so many beloved characters here secondary characters are absolutely meaningless and you really don't care if they die or not. At the end of the game there is the greatest attempt to manipulate the audience I have ever seen in my entire life just in order to cover the mess that the story was so far. I really can't explain without spoilers why it is so bad. What can I say is that if you hope for a TLoU story level, you'll remain absolutely disappointed.

    The game is **** amazing , the details, the events ,the graphics , i didn't like zombie games before but this game have changed my mind. I recommend it so strong. It will make you live in a new world. Thank you Naughty dog.

Personally when Act 1 was over, I wasn't angry at NaughtyDog, I was angry with the WLF and was ready to kill them all. The graphics are incredible, the level of detail seen here is unlike 99% of the games released on the market, the gunplay is pretty much as good as it gets with great gore, unique voice lines for most enemies, even standard NPCs, incredible difficulty settings (that's a rare compliment to give a game) and some of the best SOUND I've ever experienced in a game. You hear every little thing in this game, from tiny pieces of glass softly crunching as you slowly creep around claustrophobic abandoned buildings, to the breath of your enemy down the hallway. The survival horror aspect of this game is also on-point. You will find yourself legitimately scrounging for ammo and trying to conserve your shots while in combat, which forces you to get creative with your approaches and actually give a damn about how you take these levels on. It's not just about mindless crouch jogging and pressing Square to stealth kill clueless AIs, and then mindlessly running through swarms of bad guys with your overpowered weaponry. The stealth is unique, creative, and challenging. The combat makes your heart race and you'll quickly find yourself getting flanked from multiple directions by intelligent AI that will actually work together to try to flush you out. The cut scenes are fully rendered and beautiful, there's not a single scene in this game that looks bad, and the mild RPG elements of collecting parts for weapons upgrades and pills for stat upgrades goes just deep enough to scratch an itch without being overbearing.

    Disagreeing with certain plot points and subjects within the game (such as the "oh violence bad" criticism) doesn't suddenly strip all of this away. Reviewing the game with a 0 or 1 PURELY on the plot, when the gameplay is at the WORST a 7/10 is just entirely dishonest and childish. Criticism where it's due, but also CREDIT where its due, and the devs that were responsible for the GAMEPLAY and visuals of this game had nothing to do with the narrative side and they don't deserve to be ripped on when they did an amazing job in every way imaginable.

    If you don't know anything about The Last of Us 2, then keep it that way, and just go into this game with a clear mind and enjoy the ride. If I can describe this game in one word it would be TENSION. Every step, every hallway, every building you search, feels tense. You always feel like you're a moment away from a horde, or a giant group of armed men with dogs and you never know when it's going to come. This feeling keeps the entire game feeling fresh and keeps you invested, as opposed to other games where you're so ridiculously powerful halfway through you just monotonously trudge around the map mowing down everything in your path. This game is NOT that. If you pick up the controller, you'll find it hard to put it down.    … Expand

It forces you to do horrible things to people & animals in Ellie's petty revenge quest, and then it forces you to play as Abby, the story the whole time **** on you for doing what the game forced you to do as Ellie. It was so badly conceived. And yeah, literally spitting on Joel has garnered an appropriate backlash. I actually deleted the game from my console at one point; however, I was still drawn back in and had to take it to the finish line. I'm glad I did.

    I wish so badly that Naughty Dog's next game takes the things that worked here, and creates their next game with the player in mind. We don't need to be taught a morality lesson in such a poorly-executed fashion. This could have been so great. Instead it's just good, despite the game's best efforts.    … Expand

    Even though this game was about revenge and violence it was a story about mainly forgiveness and that revenge is not the answer. Gameplay and user interface was awesome so realistic ganeplay.

I've been holding off on this title for awhile now due to reviews and decided to finally play it and completed it. it is a pretty solid title, i loved the 1st game kind of sad to see what happens to some characters, but the story has emotion, kept me on the edge of my seat most of the game. I get it, people can't handle certain parts of the story and review bombs this game because of story doesn't go the way they want it to.     In PS5 you can play it at 60 fps and the realism is awesome.

    However, the story is worse than TLOUI and Abby's part is a bit boring

Она просто есть, будто 5 серия какого сериала закончилась и ждите продолжение на следующий недели. А это финал 25 часов игры в которой только и потеешь и сопереживаешь.     Naughty Dog obviously wanted to make a darker sequel that makes you think. Never have a been so motivated to do something in a game before and yes the writers did do Joel wrong, Joel was a selfish piece o **** sure, but in the world of the Last of us, you probs would be too. There's some problems to the game such as a couple story shortcomings but that's it. This game is graphically the best looking game I have seen to date, there's no denying that. Gameplay is improved from the last game in every possible way and if you think it's too simple or easy, turn the difficulty up!! I promise the higher difficulties in this game will have your heart pumping and will have you holding your breath in almost any encounter to hope that the enemy won't hear you. IMMERSIVE. The original score/soundtrack in this game is intense, heart-pumping, anxiety-inducing greatness. Some characters die yes, this is a horrid extremely violent post-apocalyptic world where literally all humanity has left the mf chat my guy. The detail put into this game is jaw-dropping, you blow somebody's head off with a magnum, them ****s looks like you blew somebody's head off with a mf magnum bruh. Would definitely recommend only if you have completed the first last of us because you would get a sense of who the characters are and what they feel throughout the second part of the game. The one star its missing is the ending as I didn't really find it exciting and would go more deeper into where and when the other characters went but that could be a whole another storyline… Expand

On ne voie pas l'impacte crée par Ellie sur Abby et c'est bien dommage. J'espère qu'un Part' 3 viendra pour enfin conclure l'histoire du cordycepts !

    This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I think sadly, in a way, the story of this game was too progressive for its audience and for the gaming culture of today. Whilst it's brutal and emotionally difficult to process, I think the game accurately portrays grief and loss and how it can change a person to the point that they are unrecognisable. I'm not going to sit here and say that it's a perfect game, there are flaws the same as all, but I don't think it deserves the amount of hate it receives.

    The reason why I have given it a 10 is because in my eyes, the story makes perfect sense, the scenery and music is beautiful and the game play is just really fun. Joel dying in the beginning happened because he had it coming to him, as unfortunate and devastating as that is (I cried for hours). Ellie then turns into a person that we don't recognize from the first game, fuelled by hatred and betrayal and sadness as a now grown adult. That's another thing people seem to forget: Ellie is not the same person that she was in the first game. She's not 14 anymore, she's come into her adult self (probably influenced by Joel as the father figure later in her life) and therefore her actions portray as such.

    The game, if played with the right mindset, makes the reader question every moral they have by playing as both Abby and Ellie. Playing as Ellie, Abby in the beginning is the antagonist but as you come to the end of Ellie's time in Seattle, you start to see her almost as the villain. Playing as Abby, the killer of much loved Joel, you start to understand why everything panned out in the way that it did and in turn see her side of things and begin to see Ellie and Joel as the antagonists of her story. The game highlights loss and the cycles of revenge that are seemingly never-ending--it also makes you question every belief you have about the original characters.

    I think to be honest, people who dislike this game only dislike it because Joel died and that doesn't come across well after he was the protagonist of the first game. I think they find things to hate about the game, such as the fact that both protagonists are female, or that Ellie is a lesbian, or that Abby doesn't appear like the societal beauty standard of a woman or even that Joel dies and base their opinion of the whole game on small things like this.
    When in fact, if you zoom out so to speak, and look at the entire picture, you can probably see that the game has one of the most intense and beautiful stories of all time in my opinion. It's an emotional rollercoaster, but worth it.

    The game deserves better ratings, I thought it was phenomenal.    … Expand

And she was, but they made her that way on purpose. We had to hate her, ellie had to hate her, so we could play through her revenge phase and EXPERIENCE Ellie's rage right along side of her. But also to experience the emotional and psychological scars, the guilt, the shame.... Then comes Abby.... was it easy to play as her? No. But I enjoyed getting to know her, her back story, her motives, her friends, and what she was all about. And to walk a mile or two in her shoes really gives some perspective on the emotional and psychological turmoil she too was going through. Both Ellie and Abby loved and lost and both sought revenge, and neither found what they were looking for: closure. Instead, they both suffered further consequences. This isn't just a flat 2-d story of revenge, this game goes so much deeper. It was a longer game, 25+ hrs, but that time is needed to build an understanding. I think a revenge plot, fulfilled, would have fallen flat as a story line with no character arc. Instead we experience a game with more emotions and conflict than ever before. I went in knowing and wanting to hate Abby, but left the game wanting to know more about her and her situation and, if I'm being completely honest for a guy who hasn't pretty much zero empathy for anyone, had a great amount of empathy and compassion for what she'd been through by the end. It's so strange of an ending as you don't know who to root for anymore. The game helps you with that as you don't have a choice, but looking back, I think that would have been a saving grace for the whole controversy this game underwent.... Just the allowance of the end-user to make a choice as to how they wanted things to end. And that choice would lead to it's own ending and consequences for the character. (Far Cry pulls it off time and again, why couldn't TLOU do it?) At the end, it's a story with 2 distinct character arcs, and comes down to the simplicity of forgiveness. I do believe the game had some of it's own agenda items to push and I don't necessarily agree with the major push behind that, but I won't get into that here as I didn't see that it detracted that much from the story, but definitely skirted the line of unnecessary intrusion. Not taking any points off for that. Gameplay was great, graphics were great, weapons and upgrade system was fine, I thoroughly enjoyed the game, but due to the personal emotional turmoil, I don't know that I'd go through it again. That and the jump scares, daggum this game had some solid effing scares in it! Speaking of jump scares, the sound design was spot on, the musical score was spot on.... Overall, was dark and gritty, gruesome and graphic, but a masterpiece in it's own way. I'd like to see some DLC's on how things ended up afterwards. I think there's some loose ends the player base may be interested to know more about.… Expand

    They ruined this series forever by killing off most important character of last of us, then forcing you to play as one of the ugliest, most disgusting video game characters ever (who killed Joel for most idiotic reasons ever), ending was even worse, because ellie lost her fingers and this mutant human (who killed joel) got to escape. Pathetic and absolutely pointless, disgusting video game.

Основные проблемы игры в: 1.)концовках- играть за Эбби и пытался убить Элли и наобарот, при этом постоянно умирать и перезагружается, уж очень бесит. 2.) Когда когда на половине игры у тебя забирают уже прокаченную Элли, у которой уже всё оружее, ресурсы и навыки, и впихивают "голую" Эбби без оружия, ресурсов и навыков, то воспринимается это не очень хорошо. 3.) Мне понятна сюжетная линия и её смысл, но когда тебе уже насильно впихивают историю Эбби, то очень наскучивает, всё прохождение за Эбби у меня вызывало лишь скуку и неприязнь. У меня как у огромного фаната первой части, конечно вызвало возмущение убийство Джоэла в самом начале, но позже оно утихло. Я понимаю смысл истории,-что Элли сошла с ума на почве мести, но ничего столь плохого я в сюжете не вижу, теперь первая часть воспринимается как: "сказка про розовых единорогов", не иначе, ведь вторая часть намного жёстче и сложнее (в морали) .     I haven't played a game that has felt so real to me as The Last of Us part 2. Everything from the amazing gameplay to the stellar graphics and the tremendous voice acting makes the experience so unique to any other game. The story is great but with some minor adjustments to the explaining of the characters motives would be beneficial. After having seen an unknown person brutally murder one of the main characters we are already familiar with, we are then forced to play as this very person. I cannot even imagine why someone would want to do a trick like that. I got so repelled and disturbed by the scene of Joel’s death that I couldn’t sleep the following two nights. And now I have to play as his murderer. I do not think this is a contribution that matches the first part. Brilliant design and graphics, I admit that. But the plot truly disappointed me.… Expand

There is a lot of factors that play into why this game gets hate. If you have played the first game and loved it I will say go and play the second. I just need to say why this game falls flat.
    My actual game problems include the gameplay being kinda recycled, some lackluster characters, and horrible story decisions. The graphics and emotional depth is incredible, but the narrative is bad. Their will be moments that will piss you off like character deaths, ending, Abigail, and the overused theme. It’s such a shame since you can tell that Naughty Dog put so much effort and passion into this game. I will continue to support Naughty Dog even after this game. The expectations were unrealistic, Halo, 2, 3, 4, God of War, Red Dead 2, gta 5 for example had such high expectations and this game suppressed all of these. I feel like no matter if the game was great people would still be disappointed, because people were expecting this to be a masterpiece. So either way this game was kinda bound to fail. When you make a sequel to a book, movie, or a game. The thing only people care about is how well does this game carry on from the 1st one. This game does that poorly. With elements that no one cared about. I don’t think I have to talk about them, because at this point beyond knows about them. Overall the game suffers from the expectations, and how poorly the story expands from the first game.    … Expand

    The game aint better or worse than the last. The Story just continues and yes Joel´s death hit hard and it really took a while until I could continue playing but it really kept me playin. I loved every second hunting for his murderer and I hated every second playin her but she has a Story and I ended up not liking Abby but at least understanding her. No Improvement in Gameplay or anything new to mention otherwise (except the Graphics of course), but I didnt really expected that to happen anyway after the first game because what do you wanna change? Its all fine?

Es mejor que su precuela, superando en todos sus aspectos menos en narrativa. Una casi-obra maestra.
