    You may love the story or you may hate the story... but what the game shows with perfection is that we are humans and we screw up (even in a "normal" world, let alone after the apocalipse). The game itself is a masterpiece. Amazing graphics, gameplay etc, Don't let bullies and fake news spreaders (90% of the bad reviews here who hasn't even played the game but are against a progressiveYou may love the story or you may hate the story... but what the game shows with perfection is that we are humans and we screw up (even in a "normal" world, let alone after the apocalipse).     I absolutely love the last of us 2, it's my favorite game. The post apocalyptic world, the action, the brutality, the emotions, the unraveling story and character development it's all just perfect. If you like a movie type game, beautiful graphics and animations, with incredibly satisfying gameplay in a violent world... This is the game for you.

After playing this game, I know why so many people hate it, and they have every right to hate it. There's no way this game should be rated at a 9 or 10 as many review sites gave it.… Expand

    Fill all expectations and more. After finishing this game I am blown away. Clever storytelling, where you get an insight to the main and side characters stories and feelings in depth. It is brutal, scary and emotional. Full of varied action scenes and great visuals. Good animations. Strongly recommend this game.

    This is a game for adults. For people who lived tragedies, disappointments, who felt the pain in the guts. And for no reason - because this is the way life works. My respects for the bravery of the producers to go with such a story. They've known for sure that they will get angry a lot of "immature" fans - kind of super-hero type of movies (all is good and happy in the end)

    A very Intense game with some very emotional moments, some of the storylines will stay with you long after playing the game. Really enjoyed playing this. Worthy successor to the first game.

    It looks and feels better than part I. Especially on PS5, where it runs nicely at 60 fps in 4k.
    However, it’s irritating a bit with the amount of LGBTQ+ elements in the game. I find it not possible not to notice that it’s overwhelmingly lot in nowadays TV and game productions.

    The game went quite slowly and long to me. The story is simply long. When I thought that’s it, it appeared that there was still much left. Iis it good or bad?
    The most mixed feelings are of course about the choice of narration and control over opposite camps in the game. Decisions feel irrational and illogical. But we don’t have a choice here. I couldn’t put myself in their shoes.
    There is this feeling at the end of the game that creators threw themselves into a deep water and couldn’t fulfill the task according to expectations.
    All in all it’s still a great game and quite different to others, I believe.    … Expand

The writers of this game fundamentally misunderstand what makes a good story and instead create a take that is at best described as schizophrenic. Ellie and Joel return with the sequel to a phenomenal game that has been improved upon in nearly every aspect. The new gameplay mechanics feel fresh (modding weapons), the accessibility options are numerous and one of the best in the games industry currently, and it just feels GOOD. Ellie and Joel return with the sequel to a phenomenal game that has been improved upon in nearly every aspect. The new gameplay mechanics feel fresh (modding weapons), the accessibility options are numerous and one of the best in the games industry currently, and it just feels GOOD. I had a blast playing this game. The story can be very dark and does get a bit pretentious at times, but the game makes up for it with the stunning visuals, fun gameplay, compelling worldbuilding and characters, and highly interactive environments.

    Overall, this game is in one of my top ten favorites of all time. I highly recommend it, especially for fans of the first game.

    Interesting and convinving story, well balanced and integrated into the gameplay. As an additional positive element I was very surprised to find out that the Ophiocordyceps unilateralis exist in real life and it acts in the same way, infecting antis (There is a BBC documentary which explains the phenomenon). Gameplay: 10/10
    Dynamic, interesting and balanced gameplay able to create emotions and transpose the player into an action thriller movie protagonist. Graphics & sound: 10/10
    The Last of us part 2 is a beautiful game, delivering a gorgeous environment which manages to convince and contribue to the game's atmosphere. When it snows or it rains the entire environement shows, sounds and  feels like it. Additionally all the sounds greatly contribue to the atmosphere and the created tension. The background music, the cinematic music, even the music at the menu integrates well with the theme of the game. Game functiinality & bugs: 9/10:
    Only one bug encountered during swimming in a reservoir which threw me out of the textured walls. Value for money: 10/10
    The game will give you your money's worth even if you buy it full price, due to the interesting stroy, the convincing atmosphere and the awsome gameplay. Conclusion: 10/10
    Playing "The past of us part 2" is TIME WELL SPENT. It is a good game. Do not listen to the haters frustrated by the outcome of the story, just give it a try and you will not regret it! May your survival be long and your death be swift!    … Expand

    Great graphics, great gameplay. Story wasn’t the best, as a lot was lacking in the sense of some characters development. Bought this game upon release now never picked it up again after the first play through. Not even worth selling as it’s now going on eBay brand new and sealed for 7 quid. On the plus side it does make a good coaster

So obviously the main reason there are so many bad reviews about a weak plot is because of how quick    SPOILERS FOR PEOPLE THAT HAVENT PLAYED THE GAME

    -------------------------------------------------------------------------- First of all I want to say that of course there are people that genuinely disliked the game which is fine because what I'm about to say is just my opinion as well.

    So obviously the main reason there are so many bad reviews about a weak plot is because of how quick and brutally Joel got killed in TLOU part 2. I am a big TLOU fan and I cant lie, I was pretty sad and angry when I first realised he had died and wasn't coming back. That the character we've played as for so many hours, that we've traveled across the US with, was gone and you couldn't do anything about it. But I think that this characters death alone makes people angry enough to think it's a bad game, is the reason why the game is so good. You feel the same way as Ellie, you can relate to Ellie when walking down that brutal, bloody path of revenge because one of your favorite characters got killed. I don't know about you, but in the beginning of TLOU part 2 I was happily killing everyone that got in my way to avenge Joel, but towards the end, and after seeing abby's perspective, I understood her point of view more. Imagine being abby instead of Ellie in TLOU 1 and some crazy guy with hundreds of deaths to his name killed your father who was trying to discover a cure for the fungus killing most of humanity for the past 20 years. I definitely still hate her for doing what she did, but I understand her reasons which makes her a great antagonist. The truth is, if Ellie killed her, someone else would have probably killed Ellie, and then Dina or someone would kill that person, and then another person would kill Dina and so on. But Ellie, realizing killing abby wont bring Joel back, and already traumatized by all of the countless people shes killed, decided to not kill abby, which would've probably haunted her for the rest of her life. This game is very **** sad, devastating and heartbreaking, but that's just the way TLOU's dark, gritty and realistic world is. It's not a game about flowers and sunshine. Sure, there are lighthearted moments (which I love they make me very happy), but all of the characters are forced to a violent lifestyle, if not to defend themselves from hunters, it's to be able to live with the constant threat of infected. Joel dying is probably one of the saddest moments in gaming but it's also what makes TLOU part 2 TLOU part 2. It immediately sets the tone and you're like 'oh **** that really happened. It's about to get really dark and brutal.' Basically what I'm trying to say is that Joel's death and the entire story with Ellie, who was once a little girl always joking around but now murdering people whilst traumatizing herself because of how angry and broken she is, is the saddest thing ever, but it also makes it one of the best games ever. All these emotions. It's amazing what ND have done with the sequel. Everything you've done and experienced, all leading up to this dark, depressing ending. It really makes you feel something.

    And that's just talking about one aspect of the story jesus I could talk for days about this. But other than the amazing story, you cant deny that the graphics, first of all, are beautiful. I mean, next time you play the game, take a second to look at the environment. The details. It all looks so real. It continues to amaze me how far games have come.

    Next thing I want to talk about is the combat. It's so **** flawless and cool, a perfect mixture of brutality and swiftness. This really makes any encounter feel like a movie.

    And then of course there's the acting. I literally cant find the words to describe how amazing and realistic the acting is. All these amazing and talented actors are what bring the characters alive. It's what makes a game better then lots of movies.

    And finally the sound design. I'm sure you've already noticed this in TLOU part 1. Its beautiful. That's all I have to say.

    All of that put together by lots of talented developers, programmers, designers and the rest of the people that worked on the game creates this amazing, emotional and beautiful game. Don't let one moment ruin this beautiful cinematic piece of art.

    But of course that's just my opinion about The Last Of Us part II. (To all of the people sending hate to abby's voice actor and face model, how does it feel to be an immature full of **** disgusting unlikable person. Feel free to change.)    … Expand

    Some of the best writing not only in video games, but in media in general. Just like in film, the story is being told to us not made by us. There are no choices we as gamers get to make that will change the outcome. But, we are forced to participate in the events and so internalize them, making the emotional impacts much deeper. People looking for a power fantasy are playing the wrong game.

I am giving it 1 for graphic designs. I would have given it 0.5 but unfortunately that is not an option here. Y’all ought to go out and buy Death Stranding though.     The game keeps bringing up unnecessary flashbacks that nobody cares about which was so annoying, this game is an indirect slap in the face, how can a prequel differ so much from it’s sequel? They literally took out the most important character at the beginning of part II. What is wrong with the game developers, did they drink too much? I’ve literally overhyped 7 years for a game and then we get this! Naughty Dog completely wasted their time developing this pit-like game! A lot of fans are angry with Naughty dog for this crap! В первой части хоть был снег, тут он тоже есть (полчаса в начале), потом ты смотришь всю остальную игру на заброшенный город. Ну и сюжет про месть, чуть лучше, чем в любом Assassin's Creed, а в том же Rogue он даже лучше.     This game is everything I could've hoped for after the masterpiece that was The Last of Us 1 on PS3. A lot of people are hating on the game unfairly. The graphics as well as the story are amazing.

    I tried to just submit my score however it appears to not have saved - let's hold thumbs it works when combined with a short review.

    I enjoyed various parts of this game however the story was pathetic. It shows a genuine lack of respect to the wonderful original.     Le gameplay est d'un réalisme... s'en est frustrant de retourner sur d'autres jeux ensuite, techniquement c'est très propre, les ennemies réagissent à la mort de leur collègues en criant leur noms, par exemple. Les détails apportés dans le jeux sont nombreux et vraiment plaisants à découvrir.
    L'IA est incroyable, en mode "Réaliste", le jeux est d'une difficulté tellement l'IA est intelligente, ils vous contournent quand ils vous perdent de vue, si vous vous cachez sous une voiture, ils viendront regarder en dessous de celle-ci, etc...

    J'ai fais le jeux plusieurs fois, dont une fois en VF et une fois en VO ; les deux versions sont parfaites, la VF (me concernant) est impeccable, toutes les voix sans exception sont parfaitement doublées avec une synchronisation labiale parfaite et raccordée.

    Pour moi c'est un très bon jeux même si on peut noter une dernière heure de jeux inutile à mon sens, vers la fin ça traine un peu en longueur malgré un finish très convaincant et qui me donne des frissons à chaque fois que je termine le jeux.    … Expand

This will be a spoiler review for major plot points in the story. For a story driven game the story didn't do it for me. In order to hit the beats they were going for, they had to have characters acting uncharacteristically. For me, this was a dealbreaker. The game stops half way through and switches perspective making you play the last 3 days again as a different character with no connection to the previous 3 days gameplay. This truly kills the pacing of the game. Abby is somewhat glorified in this game too. We're told that her dad was a good person when, in TLOU1, he was willing to murder an unconscious child for the slim hope they could create a vaccine which, looking at the world created, would do very little to solve the problems of that world. The faction wars would still exist, clickers would still rip people's faces off and blotters would still be around. It would solve the issue of spores and bites but since gas masks already deal with the issue of spores, a vaccine wouldn't do much for the world. But Abby's dad saved a zebra, doesn't that make him a good person .... oh look Abby plays fetch with a dog that you are forced to kill, isn't Abby great and Ellie wrong here for killing this poor dog. The narrative of the game basically says that violence begets violence and the cycle of revenge never ends. Interesting premise, but Abby gets her revenge and gets to walk away. Ellie, on the other hand, loses Joel as he's murdered in front of her despite her pleas for his life. Loses Jesse, loses Dina and the baby and ends the game 2 fingers down and unable to play the guitar. Abby literally severed her last connection to Joel and Ellie let's her live. Even when she has her underwater, seconds away from drowning, she has a flashback of Joel and suddenly decides, hey I know I've travelled all the way to find you in different states twice now and even though you threatened to murder my pregnant girlfriend even after finding out she was pregnant and you killed my surrogate father and bit of 2 fingers and I've killed tens of people making my way to you I'll just let you go now. Given what Ellie has done and what has happened to her to get to this point, it's very jarring to just stop there, quite literally seconds away from completing her goal.

    This game suffers in the same way that a lot of movies these days suffer. They value theme over execution of the story. They have plot points they want to hit and they'll hit them no matter what the consequences are for characterisation. I think this story could have been done better. I'm sure of it. Thats the purpose of the writers. To make it fit in with how characters have been established and to make decisions seem logical. They didn't do it with this narrative.    … Expand

The person who wrote the story must be a sadist. If you like Joel and Ellie please do not play this game because they have managed to completely destroy those 2 characters. They completely ruined the glare the first game had. For me it is a sequel that should have never been. I have no comments on having to play half of the game with a character I hate just watching her face.     At first, I was angry after Joel died. I wasn’t even sure if I’d play through the whole game. I felt angry, shocked and…confused.

    I think it shows how Naughty Dog wrote an amazing script.

    Characters had interesting background stories. The diversity was great and Ellie and Abby were two strong females leads.

    My only issues is the redundancy in the gameplay. I felt I was doing the same thing over and over again. If there’s another chapter, I’d think about changing the gameplay or controls.

    To conclude, I recommend this game to anyone who likes a good story.    … Expand

Characters I all hated - Tommy's cool - relationships I could not connect with, decisions about plot, no improvements in core game play like stealth and enemy AI. Until this game I thought Naughty Dog could do no wrong in story telling. This game was full of awful characters you hate and the way this game was written forcing you to play as those characters, ugh. The ending was maybe the dumbest I have ever seen. I'll take a NES game from my childhood that ended with "THE END! GAME OVER" I am glad Ellie ended up alone. Jump button? It got me in trouble more than anything. I forced myself to slog through until the end and I wish the game was 10 hours shorter.

    If there were more variability in the game, at least the choice at the end, I would rate 7/10.

My favorite character in this series died in less than 1 hour of gameplay and after that i had to play as his murderer, that's where it was just too much and i stopped playing. The execution was as lazy as it can get. What changed after 7 years of waiting? Nothing. Gameplay is a copy and paste from the first one, the only thing thats changed are the graphics, which look amazing of course but thats about it. You play the whole game thinking you might be getting some revenge but no, the game just..ends. You do all that chasing & killing for no reason at all. It’s okay for Abby to get revenge but not for Ellie? The game just reeks of lazy writing & uses some manipulative ways to make you like Abbys character & justify what she does. The first game was one of the few games that I played for 6+ hours straight the first time I started it because everything made sense, the story felt real, the writing felt natural & not manipulative. You felt like you were part of that world & couldn’t wait to see whats next. TLOU2 on the other hand, I just wanted it to end so I can return the disc & buy something else instead. Dull, lazy, uninspiring & I wouldn’t recommend paying more than $20 for this useless cash grab. We all know that the only reason TLOU 2 sold millions is because of TLOU 1. Don’t get me wrong, I don’t have an issue with anyone dying. I have an issue with HOW they died. If it was executed properly & with some thought, it would make sense but it doesn’t.     o jogo é excelente!! não sei pq tem tantas criticas negativas, o gameplay é ótimo, gráficos perfeitos, musica nota 10, vários momentos de tensão em que não sabemos o que pode acontecer.... posso ser exceção, mas estou curtindo mais esse até mesmo do que o primeiro.

    That being said, nearly a year later, I played it again, this time on grounded+ difficulty. What. An. Experience. In hindsight I notice that whilst the enemies haven't improved since Part 1, the player has access to a whole new arsenal of weapons and abilities, and it gives the player a much greater advantage over at least the infected enemies. This can create a discord between the story and the player's experience as, unlike Part 1 where you played as an experienced, capable man, in Part 2 you are playing as a vulnerable teenager and being able to efficiently despatch enemies with ease makes it difficult to relate to the vulnerability that the game's story is portraying. Playing on grounded+ definitely repaired this.
    After playing Part 2 on the hardest difficulty, I can confidently say I experienced the absolute roller-coaster of emotions that I expected after playing Part 1 and I really felt immersed in the story. What a technical, emotional, masterpiece. Can't wait for Part 3!!!    … Expand

The story is powerful, has surprises, and it's presented extremely well. Take people's complaints with the story with a big grain of salt--they just didn't like one of the surprises, have a problem with gay people, and/or don't like playing as a femaleIt's not perfect, but I enjoyed the game, and I liked it more than the first game. After playing it, I see why it won so many awards. The story is powerful, has surprises, and it's presented extremely well. Take people's complaints with the story with a big grain of salt--they just didn't like one of the surprises, have a problem with gay people, and/or don't like playing as a female character. The gameplay and combat are fun, and the graphics and animations are solid, but some parts of the game are a little slow, which is why I took off a point. I am with the party that heavily disliked the direction and execution the writers decided on for TLOU2 at the start of the game (I did spoil myself). However, as I played through the game there were points where we could get a sense of what the writers wanted to achieve by creating a dual narrative with moral ambiguities between Ellie and Abby, such that in certain perspectives you can see their actions as justified - righteous even. However, their execution on this matter was criminally poor.

    Before I delve deeper into the story and characters I do want to say that the gameplay, sound design, and graphics were fantastic. Each melee attack had its distinctive weight depending on the make-shift weapon used, the enemy AI was intelligent and fair and the level design as a whole was done well. The ambience of each environment was distinctive and the infected noise and enemy callouts were pivotal in allowing a 3-D in one's mind. The sharpness of the textures, quality of shadows, each movement of the character models were slick and smooth. Nothing was revolutionary in these departments per se but their quality was of the highest level that one would expect for a triple AAA game, no less a Naughty Dog title.

    The most controversial part of TLOU2 was the brutal death of Joel very early on in the game and this is where all of the inconsistencies and perplexities stemmed from. First off, it feels weird that Abby would seek her revenge on Joel the moment he and his brother saved her from the infected, even considering the hatred she has for him for killing her father about 5 years prior.
    But then why would she brutally beat Joel? From the gameplay we play as Abby later on she doesn't feel like a person that would have so much pent-up rage. Moreover, why keep Ellie and Tommy alive? Abby and Co. can't seriously believe that those two wouldn't want to get their own revenge, especially for how brutally Joel was killed. I reiterate the fact that Joel was brutally killed because none of us wanted Joel to die that way, we wanted a heroic death if anything (on a side note the brutality of Joel's does set a good tone for the type of gore we would expect later on). However, what some of us might have forgotten or neglected to realise, that the game does explore through Ellie and Abby is that Joel's action at the end of TLOU was monstrous. He effectively sacrificed the lives of many for his surrogate daughter. This is a point that the game wants us to have when balancing the moral ambiguities between Ellie and Abby, but again throughout the game, we get introduced to groups of people like the Seraphites and slave traders, undermining Joel's decision.
    So then what, surely it would be better to save what loved ones you have in a world where only a small proportion of the people left are actually worth saving.

    I could go on but this contentious point on Joel's death was what I wanted to focus on. Overall, TLOU2 had great potential, I applaud the writers at least for their gall to create something like this but unfortunately, they miserably missed their mark.    … Expand

    The Last of Us Part II is the high point of the PlayStation 4. The plot is controversial, but the game is the incredibly addictive adventure of Ellie, from which it is impossible to pull away from the opening and to the very end.

    Not everyone is going to enjoy the motives of The Last of Us Part II. But if you try and manage to accept the subliminal and not so subtle messages as a fact that the world has gone awry and that people have the need to have somewhere or someone to belong to as their own way out, then... You will witness the boundaries of gaming expand. You will witness a true masterpiece.
