If you played and loved the first game and you are a masochist that like to see your beloved character dies in the most disrespectful way possible, you will like this game. Also, there is nothing new in the combat system and crafting in the game. The only thing they did well is the graphics.

After playing though the first half or so of the game, I would like to honestly say that the critical score is undeserved. The Last of Us Part II is not without flaws, but all in all, it is also undeserving of the current user score. Most scores need to be scrubbed without a doubt. That being said, I can see the game for what it is. Is it a masterpiece? Far from it. Is it a blast to play? After playing though the first half or so of the game, I would like to honestly say that the critical score is undeserved. The Last of Us Part II is not without flaws, but all in all, it is also undeserving of the current user score. Most scores need to be scrubbed without a doubt. That being said, I can see the game for what it is. Is it a masterpiece? Far from it. Is it a blast to play? Depends on your definition. Does it deserve the hate from the fan base? Perhaps somewhat, but certainly not to the degree it’s been given.

The gameplay is an enormous improvement from the previous game. Stealth mechanics are far better: being able to craft silencers for the handgun is useful, hiding in tall grass to get the drop on enemy guards is exhilarating, and finally being able to craft arrows for the bow makes that weapon far more invaluable for stealth encounters. The crafting system is also greatly improved. Aside from the usual supplies – such as first aid kits, Molotovs, and bombs – arrows can now be crafted, silencers for the handgun, and improving your melee weapons restores them to full durability.

Skills now are greatly expanded, and training manuals must be found in order to expand your skill tree. Whereas previously training manuals simply improved durability of shiva and bombs and healing, now they unlock new skill trees to improve. Supplements found in the world still function the same, but now you have greater variety for how to build your character to better suit your playing style. Weapon upgrades have been simplified and improved: instead of just increasing ammo capacity or power in increments, each upgrade improves a single aspect of the weapon. An example being ammo capacity of the handgun: instead of increasing ammo capacity by 1 round over 3 or 4 upgrades, now it is a single upgrade of 4 rounds. Ammo reserves have been scaled back, but enemies now drop ammo more frequently.

Combat has been greatly expanded. You can dodge enemy attacks, greatly increasing survivability and combat prowess. Stealth does have greater emphasis in the game, but is not necessary. However it is strongly recommended since certain areas in the game have numerous enemies and can easily overwhelm you. Dogs are also great at tracking you, so it is also recommended to give them priority over other enemies in an area that has them.

Now we get to the most fun part to review: the story. ***DISCLAIMER: this review was written about more than halfway through the campaign, so all opinions here on out are subjective, and should be not taken as an endorsement for nor as bias against TLOU2. This is a spoiler-free review.***

The story begins 5 years after the events of the previous game. Ellie is older and more wise (and perhaps more jaded) in the ways of the world, and has been living in Jackson with a growing population. She’s made fast friends with a few people – namely on-again-off-again couple Dina and Jesse – and has been living her life the best way she can. However, the past finally catches up with her and Joel, and tragedy strikes in the most horrific way, which sets her off down a very dark path.

The game also introduces Abby, a former Firefly and current member of the well-armed-and-trained Washington Liberation Front, or WLF. She’s had her fair share of tragedy, and by the time of the main story of TLOU2, she’s become a ruthless soldier harbouring a hateful grudge against the man who had killed her father. She serves as a foil to Ellie, and the story of TLOU2 details the similarities and stark contrasts of both young women, both in terms of personalities and motivations for why they did what they did.

NOTE: I already knew what the storyline of TLOU2 was and what the main plot points were, so I already knew what to expect. I went into this game with an open mind, knowing what I knew, but have changed my initial opinion of the game since playing it as far as I have. I intend on finishing the game, and so far I can say that the game does not deserve either score it has received from both critics and users. As I stated, this is not an endorsement for nor bias against the game, Naughty Dog, or Sony Interactive. It is just my honest opinion, because people can and should form their own opinions.

Playing abby was also very fun since we never really see the villains side of the story on a game and seeing her pov made the game different. This is a beautifully-crafted bad game. I really, really wanted to like it; especially after the disgusting behaviour from some fans with their anti-lgbt sentiments and death threats. Words failed me and still do.

Those things alone make me feel bad to express that I didn't like the game. Naughty Dog is an amazing studio and I'm sad they saw such an ugly display.

But it remains; I still didn't like the game. I did somewhat enjoy the first twenty hours - it was a bit tedious but it wasn't terrible. I personally had no gripes with the story choices most of the way in. I was expecting things to pick up.

They didn't... and things took an odd direction; still, I brushed aside the frustration, stayed open to the story-telling choices and reluctantly pushed through. By the end it felt like TLoU:P2 had essentially imploded in on itself. And it felt like a waste of time. The only thing I felt was disappointment.

I read some column pieces from critics and the various perspectives on how it ended. Though none of it changed my mind; I still feel like I played a version of TLoU:P2 from a bad alternate reality. Even after I'd 'taken a few steps back'.

For the most part I'm chalking this down to 2020. Another major title dropped this year and that too left me feeling similar: Final Fantasy 7 Remake - which somehow oddly escaped the wrath of its fans... and instead received near-universal praise.

I do applaud the efforts to represent LGBT characters; that's one thing I am VERY in favour of - and my frustrations are far removed from it. In fact, given the response from fans I hope NaughtyDog turn up the heat in this area next time. Maybe try man-on-man - if it ruffles feathers and takes the time to be engaging, I'm game.

However, with how things are with the storyline thus far I think they should do away with Ellie entirely; for me, things are too trodden in the wrong direction. And I'm wondering if NaughtyDog's "golden era" is coming to an end. I'd rather take a break and get a fresh perspective somewhere else in the same universe after the story of Part 2. After the grim events of this game, who knows; maybe Ellie can become an antagonist? Just be sure to take some "don't do this" notes from The Walking Dead.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The relationship between Joel and Ellie in Part 2 is more complicated, more interesting and more moving than the one they had in the 1st game. There! I said it! The fact that his death was so abrupt and unceremonious makes the flashback scenes and the fact that Ellie didnt get to forgive him all the more tragic. Abby is a great character that I liked and rooted for not because her killing Joel is justified by the fact that he killed her father but because playing the game you get to experience her arc from being a traumatized ruthless killer with tribalistic ethics to becoming a friend and a mother figure to a kid who she thought was the enemy. She was lost in the darkness and she searched for the light(like the Firefly motto goes), the light her dad represented, the light he found with Lev. To the people who hate the ending because Ellie doesnt kill Abby: Are you seriously saying that all the other killings were pointless because she didnt kill Abby? The theme of the story was about learning to let go and stop holding on to hate. The point of it all was not "Good guy kill bad guy" but for Ellie to finally let go of the hate that destroyed all of these lives, the hate Abby also had for Joel and that ultimately lead to the death of all her friends. Hate, eve if its justifiable, will only destroy you and turn you into the monster you were fighting against. The best thing you can do is to let go and forgive even the most unforgivable acts. Just think about how much better things would be if Ellie hadnt walked down that path of vengeance. Think how better things would be if she had forgiven Joel earlier. She was too late on forgiving Joel but not Abby. If she had killed her she would be forever lost in the darkness and there would be no turning back. With that last act of forgiveness she just barely saved herself. By the end of the story Ellie knew the cost of resisting forgiveness. By learning to forgive Abby she finally forgave Joel. Even if it was too late its was nice knowing that the last time they spoke to each other she gave him hope that one day she would finally learn to forgive him. That day tragically never came for him but he died hoping and in the bleak world of The Last of Us you take what you can get. Expand

Then again the game makes you hate it and generates a feeling of displeasure to the point of wanting to finish it quickly. More precisely I mean the point where Ellie is about to die and the plot forces you to play with abby, the counterpart and the villain that up to that moment you can only hate. But then, like all great works ... more precisely remembering Batman dark knight, a work that you enjoy so much that you are afraid it will end and on several occasions when you are willing to let that end come ... the plot surprises you and you stretch the story. Well friends, this work made me remember that beautiful feeling. It also gives you mixed feelings, since it makes you fond of that villain in the first instance and at a distance makes you think that according to the point of view one can be a villain or hero. Playing the same story from two points of view, in this case antagonistic, is a very good resource. The same resource that in its time used Resident Evil 2 that made it so special. As for the conclusion of the story ... one with so many laps and so much time spent with both protagonists ... I would have liked a more pacifist, more conciliatory ending ... but after all, it is at the level of what one I hoped ... it didn't happen ... and it didn't. In short it is worth it and you will delight from start to finish ... one last recommendation ... try to have an open mind and not take anything personal. Regards Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This game spits in the face of a fan base who waited years for the next installment in what was an epic story. The game's story line is as weak as it is unoriginal, the characters are predictable and underdeveloped, the fact that the studio has revenge as the motive for both playable characters is pathetic at best. In my opinion the only way to save this franchise is a prequel game that covers the lives of Joel and Tommy, one that explains their falling out, and even then I would be shocked if Naughty Dog doesn't screw the pooch. The story is garbage, I would’ve given it a higher rating for the great graphics but the story just **** on everything else. Very disappointed that I have spent a **** ton of time playing this just so I could get an awful ending.

Absolutely stunning sequel that respects its predecessor and builds on it in ways that were hitherto unprecedented. The refined gameplay is anxiety-inducing, the story is much more emotionally complex than the first part, and the game looks incredible. This has probably been the most profound video game experience of my 20+ years of gaming.

First off the game looks absolutely amazing. If all you care about is looks this game will not disappoint.

The story is just OK as a stand alone game, but taking into account the first game the story falls flat as a sequel. The main cast is no longer likable and you will more then likely hate them by the end. The end is just terrible.

The fist game had its faults but so much could be overlooked due to the lovable cast. This one is brutal and does not have that in it.

We also get sequel baited? This game as a standalone game would be worth a buy, however it is not. ND made this a sequel to one of the most beloved new IP's ever. More was expected, and while I can say they took risks, one would have to say they failed.

    Pros:
    -Graphics
-Combat ; some hate it but I still enjoyed it very much, if you wanted an evolution you did not get it but you do not need to make changes for changes sake it fits the world very well.
    -Crafting system
    -Getting to play Ellie again
    -Voice actors are top notch
    Cons:
-New characters are not very likable, having to play someone who I hate after 2 hours of game play I did not find fun. Should of led with the second half where we learn about the history before you had the event I am talking about. Having me hate them and trying to get me to like them is so much harder then having us learn and fall in love with them first. It would of made the player think so much more about the events rather then **** this person" that I think most will feel.
-pacing is everywhere, to many switches
-way to long, the game could of been 12~15 hours just like TLoU 1
-Story is just not very good once you look at the first game.
-So many "Deus ex Machina moments": the number of times someone should of died and got out of it UGH. Please keep this to just a few times people!

This game is all about story. And it mostly fails at it. If this game had not been a sequel I could likely place it at a 7/10 Maybe an 8 even. But its not, the game does not respect the first game at all. It be like if Iron man 2 killed Tony off in the first 15 minutes then had Pepper go on a revenge story, become a total loser, and follow it up with the murderer becoming a "hero" or likable person at least.

If you want to get into the last of us IP start with The Last of Us 2. And follow it up with the prequel (the original Last of Us) You probably will enjoy the second and fall in love with the first.

So many BS reviews here, both positive and negative spinning their own agendas or narratives. Here is my take on the game itself from someone who has bought, played and finished both Last of Us titles.

I absolutely loved the first Last of Us, the store hit home for me, and I enjoyed the gameplay, environments, graphics and of course the characters Joel and Ellie. Was it a 10, no but near enough for ME. There is always issues like having to play it on a **** console for one, **** hardware that impacts frames and forces you to use a control system that makes aiming feel like you're trying to target a moving object with a fishing rod. But that aside it was amazing.

How do I feel about The Last of Us 2? It is basically the same as the first one, graphics and environments are great, gameplay is almost unchanged. The characters..... well half the game is about characters we dont know, and the other half the characters we love but they are different. Now that is somewhat understandable as their experiences have changed them as they would a real person and you learn why throughout the game. I enjoyed the story telling, even if I did not like the new characters, I didn't hate them but I just had no connection. The flashbacks for Joel and Ellie were probably the best parts. Still hated playing it on console, the frame drops and ****ty controller is still there and frustrating in those times where quick reactions would have helped.

Overall this is not a ZERO and its definitely not a TEN, dont know what these critics are smoking, need to have a long hard look at their integrity. Is it a GREAT game, no, but its enjoyable and Im glad I played it.

    Here is what i think:
I Think that the game is about Joel & Ellie , but for most of the game it's about joel, so why do you kill the main guy ?
    1. shock effect ? really ? apocalyptic/zombie movies did it 1000 times already
    2. they made Joel look "idiotic" by going to strangers and telling them his name ....
That is a disrespect to the intelect of Joel, the guy was in a cruel world for a long time to know how to survive. He has the instinct of survival.
    3. To think that someone would prefer to sacrifice their daughter to save humanity ,should not be a father.
so that on itself should not be an argument because why the **** would Ellie want to die.
Like WTF ,she was Angry on joel for saving her life and lying just to make her feel better ?
    4. About Dina i feel like we don't really get allot of time to be "connected" to her, we don't see enough cutscenes with both Ellie and Dina.
and yea sure i am your girlfriend , i will join you on a deadly revenge journey for no reason.

    5. Dina is pregnant ??how? WHEN? why? unnecessary thing to add to story...just a reason to put dina aside and let ellie go all alone...
    6. Le'ts also talk about how they killed pretty much all the characters in the game and we didn't get to connect to them.
    7. two sex scenes and two pregnant woman
    8. No option for making choices (i did not kill the doctor in the first game)
The only thing that i agree with is that
Life Doesn’t Always Have A Happy Ending
Everybody are at risk. That is why the game took a path no one likes and not allot of games or movies do it.
By the way i should also say that the game is not very good for your health , you get depression , anxiety .
That can cause allot of heart problems , mental problems and shock.
ALL THAT JUST TO MAKE THE LAST OF US PART 3 ?

How the story could have been?
    1.Show Abby as Ellie's mom
    or
2,Kill Dina or Jessie or Tommy and make ellie and joel kill the abby (joel dies in the way)
    or
3.A huge group makes terror in jackson and now they on the run...
    or
4.Make a story about other people in the world...

At first, I was not very interested in playing The Last of Us 2 because I knew that I would not overcome the first part, after listening to so many rumors I decided to embark on the trip, to be very unsatisfied at the end. I had a feeling similar to that of the end of GOT, from my point of view the story is not the strength of the game, I was shocked that after playing with the protagonist, the game forces you to play with the antagonist, the development of the game is Forced to the point that the game becomes too long and boring, I expected a more satisfying ending after 40 hours invested but that is not the case with TLOU2. Joel's death seemed poorly executed, mainly because you only play a few minutes with him, that the whole game is an endless quest for revenge I consider it very poor and mediocre from a creative point of view. The positive is that I have to praise the technical part of the game, the level designs are fantastic, the setting, the music, you definitely feel immersed in that universe. The graphics are from another generation, exploration was my favorite part of the game and I have enjoyed the game, especially the fighting. In conclusion, TLOU2 does not go beyond the first part and leaves a lot to be desired when it comes to the story and the characters, but it is not a bad game either. Final verdict: Average.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Lets put this simply, this game is very good but in my opinion definitely not a masterpiece. Firstly ill say if you asked me to rate the game after my first twelve hours (which was playing as Ellie) i would've given it a 10/10, honestly the Joel death was devastating but i understood why they decided to go through with this narrative and it gave me such a will to go on to get revenge for him which therefore made me hungry to see how this story would unfold and obviously at this point i was desperate to kill Abby.

So going through the first part with Ellie and Dina was great in my opinion, the game looked incredible and i loved the more open aspect of the game and how there are things you can miss if you dont search everything which was something i fell victim to missing Ellie sing take on me to Dina. Anyway to make a long story short i loved every moment of the story with Ellie and Dina together in Seattle. Keeping with Ellie i also liked Jesse and found their dialogue together to be interesting and enjoyable to listen to. Also the fact that the whole Ellie section included flashbacks was great for me, so yes Joel was killed yet we got to see some great moments between them especially the museum which was my personal favorite part of the game.

Anyway going on to the revenge part of the story for Ellie, i rather enjoyed going through it seeing how much it effects her killing all these people. But obviously the cost of revenge is also shown which obviously leads to the death of Jesse which was quite a shocking moment for me to see happen but it made sense. Anyway now onto the part that stopped this game being one of the greats for me.

So obviously now we go on to Abby and honestly ill straight up say i was devastated after finding out i was playing 10 hours of her to be honest but i thought 'oh you know maybe ill grow on her' but no not at all. Like i said earlier i was fine with Joel's death but i was definitely not fine with controlling his killer, obviously i get why they did it to understand her reasoning but i just couldn't get into her character and honestly when characters like Mel, Owen and Manny died i just didnt feel bad as i felt no connection to them, however ill quickly said i was a fan of both Lev and Yara and thought they were good additions, were definitely a good point of Abby's section and did really will them on. But overall Abby's section was only a 6/10 for me

Anyway ill quickly talk about the ending, to be honest i personally didn't feel satisfied as i felt emptiness really as i just really wanted to see Ellie get her revenge due to my personal connection to Joel, however i did understand why what happened, happened and can say despite not personally feeling happy i get why the ending was what it was.

    Overall pros:
. Ellie's section of the game- overall story including relationships with characters and flashbacks.
    . Look of the game
    . Attention to detail
    . Great soundtrack
    . Brilliant acting by all
    . Satisfaction of combat
. Larger areas to look around
    . Amazing design (Characters, infected)
. Extra dialogue (enemies communications, reacting to deaths)
    Cons:
    . Abby's story
    . Premature deaths
    . Pacing at points
    . Not great CPU
    . Sometimes overly coincidental
. Poor character choices (Ellie leaving map for Abby for example)

Compared to other Naughty dog games i would put this behind Uncharted 2,4 and the Last of us part 1

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. When I first finished TLOUP2 I was mad, angry, disappointed and frustrated. After the credits rolled I was thinking “what a let down” until I decided to try and replay the game and see things differently. After a second play through I can say that this game is a masterpiece of storytelling. Yes **** dies rather quickly. I was angry, I hated Abby so very much. but that is exactly what the game is trying to make you feel. Anger, resentment, hate, & revengefulness. You are SUPPOSED to hate Abby, You are SUPPOSED to feel these emotions in full force. People have failed to see exactly what Naughty Dog was going for. Of course we wanted Ellie to get revenge. We all wanted Abby dead. But unfortunately real life doesn’t always work in your favour, you don’t always get what you want. The game made me feel all of these emotions including happiness, sorrow, resent, hate, love, revenge, & forgiveness. No game has EVER made me feel all of these emotions through 1 play through let alone 2. However, I think if the game went back and forth between Abby & Ellie’s story as apposed to 3 days as Ellie then 3 as Abby. It would’ve made each death more impactful making the player feel EVEN worse for the actions they committed while on this ultimately failed revenge path. Ellie ends up forgiving Abby. Revenge is not what the story is about.... Forgiveness is what The Last Of Us Part II is truly about. It will go down as by far one of THEE greatest gaming expirences you will ever witness from a story standpoint. The gameplay is just as fun as it was in the first game. With the mechanics being polished and shining brighter then they ever have before. It is even further enhanced by the drop dead gorgeous graphics. Every scene is jaw dropping. Especially on a PS4 pro with a 4k display. Action is brought to brutally realistic detail with every weapon fired and every slice of Ellie’s switchblade. You felt every punch, slice, and every bullet. If you go into TLOUP2 with an open mind and realizing you may not get what you think/want then this game is absolutely worth every minute and dime you spend on it. 9.5/10 Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. My first playthrough of TLOU2, I would have given this game a 6/10, but just finishing my second playthrough I give the rating above, an 8/10.

First of all, the graphics, acting, and gameplay is an amazing part of this game. Some points I just stared at the beauty of the graphics that this game offers. It makes it feel so real and jaw-dropping. I hope they remaster this game for the PS5.

Naughty Dogs displays very strong actions to kill off Joel in the first 2 hours. As a lover of the first game, I was in shock to see the protagonist die like that, but I realized Joel's actions in the first game, had consequences. The next about 10ish hours, we play as Ellie going through Seattle to revenge Joel's death, and when it reaches its climax, we replay the days in Seattle but through Abby, who killed Joel to revenge her father's death by Joel. Mad that we have to play as her, I continued, to see where Naughty Dog is trying to do with this approach. Throughout playing as Abby, they didn't develop the story surrounding Abby and her friends, the WLF, the Scars, etc. The pacing could have been better and maybe that could be a DLC in the future. In the end, Ellie doesn't kill her, spares her life, even though Ellie travels hundreds of miles from Jackson to Santa Barbara which confuses me so much. But in the end, explains a very powerful message that only my second playthrough made me realize.

Ellie finally tries to move on from this whole revenge thing and takes in what it caused when she wanted her revenge. Dina and JJ are gone somewhere, Jesse died, relationship with Tommy, her mental state and more. Everyone wanted a good ending for Ellie, but to take in all the stuff we have done in the TLOU2, killing hundreds of people, will not bring Joel back. So at least Ellie is ready to move on and leaving everyone behind in the past (Why she left Joel's guitar).

In the end, this is not a terrible game, but not a 10/10 game. Definitely could have been a masterpiece game but has shown a good message. I hope Naughty Dog creates a part 3 in the future, I can't see an end to this series yet, Ellie's story must continue!

Expand

It's a fine game. The graphics, animations, sounds are great. The story and gameplay are not so much. It varies too much and the characters motives don't make sense. It's okay to not think this game is a masterpiece, and to have problems with some aspects of the story, but anyone raving about how it's a disgrace to the characters and the world of the first game etc can honestly just f*** right off. If they'd understood the message and themes of the first game, then they would realise that TLOU II shows the consequences of decisions made by character's in the first game, absolutely true to the world ND created. To claim otherwise is just wrong.

For me, this game is a 10, but it took me a while to come to that conclusion. I had to take a week away from video games after I finished the story. Not intentionally, but I just didn't have the heart to play anything else. This game was extremely difficult to play at times. But it's also the most fully formed and outrageously effective attempt at an immersive, narrative-driven video game that I've ever seen. Its absolutely outstanding.

After the first couple of hours I was so invested in what was happening, why it was happening and where the story would go that I just sort of melted into the world and the story that ND are telling. It's hard to discuss any story and/or character moments without going into spoilers, but sufficed to say it's Naughty Dog's biggest and most ambitious game yet. It's probably also the most challenging game I've ever played.

There are more than a few moments where I DID NOT want any part of what was happening on screen, and that's because this game does not shy away from showing you some really **** up **** Like, truly haunting, harrowing **** Animal lovers in particular beware. I'm the sort of guy that cries anytime a dog gets hurt or dies in a movie. **** I cry whenever dogs are happy, like those videos where their owner returns from overseas and they can't handle their excitement and joy. There there are moments where I felt sick with guilt while playing through Ellie's story.

The violence is never gratuitous however, at least not in my opinion. It's raw and graphic and feels extremely real, but ultimately this game is a discussion about violence, obsession, and about revenge. It asks you as the player to think about how far you would go for revenge? How far is too far? Is revenge justified when it's born out of love for someone, to want to get payback for them? It shows the fallout of actions made when people let violence and anger envelop them. And it shows them in graphic detail. But it's also a story about love, grief, acceptance, and change. I genuinely believe it to be a much deeper story than some give it credit for. Again, tough to say more without spoilers. I'll leave it by saying that ND did the impossible with regard to the story they chose to tell. And I am so thankful that they did.

Passed the game with pleasure! The gameplay, graphics and sound are at the highest level.. But! The plot twists were very disappointing and the emphasis was on non-traditional relationships.. In General, only 9 points, apparently the game of the year will still be Ghost of Tsushima

To put it simple, while the concept was promising, it was poorly executed. Certain decisions that characters made didn't seem realistic or natural especially in comparison to the previous game. Certain decisions that characters made didn't seem realistic or natural especially in comparison to the previous game. The design of the game tries so hard to make you feel certain things or force you to see different points of view ultimately fails which is what turns most gamers away. The chemistry and bond between certain characters feels flat, awkward and unnatural again. Despite the things that went wrong in terms of the narrative, there's a lot of things the game does right that would wouldn't expect from other than Naughty Dog; graphics are stunning, many of my friends who are hardcore pc gamers say that this is one of the most beautiful looking games they've seen. AI is massively improved from the first. Level design is amazing. Sound effects and music is perfect. Combat has evolved massively from the first although can feel repetitive at times. While still a linear experience, areas are much broader and there's so much to see and explore that it can feel overwhelming at times. Like I said the game does a lot of things right as Naughty Dog typically are good at making games, however the narrative and pacing of the game really let it down particular with its anticlimax ending where it could of easily made up for past mistakes. It would be unfair to the devs who worked hard on this for so long and as I said putting the story aside this game is amazing but unfortunately falls short of that so therefore a 7/10 (average) is a perfectly fair score. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. My Review:

Naughty Dog's mistake was to believe that people would be able to understand the complex world and mind of the characters and their changes during the years between TLOU1 and TLOU2.

Joel's death was composed perfectly, and has more deph to it then people were actually able to see. Joel lived for 20 years of his life in a quarantine zone as a smuggler, fighting the military, killing a lot of people and doing whatever it took to survive. But in TLOU2, Joel had his life completely changed. He was living in a city where people from all around would go throught it to trade, sleep for a feel days, and just go away. Joel was relearning how to live, relearning how to interact with people, and his only worries were Ellie's and the community's survival. Joel was a changed man! He "trusted" Abby because he had no other place to go and was used to finding travelers around the area. Also, it was not the first time Joel chose to trust someone, as he had trusted on Henry, not once, but TWICE in the first game + Henry even betrayed him, but Joel could forgive him as shown in the tower scene where they were having a very friendly chat and laughing. (OF course Joel wanted to know if Henry was right about the fireflies, but Joel had a place to go in his mind, and he choose to follow Henry instead of going afer Tommy, proving that even dough he was harsh, he could still trust people).
So in conclusion to this topic, Joel could not have know what he was getting into, and even if he saw something coming, he didnt have other choice + He had met a lot of traveleres that were friendly, so Abby's suggestion did not sound bad to him, especially in the situation they were. Joel's death showed he was a human being that can sometimes trust the wrong people and die. Its just like he told Ellie in the first game: "We are just lucky, and luck runs out".

    About the ending:
TLOU2's ending was close to perfect.
I read a critic by Cultured Vultures that had me disapointed, because I couldnt imagine how a specialized crew could be so blind to see all the game's journey and how the conclusion proved a enormous point, that is the main critic of the game (its important to say that I think revenge was the main critic, but the game makes a point about everything bad in the actual world right now, so its just my point of view about what is the main critic. It could be about something else in the actual director's plans)

    Cultured Vultures on TLOU2:
In trying to subvert expectations, The Last of Us Part II discards the best aspects of its predecessor to provide a rote revenge tale that is ill-considered, ending on a note that makes everything — all the violence, all the loss, all the struggle — feel utterly, hopelessly pointless.

Dear Cultured Vultures, the "pointlessness" of the revenge was exactly the sensation that the game needed to provide to show that revenge was not the best solution to anyone's problems, but you guys were too stupid to see.

Ellie and Abby lost everything during this journey of revenge. Abby had lost the fireflies and her dad, so she chaced Joel and killed him , but her revenge directly impacted someone that had no reasons to go after her before, and started a cycle of revenge that could have been avoided if she moved on. So Ellie goes after Abby, finds and kills every last one of them except for who she actually wanted to kill, and its forced to give up, because otherwise, she would get more people that she cared about killed. And the only reason that Ellie actually survived the third day, was because Abby showed herself as a good person that was blinded by revenge, and realized that she started this, so she tried to stop it herself by sparing both Dina and Ellie.
But Ellie had not learned her lesson and in her mind, her comfort would come from killing Abby, when it actually would only come if she could forgive Joel and herself, and by doing so, accepting his death like of those she loved that had died before. So in conclusion, Ellie was not ready to accept what she loss until she had lost so much that the only thing left was her humanity and the memory of Joel, so she spared Abby at the final scene, because in that moment where she nearly killed Anny, the thing that came through her mind was not what Abby had done, but what she could not do, which was forgive Joel sooner and learn how to love him again, and that was Ellie's biggest regret and the main cause of pain + She even lost her fingers 3 and 4, making her not able to play guitar, which was the thing that most resembled her of Joel's goodness and love.

Even if u didnt like the story , giving this art work of a game a "0,1,2,3" is unexcusable!
4.4 user average just shows that theres a lot of stupid people with internet, and that people arent ready for games as complex and deep.

The Last Of Us Part 2 is the best narrative I have experienced in all my life as a gamer.
Thank you Naughty Dog for this piece of pure art.

The pacing of the game was not very good either, felt very stagnant at times, like the game just stopped progressing. The ending was very depressing and disappointing as well. The gameplay could have been better. Felt like no matter what I did to be stealthy I would be forced into a situation of being seen or would be seen while hiding. So stealth was not very good which I personally enjoy the most in games like this. Overall probably won't go back and play again, at least not until a long time has passed and I am looking for a game to just fill my time between new releases.

If you are a player that rushes trough the game and doesnt allow himself Into the last of us tipical

The game has some pacing issues created by the dificulty of talking such a huge and complex story, it has a abrupt Change between part 1 and part 2 of the game, and it stops you from enjoying part 2 if you were not able to calmly and openmindedlly play the first part.

To preface my opinion, I thankfully was not spoiled by any leaks before playing this game. I also didn't read any reviews beforehand, and the last thing I viewed showing anything within this game was the gameplay trailer from E3 2018. I went out of my way to avoid spoilers, even down to any new gameplay mechanics or features, so that I could play it with as clean a slate as possible.

I beat the game after a week of it being out, took a break from it, and am now starting another playthrough to go for the platinum. During my first playthrough, I went from thinking this might be one of the best games I've played in the last few years to being on the fence on the last half. The main reason for that is I felt like it could've been a tad shorter, I remember pushing through areas on the latter half just wanting to know what was going to happen. I loved the gameplay loop, and I felt like it expanded on the original in many ways gameplay-wise. But while I started playing the game using stealth and working to figure out the best approach to each encounter, I eventually began just blasting my way through each area to get to the next story beat near the end. This is probably the main reason why I'm not giving it higher than an 8. I felt like I couldn't wait for it to be done, not because I hated it, but just because I was ready for it to be over after about 20-25 hrs in (my playthrough lasted 29 hrs). I felt like I'd had my fill at the point, and had to hold myself back from googling "how far am i in last of us 2?".

I actually enjoyed the story very much, contrary to about half of all who seemed to play it. But even without seeing any spoilers, I definitely understood early on how many people probably wouldn't enjoy it. It takes chances with the story and characters that while some I didn't agree with at the time (and some I still don't) I was still enjoying the surprises and risks it was trying to take and appreciated it. Even though many people already know what happens without having even played it, I still don't want to take that experience away from anyone else so I won't get into details obviously. But I will say that the parts of the story and scenes that I enjoyed the most were when I felt like they were honoring the original and tying things together that I didn't expect. In many people's eyes, including partly in mine, it didn't succeed completely in this. But I was a fan of the original's entire story and especially the ending, and I felt like Part 2 mostly succeeded in continuing this saga (even though I wasn't completely onboard with some of the new characters and other things).

This is a game that I feel like many people will finish like I did, just wanting it to be over. Like I said, for me it was because I felt like it was a bit too long. Some people will hate having played it because of their disagreements with the story, and I've also heard people having trouble getting through it because of the excessive violence (which isn't is a spoiler to say that there is PLENTY of violence). But I find that the more I look back on the game, the more I'm appreciating it, despite the parts that I didn't enjoy 100%. I understand what they were trying to do, and it's close to what I originally thought about the original when I first played it: this is a series that doesn't demand to be enjoyed, but does demand to be experienced.

So I'm mostly writing this for anyone still considering whether to buy it or not, and if it's worth your time. I won't tell you whether you should enjoy it or not, I don't think anyone should do that. I'd say judging from the user review scores and general backlash, it's completely understandable to want to hold off. But if you have any inkling at all to play it, I wouldn't wait (only because you'd run the risk of being spoiled). So if you are interested at all, I'd buy it, play it, and try not to listen to extreme reviews on either end of the spectrum. Make up your own mind, but I will say that I feel like I got my money's worth, and enjoyed the experience overall.

A worthy follow-up, though not quite as good as the first game. Gameplay has been improved greatly with more fluid melee combat and the ability to jump and crawl. Also a few sections with some free-roam/exploration areas that are more open world than the first.

Story-wise, I think it does well to explore the price venegence takes on people and how trauma can stay with a person long after an event. It also does a good job of making you more sympathetic to characters you start off hating. After finishing the game, I was satisfied with the story, even if it ends on a fairly depressing note

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The Last Part II didn’t go the way I expected. You might even say that the story was a gut punch. That being said, I loved it from start to finish nonetheless. I was a big fan of the first game, and despite the change in direction for Part II, nothing felt out of place for me. Jumping into the world of TLOU felt good after all those years, and it felt familiar. Then, BAM!, we’re faced with tragedy: Joel’s brutal death at the hands of Abby. “Who is this girl, anyway?” I was quite upset. Much like Ellie, I wanted revenge; I bought in. On a three day quest through the ruins of Seattle, I felt angry, and I could not wait to find Abby and get revenge. After all, Joel’s death couldn’t go unpunished. Then, in another unexpected turn of events, I’m forced to live the same three days as my dreaded enemy: Abby. At first, I wasn’t pleased with this turn of events, but I ended feeling for Abby at the end of this three day journey. Joel’s death was hard to stomach, but The Last of Us was never about heroes and villains, and I am okay with that. The sorry wasn’t what I expected; it wasn’t even really what I wanted at first, but it turned out to be better. For me, it’s 10/10. As far as the gameplay is concerned, it’s an improvement in just about every way when comparing the game to its predecessor. Much like Uncharted 4 learned from The Last of Us, Part II learned from U4. I also really liked that playing as the Ellie felt different from playing as Abby. In fact, I like that every character I’ve played as in the world has felt different. Another 10/10 for me in that category. To each their own. Expand
