The game as amazing from the gameplay to the story, which was quite honestly exceptional. When I finished the game it took me over a week to get over it and process everything...when a game makes you cry, you know they did something right. Kudos to Naughty Dog for creating one of the greatest games ever and they should ignore the hate coming from a bunch of morons that have the emotional/intellectual maturity of a 6 year old. After playing Ghosts of Tsushima I thought it would be hard for any game to effect me so emotionally but TLOU 2 out did even GOT so again, kudos to the developers for creating a generational game that rivals the Witcher 3. The Last Of Us 2 is a visually stunning and exciting game that could have been a straight 10/10 if not for the writers sacrificing a solid plot for the sake of a forced LGBT narrative. And I think this is quite poorly integrated and so detracts from the flow that was created in the first game. My annoyance at story elements in the game was such that I was inclined to want to score it 0, but while Joel is disappointingly killed early on, his and Ellie’s story is continued through flashbacks which are poignant. If they wanted to create an LGBT narrative it may have worked well in a subsequent title, but largely throwing the Joel and Ellie narrative in the bin in favour of new characters who we are set up to despise from the outset was a poor creative choice by Naughty Dog. It’s comparable to killing Daniel Larusso or Rocky off in the sequels to their classic movies and expecting us to enjoy watching the rest when it’s about characters that killed our heroes - it would make no sense and would kill all hope and desire for subsequent instalments.

In terms of scoring this, I gave 5/5 for the graphics, game mechanics, and level design. For the story I give it 2/5 since it’s like a heavily diluted version of that which I eagerly anticipated and expected. Still, the devs made an extraordinary amount of money from this game and so perhaps they don’t mind having thrown their credibility in the toilet. I will not be watching the upcoming series nor playing any more games from this company.

Oh well. The first game was great.

This game is a masterpiece, nice graphic, story and characther. Even though the ending of the scene is not very satisfying, the gameplay is very satisfying and interesting, telling the meaning of revenge and regret that never ends. And as a result of that we lose the people we love.

It was the fourth time I've played it through and I thought I'd overdone it by playing it again but I was blown away by the pacing and story telling yet again. It is easily the best story game ever made, even now.

Any chance of this game succeeding ended immediately when Joel was killed. The original game is basic copy of Die Hard: an extremlely determined tough guy (with the help of Ellie) overcomes enormous odds to deliver a young girl to a hospital to save the world. That's pure entertainment.

The sequel to this game would be to do something similar. That's the expectation people have for a sequel. Somebody needs to tell Naughty Dog this. What we have here it the equivalent of John McClane taking a bullet in the first 5 minutes of Die Hard 2 and his wife going on a rampage through the streets of New York killing every single person just to get to the one bad dude who killed McClane. After 20 hours you flip to play Hans Gruber for a further 20 hours and by the end you love Hans Gruber and hate John McClane. Yep, that's the story in a nutshell. And yes, it fails miserably.

    Postitives
    - The best visual design and graphics I've seen in a game
    - Incredible motion capture
    - Set-pieces. There's some really cool events that really keep you on your toes.
    - Flash backs to earlier times. It reminds you why you loved the first game, but makes me sad that they still had the skills to make a great sequel but chose not to.

    Negatives
    - Narrative. It's long, slow and dumb. They try to convince you that one or the other character is good, the short of it is that you're falling and out of love with mass murdering psychopaths. The game is meant to be cheese, if you take it seriously as a form of art then you're sympathising with murderers.
    - Characters. They're unlikeable and miserable.
    - Art Direction. Ellie and Joel have become considerably uglier, is there some kind of new virus making people ugly?
    - Length. It's 4 times longer than it should have been. This game could have been released years ago had someone looked up the definition of "editing". I feel sorry for the software developers who spent years of their lives meticulously crafting abandoned environments, they did a fantastic job. It's such a shame they were let down by the top man.
    - The new "dodge" mechanism. It doesn't work properly, you still get hit even when dodging. The directions for how to use it are misleading. It's utterly infuriating to fight characters using it. I punched my controller into a chair in frustration while repeatedly dying from it. I haven't done this since I was a teenager (which was a long time ago). I wasn't expecting this shoddiness.
    - FPS. It has frame rate issues (on the standard console version). This isn't something I recall seeing in a Naughty Dog game, and it's just sloppy. It breaks the 4th wall everytime it happens and it destroys the immersion.
    - Gameplay. The game is too difficult in Normal mode, I died probably 100 times in the playthrough. When you do succeed it feels like a fluke. The guitar feature is trash, how can I play a guitar skilfully with one big dumb ass button?

This game teaches a good moral lesson. Don't pre-order games!
This game isn't enjoyable. Please cannon this story or move on to something else ND!

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. After the end of the first part, I felt the finished story, so I didn't think there would be a second part. At the time of the announcement of the game in 2016, i was still delighted with this, and waited for the release of the game, periodically replaying the first part. knowing how they like to post various rumors, I avoided all information about the game in order to dive into the game on my own. In the first hours, I got an unexpected pain from the plot twist, but continued the game, I wanted to understand that everything was not done in vain, and everything has a logical development. Unfortunately, my hopes were dashed. The illogicality of actions began with the behavior of Joel, who changed in character and now trusts the first person who comes across and tells all the information about himself: where he lives, what he and his brother do, what their names are, although it is obvious that nobody in this world can no longer be trusted if you never knew him. As a result, the character of both Joel and Ellie changed. The supporting characters are just dummies, without an interesting story and any logical actions.
Especially pleased with the pregnant doctor, who has nothing to do and she went to fight in the last month, just delirium. Already now it is difficult for me to continue to write a review, with each written word I am more and more in pain from what continuation they made on the first game.

And I’d absolutely hate it if the game did this. But I just don’t see any indication of that. Game is great. However, at the midway point about 10-11 hours in, it started to lose me. There’s a cliffhanger and then you’re playing Abby’s side of the story for the next 8-10 hours which slowly began to kill it for me. 2 hours was okay, but then the story began to revolve around new characters you had to help for some reason, which annoyed me as at that point I just wanted the game to reach it’s end. I’d give the game 8/10, as it was still great, but for me around 8-10 hours to long which drags score down. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Let me start off by saying that I, like many here was a huge fan of the first game. I have been looking forward to this game for years and avoided any spoilers that came out. With that said, The Last of Us Part 2 is a beautiful looking game, the graphics, environments, and fight sections are extremely well done. The Flashbacks with Ellie and Joel were great, especially the museum sequence. The voice acting is also great for the most part. HOWEVER, this games biggest downfall is it’s pacing, the story absolutely fails to make you sympathize with Abby after she murders Joel. Which in its own right doesn’t even make much sense with how it happens, but I digress. The fact that the game constantly pulls you out of climax moments for flashbacks just completely takes away from the pacing of the story. By the time I played Abbys half of the story and was seeing her flashbacks with the WLF and Owen and Mel, I found myself really disconnected because I had already killed them as Ellie several hours before. It would have made more sense to me to play as Abby first, or at least play as Ellie for a day and then Abby. I completely understand why Abby killed Joel, was it justified? In this world I’d say yeah probably, Joel killed plenty of people for less, however if you’re going to do that and then make me play as his killer you’ve got to set it up in a better way than was shown here. The supporting characters were all fine, none of them really seemed to be given much time to shine though, I did really like Jesse and Dina and even Owen, but again, really hard to connect with him when I knew he was already dead. Lev and Yara were also fine, but not given a ton to do, you go on a fetch quest to save Yara that took an hour only for her to die almost immediately after so that was fun. I also think the ending was way too drawn out, I’m not even upset Ellie didn’t kill Abby in the end, although I think it probably would’ve made more sense. But introducing a whole new faction at the end of the game and fighting through hordes of them just to save Abby to fight her, when for all Ellie knows she’s already dead just didn’t make much sense to me. Anyway in conclusion, I don’t think this is the worst game ever made, not at all, this game does some things so right, but the pacing of the story make it such a slog to play at times. In the end I probably won’t replay this one, but if you catch a good sale it’s worth checking out at least for the gameplay. Expand

I think what would really please the current community is making a part where Joel and Ellie are the main characters, because that's all everybody wants, a Joel and Ellie adventure. Its timeline should be right before Ellie learns how to play guitar, When Joel plays the Future Days song and tells her that; I believe, I believe cause I can see, Our future days, Days of you and me. That's why this part should be called Future Days and it should start from there and end at the death of Joel, And maybe they should jump to the fight scene between Ellie and Aby (the one at the end). And maybe they should give an option to kill Aby this time and see which players will choose revenge for Joel, And which will forgive Aby and let her go just like she did with them. Anyways its just a thought, I hope Naughty Dog sees this and considers at least thinking about a part called Future Days.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The Last of Us — Part II is the most profoundly human, viscerally violent, lachrymose game I have ever played. It is tied together with beautiful graphics, immersive gameplay, and a stellar soundtrack. In my life, few games have caused me to reflect so deeply on the motivations of characters, and displayed such realism depicting their deaths. It is as controversial as it is beloved, but I will express why, in my opinion, this game is so noteworthy.

While The Last of Us struggled somewhat with lackluster gameplay, it’s sequel corrects all the original’s shortcomings. While some gameplay aspects remain, such as the scavenging and required stealth, many things have been adjusted and tweaked for a better overall experience. Combat is more fluid and responsive, with breathtaking animation for all the characters that adds to the immersion. A few mechanics have been added, including the ability to prone. This new ability allows you to hide under gaps in buildings and military trucks, amongst other things. Another new addition is a dedicated doge button. When fully mastered, players can dodge and counter an enemy’s attack, cause devastating blows which add a sense of desperation to each attack. The most notable tweak, however, is the shooting mechanic. Shooting now feels more refined, and hit and kill indicators have been added. As a whole, where the gameplay felt repetitive in the original, it now feels more fully realized, refined, and mature; it’s been polished with a shiny, new veneer.

Moving on, what would this game be without a good narrative? As always, Naughty Dog displays their masterful story telling. Once again, you’re introduced to Ellie, who is now older and more mature. In contrast to the first game, you now play as her through the majority of the game. She has settled into a semi-idealistic lifestyle in Jackson. Though she retains some of her iconic cheerful, quirky banter, you find that she’s grown into a quieter, more reserved adult (perhaps from her emotional traumas). Halfway through the game, you learn it is a story told in parallels between Ellie and her counterpart, Abby.

Abby is similar to Ellie in almost all regards. Like Ellie, she is a survivor hellbent on revenge. Robbed of someone once close to her, she would sacrifice anything to avenge their murder, and she does. It is this act of revenge that propels the story onwards; and brings Ellie to her hometown of Seattle, Washington. Here, the two eventually battle one another. Because of their similarities, their fight is extremely painful to watch — and even more painful to play through.

Sadly, both characters have wonderful character traits; even sadder, they both have abysmal flaws. Both characters are extremely loyal to their loved ones to a fault — literally, as both go to great lengths
to avenge the murders of their respective loved ones. Ellie’s biggest flaw stems from the guilt of being “saved” by Joel. Her counterpart’s stems from the devastation of losing loved ones. Throughout the game, countless lives are lost in seemingly pointless deaths. The dark reality of these deaths is that they’re caused by the shared blind loyalty both characters have. It is simultaneously their greatest strength and their greatest flaw. It is, as established in the previous game, the same corrupt love that propelled Joel’s selfish decision to save Ellie (blinding him to all the countless lives that would be lost). Overall, it’s story carefully tackles heavy themes of revenge, hatred, and the intoxicatingly self-destructive nature of violence. In conclusion, this is, arguably, the most thought-provoking game ever made. With new polished gameplay mechanics, it feels like the older brother to its predecessor. Its story constantly challenges its player to question motives, to abhor the violence its player is committing, and to challenge the desensitized nature of violence in video games. It is a game that stays with you long after you finish it, and it has enough replay value for you to play multiple times. In conclusion, this game is a masterpiece chalk full of Naughty Dog’s artistry and attention to detail both in fidelity and moral ambiguity. It’s story is as tragic as it is brutal, and it is an immaculate vision executed with near perfection; a truly worthy sequel.

Its the Walking Dead but the zombies have mushrooms on them and is packed with modern day politics. If you enjoyed the first game, believe that it deserved more content, expect to play the additional content with no hopes of closure to the mushroom zombie apocalypse, want to play a game that the mushroom zombies have become second fiddle to the human on human drama (such as sexual preference as opposed to are we going to be killed today by **** zombies), are into playable movies, and a game that like Duke nukem forever took way too long to come out and completely missed its hype train, beautiful graphics that are on par with every other ps4 triple a game, being mislead to think you will continue to play with the same character from the first game to find out you play 12 hours of the game as the man woman, and is riddled with plot holes: then this game is for you. Even still, its not worth $60. I stand strong with the "$1 per hour up to $60" law. And that includes replay hours. Its a 25-30 hour 4 part dlc that derails from the story and has been made into child's play thanks to the dodge button. Im actually pissed off that I had to delete Modern Warfare to install this. If you've ever played a Telltales game, then you know exactly what to expect in terms of gameplay. As for the "open world" aspect, please don't fall for that **** either. The biggest area you encounter is like a downtown area, and you can explore the surrounding buildings on set routes because most of everything is "blocked off" by rubble and clutter. The best way to describe this snooze fest is Telltales Walking Dead on Monster with mushroom walkers and a dodge button. In 16 hours of play time, you spend 3 of it in flashbacks. I haven't made it to the Abbey part, but I've heard its on par with playing as Raiden in Metal Gear Solid 2 for the next 12 hours of the game. If you've played MGS2, then you understand and appreciate that comparison. Get gamefly, borrow it off a friend, or wait for a price drop. They've lifted the ban on returning the game, and those that haven't destroyed their physical copies are returning it already, in waves. Play it for yourself and find out. It truly is a spectacle, if youre not a gamer. If you are a gamer, its just another boring game. Keep your politics out of our games, its where we go to escape your politics :) Expand

It makes me very sad that a TLOU part two, has been stained with changing everything iconic done by the previous title.

That in no media they dared to say the name of one of the protagonists, since they knew that she would be responsible for all the aforementioned controversy. It is more than clear that those ten were not given in an honest way. A real shame, I wouldn't want that

Not everyone is going to enjoy the motives of The Last of Us Part II. But if you try and manage to accept the subliminal and not so subtle messages as a fact that the world has gone awry and that people have the need to have somewhere or someone to belong to as their own way out, then...
