WOW, everything still looks the same. This game just comes down to character development , story and emotions. I just did not see it in this game, how i saw it on part one. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Although this game was not the best compared to the first one it wasn't bad. There were parts in this game especially that i felt was unnecessary. And killing off Joel at the beginning just left a sour taste. Best parts were the cut scenes of the past whem they show ellie with joel but it kinda took away from The story. At the end when we let abby go and we return to the farm house it was nice but i feel like it was just too ehh. But the last cut scene with joel was what hit the most and made me give this game anything above a 5. Expand

The game fell so short, it shouldn't have been considered and/or released.

Visuals - Amazing. It's a beautiful game. The landscapes, scenery, characters, infected, etc. look great. the artists did not disappoint.

Story - It was terrible. Joel gets killed at the beginning by Abby. I'm not upset about that as that helped me connect with Ellie again and want revenge!! But as I was well on my way in doing so, the creators felt I might want to know Abby's side of the story. I have to say, I couldn't have cared less about that at all. I wanted to kill her because of what she did. By the time I was returned to playing Ellie, I wanted to break the game. I was disconnected from her. It didn't feel like the game I started playing when I first loaded it. Feelings aside, Abby's story was interesting but it should have been made into an optional DLC rather than an interruption in the game. The LGBTQ pandering didn't help the cause either as it made no logical sense to inject the story with it other than to cater to the "woke" leftist mob (had to get the political stuff off my chest).

Overall, the creators did a terrible job with the story. The break from Ellie and Joel to the forced story of Abby was the wrong choice. I can't think of a worse thing to do than to interrupt the story of the characters everyone bought the game for to play a character no one knows and who I personally didn't like (in the main story). She should have been a DLC storyline.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Visually the game is stunning. The mechanics are similar to the first game. The game is too long and repetitive. The game becomes a chore due to this. I did not enjoy playing this game. I finished the game for the sake of finishing it. I would never replay this game as I did with the first game. The story is awful. The art of story telling is so important to me as a gamer. The bond between the characters and the consumer/user is broken and flushed down the toilet. I doubt I will purchase another game made by naughty dog ever again. Expand

Expand

Having just completed the game, there isn’t much more I can add. It’s just a bad sequel. There were some stand out moments and some intense gameplay, but they were few and far between and nothing better than the first game. Also, it was boring. I found myself looking at my phone during cutscenes, I never did this during the first game because I was engaged with the characters. I did not care about the characters in TLOU2. In fact, I did not like them, even characters from the first game I had grown attached to, I now disliked.

Also, very concerning this game has received so many ‘masterpiece’ reviews when there is obviously a lot of issues that any critic would recognise, let alone professional game reviewers.

I give this game a 5 because of the sheer technical achievement, which cannot be ignored.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I really hated this. This is the most cynical game I’ve played in a long time. Whilst it has a message about identity politics, it has no story, or at least one the makes sense. It just meanders without any over-riding sense of purpose. The structure isn’t clever; in fact, it works against the faux narrative. It’s attempt to make you care about the character of Abbey is so obvious and poorly-executed that you’ll be yelling at the screen. In fact, I’ve spent too much time on this game already. A toxic experience. Expand

All politics and drama aside. Here is how Last of us 2 stacked up to the first game: while playing the first game I didn't want it to end, while playing part 2, I couldn't wait for it to end. Last of us 2 was a complete disappointment.

Certainly doesn't deserve lower than a 5 however, the critics are smoking some seriously dank **** if they think this was a masterpiece like the first installment.

Play it for yourself, it is certainly worth a one time playthrough, you won't want to new game though.

Do we really expect anything else when considering the level of **** we have had over the last 10 years.

The message that violence and vengeance is a circle that will eventually come back around to haunt you is beaten into the gamer relentlessly, so much so that one doesn't feel fulfilled or enlightened by the end of the game but physically and mentally exhausted. The games setup for improving guns and skills is made to encourage replaying the game but the thought of suffering through the monotonous repetitive flashbacks and multiple endings is painful to consider and ultimately left me shelvingn the game for what could be a long while. I think 6/10 is fair. Nice try, e incredible graphics and fluid nature of the hand to hand const are not enough to raise this score. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. It has marvelous graphics and mechanics, it could be the best of the generation. Level design is great, guns are fantastic represented and the gameplay is just freaking amazing. I'm giving a 6/10 because the history is a total nonsense. First you encounter with a grown Ellie, wich is not the Ellie from the first game because she lost any piece from her amazing personality, then Joel died at the first 2 hours, not giving you any explication. All Ellie's history was right, then Abby history, I will say it clear, no one gives a **** and the final is the top of the nonsense. If you don't care about the history you will love it. If you do, don't waste your money on it. Expand

First let me just say, hats off to ND for the incredible graphics. The graphics of this game is one of a kind. Gameplay wise I think it was above average. Nothing too different from the first one.

But the story was a failure to me. I know ND tried something different with the story but it just didn't click with me. At some point I just wanted the game to be over because I grew tired.

First of all he combat I did actually enjoy quite a bit, it felt hard hitting and visceral which is super satisfying, each arrow shot looked like it really impacted each and every enemy, the mechanics with dodging and attacking I haven't seen elsewhere, so great work in that respect.

The graphics and environments are stunning as expected from Naughty Dog, the detail is crazy with every corner and crevice filled with overgrown plants and details and truly makes you feel as if you are in a post apocalyptic world. Truly pushes the PS4 to its limits whilst keeping a stable experience.

Unfortunately now we have to move onto the story, which I didn't think I would have to say about a The Last of Us title, but its not very good, pretty bad in fact, and that is it separated from the spectacle of the first game. It feels really messy with a constant, jarring shift in perspective between characters, some who Naughty Dog really want you to care about, so much so that whole sections, or even the whole of the story will just seem terrible if you don't care enough about them. In comparison, The Last of Us gave us Ellie and Joel to relate with and even if you somehow didn't like the characters you still understood that there is a mission to be done to help the human race. Here there isn't any of that and completely relies on you caring hard for those characters with no story backbone but that. I can see what Naughty Dog attempted with this style of story telling but unfortunately it didn't succeed and I really had to force myself through the latter part of the game...

There's alot more I could say about the story but that would start getting into spoiler territory and that's isnt what this is for. So overall I would say 6.5/10 but due to the rating system here I feel as if I would be stretching too hard to give this game a 7/10 so for me, here it takes a 6.

    Pros:
    > Satisfying combat with visceral fighting.
    > Gorgeous environments and amazing graphics.

    Cons:
    > Storyline was ambitious but didnt meet the bar to keep me hooked.
    > Emotional attachment to the characters were relied on too heavily for the story, and I didn't feel
emotionally invested in them for the story to hit its beats.

I saw the critic reviews and am honestly shocked, it feels more and more difficult to trust them these days. I can totally understand if someone happened to enjoy this game, but seeing an insane amount of reviews saying 9/10 or 10/10 is kind of shocking that these are the people who rate these games. Always read user reviews before purchasing a game! We aren't paid off like many critics actually are, we are just real gamers like yourself who are emotionally invested in purchasing a game.

I hope Naughty Dog learn from this and improve for their next adventure.

    - Sam

note: I would only recommend buying this game once it is on offer for around $30 max. If you are looking for a different PS4 game to play now before the PS4's life cycle is over I highly recommend Ghost of Tsushima, masterpiece of this generation.

Not everyone is going to enjoy the motives of The Last of Us Part II. But if you try and manage to accept the subliminal and not so subtle messages as a fact that the world has gone awry and that people have the need to have somewhere or someone to belong to as their own way out, then...
