This is not about what you want a story to be, it's about them telling their own story, whether you like or not.
Simply put, one of the best games ever made. From the beginning until the very end.
Brilliant in my honest opinion, do yourself a favour and just play it.

Es un juego muy amargo que no cualquiera puede digerir pero es excelente con una buena historia, recomendado al 100% para los que quieren cambiarle a los juegos con historias sencillas y predecibles, si se sufre pero se disfruta esta historia que es y será inolvidable.

The first game, for me, was the best game I've ever played, by MILES. Until the sequel. I'm not sure yet where the sequel stands in comparison to the first one, but I can say without hesitation that they are at the very least the 2 best games I've ever played.

Addressing the elephant in the room first: While there is not as much Joel as everyone would have liked, this is still primarily a Joel and Ellie story. The whole game/plot and everything that happens is because of Joel and his relationship with Ellie. Yes, Joel died early on in the game, however we got plenty of Joel and Ellie through flashbacks and the two of them had a fantastic story arch with a beginning, middle and end. I think anything more than what we got would have been redundant and overbearing. We did not need another ‘Joel and Ellie go on another adventure’ game. We got that with the first game. The story in this game in my opinion is a fluent, cohesive continuation of the first and if there was ever going to be a second game, I’m so glad this is the one we got.

Everyone seems so hung up on the fact that their favourite character dies early on, that they don’t appreciate that Joel’s absence is just as important to the story, if not more than when he was there. And he and Ellie had their own fully fledged story and character arcs.

Beautiful game. My only gripe is the pacing. So many times I thought the chapters could have been condensed as they felt really stretched out and I think the game could have benefitted from being shorter.

Soundtrack was beautiful and in my opinion better than the first. Loved Abby’s character and towards the end of the game , I liked her more than Ellie.

This is one of the rare times that a sequel has succeeded my expectations and improved on the first in every aspect: gameplay, graphics, animation, sound design, acting, characters, story and soundtrack. It’s a game that will stick with me for years and years to come. It’s been close to a week since I completed the game and it’s still the only thing on my mind.

A twofolded story in which two round, complex characters face the trials and tribulations -- sometimes harsh ones -- of revenge. Contrary to what most people expected, the game doesn't offer a flat, linear, kill-them-all story but makes us reconsider who is on the good or the bad side of it, to eventually conclude that there is no hero in this one. Joel and Ellie weren't samaritains in the first episode and that had consequences as well as the fact that the newly hated character of Abby isn't a bad character either. As such, the story is far for being simple and is yet bashed or mocked by people around here. Don't believe the hate hype. Try and the game and make your own opinion. I actually found this part as enjoyable as the first one.

Even though the game is much more accessible and more story-based than the first one, you can't truly experience it without going through it on "hard" or "survival" difficulty. It took me more than 30 hours to complete it and I enjoyed every second of it. You sometimes just need to step back, think for yourself, and consider the fact that a spin-off can never be the same as the original. It offers a new perspective by questioning his original point of view and his role on the first episode.

This is a pretty good game, incredibly detailed and gorgeous, and improves upon it's predecessor in some ways, but is overall an inferior game. The first Last of Us is one of my favorite games of all times.

Story and writing are sharp. It does push some politics but not in the dramatic, goose-egg way that some people are claiming. However, I was very disappointed with the ending. It does not wrap up the journey in my opinion. A better ending would have bumped it up 1-2 points.

Combat and gameplay mechanics are improved, but again suffer from some drawbacks. Unique set pieces are much less frequent in this game, and it suffers from that rinse-and-repeat feel of a lot of open-world games. The first game was much tighter and linear. This game really opens up the world and it works at times, but it makes the game feel less unique and very mundane throughout a lot of it. I found myself exhausted and sneaking around, dispatching enemies, and scavenging, and because the story isn't as strong, and the characters not as engaging, it makes it that much harder to trudge through repetitive gameplay, however detailed and intense it may be (and they combat is very intense!). The first game was the perfect hybrid between open and linear and it worked. If I wanted an open world game and repetitive gameplay, I'll go play Assassin's Creed. I'm here for something more unique.

They added jumping and it "works" but that's about all it does: works. There is a lot of it and it doesn't feel great. A minor complaint, but when jumping is a crucial element to the gameplay and you are either jumping, squeezing, or sliding to progress through each section of the game, it should "feel" fun. Not like I'm fighting gravity or my character just ate a large pizza and is feeling lethargic. The same goes with the new "get knocked onto your back when you get shot" mechanic. It was exciting the first few times, but it happens WAY TOO OFTEN, and gets annoying quick, as every enemy seems to be an expert marksman, even when realistically, you get the drop on them (and I played on the moderate difficulty -- normal). The combat suffers from balance issues in this regard. The first game was too easy even on grounded (I could charge most enemies with a break and punch them to death), so I see why they tried to improve that, but it needs some tweaking.

Again, overall, a pretty good game. Some minor gameplay tweaks and even a slightly improved ending could upgrade this to a "great" game. It's a shame too, given how much detail and effort was put into this game. I appreciate all the hard work that Naughty Dog put into the game. That's why it's really too bad that the people in charge of the story couldn't wrap it up in a more compelling way. The first game was a masterpiece. This game has potential. But Naughty Dog missed the mark.

A lot of parts felt very dragged just to make the game longer. I know the story doesn’t have the obligation to make the us players happy with the ending and all, but during 90% of the time the game just felt unpleasing to play. I wanted more from the relation of Joel and Ellie, but all I got was flashbacks. That was awful. The gameplay got repetitive at the end(same executions). The sound design, the graphics, the art direction, the acting, and the level design are all batting at thousand. The survival gameplay was THIS close to perfection, my biggest gripe with the gameplay is how much of the game is slowed to a crawl to find resources. There is an option in the game to make picking up resources automatic but it is unbelievable to me that this isn't default or at least prominently suggested as an option. So that leaves the story. There are stories that only work as games like Bioshock and Undertale, and then there are stories that could work as almost anything like The Last of Us Part 1. The Last of Us Part II is a story that only works as an experience. If you haven't played the first game, I would argue that it is absolutely NOT optional to play Part II without having played Part I. And then once you play the story you are taken through an experience that is almost hard to explain. Unlike other franchises in gaming where they milk these worlds and characters as far as it can, The Last of Us Part II sacrifices its universe in order to take the gamer through an experience no game has ever dared gone before. Judging from the reception this game received, I fear no game will ever dare go again. But I for one, am grateful to have been a part of this experience. Many a gamer will argue that the theme of this game is "Revenge bad! Grrrr," I would implore any gamer who plays this game to not go into this game with that mindset because the theme is a lot deeper than that. Any gamer who's played this game once, I would urge to play it again without such a negative mindset. Its been almost a year and I still think about this game to this day. If you like games with good survival horror mechanics, I would say look no further. If story truly plays an important aspect as to why you play video games, I would also say look no further. However, if your personal expectations for stories plays such an important role in your enjoyment of stories, then I would say that I personally feel you are not ready for this kind of game. This game's story punches you in the gut and dares you to learn to accept. I think this game is historic, its not my favorite game of all time but it will always hold a special place in my heart and I think once all the dust has settled and years have gone by, this game will be beloved. If you have access to this game you owe to yourself to play The Last of Us Part 1 first, and then play this game to experience this storytelling experience that you just flat out won't find in any other medium. This game isn't about shock value, it's about guilt and the realities of not taking what you have for granted. I personally would give this game a 9.5/10, but that wasn't an option and I do think the gameplay annoyance of constant searching for resources, (on top of something else gameplay related but tied to the story that forces you to essentially "do it all again") brings it down just shy of a 10/10. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I have to be careful to not let my emotion sour an objective review of the game. Many people have rated it in the red, but in terms of gameplay, mechanics, graphics, sound and otherwise the quality of the game I would say is elite. The variety of options for moving around and taking on enemies (from infected to people), with different weapons, stealth, attack, distractions and such is great.

However...... The Last of Us as a whole was built around a story, and a very deep story at that. The development of Joel and Ellie in game 1, surviving the world and challenges together gave the player a deep emotional connection to these characters and the storyline of the game as a whole. I feel The Last of Us Part II took a big **** on those characters and our connection as players to those characters. *SPOILERS BELOW*

There are definitely holes in the plot and in the character behavior itself, such as Joel and Tommy losing their survival instinct and skepticism that has kept them alive for the past 20+ years, and Ellie going on a nationwide manhunt, killing hundreds of people mercilessly just to decide against killing the one person shes after...

I do not mind the fact that Joel died, however it could have been done much better, and would have preferred it to happen later in the game. The biggest issue I found with the game was the fact that we were forced to play as Abby (Joel's murderer) and for such long periods. Not only that, but we also had to fight against Ellie as this character. I found this all to be a huge disrepect to the player and our bond with Ellie and Joel, and because of that it made the game unenjoyable to play through those parts (a solid 10-14 hours worth).

There were some real moments, especially between Ellie and Joel in flashbacks, and the emotion felt by her during the death but unfortunately the rest of the game and story overshadowed that.

In the end, my rating are as such:
    • Gaming = 10/10 (brilliant visuals, mechanics, sound and otherwise)
    • Story = 2/10 (a huge disrespect to the player, characters and survival dynamic)
    FINAL SCORE = 6/10

This game is following the current marketing trend of inserting LGBTQ propaganda into its medium. Which is not bad but very hard to do well, and really has no place in this game. The use of a multicultural cast shouts in your face "This is progress. Accept it!". However, the game fails to allow any solid connection to anyone other than Ellie or Joel. The narrative was confusing and the storytelling was sophomoric. Whoever thought is was a good idea playing as the villain for 10 hours needs to stop writing video games and go back to their tumblr blog.

As of the positives. The attention to detail is amazing. The mechanics are cool and the graphics are amazing. You can tell they put a lot of time and effort into this game. It saddens me to write this.

To conclude, This is not a 1 star game and it is not a 10 star game it is kinda right in the middle.

The the switch to Abby, the mysterious but impending realization that they're after Joel and then finally the murder of Joel. Let me tell you something, no other game has made me feel so bad/sad/angry at the same time. Then when Ellie sets out for revenge and all the Ellie part is awesome. At that point the game was 20/10 for me. Then the Abby part i felt was a bit drawn out. I loved the story of Abby, but as a character she is the most hated. I've never hated someone so much in my entire life. The thing about this game is that it sets you in a parallel. Both Ellie's and Abby's path are parallel. It's just how it changes from person to person is what matters. The most amazing thing was that, in my 10 years of gaming, playing God of War, RDR 2, Horizon, Uncharted Series, Spider-Man etc, none of them could muster up SO much EMOTION that it felt like I was the one committing that said act. When Ellie is choking out Abby at the end right? it felt like my hands (I) was choking out Abby, and at that point I wanted Ellie to stop. I wanted her to not become what she set out to hunt. And she stopped. I'm going to be honest at 90 % of the game I felt like it was an 6/10 or 7/10 , but at that moment, the mere FACT, that I felt like it was me that was choking out Abby, that it was my hands that were committing that act, that's when it became 10/10 for me. I think that if they would've pulled off this game in any another way, ANY other way, I wouldn't have felt that in the end. Expand
