The best game of 2020 until someone proves otherwise. Technical elements of gameplay never seen in any other game. An exemplary level of polishing. An absolutely mature and bold outcome, a huge reflection on the human being. Strong and intense story. A game about people, about human behavior. Sensitive and brutal. Inviting and challenging. The industry needs games with this level of excellence.

I am 3 hours in and the game is the most detailed, most cinematic game experience that I've ever seen, just alone for that it is a game that is significantly better than average.
Gameplay-wise I agree this is more of a refinement of the gameplay mechanics established in part 1, but that I like that and it is definitely an improvement.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I really dont understand from where all the hate comes for this game. The characters are interesting and I like that they show the other side and the story of Abby. We are in the world of a deadly pandemic, there are no right ir wrong anymore. Neil Druckmann said this game will be different with a different message. Obviously we can argue about losing a beloved character, there is no right way for that.

TLOU Part II story is stronger and more complex than the first part. It is a great sequel and give a beautiful closure for Ellie. She went through hell in Last of Us Part 2 she struggles with hate, revenge, love and mercy. She pays the ultimate price for her revenge. She doesnt make the right choices in number of occasions but at the end she did a right thing to let Abby go. Brilliant game with a great message. It is not for everyone and you do can see that in the user scores. (However this is still result of hate campaigh of some clickbait youtubers based on the leaks and false information).

Also I would like to add that the previous part story line was predictable but still exceptional, however, part two has strong turns and twist from the very start till the end. It pushes everyone to look a bit in themselves and ask what would I do? would I have the strength to do this? This level of complexity in story and characters is externally rare in videogames but even in filmmaking. I also fund it genius on how involved the players become from begin. Neil Druckmann and his team created a truly misunderstood masterpiece.

It is great just like the first part and please give it a true chance and if you really loved the first part than don’t listen to all the hate and misinformation! Make up your own mind and opinion!

    10/10 Thank you Naughty Dog!

I really loved this game. I waited for over seven years in order to play the sequel to the original one and it was very well worth it. I cried for over an hour with the ending and during a critical plot point at the beginning. The graphics are great, borderline next-gen. The sound design is great and scary at times. The game-play is amazing and a fantastic evolution of the first game's, with many varied kinds of weapons, crafting materials and ways to approach both exploration and combat. Puzzles are ingenious and actually require thinking to solve, unlike the first game. The secrets and collectibles are very well hidden and are very rewarding to find and actually useful to your journey. The lore, the side stories and the people who live in this world are intriguing, deep and relatable. The animations are outstanding and very realistic. The artificial intelligence of the enemies and allies is impressive. The game is full of beautiful, realistic-looking landscapes, detailed models, but also very explicit gore and violent combat which I liked. The story is unique, mostly unpredictable, tense and very well told, the writers know really well how to curve your expectations and how to play with your emotions. It took me 39 hours to finish the game by playing slowly and carefully exploring every area I could, but even then I didn't find all the collectibles on my first play-through. I imagine you could finish it in 20 hours or so by only playing through the main objectives.

The conservative snowflakes who got triggered that some characters are gay or whatever are blowing things way out of proportion. Those aspects of the characters aren't relevant to the overall plot, aren't their only defining characteristics, and the game doesn't even delve deep into those topics or into politics at all for that matter, not to mention that some of those aspects were already touched upon in the previous title's Left Behind expansion. Even if the game did push a political agenda (which it doesn't), that wouldn't necessarily, in my opinion, be a reason to negatively review the game. Let's be adults and learn to appreciate works of art for what they are, even if we disagree with the message. Most of the negative reviews I'm seeing here are from those kinds of people and from people who didn't even play the game and are just spreading hate for no logical reason.

Some of the legitimate negative reviews I’ve read say that they didn't like the story, or the ending, or the tone of the plot, or that the actions of the characters didn't fit their established personalities, or even that they didn't like the events that happened to the characters in the game. I disagree with them but I somewhat understand where they are coming from.

This is not an optimistic, lighthearted, cliche, money-grabbing, fan-serving sequel or a happy game at all, this is a gritty, deep, mature game with a sad, tragic, post-apocalyptic story which might not be everybody's cup of tea, I get it; but that doesn't mean that the game itself is bad or that the story is poorly written. I would even venture to assume that many of the people who didn't empathize with the motivations of the characters have yet to experience any major loss in their lives or are just not the kind of people who are prone to violence or trauma, or perhaps they simply weren't open enough to something other than what they internally expected the game to be.

I didn't like that improved melee weapons don't work exactly as they did in the original game, where the added parts were spent first and had a separate durability than that of the main melee weapon. I liked the soundtrack a lot, especially the tracks that play during combat and tense sections but I feel like it was missing a more memorable and catchy main theme like the one the first game had. I am beyond disappointed that you don't get to visit the Space Needle, you see it at a distance and the characters even acknowledge it but you never get to go there. I've never been to Seattle but if you're going to set a game in there I feel like it is a huge missed opportunity not to include the most iconic landscape of the city in it. I am also a little disappointed that we didn't get to know more of the past of one of the main characters, perhaps that could be explored in a standalone expansion like the first game did with Left Behind. An improved multiplayer mode like on the first one would have been nice but it’s not a deal-breaker. I would also have done things differently at the very end of the game had I written the story or if I were the character but, as it is, it's still a powerful, strong closing to this amazing journey.

The game is totally worth it, I strongly recommend it. Do not listen to the hate, play it and judge for yourself.

"Characters exist to serve the story." This is not a game that will make you happy, it is devastating, sad and heartbreaking ... and that's the point. A surprising and original way of telling a story, a brilliant sequel with a powerful message that is more relevant than ever today. The amount of hatred this project incites is the perfect example of this. A masterpiece.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The negative reviews are so wrong! This game is a masterpiece! I hate SJWs, first of all, and I hate the agenda. That being said, those things are in everything now. There’s no getting away from it. This game has bits of that and the leakers seem to take great pride in revealing only those things. They didn’t mention the heartfelt flashback to a museum as astronaut Ellie. They didn’t mention the REASON that Abby killed Joel. Playing as Abby was, at first, off putting. I didn’t like it. I was mad at the creators for making me do it. Then something happened. I started to see things through her eyes. I started to care about Abby and her side. I’ll admit that it took a little while, even after finding out that her father was the Dr that Joel killed to save Ellie. Don’t get me wrong, I hate that Joel dies! It was brutal to watch. It hurt. On the same token, I can understand that Abby is not an evil **** She was getting revenge for her father.

I keep seeing reviewers saying there’s no story. They have not played the game. Period. Nobody can play the full game and say there’s no story. There is tons of story, great story! You just might not like it, so say there’s no story. The story is just as amazing as part one. Joel is there. He’s in the the flashbacks. Ellie finds out what he did at the hospital and hates him for it. She cuts him out of her life and shortly after he is killed. She is ridden with guilt and that’s what drives her vengeance do much. She let him down.

Stop listening to the bad reviews. You may not like it because of this or that, but you owe yourself to give it a chance. You can tell that the creators put countless hours of blood, sweat and tears into this game. They poured their souls into it. You can feel it throughout. Don’t miss out on this experience just because thousands of fake players say it’s bad. Chances are, you’ll love it!

This game is better than the first one in so many levels - emotional, visual, gameplay involvement. The game challenges controversial ethical choices, shows that there is no black and white, it is possible to be bad and good at the same time, to be right and guilty from different points of view, and that all actions have their consequences. Great story, great characters, great game.

It's hard to imagine what a sequel to The Last of Us should look like. I was always one of those people who believed that it never needed a sequel, and I think for those wanting one, they wanted an experience like the first one. another adventure with Joel and Ellie. I was always one of those people who believed that it never needed a sequel, and I think for those wanting one, they wanted an experience like the first one. another adventure with Joel and Ellie. That would have been a safe idea, but instead, Naughty dog gave us a story we weren't expecting, and I am so glad they did because almost every decision they made in this game paid off for me. There were so many moments that I questioned, was frustrated with or even hated, but as the game went on, I came to love the plot and even the structure of the story, which I know many people are mad about. I can understand the frustration of some players, and the game asks a lot of you, to trust the decisions of the game's creators. If you do that I think you'll see the true intentions of this game and walk away astounded as I was. I love this games story. this is a game about empathy, forgiveness, perspective, redemption and reconciliation wrapped and disguised as revenge story that demonstrates the nature of hatred and the cycle of violence up close and personal through the characters eyes and by their hands. its not pretty. Its grotesque, horrific and brutal. The gameplay translates this flawlessly. every combat encounter is white knuckled, because every gunshot and throat stab has a level of detail that is beyond any other game I've played. the controls, animations, gunplay, stealth and melee combat are polished to the highest degree. the way shootouts can transition into brutal slugfests and how you can find yourself jumping back into stealth is so seamless and so natural that I not only find it to be really fun, but one of the most immersive gameplay experiences ever when you include the incredible visuals and level design, character performances great writing and world building. There were moments I was left in tears from sadness, despair, anger and even joy. I cant stress enough how brilliantly this game comes together, but I am shocked to see how many people have pushed against it. In a way it's kind of fitting. I get where people are coming from. Instead of trying to understand each other we are too often irrational and see ourselves as the good guys. but we are all a bad guy in someone else's story to some extent, I'm sure its something most of us are already aware of but don't consider it often enough. this game asks us to consider that, when you shoot down an enemy and hear their friend cry out their name, or are deep in a story moment that frustrates you because its not what you wanted, try to understand why instead of thinking about yourself, because its not about us vs. them, its about all of us and in this fictional case it may very well be the last of us.

for real though this game is incredible, but I get why some people don't care for it. I think the most interesting games and movies are the ones that are a bit divisive as well. I'd give like a 96 if I could review it like the critics. very small things that keep it from a perfect 10 for me.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Oh what I can say about this game. Waited so long and its so amazing to look at, I wish it would come to PC just so I can see it in full detail settings. This may contain some spoilers based on what you may count as one. First and for most though, I want to say this, don't take any review into consideration on if to buy a game or not, everyone is going to be different and like different things and if you're upset about Ellie being gay, or about Lev or about anything of that nature, just move past it cause its causing you to miss out on some great things.

So lets start with whats bad.

-The AI for the NPC's gets them a little in the way, only happened about three times not a big deal.

-The controls are a bit of a learning curve to them took me a solid hour to remember how to run cause its not R or L 3 its L1 (Most games use the others cause its part of the joy sticks) but I suppose they have there reasons? Also came from playing Days Gone the day before so like maybe I was still stuck on how to do things in that game.

    - At least in my play through ammo was hard to find in the first half literally went through the first half of the game wishing I could just craft some at a crafting bench because I usually had 1 to 3 rounds for each gun, maybe 1 or 2 arrows and then maybe a pipe or something and thats a maybe, plenty of bricks and bottles laying around though, so why ammo so hard to find?

    - the inventory UI is a bit confusing at least to me due. They changed it up made it more modern I guess?
I personally prefer he first games more.

    - Joel, that's all I'll say

Now lets go to whats good.

    - the story, oh god this story, I was playing this game figured they'd break our hearts within the first 20 mins like they did with the first game, that dramatic moment with Sarah you know the one. Figured they'd do that to us again within the first little bit of the game, nope had the build up and the setting for it and they went on, until later which breaks our hearts

    - The visuals oh dear lord is this game beautiful to look at, it looks like they spent a lot of time and energy on the detailing and placing of objects. While playing I ended up finding a PS3 and just laughed

    - the fact they make you end up enjoying Abby even if its just a tiny bit, honestly hated her didn't want to do anything with her, didn't care about her, figured I'd just run through it real fast and get it over with and I found myself actually enjoying her side of the story, ended up taking an investment in what she did and her relationships with her friends.

    - The Wolves and the Scars and how it took the act of two to save one and now they're working together before our girl and Tommy shows up

    - They brought in complex emotions and uncomfortable topics and how the characters just accepted them and didn't freak out at least to much (in Ellie's defiance she was more mad she Diana was risking herself to be there with her at least that's how it come off to me) When Yara told Addy Lev is actually a girl by birth (not in so many words just said he was suppose to be a wife to an elder) and Addy just went along with it didn't bat and eye didn't care like it was normal for someone to be more masculine or feminine and them act on it.

    - Ellie, shes turned into quite the bad ass, she's been through so much and yet shes still the same Ellie from the first game, just all grown up and the moments where they're together make you feel like Joel and her really care about one another even though they fight and have disagreements they're like family.

    - Joel, seeing him again after 5 years playing as him, he's a little older, a little wise, yet he's still Joel.

    - We learn more about Tommy, I honestly didn't like Tommy much in the first game, just didn't stick me as a capable person as you play through the game and progress you learn a little more about him, and how alike him and Joel are.

In review, I recommend the game, play it, decide for yourself what you like and don't like about this game. Personally I think its great, 10 out of 10 would play again even if the ending isn't what everyone is wanting or expecting or if its different that what you expected I expected the game to pick up right after they left hospital and doing that, spending their time exploring and surveying dealing with what remained of the Firefly's or something along those lines but nope, we're thrown 4 years forward and an all grown up Ellie and an older Joel and it works. Go into this game with no expectations, it'll be a more fun ride that way.

Gameplay wise the game is a huge step up from the first game, it's more intense and far more visceral, especially melee combat which feels meaty. Small additions like being able to go prone open up lots of possibly for stealth, being able to crawl under cars, lay in grass to avoid patrols really opened up your options. The game also feels far more responsive than other games going for this hyper realistic style, gameplay was not sidelined for realism. As with all Naughty Dog games there were also many amazing set pieces with intense action sequences that got the adrenaline pumping.

Visually it's a masterpiece, the cut scenes especially were fantastic. The animations were just on another level, which made the game feel so much more realistic, the tiniest details were paid attention to and it made a big difference overall. The lighting, textures, shadows, character models and particle effects were all so well done, the developers didn't leave any of the PS4s power on the table, and they did it all without too many performance drops.

The audio was top-notch, with industry leading voice work and some of the best atmospheric sounds I've ever heard, which helped the gameplay feel beyond intense at times, certain areas were legitimately terrifying. One small touch which I loved was the fact enemies called out names when you killed their friends, it made them seem more real, instead of just random NPCs.

The story was excellent, with some truly heartbreaking moments and lots of little stories interwoven throughout. You got to see the other side of the story in a way that's rarely the case, which made you reflect on your decisions and made you ask yourself "am I the bad guy?".

Overall The Last of Us II is a masterpiece, and a game you definitely should play, unless you have a problem with a gay lead, like the people review bombing one of the best games ever made ;)

En definitiva una auténtica joya, y lo dice un jugador que juega sobre todo en Xbox. Expand

Haha the man babies are hilarious. 4 million copies in 3 days, just goes to show the vocal minorityp doesn't mean anything. All this review bombing has done will likely mean they'll scrap user reviews. Any same politically centre person looks at the game objectively. Gotta say so far it's brilliant

Honestly, the game is great, but there are some limitations. Story is disappointed but narrative is atmospheric. Gameplay is so tense and exacting! in general score 7-8 points, but need to raise the rating because of stupid people

The Last of Us Part II is the high point of the PlayStation 4. The plot is controversial, but the game is the incredibly addictive adventure of Ellie, from which it is impossible to pull away from the opening and to the very end.

Not everyone is going to enjoy the motives of The Last of Us Part II. But if you try and manage to accept the subliminal and not so subtle messages as a fact that the world has gone awry and that people have the need to have somewhere or someone to belong to as their own way out, then... You will witness the boundaries of gaming expand. You will witness a true masterpiece.

If you loved the original for its great characters and well-paced story – stay away from this game. However, if you’re aching to sink into the depths of depression, or just want to cut some throats and burn some zombies – Part II will deliver. [Issue#247, p.72]
