This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. So i completed the story at 5 am today and i have to say i'm overall disappointed with this game, HERE ME OUT.

So the pro's to this game are the attention to detail, from the graphic way of killing people to the pure genius of the sound design IE hearing people gargle on blood as they die or their friends calling out in anger/grief for them or just the sheer atmospheric music. The graphics are amazing and seeing someone's brains splatted on a wall after a head shot is an impressive feat of graphics.

    HOWEVER
Based on how violent and brutal the way you can kill people is, that can also be a drawback. It's traumatising the first time you kill one of the dogs let alone if like me you accidentally pressed the wrong button and bashed ones head in with the big hammer.

    NOW THE CONS.

The story, i mean like really, what did they think was going to happen when they decided to make this the story plot. They kill off Joel, the character that we adored from the first game and the dynamic he and Ellie had in the first game was just obliterated with a gold club (He deserved better)
The way Abby is like Guess when asked who she is like Joel would have any idea who she is. TO THE FACT THAT THEY MAKE YOU PLAY AS ABBY FOR AT LEAST 10 HOURS IN PART 2 OF THE GAME. Like they give you a character to hate like really hate and then they go, here play as this character to try and make you understand her reasons and sympathise with her. which is impossible to do, like at all. Then we get to the ending, Abby lets Ellie go in a way to make you feel like shes changed and is worthy of any forgiveness you may of given her while playing her character (still made no difference to me) but then you get to the very end and it Ellie just beats her to a pulp, looses her guitar playing fingers in that fight too and then lets her go after a flash memory of Joel as if the game is trying to say, Joel wouldn't of just killed her straight away (we know from the first game he wouldn't of hesitated). That was very lack lustre for me and I understand the games reasoning of like its a revenge story that turns into Ellie's grow story at the end but like it just did not win my heart over ending the game that way. Like Ellie through away her relationship with Dina and her kid to go "finish it" to then just not do what she was going to do. what was the whole point of showing the house section of the game knowing Ellie just gonna mess it up in the end for no reason.

Overall, The visuals and the sound are incredible, the extra game mechanics like crawling, the extra crafting options, swimming, the puzzle type ways to get through a building are all amazing and that is why this game gets a 7 from me.

It does not get any higher than that due to the disaster of the story-line.

Also, just to clarify should any media want to take my slightly negative review and say its due to the progressive characters in this game. I fully support people in general no matter race, gender, sexual preference. As long as you are not hurting anyone else, I care not for what you look like, what you identify as or who you date.

Such a disappointment after 7 years of waiting and hyping up to this game, Characters are confusing, gameplay is too repetitive, games also forces you to play a character who is irrelevant on why people bought this game in the first place. Story of the game is ruined by the director. Really wished they never made this sequel in the first place.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The gameplay is just as good as before, with a few new features, but generally the same, which isn't a bad thing- if it ain't broke don't fix it.

The graphics are pretty good and the visuals are breathtaking as expected from a PS4 game.

But it ain't the gameplay or the graphics that the fans, such as myself had bought the game. It was for Joel and Ellie. It was for their story that made "The Last of Us".

And the writers had butchered it.

The storytelling is horrendous. They tried to make "Abby", the game's "Antagonist", or another "Protagonist" (you can decide which one she is) likeable at all cost, which they miserably failed to do so. They tried to explain why she killed the game's most beloved character and then make us sympathise with her, but their attempts were so sloppy, that I only saw her as the "villain" who killed my favorite character.

The game tried to teach you a lesson that "revenge is bad" (Unless you're Abby, because she gets a free pass, apparently ), but of course, first, it will force you to go on a manhunt and commit mass murderer in order to exact your revenge on "Abby", only for Ellie to spare her at the end after sacrificing literally everything.

The story had also dumbed down most of the major characters. Mainly Joel. This is a character who was supposed to be an apocalyptic survival expert with over a decade of experience, but he just had to die in the dumbest way ever and that is by making an amateur mistake... Mind you, I am not specifically mad at the developers for killing Joel, I am mad for how poorly they executed it.

When you play a game, a good game, you don't want it to end. You want to keep going and you're playing with excitement and anticipation, wondering where the story is going to take you next. It wasn't like that with this game. After roughly about 3 hours of gameplay, I stopped caring. It felt like I was forcing myself through emotional torture while trying to convince myself "it will be worth it in the end".

    It really wasn't.

When it finally ended. I was left hollow. I was so disappointed that I didn't even want to look at the game ever again, I placed it at the back of my shelf to gather dust and lay forever forgotten. It's like a bad movie you can only watch once and don't want to talk about it after it's over.

7 years of waiting and this is what we get.

    Shame on you Naughty Dog.

The story, and narrative decisions made in this game are some of the worst decisions I've ever seen in a beloved video game series. The ending was awful, the decision to have the player play half the game as someone everyone hates, is astonishingly stupid. I cant drive home enough the amount of insanely horrible narrative choices were made in this game. Its unfortunate, I LOVED the first game, I have played it at least ten times, including Left Behind DLC which is also amazing. Neil Druckman ruined this game, and I am extremely sad about that. Don’t bash a game because it gives you emotion. I loved the game I just felt the beginning was very slow. The gameplay also got dull because of how long the game was, but the experience I had playing this game was a ride of emotions and truly a game to play. Don’t let the negative critics ruin the chance of playing this game.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. All whining about the story aside this was an enjoyable game. They improved the combat, the weapon options were more varied, added a couple new enemy types, and this should go without saying, but the graphics are stunning, I do not understand why being upset about the story legitimizes giving it such low scores as 3 or 0. This is by far not a bad game in any right, but yes I agree the story is poorly conceived and could have been taken back to the drawing boards. The way they killed Joel was poorly executed, especially if someone skipped the first game and just jumped into Part 2. I also think having the player switch off to Abby was a poor choice. My entire motivation through Ellie's initial journey to Seattle was to hunt down the people who killed Joel and get revenge. It takes that motivation and spits in your face when it turns over to controlling Abby. With this being said Abby somehow grew on me and I think gameplay wise she is a lot more fun. Her weapons are more badass, the hunting pistol was so fun for me to play with. I think my favorite thing they did was they improved the trophies for the game, the originals trophies were bad so seeing an improvement made me really happy. Adding the stalkers as an enemy type was genius. The first time meting them as Ellie was so tense. It delved straight into a survival horror feel so quick. Overall I really enjoyed the experience and if the story really affected you that bad I guess wait till its on sale if you haven't already purchased, but I think it well earned it's $60 price tag. There is tons of replay value, trophies to earn, and fun collectibles that are easy to miss. I rate it an 8.5, but I settled with 8 because the story was weak and Metacritic doesn't have decimals :/ Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I absolutely loved the game.
Even though the story is not as deep as the first game, this sequel prevails with a dark story worthy of a post-apocalyptic world. In this game we focus more on the world that the human has created after more than 20 years of outbreak day (as it is called in the game), the way in which the different clans and groups of people that have been created try to survive and thrive, and the general physical state of the world (which turns out to be beautiful). The graphics are impressive and the gameplay is very fluid and full of action.
Now the characters. The fact that you can see the two parts of the same story from different perspectives makes you understand a lot about the psychology of the characters and the people in general. Yes, Joel is brutally murdered. But in the end, everything is a consequence of the actions he did in the past (referring to the end of Last Of Us). It teaches us that in that world nobody will have a slight chance of a fair trial. It's the survival of the fittest at its finest. Both Ellie and Abby's actions are understandable, especially when you get into a game that creates a post-apocalyptic world on par with the TV series The Walking Dead.
Revenge takes little if not almost no importance in the end because both characters realize that there are other things to fight for in a world where anarchy reigns. Throughout the game you encounter infected (which after a long time in this imaginary world tend not to be as important as they were before), people with axes and hammers, clans as organized as the military itself, and men, women and children trying to survive. At this point you realize that when they told that you would get uncomfortable playing the game they were right. As Bill said beautifully in the first game: “You know, as bad as those things are, at least they’re predictable. it’s the normal people that scare me.”
Excellent game, I will play it again.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I just want to say, for everyone in the comments who said this game was anything lower than a 7 on this scale is jumping in the hate bandwagon. This game delivered on its promises, there is over 40 hours of game play 60 if its on hardest difficulty, people are angry because they killed Joel. Wtf did they expect? There has to be a big issue in any story and sometimes we can’t all win, there had to be loss and what greater loss than that? Imagine you’re Abby your father was murdered by some **** guy you have no connection to and you don’t know. You’d do the same in a world like that. People need to let go of the notion that every story has to accommodate what their idea of a “good story” is. Its tragic. Abby killed Joel in retaliation for Joel killing her father, Ellie killed all of her friends including a pregnant woman with an unborn child. There is blood for blood and both women are caught in a loop of revenge. Story development was good and you sympathize with Abby and Ellie because they both get a good amount of screen time. Its only fair you see abbys perspective because Ellie’s was all last game. Stop jumping on the hate wagon cuz ur favorite character died, grow the helm up. This story was emotionally charged and deeply disturbing on many levels and that’s what I love about naughty dog, they don’t back down. Complete masterpiece. I have it a 9 only because the story was great but the way it was presented was a bit of a mind **** that honestly could of been presented better. But the outcome was still incredible and I still cried and I felt 0 satisfaction in the end. Questions were answered but more questions came up and that’s how I like it. Can’t wait for part 3 I hope to not be waiting another 7 years!! Expand

Not everyone is going to enjoy the motives of The Last of Us Part II. But if you try and manage to accept the subliminal and not so subtle messages as a fact that the world has gone awry and that people have the need to have somewhere or someone to belong to as their own way out, then... You will witness the boundaries of gaming expand. You will witness a true masterpiece.
