The game is awesome from all perspectives, it may be that at some point you will not understand it completely but at the end all will be clear! And yes, once finished just start new game because it's fantastic go play! (P.s. it's the second game after Sekiro that gives me this sentiment)

Did you enjoy the smart, careful, pragmatic, untrusting hero of the first game? Well I hope you enjoy that character being dumb, careless, gullible, and beaten to death with a 9 iron within the first few hours of the game.

Gameplay and history are total garbage. Seriously, more than 10 hours of cutscenes?

Gameplay and graphics worse than games released years ago. I've played games of 2015 with more beautiful graphics and better scripts.

The script for this game is a bad joke. It was better to stop at the first game.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. OH MY GAWD ... False equivalencies much ? Joel does what he has to to save his daughter from death and the doctors daughter travels across the country years later and kills him in cold blood in front of his daughter. There wasn't a guarantee "the cure" would have worked and the doctor wouldn't have sacrificed his own daughter... ! I'm very disappointed by this sequel I've been looking forward to for years. TERRIBLE writing, horrible characters, they even managed to ruin Ellie.

The forced turns of events were really hard to take and then this horrible person through sympathetic sappy BS was the last straw. Perhaps i will finish this some day, i sure spent enough on it, but it wont be today. I cant believe i have buyers remorse on the sequel to my favorite game of all time. Shame on you Naughty Dog!

Gave 4 points for game play then took away 3 as im so disappointed i cant stomach playing it.

"Critics": ... Graphics, Lighting choices and bold sexual preference statements in "unexplored territories" have blinded your appreciation for what a video game should be. The story sucked, felt cheated but WOW did you see the lighting ?

The last of us part 2 has by far been a game that has touch me in so many ways. To feel so confused of my feelings for characters like this has been truly unique. I felt every blow and seen the enemy’s in the game as people not just plot devices. My hatred for Abby turned to love and watching her and Ellie fight was heart breaking and bold. I did not want Abby to die. So much emotion through out. Thank you for story based gameplay. I enjoyed the first game but I am in love with this one.Robert Simmons Expand

This is my third time revising a score and review that nobody will likely ever read. I have now finished the game.

I'm giving it a 6 because I'm averaging the 2 scores on game-play and story. Normally I would rank game-play as far more important than story but because this game is so story-driven and full of cinematic scenes, I think it should be weighed 50-50.

Starting with the story. I'm giving it a 4. It should be less but the visuals in this game are stunning, so that helps. I found the interactive cut-scenes overabundant and tedious but I'll acknowledge that some of them did manage to play with my heartstrings a bit, which is something. The whole guitar theme was too much. Seemed like they were really milking that one line from the first game about Joel teaching Ellie to play guitar. It felt forced. So did the lovey-dovey stuff in the first half. This game tries hard to contrast joy and suffering by having a lot of happy scenes spliced between the brutal game-play. It failed to be profound and just ended up being tacky at times. The unskippable cut-scene of Ellie serenading her girlfriend to "take on me" almost made me quit the game. I've heard a lot of people complain about various parts of the game but nobody seemed to be as offended as me by the tacky stuff like that. Seems like there is a lot of stuff to dislike about this game even if you don't have the same disagreements about the main direction of the story.

Here's the thing though: I really didn't like Abbey and I didn't want to play as her for as long as I did. She grew on me a little bit by the end of her segment though I'll admit. But dude, why did they feel the need to show me her bewbs? That sex scene was almost as bad as the "take on me" scene, but at least it was short and skippable. What's worse is that by the end of Ellie's arc, I disliked her more than Abbey. They also made me dislike Tommy. I get that they were trying to give her character layers and nuance and all that, but she was just irredeemable. What Joel did in the first game was selfish, but understandable. Throwing everything to the wind to try and kill someone who has already had 2 opportunities now and every reason to kill you but didn't, that's arguably just lazy writing. Story wise, the game should have ended sooner than it did. Not because it would have been a more happy story, but because it would have been a better story. The last act was pretty fun game-play wise though, so I'll give it that.

The game-play gets an 8. There are a lot of really awesome moments but if you don't have the willpower to get to the later parts of the game, you'd be temped to say that it's all the same repetitive encounters. I was playing in survivor mode, which made some moments super fun and riveting, but with such low ammo and item supply, I got flashbacks to the Arkham games, where you're slowly creeping around waiting for enemies to turn their backs and trying to memorize their movements. I like the Arkham games, but they are repetitive and tedious. There were some parts where I almost stopped playing because it seemed like I was just doing the same stealth challenges over and over, but I'm glad I kept going because there were definitely more rewarding moments sprinkled throughout.

The level design is impeccable. I prefer the richly detailed linear design to the bland open world environments that are currently plaguing most AAA games. The only thing I didn't like was sometimes you'd unknowingly advance to the next area and be unable to turn back unless you had created a manual save, which means you can leave behind key items that might have been stored in a safe, which is an obsessive completionist's nightmare.

I want to finish by calling out the people who are saying this game is being "review bombed" and implying that there is something wrong with that. These people paid money, and they deserve an opinion, regardless of whether or not that opinion is level headed. If it's not a reasonable opinion, they are entitled to it. Especially if they paid full price for the game, which most of them did. Paying money for a disappointing product is as good a reason and motivator as any to leave a scathing review. There were definitely moments in this game that I felt people were trying to check off items on a diversity quota. It wasn't that bad, and it didn't bother me much, but I definitely got that vibe more than once. It made me feel bad for the devs who were putting their heart and soul into creating riveting game-play mechanics to think that their colleagues were sitting around a desk deciding which character should be having conflicting thoughts about their gender roles and how they could tie that into the already convoluted story.

So the average of 4 and 8 is 6. This game gets a 6 because overall, it's just ok, pretty good even, but not a must-play. They should consider a mode where you can just choose which action sequences you want to play, like a "challenge mode".

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I got a few reasons for my score being zero.
Number 1. Everything what you loved about this game, the relation between Joel and Ellie will be gone within the first our of playtime. All the foundation you build up through the first game within the worlds strong atmosphere and set pieces, this really made it difficult for me to actually continue on playing.
Number 2. I actually played a lot of the multiplayer in the first game bsck on the PS3.
The abscense of a multiplayer makes it only worse. This game was so well crafted when it came to its dedicated MLG maps, progression system, weapon feel, playstyles, to some extend I considered this one of the better multiplayer games. My point is, even IF (hypothetically speaking) TLOU was a BAD GAME, I would have still been glued on my chair for its addicting multiplayer component. TLOU2 has no multiplayer so less content for the same money. I usually play games like Battlefield and Call of Duty competitive and if we had to rely on its single player completely, it would have been mediocre at best. Hence why the multiplayer does justice (those single players are plain trash I uaually like games like Darkness and Bioshock instead).
Number 3. In case you're a cuck who says "HaVe YoU pLaYeD iT?" stop humiliating and contradicting yourself. You don't need to play a game like E.T. for two hours to realise it's bad. The same applies for this game, and pretty any game really. You're not going to tell me that if you don't like a sports, racing, fighting game that I (anyone) have to play it for 10+ hours to form an opinion if I just have no interest in the core gameplay. Yes, in theory, the last three hours could be the best hours of your entire life. However, I did only feel pessimism at every second whenever I had to keep on playing what the writers did to Joel. I went back to the retailer why I was upset, and I got my money back. Now I'm stuck with a TLOU2 tophy list on one of my dummy accounts that I can never remove. It feels like a confrontation whenever someone can see this on my list. I really feel letdown by Naughty Dog. I played since I was very young both Crash Bandicoot and Jak and Daxter on my PS2 (PS2 is backwards compatible so no I didn't need a PS1 to play PS1 games), up until Uncharted 1, 2, 3, 4 and the first Last of Us.
Number 4.Yes, the game does function but it adds very little in comparison to ALL Naughty Dog games. So why bother having a game fhat really ruined the first game, and is inferior on many fundemental fronts. If you want a game like this that is actually good and recent, go with Uncharted 4, Last of Us 1, God of War 2018, just a few games that don't ruin your mood and really do praise to both old and new fans.

TL;DR; BAD STORY, FLAWED FUNDEMENTAL GAME, KILLED THE PART 1 PROTAGONIDT, BETTER ALTERNATIVES AVAILABLE, EXCLUSION OF MULTIPLAYER.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view.

The Last Of Us II.

Tomar no c***.

Resumindo, nos contaram uma piada e não a história de The Last Of Us II. É com muito pesar que digo: lamentável...

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The Last of Us Part II is technically maybe the best game ever created. The combat and the character progression are incredible. The graphics are amazing, a NaughtyDog classic mark, and the details of the maps are astonishing. The AI is improved from the first one and the enemies are very well developed. The sensation of hitting an enemy on the head with the bow is still incredibly fun. As I said, everything technically is great, but everyone who plays TLOU plays it because of its story, and this is the part we should talk about.

The beginning of the game reminds us the great story told on the first part, it is touching and exciting to see our favorites characters back again, especially on the guitar scenes. But the first problem appears with Joel. In the first part, Joel is skeptical, he distrusts everyone even Ellie in the beginning. But inexplicably he trusts in a stranger who is with her group, that they never heard about, in a camp beside their city. He and Tommy go there, and Joel is tortured and killed. But OK, although convenient, that is the motivation of the game. After that, Ellie parts in a journey of anger and revenge.
Ellie´s story is actually nice, until the middle of the game. You understand her anger and as she, you want to kill Abby no matter what. The exploring in Seattle is fun and the encounters with her enemies are brutal and emotionally incredible, it seems like you are living that with her. But then starts Abby´s story.

Before talking about Abby. I´d like to talk about the tsunami of politics implicit in the game. It seems like everything is about the politic opinion of the director. There are things forced and pass the limits in several times. Two girls having sex in the middle of a marijuana plantation in a house with a snowstorm in a zombie region, really? A girl who is discovering her sexuality, shaves her head and is pursued to the death by a religious cult (that is weirdly not explored at all in the game), like they have nothing better to worry about, like killing zombies, fighting for supplies, trying to survive a war with a highly armed rivals. Of course, homophobia is a problem in our society, but the game explores it in a wrong perspective, nothing is educative or awareness, it is all provocative and brutal. None of it is putted in the game in a soft way or scripturally convincing, everything is pushed, forced in an unnatural way. It looks like it was made to please a minor radical part of the society. Honestly, we don´t need this right now, our society is completely divided. Everything is politicized, even the brand of toilet paper. This is bad. Politics discussions are not healthy today, they are toxic and hurtful. Nobody will change their mind after playing TLOU II, it will only generate hate.
In the first game, homosexually was treated in a perfect way. We know for seven years that Ellie is a lesbian and nobody cares, in the contrary, everybody loves her. Just because it is natural, the script is well written and it is logical that she be that way, just like Bill. In this game homosexually is treated in a provocative way, with nothing corroborating to the story, it is there just to provoke and stir up fights, adding nothing to the story. But enough of this political ****

Now, Abby´s story. In short it is like in Harry Potter you being Voldemort. He has his reasons and, in his way, he would appear right, but it does not mean he is the hero or the good guy. It is not cool playing her side. I understand the view that the developers wanted to show, but it is not nice. The characters on this side are forgettable, with no charisma, boring. And the worst part, We have to hit Ellie, WE HAVE TO TRY TO KILL ELLIE!!! WTF??? She is a symbol of a generation, millions of people around the world loves her, we watched her growing up. I don´t want to kill her, I don´t want to play that part ever again. Maybe Abby´s part could be a DLC, I don´t know, but it just not seems right.
Well, finally, the end of the story is at best disappointing. It is nice seeing Ellie living with Dina on an incredible ambiance, but the second part of the journey is nothing but a **** conclusion. At the end of the game, including both journeys (Seattle and St. Barbara), Ellie kills HUNDREDS of people, most of them INNOCENTS, hundreds of infected and several DOGS to arrive at the beach and LET ABBY GO. WTF?? In short, everything you do in the game, everyone that dies in the game, EVERY 30 **** HOURS YOU SPEND PLAYING THIS **** IS POINTLESS!!!
    At the end:
    Joel dies
    Jesse dies
Tommy is **** up and lost his marriage
    Ellie doesn´t end with Dina
    Ellie doesn´t get her revenge
    Ellie can´t play guitar anymore.

OK, I was not hoping for a good end, but I was not hoping to be so disappointed with this game, that I´ve waited for 7 years.

Congratulations NaughtyDog, for the worst story you ever made

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Towards the end of the game I found myself just rushing through the different areas on easy mode, because I got bored by the repetitive gameplay a lot and just wanted to finish the story. The search for Tommy, which makes almost half of the game, is packed with boring detours and grinding for material in houses or basements. The game at some points is really bloated and makes you do everything twice, thrice, and so on. The enemy encounters are somehow always the same and differ only very small parts. I found no motivation to make my way through the Scars' or Wolfes' camps like the developers intended to as clearing out those camps was not even necessary to move forward in the story. Sneaking, waiting, attacking, watching a way too long stealth kill cutscene (yes, I know you could shorten it by skilling, but why would I spend my pills on that skill?), looting, crafting, and in the next area I had to do the same. It was just a convenient method to give the player something to do and maybe to hide that there is only little substance with regard to the storytelling. Rushing through without killing anybody remained without consequences, so I kept looking for a purpose of my actions. I found also very very annoying that you almost made it to your point of interest and then - suddenly - you dropped into a river or fell down many floors so that you'd have to go there again, but just another way this time. Killing off the minor characters frequently (Jesse, Yara, Danny, ...) wore off at some point as if Naughty Dog just wanted to highlight how cruel their storytelling can be, but it was rather pointless. And compared to TLOU Part 1 it indeed was in many ways. I always thought that Game of Thrones' Littlefinger was the only character in the world that could beam from point A to B in minutes without context.
Yes, the presentation of the game is phenomenal, but it's something that I take for granted when it comes to an AAA title. In the end it is also very easy to praise the details of the landscape or houses because they somehow looked all the same. There was only little variation. Almost every house had the same cupboards, the same kitchen, the same bathroom, it looked like a copy & past design, which is another aspect that bored me.
As for the story I quickly lost my connection to Ellie and never established one to Abby.
I am also very disappointed by the developers praise that we would have to endure the consequences of Ellies decisions and actions. That's what they said many times in a short 5 minute clip prior to the release of the game. Turned out that this was simple marketing nonsense. The game itself made the decision, I never got to decide anything. And what decisions in life do not cause consequences? Whatever you do, it will have a result. Like developing a boring and repetitive game causes players' frustration.

The Last of Us Part II is the high point of the PlayStation 4. The plot is controversial, but the game is the incredibly addictive adventure of Ellie, from which it is impossible to pull away from the opening and to the very end.

Not everyone is going to enjoy the motives of The Last of Us Part II. But if you try and manage to accept the subliminal and not so subtle messages as a fact that the world has gone awry and that people have the need to have somewhere or someone to belong to as their own way out, then... You will witness the boundaries of gaming expand. You will witness a true masterpiece.

If you loved the original for its great characters and well-paced story – stay away from this game. However, if you’re aching to sink into the depths of depression, or just want to cut some throats and burn some zombies – Part II will deliver. [Issue#247, p.72]
