This game could have been another generic revenge story, where you could easily assume the outcome from the very beginning. But instead, The Last of Us Part 2 is one of the most unique and compelling revenge stories ever told in a video game.

Though not a masterpiece, this is still a very good game, and I intend to play through it a few more times. Expand

The Last of Us 2 is a Masterpiece but I hate it. TLOU 2 is a technical powerhouse pushing the PS4 to its limits. Graphics are phenomenal, gameplay is unparalleled. Didn't think they'd top the first game, but they did. A beautiful swan song for the PS4, just like the first one was for the PS3. When the dust settles, 10 years from now, the consensus will be that this game is a masterpiece, which it is. Groundbreaking often doesn't look like groundbreaking when it happens, but this is it.

The story is so Polarizing i think the fact that the people are so divided its exacly why it didnt delivered at some point i lost my objective. Abby story should have been some sort of a diff game or dlc i wouldn't mind getting to know her more but all i really wanted was more Joel and Ellie thats pretty much it. Expand

This game doesn't deserve a 10 by any means, it deserves a 7 just like IGN Japan did.

I am trying to socre to make a rigt average, this game is overpraised or overated by the journalists, specially from USA.

Fantastic game. Ignore the 0’s, many come from people who haven’t even played the game. Incredible animations and gameplay, great graphics. The world is beautiful and immersive and I had a great time exploring it. Story can be divisive and controversial, but I think as a whole the game is great.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I loved the first Last of Us, so much so that I have a tattoo themed for this franchise but this game was a train wreck. The story was a contrived mess. Spent most of the time trying to make the gamer like the most unlikable character since Micah Bell. Only this time Micah Bell walks away Scott free. The only thing this game had going for it was the graphics. Absolutely destroyed Ellie’s character for Abbys. What a mess. Expand

THE LAST OF US is a masterpiece. The naughty dog, as usual, enriches the scene in such a way that it is worth stopping the campaign for a while and “traveling” around the map. Gorgeous graphics, surreal lighting. Although many are not speaking well of the plot, the game perfectly portrays life in an apocalyptic setting. A game that is worth every penny and every second played.

I’m not mad Joel died, well I am but I wouldn’t give a bad review for that. I’m mad that they decided that not killing Abby was ok! Joel was like a dad to me when I played the last of us so me as Ellie wanted to see her die! I didn’t want to play as Abby but again that’s not affecting my score it’s straight up the ending. Joel deserves better and naughty dog should at least acknowledge that Expand

The game as a sequel to the original that we all came to love, Last of Us Part 2 betrays the fans by destroying what the first game built. As much as I would have wanted to go in the game open-minded, it wasn't easy, as moments in the story are so confusing and irritating that it is too distracting. As a fan of the original, I knew that someone important was going to die, but to kill them off at the start before we get to experience in this new game, it is more than disappointing. This game gets some things right and some wrong. The first good thing about this game is the visuals and the scenery. The environments look real, the facial animations look incredible, the animations, in general, look amazing. This game took a first good step in the next generation but that's about it. The narrative of this game is close to pointless. In the first half of the game, you get to play as Ellie, where you are introduced to the mechanics and the characters. You make your way to Seattle to try to find Abby, the other "protagonist" of the story to seek revenge, as she did for her father. You end up killing all her friends, who had a pretty insignificant impact to the story and the game and then you transition to the second half of the story, where you get to play as Abby. In the second half of the game, you are given another perspective to the story, from Abby's point of view. You get to see the characters from flashbacks that are shown previously to all the events that occur in the 1st half of the game. All characters in this game are thrown in the game for some sort of companionship more so than the relationship that you got in the first game. People come in the game and die not that long after with no real emotion from the character that you play. Two characters which I think that Naughty Dog got somewhat right is Yara and Lev, the two scars which are being hunted down from their own cult for breaking the laws. Unlike most of the other characters, you are given some backstory from both of them as you progress through the game which is welcoming at first, but just like everyone else in the game they don't last, so Yara is killed eventually in a horrific way. As you enter the final hours of the game, you kind of think to yourself was this even worth it. Close to finishing the game, you play as Ellie hunting down Abby for what she did as she still has those awful nightmares relating to Joel's death. Just before you get to kill Abby on that beach, Ellie changes her mind and tells Abby to leave. You then go back to the house which you lived in after Day 3 in Seattle and you reminiscence of the events that occurred before Joel's death. You end up on a note which is quite awkward and pointless. You just played 25 hours of a game which constantly spat at your face for the sake of violence. Violence wasn't a thing which bothered me, but it happened way too often for some sort of emotional impact. The characters in this game came in and left pretty quickly. The story is nothing like the first, where you spent time with the main cast and grown to love them pretty quickly. A sequel wasn't necessary but if it would have happened, people would be happy and excited as they got to spend more time with the main characters. This game is nothing but disappointing throughout the 25 hours which you get to play, with gameplay same to the first's which isn't something terrible but would have expected something fresh and new to the formula. If I was to rate this game based on its technical and visual aspects, it would get a 10 for graphics and visuals and 5 for gameplay. I think the game had many things going for it, and I understand if they couldn't top the original but a better and effort would have been appreciated. A lot of people who hate on this game are usually criticised for being either a homophobe or sexist for the pure fact that you ain't focusing on Joel, and I think that isn't the problem here. The fact that the characters you are spending time with are so emotionless and have no real character development from the start to the end of the story is really why people don't like this game. Just hated the direction they took the story in . Yes the graphics are amazing but I was just too upset by the story telling to enjoy. Incredibly unsatisfying ending didn't help much either.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Hands down best video game I’ve ever played. The character development of Ellie and Abby was so innovative and nothing I have seen before. Seeing how Ellie’s actions effected Abby made the entire game so much more real. It allowed the player to see both sides of the story and the consequences of Ellie’s choices when they otherwise wouldn’t be given a second thought. Expand

The Last of Us Part II is the high point of the PlayStation 4. The plot is controversial, but the game is the incredibly addictive adventure of Ellie, from which it is impossible to pull away from the opening and to the very end.

Not everyone is going to enjoy the motives of The Last of Us Part II. But if you try and manage to accept the subliminal and not so subtle messages as a fact that the world has gone awry and that people have the need to have somewhere or someone to belong to as their own way out, then... You will witness the boundaries of gaming expand. You will witness a true masterpiece.

If you loved the original for its great characters and well-paced story – stay away from this game. However, if you’re aching to sink into the depths of depression, or just want to cut some throats and burn some zombies – Part II will deliver. [Issue#247, p.72]
