I was really disappointed when the leaks came out and even more disheartened by Naughty Dog and Sony's action in dealing with those leaks. But, I still wanted to give the game a chance and see it in its entirety for myself.

    PROS:
    1. The graphics is top-notch.
    2. The cutscenes and voice acting is really good.
    3. The gameplay, though not really anything new or innovative, was still solid.

    CONS:
    1. The story and its direction.
    2. The characters and how they were portrait or lack there of.
    3. The story plot of revenge doesn't make any sense at the end.
    4. The entire setup and ending from part 1 was destroyed and disregarded in the first few hours.
    5. Everything in the trailers were a misrepresentation of the game.
    6. This game was more like a movie than a video game.

Overall, I did not enjoy the game. The story, it's direction, its pace and the direction of its characters were not enjoyable. The creator of the game said, there's no "fun" in this. And they were right. This game is not fun to play.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Spoiler I am a huge fan of the original game, got every trophy and consider it my favorite game. But The Last of Us Part 2 ruined the franchise for me. I admit i am only half way through the game and I am not mad they killed Joel, what I am mad about is how how they did it. He died out of character. He was always someone who was skeptical of strangers and tried his best to stay out of situations like he was in. But in part 2, he just walked right into a room knowing he probably has people looking for him after how many people he's killed in the past. Not only that but part 2 make you play as the person who kills Joel.... **** that. Every time I controlled Abby, i just wanted to quit the game. The only feeling I had for her was HATE. The things the game did good on, Graphics, kept the combat the same while introducing more variables to keep it interesting. But the pace was very off. There were too many collectibles and slow moving parts to keep the story interesting. Expand

Sin embargo en lo que flaquea mucho es en la historia y en los personajes, parece más the walking dead que the last of us, digamos bueno ya matan a Joel que la verdad estuvo super mal, ¿al final Ellie vengará su muerte no?! Pues ... No! We waited this to fulfill our longing but you killed main character third hour of game. OK, you can kill main character but it shouldn't be easy like that, eventually he is the master of this environment, era. In addition, you introduced us new characters but really are we supposed to sympathize Abby? She was cruel. We passed all places to kill Abby and we mercied at the end. I am disappointed,. I wish I had not bought the game.

Niel ruined it, Joel died for a meaningless shock value. They did terrible writing and made characters just for the hell of it.

Niel, you ruined the last of us, why did you do that?

Ellie lost her character, she did not progress, it was just a revenge story.. not like the last game where you had a game entered around the character's building up their relationship. I'm done, f this. But on a positive note, the graphics where good.

The next 10 or so hours, the gameplay and story actual becomes very exciting and engaging, the pace climbs to what feels like the climax and then.. you are brought back and all that building fizzles away. For the next 10 hours of the game you are forced to push yourself through one of the most tedious character arks of any game i have ever played. All combat had zero anxiety or stress as there is no incentive to want to survive. By the end of it you are forced to destroy everything you cherished from the first game. After all that you have to experience the longest finales of any game (seriously think lord of the rings extended edition level of ending) only to be left with zero closure, zero replay value and a sad feeling of waste as the game managed to prove multiple times that it could have been great. The Last of Us is my favourite game of all time so I was excited for the sequel, even though I got spoiled about one of the major events. This event sounded questionable but I decided to wait for context like many of the critic reviews said to before I judged it. My thoughts on the game overall by the end was graphics 10/10, gameplay 9/10, story 3/10. The story just killed my enjoyment of The Last of Us Part 2 completely. It is so terribly written. There are some good moments, which is why the story gets a 3 and not a 0 but they in no way make up for the awful story choices that are made. Joel's relationship with Ellie is spat upon, characters make ridiculous choices, and the mystery woman, played by Laura Bailey, is, in my opinion, one of the worst video game character of all time. This character and the way she is portrayed is one of the big reasons why the story is so bad. Not only that but the ending is just awful. It completely undoes the message they were trying to tell and makes everything feel pointless. Again, the graphics and gameplay are amazing, but I just did not want to replay the game and witness such a terrible story. I returned the game yesterday. 4/10. The graphics, gameplay and some story elements are good but since the overall story is so important to The Last of Us Part 2 , and most of that story is horrible, I had to give it a 4. Now, whenever I replay the original The Last of Us, I am going to have to pretend that this never happened. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I genuinely thought about giving it a 0 score, but the game actually serves its purpose of entertaining, since the mechanics, gameplay, graphics and the feeling of survival is well presented.

However, the disappointment is huge on the story, since Naughty Dog didn't just killed one of the most loved videogame characters in the last decade, but they literally spat on his corpse, not to mention that they forced us to play the second half of the game as a character we don't care about at all, and to top it, they want us to empathize with her and almost kill Ellie just because.
Of course, this was a game about vengeance, so it doesn't make any sense that Ellie forgives Abby in the end, since she already lost Dina, her integrity and killed hundreds just to stop over a dumb flashback.

They made a wonderful story in the first game, but this sequel is just a joke and craps on everything good this series had.

    Great videogame, TERRIBLE story.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. If Arthur Morgan was killed by Micah halfway through Red Dead 2 and I was forced to play as Micah afterward, I would have immediately stopped playing and done something else. I don't care how wonderful the game looks, technically sound it is, or enjoyable the gameplay is; the predecessor to this game was about the strong narrative and the characters. The sequel has little to do with the events from the previous game and nothing to do with the journey Joel's character went through as the protagonist. I can't help but think that Neil Druckman resented the fact that most fans of The Last of Us liked Joel the most, because his character was really done a disservice here. I also dislike the way this whole cycle of violence story is told. In a game like God of War, you have similar themes of revenge and violence, but Kratos is making an effort to change and to teach his son to be a better man than he was, while making plenty of mistakes along the way. This game, on the other hand, just bludgeons you with violence, cruelty and misery without any levity because cycle of violence. The conclusion for Ellie's character was just as unsatisfying and nonsensical as Joel's. I truly hope this trend of deconstructive storytelling doesn't destroy any more of the characters I'm invested in. Expand

I was a big fan of Naughty Dog. I finished all episode of Uncharted (except the one on PSV) and I really love the uncharted series. I also finished the last of us part 1 because I really like how Naughty Dog told story despite that I am not a fan of horror movies and games. And therefore I spent $69.99 to pre-ordered the Digital Deluxe Edition of this game. HOWEVER, this game make me doubt if I am going to buy Uncharted 5 (presuming they will make Uncharted 5).

3 Point for the good graphic, 1 point for the average game-play, 0 point for the terrible story.

The story is terrible. They show no respect to the characters that the players love so much in part 1. And they show no respect to the players by forcing you to play as a character, who you will hate after witnessing what happen in the game, for over 10 hours.

In the last of us part 1, even if you do not think Joel's choice is correct, you can understand why he did that. Here, it is difficult for you to understand why the characters will do such thing in the story. Their behaviors did not fit in their characters. Sometime they behaviors even conflict with their other behaviors in the same game, and there are no ground for the changes.

    I am very disappointed.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I want to get this out upfront: my major problem with the game is that I was forced to play half of it as a character I didn’t care about at all and that I felt nothing for. The entire time I was just hoping I could go back to playing as Ellie. And you do come back to her—after 10 plus hours as Abby. Don’t get me wrong, I’m not against new characters but I don’t think we needed a new playable one. In fact, I love Jesse, Dina, Yarra, and Lev. They all felt much easier to connect to than Abby, who feels like a weird attempt at an “Ellie 2.0,” just more physically imposing and less emotionally impactful. I’ve heard a few people say they loved Abby but that’s a sentiment that I personally can’t share. Similarly, I didn’t much care about Abby’s group of WLF friends; Owen felt one dimensional and he and Abby’s relationship didn’t resonate for me, likely due to a lack of chemistry between the actors. I never really connected to Mel or Manny either. Manny felt like the most charismatic but seeing him spit on Joel’s dead body kind of ruined any chance he had of winning me over. Let me also say this: I don’t mind that Joel died. I would, however, have liked to have seen it executed better for a more meaningful impact. A lot of the death in this game happens really quickly and then is kind of brushed over; I can’t tell you how frustrating it is to connect to Jesse only to have him shot in the face in a split second after walking through a door. I understand that this is supposed to convey a sense of reality; you don’t always see death coming and it can happen in an instant, no matter the context. But this is fiction and these are potentially great characters thrown away too soon for what feels like shock value. If we weren’t supposed to suspend our disbelief when it comes to death in video games then Joel falling on a rebar and living wouldn’t have worked in the first Last of Us. So why are fantastic characters dropping like flies only to let this bland one walk away at the end? To be fair, this game had some great moments, most of them in the first half. Ellie and Dina’s relationship has been my favorite in games, and media in general, in a long time. The natural chemistry they have and the incredible voice acting by Ashley Johnson and Shannon Woodward makes you feel for these characters the way we felt for Joel and Ellie in the first game. Troy Baker also does a phenomenal job, especially in the final flashback scene of the game where Joel is breaking down but fighting to hold himself together. You could feel the nuance in every voice crack, sigh, and sniffle. The thematic song thread Joel introduces at the beginning tugged at my heartstrings and every time it came back up throughout the story I could honestly feel a small bit of the first game’s spirit creeping into this sequel. The same can be said for the incredible Ellie and Joel flashback moments, each one giving us a glimpse at what we missed in the five year time jump between Part 1 and now. The game is undeniably visually stunning; the art direction is fantastic and every environment is unique and fascinating, down to the lighting. The gameplay is revamped and slightly expanded, allowing the player new methods of movement like a prone option for stealth and crevices to squeeze through to escape infected or get the drop on an enemy. The combat feels good and the impact is definitely felt with every punch you take and each one you deal. Shooting is more or less the same as the first game with bullet drop (and arrow drop). The upgrade paths are great but with the story split between two characters it’s seemingly impossible to upgrade everything in one go unless you have your resources setting set to “very light” so the game basically gives you loot everywhere you go. There is a new game plus option to keep all your upgrades while you play through again but I honestly don’t see myself playing more than once. I’m just not interested in sitting through Abby’s story a second time, not to mention the contrived plot points that exist solely to move the story in this specific direction. I personally don’t understand why this game is getting 10/10 scores or being touted as a “masterpiece.” Half of it was great—the other half felt like one of those movies that has you checking your watch every couple minutes. As this is a story-driven game, I have to dock a couple points at least for a poorly executed story with really good highlights. The gameplay is by far the best part but the fun of it is hindered when you don’t feel invested while playing as someone other than Ellie. Which, again, is half the time. I hope they end the franchise here because I just can’t see it regaining that spark that made it so special to begin with. Or next time just let me play as Ellie, please, for God’s sake. Expand
