I think the story is a bit to depressive and not much going on. Moviescene are to long. But great gameplay and scary scenarios. Also did not like the lineair gameplay but thats just my taste. Would have been nice if player could influence the story with choices.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Full disclosure, I wasn't the hugest fan of the first game so that may change your opinion of my review.

The Last of Us 2 is no where near a bad game. Its completely understandable to not like this game for the story it decided to tell, but to say that the writing is objectively horrible holds no merit. The pacing of Abby's day 1 was extremely slow and took some of the excitement away from me, but it was soon made up for with the addition of Lev and Yara. I've played through this game twice and I'm personally still on the Abby sucks train, but the game does a good job of using Lev to humanize her. His addition to the story made me see Abby as a extremely flawed human being rather than a comically unforgivable villain. I don't think the story ever necessarily asks you to like Abby. Mel's feelings about Abby is more than enough to show that.

I think if the game was structured a bit different, playing both Abby's and Ellie's journey through Seattle side by side like they did in the Jackson chapter of the game, would've helped improve the pacing. Instead we get a jarring switch of perspectives in the middle of the climax, taking away from the tension of the moment.

Although the ending was not what I would have wanted, I'm not disappointed with it. I would've preferred a happy ending, Ellie staying with Dina and JJ on the farm and learning to cope and hopefully find peace within herself. Instead we get a much more depressing ending with Ellie ending up alone. I don't need all my games to have happy endings, but when a game is filled to the brim with heartbreaking and depressing moments, it should end on a happy note to avoid feeling like torture porn.

Despite the games shortcomings, I enjoyed my time with it and am looking forward to future Naughty Dog releases.

Pero, su historia es muy poco original, es la típica historia de "venganza", igual no se debería llamar venganza porque al final no la habrá, entonces es tiempo perdido Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This game has a lot going for it and a lot going against it. You have naughty dog doing what they do best and that’s gameplay, visuals, voice acting, movie like cutscenes with great mocap and character design at least in my opinion and the rest are facts honestly. But this story gets in the way of that because of the disorganization of who you play as and naughty dog made like the most Oscar bait game ever made. There’s a lot of points where they try to show off how cool the visuals are which I get but it happens way to often. Now I’ll start off with the disorganization first. By now I think everyone knows Joel dies in this game and it happens within the first two hours and I honestly thought it was done pretty well for how graphic and disturbing the torture was. But you play as Ellie for 10 hours after killing like Ellie does and for me I didn’t feel bad whatsoever. Worst I felt was when I was forced to kill any dog in the game. But after you play as Abby with a huge cut to basically meet back up to the end of the game and play the next 12 hours as her. For me I was so disinterested in Abby because of what she did to Joel and I just wanted Ellie to get vengeance. If anything it should’ve been switched because it makes no sense to feel for these characters that kill an important character and you don’t like them until 50% into the game. And at the end of abbys storyline you end up fighting Ellie in a very intense scenario that’s done really well but I didn’t want to win because i was still too attached to Ellie and honestly I think everyone thinks that. But instead you beat the crap out of Ellie and also stab her pregnant love interest which could’ve been good but naughty dog is trying so hard to make you feel something it ultimately resulted into disappointment. Plus I know there’s a group of people that hate the game because there’s a trans character in the game, it didn’t bother me really but I felt it was really on the nose and could’ve been done a lot better. The fact that no one says “trans” in the game is kind of nice but I honestly kind of find it hard to believe that anyone would really care what gender someone wanted to be in the post apocalyptic world. Like I would think people would care about ya know, like literally anything else going on but it is basically a cult that makes the character ostracized so idk. Plus could’ve been delve into deeper if they really wanted that to make sense, to me it just felt really on the surface and naughty dog just wanted to pretend this somehow isn’t just allyship on display. And that’s what I meant by Oscar bait. You can just feel someone saying “this is art” when either the random sex scene happens that could easily cut away or when the trans character appears and talks about the most surface level issue of being an outsider, or seeing that there’s a ton of diversity within the cast of characters throughout the game or whatever it is. As if something like Super Mario Odyssey isn't because it’s just some silly platformer that doesn’t deal with any dark themes and doesn't have these forward thinking ideas to put diverse characters in the game. But all of that aside, I would still say I liked the game and I’d still recommend it because the good outweighs the bad. If I could give this game a 7.5 I would because I feel that’s more appropriate of a score compared to an 8 or 7. And especially more accurate than people saying a 0-5. As if they somehow forgot how good the gameplay and everything else is other than the story. But overall, buy it when it goes on a decent sale. You don’t need to play it, but it’s still a recommendation none the less. Expand

    Positives:

The technical elements in this game are seriously outstanding:

The level design complements the somewhat basic but functional gameplay very well. For a linear game, the level designers did everything in their power to give players tense encounters with different approaches, options and generous environmental layouts to play with. The levels are consistently open and natural-feeling without reminding you that it's mostly linear. There's good level variety alongside some impressive set-pieces that never felt out-of-place thematically.

The seamless animation work is truly next-gen. Combat and movement animations, motion capture, lip-sync, facial animations, and the sense of emotion conveyed through them is industry-leading, and will likely be for many years.

The world lighting, foliage density, detail density, overall graphical presentation, and cutscene presentation all break the boundaries of anything done before it, especially on current console hardware.

There's a clear focus on attention to detail with everything being so meticulously detailed with subtle finishing touches here and there, which is really impressive with how consistent it is. Especially in a game of this scale.

Finally, the sound design in the sense of ambiance/environment, reverberation/space, impact and feedback are all top notch. The strong choice of acoustic soundtrack really sells the art direction, thematic moments, and the feeling of authenticity.

    Constructive Criticism:

The story and its themes could've been better presented with an emphasis on select characters being more meaningful. At a glance, there are simply TOO MANY characters which made it impossible to develop them all, or even half of them in meaningful ways.

Similarly, the amount of unfinished subplot bloat could be trimmed down, making room to explore some of the more interesting subplots that were unfinished or underdeveloped.

Plot points and characters also at times have an artificial "forced" quality to them, with unjustified actions that aren't expanded upon; The story rarely "flows" as it should. These jarring moments in particular can be attributed to poor story planning and writing.

Lastly, there are too many harsh jumpcuts with the needlessly hectic timeline that often ruins the pacing of the game and dumbfounds the audience. This approach of storytelling makes it difficult to feel attached or invested when you already know the eventual outcome of what happens. This should be kept to a minimum when writing a coherent story, as it also ruins any possibility of suspense.

Some of the best moments in the game are where the events progress chronologically and manage to provoke suspense, and the moments where there's sections of character-building and world-building. This is all indicative that more of these moments are desperately needed in the game.

    Summary:

Overall, the technical marvels of this game is not put to good use when it tunnel-visions a shallow theme that ultimately rings hollow and isn't very meaningful at the end of the game.

Many people including myself would've wanted to explore the more intriguing aspects of apocalyptic society in The Last of Us' universe, instead of the story we got in Part II.

I also enjoyed a lot of the story, but not the parts I originally thought I would.
The game is split between two perspectives. You've got Ellie's first, then Abby's. I ended up enjoying the second half of the game more than the first. In fact, if the game only focused on Abby's campaign, it would have been stronger. Other than the infamous scene in the beginning of the game, Ellie's route didn't really make me feel any kind of way and I had a hard time caring about her companions. Dina didn't have as much depth as I would have hoped, and I quickly got more attached to Abby's companions.
The game-play in Ellie's route became very repetitive and boring after a while, where is Abby's seemed to kick up the pace a lot.
The biggest issue I had with the story was the epilogue. I can see what the writer's were trying to go for, but it left me feeling kind of sad.
There was a lot going on in this game, almost like they were trying do too much at once. It felt like two different games combined into one. Because of this some things aren't as fleshed out as i would of liked, such as a couple of the factions.

All in all it's a solid game, I definitely plan on replaying it. It doesn't live up to the first's reputation, but if you're a fan of the series I think it's worth a shot. Just be prepared for it to yank on your heartstrings.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I must say, the game is a masterpiece graphically and animation-wise, but the story, its too much...
Many people say its amazing, some terrible, the only reason i gave it a 7 was because its a 5 for the story and 9 for the graphics and visuals, meaning a 7 average. The first game is literally my favorite game of all time. This took the first games ideology of characters, and threw it in the trash.. The game relies WAY too much on looking for notes and writings to give story details instead of giving us the details up front. I agree a game shouldn't spoonfeed us details, but about half of all the games story is taken into writings and notes instead of actual dialogue. They focused so much on us liking Abby that we barely got to see character development from Ellie and Dina, even Tommy too. For tommy to survive a bullet to the back of the head (and exits the other side) its actually the dumbest thing the game could do in my opinion. The game needed Tommy alive, but realized he was underused so they put him into the situation that "killed him" then he survived. It's a mix of emotions, but it never should have happened. Abby and her friends are focused on too much for most peoples liking. The games message is that there are 2 sides to every story, and revenge isnt the answer, but guess what? We didn't like Abbys side to the story, and the entire game is based on revenge you never get. The ending is an obvious bridge into a part 3 that it takes emotional progression out. The death of Joel was poorly done, and ive heard the argument "yes he would say who he was, hes changed since the last game." But people forget that its only a 4 year gap between the games, and that the infections been out for 24+ years at that point, so what happened in those 4 years that made joel turn into a super helpful, honest person?? Yes, Jackson way have been different, but the point that they gave away names, location of Jackson, and their supplies away to strangers makes no sense whatsoever. The game has many plot holes in it too.. too many to count. The ending wasn't anything special, it made us hate the ending, which i believe thats what they were going for, but its no excuse to make a bridge into part 3, and completely disregard the entire story of Part 2 before that. Dina risked her life so many times and Ellie helped her so many times, but for what? Another thing is why do the developers expect us to like the long second half of the game (mainly Abby)?? It's filled with boring cutscenes, irrelevant puzzles, and helping out Seraphites for no reason other than they saved her. It broke my heart playing the game the first time, I had to play it again to see if i missed anything and if i was going crazy that they truly did this to a what-could've-been amazing series. The people who find this game to be a masterpiece lie to you, deny flaws, and crap on any opinions against the game, which is another dealbreaker for me. This could've been game of the decade, but instead they went and took any love for the series and threw it out the window. This game IS NOT for the casual gamer, for it asks way too much of you, takes up too much time, makes you forget scenes because it will have a flashback or something else right when conflict reaches a peak, or just doesn't focus on the story. You have to be attentive to this game 24/7 to catch every detail you need. I beg to anyone who decides to play this game to please not deny the flaws, for criticism is the only way we will be able to see improvements in the next game. Thank you

Gameplay tlou was Great nice over kill i enjoyed killing the Dogs pretty nice stuff, very fun killing infected
GOT was fun pretty nice creative ways to deal with enemy as well. although i did find it repetitive at times it gave me for honor vibes but still fun 10/10 for both Games

    Reasons why people like GOT
nice Game, good Graphics, Great story, The surroundings are engaging since its open world .
    Reasons people like tlou 2
Dark story it will help ellie character development in the future or a dark side was needed while i see the tributes of ellie and joel i start liking the story somewhat but my opinion of abby hasn't change i personally don't like her character but i do admit she is cool her finishers are bad ass but personally i don't feel any emotion towards abby dads death. i'm ok he died or her friends died.
she does have some of joel's move like in the first game but thats't about it only like able character for abby's side is lev

Reason people don't like tlou 2
The fact ellie lost her finger or The fact ellie let abby alive or the fact that joel act different for plot or for a stupid dum reason "I dont wanna kill dogs, oh she kill a pregnant lady".
or others just wanna jump on the tlou 2 meme or for the leaks i saw the leaks.
and also cuz the story was a little messy there were parts that should of been different and scenes that should of been different like when ellies story was getting good we jump into abby that kill the mood

My honest rate for tlou 7/10 story is good but would't say is a happy master piece its mostly a sad masterpiece still good ass game tho

I hated playing as abby and beating the **** outta Ellie. But he game has so many good sides and those made tha game enjoyable to me. The gameplay - It’s also pretty good but it can be bad at some times.
The Characters - Designs are really good, there is a lot of detail on the Character designs.
Now let’s talk about what really went downhill to this game. I really enjoyed the game at the start. I know that Joel dying is terrible but I already saw it coming before all the leaks. The thing that pisses me off the most, is the ending. The fact that Ellie went through so much, had to kill so many people, even killed a baby, traveled so much, had some of her friends killed in the journey by Abby, and finally at the end, Ellie has her hands on Abby. She now could easily kill Abby. She was about to drown Abby. But guess what. She decides to let her go. FOR WHATEVER REASON..... LIKE LITERALLY YOU WENT THROUGH SO MUCH SH*T JUST TO NOT KILL JOEL’S KILLER AT THE END? Neil Druckmann, I thought this game was about revenge? Or is it not? So disappointed.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Alright, just finished part 2... yes, I was crying like a little girl when Joel died during the FIRST 3 HOURS!! of the game (just fuken bananas). I really tried to give this game a chance, like I really wanted to find out where the story would take me since Joel had just been bludgeoned to death in front of Ellie (even now that sounds unbelievable)... So I did. I gave this game a chance. At first I was totally confused as to why I was playing as Abby???? Like, ok this is new, I'm supposed to build an emotional bond with this character I suppose (all the while thinking about Joel). I cried in this game, many times. I really wanted to love this game, and honestly I do. I think Part 2 is about growing up. Abby went from WLF back to her roots as a Firefly and found redemption by saving Lev. Ellie... she finally grew up out of the shadow of Joel (in the most cruel way possible), and she found peace with herself in the end. It was Joel's image that stopped her from killing Abby. I believe Ellie found peace and it cost her everything, her two guitar playing fingers, her girlfriend (with the big booty) and even a new baby. At least Tommy (sooooo happy he was alive, crippled by alive) will be happy to see Ellie. I guess, part 3 can still have Tommy, Dina, Ellie, and the baby. Maybe in part 3 we play as the baby, we can spend countless hours crawling on the floor and chewing on plastic toys.. in Santa Barbara of course.
In all honestly, coming from a true TLOU fan, and not expecting anything from part 2 but a continuation of Joel and Ellie's adventures... I give this game a solid 7 out of 10. I don't think there should be a part 3, if there is a part 3 don't even bring Ellie into the game, she might end up getting killed off by the writers. Alright, that's about all I have to say about that.
Oh, one last thing... after playing this game and finishing the game, The Last of Us part 2, I must say this... why couldn't have Joel just stayed home?????? Like, just NOT get killed in this story? The game could have been about Ellie, her pregnant girlfriend, Tommy and his hunting skills, Maria and managing the camp, literally anything else could have been a great main story, heck even Abby searching for Joel and finding redemption by saving Lev and his sister WITHOUT killing Joel off. That is the one thing I hate about this game, JOEL DID NOT HAVE TO GET KILLED to make a great story! He could have been out of town on a mission or just sick in bed recovering from a broken leg, or anything else. Anyway, that is why this game is a 7 out of 10. And now I go to sleep with a heavy heart.. may Joel Miller rest in peace.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I liked the game but didn’t love it. At times it was everything you could want. At other times, it felt like a hard slog. I think it could have been reduced by 4/5 hours.

There were clearly a lot of ideas that were put into the game; some great, some not so great. Fair play to ND for expanding TLOU universe but they could have probably held some ideas back. Part 2 improves on everything except the story and pacing for me. It was never going to be easy to top Part 1 either.

Part 1 flowed better because you play it mostly as Joel, with Ellie by your side. It progresses nicely towards its conclusion. You care a lot more about the characters and what happens to them.

Even so, I can understand why Joel was killed. It gave the game purpose. The manner in which he died has clearly infuriated people and I can understand that. Joel wasn’t perfect by any means but we rooted for him. I’m not sure if we were supposed to ever like Abby. I think playing as Abby was purely to try and understand her struggles and what she had been through. We have to remember that she has lost people too.

For me, I would have preferred to play Day 1 as Ellie, then Day 1 as Abby and so on, so forth. There was such a big moment in Ellie and Abby finally meeting after the death of Joel and then we kind of lost that momentum as we were forced to play as Abby for a long period of time and go through parts of her story.

What TLOU does well is show us that there are no heroes or villains. People are just trying to endure and survive. The level of detail is incredible and one of the best additions to Part 2 was hearing people scream out their friends name when you took them out. It added weight to the decisions you were making.

Went into the game blind after hearing a lot of criticism. Overall I think the game has an excellent gameplay, mechanics, weapons, approaches to the encounters are all great. Joel’s death really does not go with his character’s personality but you could slip that if the rest of the story made sense. The story was ok, until a point in which everything stop making sense. I don’t really have too much to say after Abby’s day 3 everything stop for me after that. Felt they just rushed the endignas they were out of ideas. I think my opinion is unbiased as I am not a big fan of the series and I don’t hate either. Like I said I really enjoyed playing the game, but there points were storywise I had no idra what was the purpose. Expand

At first I watched the game and I hated it and hated Abby making me lose interest in playing it until my cousin gave it to me for free so I gave it a shot and I have to say it moved me in a way I didn’t think I was gonna get from a game. I also cried and I really don’t cry but the stuff they put Ellie through made me so emotional and afflicted that I couldn’t hold it in especially in the end. There are some small things that I would love to change about the game but who doesn’t? All in all the game wasn’t what I waited for Sense middle school (I’m in high school) but I’m still gonna play it and try to love the good things about the experience like the graphics and small chapters with Joel Making it feel like I’m playing the first game again… Expand

The Last of Us Part II is the high point of the PlayStation 4. The plot is controversial, but the game is the incredibly addictive adventure of Ellie, from which it is impossible to pull away from the opening and to the very end.

Not everyone is going to enjoy the motives of The Last of Us Part II. But if you try and manage to accept the subliminal and not so subtle messages as a fact that the world has gone awry and that people have the need to have somewhere or someone to belong to as their own way out, then... You will witness the boundaries of gaming expand. You will witness a true masterpiece.

If you loved the original for its great characters and well-paced story – stay away from this game. However, if you’re aching to sink into the depths of depression, or just want to cut some throats and burn some zombies – Part II will deliver. [Issue#247, p.72]
