It all felt out of place and for someone that has no prior investment in the characters some of the dialogue didn't seem to fit. I had no compulsion to finish the game and watched the ending on YouTube, just silly really a silly ending for what feels like an ego project

I give the story 0,
5 point for the rest because the studio and the visual artists did a great job, not the writer.

LoU is not like other games, if it weren't for the great story in the first part i wouldn't have even played it or known the game exists, it is not like darksouls when the gameplay will just over come everything else in the game and you play it for that....
but we played The Last of Us for it is story and when the story is trash, what else is left to enjoy ? it becomes another average game. I thought Dr.Uckmann knew better.

Alguien me puede explicar a quien se le ocurrió ese final? Buena jugabilidad pero eso no valió para nada la pena, la historia ya empezó mal desde el principio con la muerte de Joel y lo único que faltaba es que deje ir así al personaje que odio...

The story is just terrible. In a game that’s this centered on the plot of the story, it shouldn’t be this bad. Not what I would expect from an AAA game. Neil shouldn’t get to write for any kind of game ever again. Let’s just pretend this game doesn’t exist after getting a refund.

If you are a fan of the original game’s story and characters, please don’t play part2, don’t spoil the good memory of Joel and Ellie for yourself. This game’s story is a spit in the face of fans. And naughty dog are pretty much frauds with how they approached this game’s marketing. They legit made fake trailers and showed it to people. Expand

Oh, and you get to play as the killer of Joel, forcing you to sympathize for her. Not my style, sacrificing protagonists in the early game for pure shock value

    Also, the ending was ****

Waited 7 years for a sequel, now Naughty Dog's got a bad rep now.

The Last of Us Part II is anything but simple. At first glance you’d argue that it is. It’s about a set of characters in a post-apocalyptic world. All of this because of an outbreak that spreadThe Last of Us Part II is anything but simple. At first glance you’d argue that it is. It’s about a set of characters in a post-apocalyptic world. Food, medical supplies and other basic necessities are in shortage. The government has crumbled and in it’s place factions have risen to either gain control or give hope to the people around them. All of this because of an outbreak that spread to quickly to even give people a chance to find a cure or an appropriate way to contain the infection. Days Gone, Dying Light, The Walking Dead, DayZ, and many other games have touched upon this concept of an infected-filled world. It’s hard to talk about this game without revisiting the first one because Part II does start with the end of Part 1. So you got Ellie - your escorts mission throughout all of Part I - and she is immune to the fungi that creates these zombie-like creatures in this game. in fact, she is probably the only one that is immune. Then you got Joel, who is your main protagonist in the first game and the one that has to take Ellie to one of the factions called the Fireflies in hopes that they can study Ellie and find a cure. You get to see Joel lose her actual daughter early on in Part I and thusly see him hesitate in taking on the task of escorting a 14-year old girl in Ellie across America to the hospital that will find a cure for humanity. He takes the job anyways and in his journey with this girl begins to empathize with her and allows himself to bond with her as though she was his daughter. Given that he is all sorts of gray, he ends up taking a decision that impacts the future of humanity in saving Ellie and you have the premise of Part II.

Joel kills the only known neurosurgical expert that can perform the necessary procedure to study Ellies brain. The reason, he couldn’t bare losing his newly adopted daughter as the surgery would have killed her. Without hesitation, Joel rushes into the operating room, takes out the doctor, takes out anyone and everyone in his way and saves Ellie, while at the same time dooming humanity. You see this morally gray guy take a definitive action, a selfish one at best and you have to deal with it while also questioning what would you have done if you were in his exact same shoes. If you experienced the TLOU Part I and allowed yourself to be in Joel and Ellie’s shoes, you were probably engrossed in the story about them two as a father and daughter, and the infected world became secondary to their story. Still important but not the real focus of the story. Part II does the same thing. It starts off revisiting that hospital scene and giving you Joels rationale. Then, you play as Ellie for most of the game and then Abby for another good portion of the game. You get to see what happens because of Joel’s action through both of these characters. How they internalize it, how they express their feelings outward and how they inevitably impact the immediate world around them. This is still an infected world with more chaos than the first one, as no cure is found after things fell apart thanks to Joels action four years prior. Though you live in this world and interact with the present factions and learn about factions of the past, the game informs you that it is not about the world and instead it is about the characters you interact with in the world. Ellie is not hunted for the cure because she was not necessarily identifiable. Joel was because he was. So instead of this game being about hunting Ellie and her escaping it, it is about Ellie dealing with Joel’s actions and her own actions. It is also about Abby and her actions, as how it relates to Joel. The world that’s here is to inform you about the characters’ mind set and how it can push them forward to take certain actions or help them hold back. This game is not one note, contrived or preachy. At least I didn’t think it to be. It can be cut and dry at points and shocking at others but there’s deeper meaning to everything that happens and it happens organically. What I like most about this game, that may not be new, is that it goes off the path to give you uncomfortable moments that make you think about the society we live in and the society in this world. It makes you think about your own values and moral codes in comparison to the characters you play as. Of course, that is if you let it happen. At the end you go along on a tough ride in which you as a player clash with your characters actions in pivotal moments. This game is a buy, just like the first one was. It is well told and well crafted, and deserves your attention. It has great combat mechanics, visceral action, a unique cast of characters that are well enough fleshed out for you to care for them (pay attention to flashback as and notes) and will leave you thinking the game through days after you finish it.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Tried to write a review but there's too many issues to go into detail so I'm going to give my summary.

The way the killed Joel off was dreadful he deserved a lot more especially seeing how he was beloved by so many of fans from the first game. It was like the developers wanted to annoy their fans.

Ellie's story was completely pointless and meaningless as you are forced to play as Abby and stop Ellie and killing her friend Jesse and almost killing Tommy and Dina.

Being forced to play as Abby was a terrible move and completely destroyed the pacing of the game and ruined my enjoyment especially with multiple flashbacks from playing with Ellie reminding you that Abby brutally murdered Joel and now you have to plays as her for 12 hours as they show you her dull backstory. I feel like it would've been better if for example, Abby was introduced first at the start of the game with scenes of the hospital just after the events of the first game to introduce us to Abby and show motive. Instead it was terrible character development which was too little too late.

Also no character development for Abby's friends they're still just nobodies who help Abby whenever she asks no matter what it seems.

Story writing was just bad. Trying to give Abby morals even though she never once questioned her choices and was happy betraying her own friends and allies to make her feel less guilty about herself.

Turning Ellie into a bad person was even more poor writing and was ill suited especially after the fact that every decision you make and action you take is pointless and niether the player or character get their release.

The ending was lack lustre especially as you finally get to play as Ellie again but instead of excitement it was boredom with me thinking "here we go again". Abby, somebody nobody cares about, gets the better end of the stick with the encounter with Ellie making the entire game a waste of time.

I shall now reinstall the Last of Us remastered and pretend this game never existed as I feel 2020 would be better without it.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Honestly, I'm glad that when this game got leaked it was one of Neil's worst days of his life because that's what playing this game was for me and my friends. I've always cared for Joel since he reminded me of my uncle and to witness the tasteless way they decided to end his story. I would've been okay with his death if they had given him the same treatment Rockstar gave Arthur Morgan, let him go out as a hero/badass and not like some **** It took me a while to continue playing and I was fully on board with the whole revenge mission, playing as Abby didn't change any of the feelings I have towards her. Then when it finally came to the ending I couldn't belive Ellie just let her go. So now I guess it's an easy answer for who's the best post-apocalyptic daughter. If only Clementine was in this game I mean with her there's no doubt in my mind she would've gotten the job done without any hesitation. Expand

I personally think that if this was a standalone game. it wouldve been fine however, the first game did a really good job delevoping ellie and joel as a character. it really upset me (spoiler alert) to see joel killed by an under develop character. who was never in the first game nor was mentioned and to add salt to the injury. you will play this character for some the portions of the game. I also find hard to believe joel trusted those guys so easily which contradict joel character as it was pretty clear in the first game that he does have trust issue. naughty has been one of my fav developers out ther but they really job the ball on this one Expand

Not everyone is going to enjoy the motives of The Last of Us Part II. But if you try and manage to accept the subliminal and not so subtle messages as a fact that the world has gone awry and that people have the need to have somewhere or someone to belong to as their own way out, then...
