Although the final scene wasn't the one we were expecting, the game brought all kind of feelings at the moment of playing it, graphics and also the sounds are TOP, also the gameplay it self felt so smooth and real at the moment of playing it, I didn't give the game a 10 just because of how they tried tod do the history

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view.

Although the story is divisive, it worked for me. From a technical aspect (mechanically and graphically), the game is probably the best game ever made. Story-wise, I thought the risks paid off, but it was ever so slightly bogged down by some pacing issues and its overdrawn length. It’s not as good as the first, but it’s still a remarkable feat not only technically but in storytelling as well.

IMO the first game is still better and the story is more focused on the characters and everything around them. My favorite part of the second game were the flashbacks, they were everything I wanted to know after the first game ended. 9/10
I replayed the first game on Monday, finished it on Thursday and started playing part II on Friday to finish it on Sunday. Playing both games like that gives you another perspective.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view.

Intense and challenging gameplay. The encounters balance stealth and brutal combat in an awesome way. The story is wavers a bit but has dark, dreadful second half that I won't be forgetting anytime soon.

This game is art in its brutality.

    Pros:
Gameplay. The game improved upon the first in almost every way. Combat is more fluid with dodging, diving, improved animations and fluidity of movement, and more fun thanks to some fun new weapons like bomb arrows. Stealth is more fun than ever thanks to additions like going prone, crafting silencers, enemy dogs (which make the stealth harder, but the extra challenge adds more fun), hiding in grass of varying heights, improved communication and teamwork between enemies, and more.
Writing. The writing itself is great, whether you agree with the overall story or not. Individual conversations and lines are great, even if the occurrences of fun conversations are fewer and further between. The mid-combat dialogue feels more natural (although it's still peppered with the scripted "I think I saw something. > Go check it out, I'll watch your back") and enemies react better to my actions.
Visuals: This game looks amazing. The animations in particular are top-notch, some of the (if not THE) best in the industry.
Story: Great, but definitely not for everyone. People angry about Joel's death are upset *because that's how you're supposed to feel about it.* You're supposed to be outraged. But Naughty Dog made the mistake of thinking people could contextualize their anger within the game like rational beings instead of at the developers. The story is brutal. It's hard to experience. But it's very well-made. You're *supposed* to be angry and confused when you have to play as Abby. The whole point is that it shines a light on how we view Joel as this hero when he *wasn't.* The cycle of revenge was portrayed extremely well in this story. "Uhh, but she didn't get revenge!" Yea the whole point was that Ellie lost herself when she lost Joel, and Abby lost herself when she lost Jerry (and almost lost herself again later when she lost her friends). People who missed this didn't listen to Joel's song, "If I ever were to lose you, I'd surely lose myself." Letting go and putting an end to the cycle was the only way to truly move on and find themselves again. It was a beautiful message that was beautifully told.

    Cons:
Gameplay: A hell-bent revenge mission doesn't seem as realistic when I'm stopping to pick up notes constantly. Very small detail, but something I couldn't help but chuckle at. As far as difficulty, even on Survivor I found that I had a lot of stuff to spare at most times. I play fairly stealthily, meaning not lots of molotovs or bombs, which contributes to this, but still. I feel like a good way to make resources feel scarcer would be capping our carried resources at 2 instead of 3 on higher difficulties.
Writing: I personally don't understand the "Joel would never say his name" complaint, but I'll leave that here since it's such a common complaint and one that may be reasonable. Personally, I feel as though he followed Tommy's lead (and Tommy has been living in Jackson much longer so he's likely softer).
Visuals: idk there were a couple of visual bugs that were funny? No real complaints here.
Story: Abby's tale should have lined up better with Ellie's, where we're playing the other side of the story, but that would have been difficult considering she was the only enemy in those areas of the game (not the Seraphites). I just was excited to go through and see the effects of Ellie's actions from her point of view and we don't really get that until the aquarium on Day 3. The Seraphites seemed to contradict a lot of what Naughty Dog accomplished with the WLF. The WLF broke the trope of being the generic nameless enemies. They may have seemed pure evil after the events early in the game, but we see that's not the case later on when we get to play as Abby and see the amazing communities they've established. They're just like Jackson. The Seraphites are just evil, and presented as such at every turn. They're a violent, fanatical cult without any positive contributions to the world, and they're not even doing it out of desperation to survive like villains from the first game. They're just *evil* and it's so out of place within the rest of the game.

Coming off the first game, there was almost no way a sequel could live up to it and satisfy everyone. Some people think this means they shouldn't have made it, and that's one argument to be made. People say Star Wars should have been left alone, but each new movie deserves to be judged on its own merits, not just "the originals were amazing and we should've let it die with dignity." Same goes for this. You can think the original is better. But rating this game anything below like a 6 shows you're not truly critiquing the game, you're just ranting.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The Last of Us Parte 2 es la última entrega de Naughty Dog, y a pesar de su poco tiempo en el mercado una de las más grandes.
Lanzado el 19 de junio de 2020, The Last of Us 2 a causado mucha controversia entre los usuarios y la prensa con su impactante historia y narrativa.

    Historia y Narrativa:

Honestly, even if you don't like the story, the graphics and the amazing gameplay make it deserve more. It's not a 10/10 for me because the gameplay it's kinda of repetitive sometimes and I would change some things in the narrative to make abby more likeable, because I think she deserves the empathy that ND tries to cause on us, but her introduction to the story messed it up, I only started to like her when I saw her completely destroyed. The narrative is realistic I think that's why you're all so triggered. Nobody is a hero or a villain and the characters are unpredictable and I love that. The game is unique and totally satisfied my expectations of crying for a week. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Expand

I do agree that we played as Abby a little to much, but i grew to understand why she did what she did and actually agreed with what she did because of the death of her dad. I would have done the same thing in that situation.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This game is amazing! I was very reluctant about buying initially due to all the bad reviews, however I am so glad I did get it. I was a big fan of the last of us and enjoyed this game just as much, if not more than the original. The way the game manages to turn you from hating abby for what she did, to really understanding her actions is something I've never seen in a game before. Ellie will always be my favourite of the 2, however her actions throughout are just as violent as abbys. The way they build abbys character through lev and yara is one of my favourite parts about the game. It's probably an unpopular opinion but I'm glad they didn't kill each other and both realised the damage revenge and bitterness can have. All that being said however, I do agree that Joel's death was the most heartbreaking moment of the game and he was definitely missed but that meant the flashback moments felt more emotional. The graphics are the best I've seen in a ps4 game. Finally the gameplay is brilliantly tense, I constantly felt on edge throughout. The only reason this isn't a ten is,as great as the gameplay is, it can get slightly repetitive however it is only a very minor issue in an amazing game. Expand

I saw one leak that came out 2 months before the game. It was a horrible(for a character) and major plot point. I sat there and thought well I need context. So I stayed away from anything related till I played the game for myself. I finished it last night. Feeling Satisfied yet I didn't always feel that way and I think that was the point. Game play was taken to the next level. Fun and fluid. Getting excited when looting for ammo and upgrades. Feeling terrified when you hear a Clicker or Seeing a Runner dash past you or the Roar of Shambler. When you encounter the infected you must be aggressive. Humans are a little more complex because they have gun, dogs, and tend to rally against you so stealth is mostly a good option. 60% you play as Ellie and her quest for revenge for the loss of a loved one. The other 40% is a new character Abby. The Game plays off the events of part I that bleed into part II. 3 days are with Ellie and those same 3 days as Abby and the ending is the Collision. Abby is hard to put empathy on because of her choice at the beginning of the game. When you play as her you don't care but the game continues to show she was justified and is a decent human but it's hard to turn Babyface (good guy) when you have nuclear heat as a Heel.(bad guy) In this post apocalyptic world good and bad isn't enough it's more grey. It's interesting to see a character you care about turn to revenge and how dark that takes you even if it's out of love. Flipside take a character you don't like and make selfless choices to help others then you begin to feel empathy. The Last of Us is still very much about Joel and Ellie. The scene at the Museum had my smiling and in tears. The Jurassic Park references in that was amazing and loved that. The Father/Daughter relationship is still the core. It's complex. It has to answer the hard questions left by part I. While I don't agree with every story choice doesn't mean it's a bad game and I feel like fans can't get past certain choices and won't experience it for themselves which I kinda get but you have to play the game NOT watch cut scenes to understand the journey. Also the graphics are Apex for PS4! So beautiful to look at. The Last of Us was one the greatest video games. While I don't think Part II surpasses it. I think it's a worthy sequel. The Last Cut scene was sad yet happy.

This game made me feel so many things. Some positive and some negative but none of the negative ones had to do with the quality of the game. I feel some people were primed to hate the game because they heard reviews about others who hated it and thus that set the tone for them.

The gameplay is smooth and free almost entirely of bugs, the level design is impeccable, the acting is phenomenal, and (what most people had issues with) the story is gritty, dark, and exhausting in the best way possible. I will steer clear of spoilers for the sake of encouraging others to play. In my experience, I went into this with the mindset of "this will be about Ellie and a very different narrative from the first game". While certain parts made me very sad the results, which you need to look at from a human perspective and not a video game perspective, are beautiful. Each character that you get to meet and understand a little bit more about them and their relationship with others although brief at times is just enough to send the message of "this person was important to so and so and now they are gone, they have lost someone dear to them".

You get to watch characters that you will grow to care about descend into a darker part of their mind than they thought they would. You get to observe how for some loss is not tied to only the death, but also to the loss of hope for all the times they fought and will never get to make up for, all the times they laughed which will never be shared again, and all the ways they shaped you into who you are which you may now come to learn, you can no longer be.

Some of the deaths, although sudden, do reflect the reality of loss. You can't predict when it will happen and it can be jarring when it is sudden and violent. It can cause anger and in the worst cases violence in those mourning.

Some view the game as pretentious, trying too hard to show people the dangers of revenge to others and to the self. I can appreciate that feeling. It was a long game and really worked to make the players feel defeated by the end and ready for something new. For me though, that is exactly why the game works. You can tell how each character is exhausted and wants to stop, but something in them keeps them from doing so and makes them blind to their actions until they do something that makes them think "is this too far?".

This was not the Last of Us (1). This was the Last of Us part 2. Ellie is grown up, she knows things now about Joel and her past and she, as well as the other characters, will be far more complex because of this. This was a Beautiful game, I am on my second playthrough right now and my advice for those hoping to play it: the game is human emotions at their most raw and violent, each character is connected to the others in some way. Remember that when thinking about how you are not connected to a certain character another is or when you are tired of the quest and the struggle, so are they.

I hope this was helpful and made some sense!

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. A gorgeous, captivating journey that was viscerally challenging in a way I’ve never experienced before. A tale of grief and healing, foremost, but also a story on the ills of vengeance. How vilification before compassion leads to only more pain, more suffering. How we otherize and dehumanize, both in gaming and in real life. There are evils and there are hurts, but there are no villains. Because this is a tale of the last of humanity, clinging to the only fundamentally real thing left to them; each other. Whether that’s through love, through hatred. Through grief, through joy. Connecting in the shadow of a world that used to be, in a people that continue to struggle onward. It’s not about forgiveness, it’s about the ladder we take to climb out of grief. A harrowing journey that we don’t always do right the first time, because the last step isn’t letting go, or even forgiving, its accepting. It’s seeing other side; seeing that they, too, have their own ladders to climb. Their own hurts to bear. Not only does the game express this narratively, but through the gameplay as well. Through every single step. Every flinch when our knife slides deep, eyes flicking up to us in terror and confusion. Every name we learn and life we take. How we befriend one and kill a dozen more, all while the line between enemy and ally blurs. You question every action, because they aren’t some ubiquitous “them” anymore. They are you. This isn’t just Ellie or Abby or Joel’s story, it’s ours as well. We willful passengers cannot make their choices for them, cannot alter their course, can only guide them along it. It is not something that can be fully realized except through this medium. We are not passive participants, like in a movie, but active ones. It’s more personal. That makes it more difficult, too. It’s hard to feel shame or heartbreak, and it’s hard to feel empathy for the one who caused it.

This is not a game for everyone, but it is in no way a bad one. We are used to these platforms being majority entertainment, but this is...this is more like art. And not the New York interpretive bull that finds meaning in swathes of color, but a true snapshot of the human experience. It is harrowing. It is ugly. And it might reveal more about us than we were ready to see. But in the end, I believe it’s worth it, to connect so fundamentally to others, even when that connection is difficult. We get to see these little glimmers of hope in darkness, like fireflies. They guide us forward, even when so little remains; even when we are swallowed in despair. There is reason to keep going, to try, even if it’s only for the sake of a memory. 9/10

The Last of Us Part II is the high point of the PlayStation 4. The plot is controversial, but the game is the incredibly addictive adventure of Ellie, from which it is impossible to pull away from the opening and to the very end.

Not everyone is going to enjoy the motives of The Last of Us Part II. But if you try and manage to accept the subliminal and not so subtle messages as a fact that the world has gone awry and that people have the need to have somewhere or someone to belong to as their own way out, then... You will witness the boundaries of gaming expand. You will witness a true masterpiece.

If you loved the original for its great characters and well-paced story – stay away from this game. However, if you’re aching to sink into the depths of depression, or just want to cut some throats and burn some zombies – Part II will deliver. [Issue#247, p.72]
