Slick Graphics cannot save this dumpster fire. Destroying beloved characters for cheap shock value is not entertainment nor edgy. I loved the first game LOVED and i dont say that lightly. The bond between J & E was amazing and i replayed the game purely for the story sooo many times.
Last of us 2 is a slap in the face. A cheap and hollow experience, the developers must live in some kind

Last of us 2 is a slap in the face. A cheap and hollow experience, the developers must live in some kind of bubble to ever think this steaming turd of a story would be popular.
Biggest disappointment of the decade. Worse than the AGOT finale.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The game was fantastic. It's an apocalypse, people die, even those close to your heart. Joel dying made sense, he doomed the rest of the world to continue in this apocalyptic state.
People hated Abby because she killed Joel, but Joel killed her dad. What would you do if someone killed your parent?
Ellie letting Abby live at the end also makes sense, she's trying to forgive so it doesn't eat at her for the rest of her life.
Overall fantastic game and ready to play 2nd time through.

A game not really about revenge, but guilt, the cycles of violence, and forgiveness. It not only challenges your preconceived notions of what is true or not, but more or less tests your capabilities for empathy. There is no game like it and even a week after completing the game, it’s emotional toll on me is still present. Plainly put: a masterpiece.

I think the world design is superb and actually improved from previous Naughty Dog titles. People just really need to try playing with an open mind because the world of The Last of Us is not a world of happy endings and fantasies. One downside I guess is there were unnecessary scenes that didn't quite impress me but overall, it really is a nice game. Art is not meant to please everybody and I think Naughty Dog won't impress everyone at this point, but for a major developer to have this courage in storytelling and game design, I gotta give them a 10. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I cannot comprehend so much hate for the sexuality matter. Of course, it could have been taken care of more properly, but still that doesn’t need to take away the characters value. Some of them are not so good, but some of them are really good and necessary.

It has some negative points for me, starting from very forced character appearances, and the chats with Ellie and her partners while playing, which seems as if nothing had happened to Joel.

This story lets us know that Ellie and Joel are not the only people who deserve something from the world, it shows us the cost and consequences of what their actions have caused in other people who as them, try to live and survive, defending what they care of. Even though Joel has been the most important character of TLOU, consequences fall upon him, and as painfully as it is to watch and feel, Joel’s ending is fair, because everybody knows that Joel’s would have done the same in a similar scenario.

Abby is the harmful truth that shows us that most of the people we kill in combat are just defending what they care of, that every person we kill had a story, a dream, a family, something humanly relevant to life’s importance. I am not saying there aren’t bad or good people, I’m just saying this game makes us conscious of a world we never see in most of the industry, the other side of things. Showing us how much we didn’t care before and even celebrate when our character has done something horrible, because we didn’t know any backgrounds.

There is a point in the game you start slightly hating Ellie’s actions, who at first had all your support. And it’s normal because they showed us the damage we have done. But still Ellie is heavily impulsive and leads to behaviors that make her look like the Joel with that open wound, with that ferocity, and that relentless way of killing.

In the great ending, Ellie’s not mercy but realizing that forgiving Abby’s life, may in a way
mean finishing to forgive Joel, accepting her actions as the same way as Joel’s.

This game in technical matters it’s perfect. The visuals, soundtrack, and sound are excellently handled. The playability is just something else, being perfectly build and fluid through all the game.

Technically, the game is a masterpiece. It has some of the best performances ever seen in the game before. However, where it falters is how it structures its narrative. The game's entire length is not justified by its content by including drawn out sections that could have theoretically worked in delivering its themes but hurts the narrative's pacing in practice.

The characters, while brilliantly acted with impeccable nuance, are tragically unlikable; an observation that could be attributed to flaws in writing. There is no chemistry between Ellie and Dinah and this permeates to the rest of the character relationships as well.

The game at least plays better than the first though, but that's not exactly a surprising thing to see. It could have benefited from a few more gameplay innovations though as the gap between the two games feels less than the actual seven-year distance it has.

But the strongest detriment that ruined my experience is how jarring the narrative dissonance in contrast to its gameplay. For a game that has elevated in technicality that borders on the uncanny valley of realism, to see characters display emotions only in cutscenes and not in gameplay is deeply off-putting and instantly shatters thematic consistency. I hoped that by this time, Naughty Dog - who are well-known as crafted story-tellers in this medium - should have found the way to resolved this ever-living conflict. But I guess we're still far off from that.

As far as video game sequels I've played from Naughty Dog, I have not had any complaints as all. The entire Uncharted Series was enjoyable, the first Last of Us game had a mix of suspense and climax, but I have many questions for the Last of Us 2.
I didn't really care if the game was pumped with politically correct narratives. What i wanted was more screen time with Joel and Ellie, and the flashbacks don't really do it for me. There were also 2 things that made this game worse, it was the delayed release date and the false advertising from the teaser trailer. In my perspective, delayed products are always the worse, even when it wasn't even worth the wait. I don't understand why Joel had to die, but we cant do anything about it. The entire pace of the game bothered me the most, because the flashbacks felt like downloadable content. Its like there was another chunk of the story that's missing. I've heard other people say that the game play mechanics and the graphics were outstanding. However, if the story is not satisfying, the entirety of this game is pointless.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This game, visually and technically is nothing but a masterpiece.
The visuals, the lightings, the psychics, it's all near just perfect and honestly the fact that this was done for the ps4 is mind blowing. 10/10 when it comes to graphics, art direction and all.

The gameplay is not much more different from the first part, a few changes and more open battle areas, it's an improvement.

The story is where it falls a bit on it's face, to me, the story wasn't even half as bad as people made it out to be, but it was far from perfect, now for the first 10-15 hours of the game you play as Ellie, and **** happens, Joel literally dies in one of the worst ways possible, that left me with a sour taste in my mouth for a while after it happened, I fell like Joel should've died in a more badass, if it weren't for your friends I would've **** you up kinda way.

Then the Ellie section (Seattle day 1-3) was absolutely great, it was a slow buildup to revenge, seeing the characters go through horrible **** all the way up until we see Abby and then we cut to the Abby section

The Abby section was just ****ty pacing in my opinion, you pulled out all the adrenaline the player had from that moment and just had them play as Abby, and that's where i think this game (rightfully) gets a lot of **** It's hard to get into because you wanna know what happens to Ellie and Tommy, and where the **** is Dina??

Now, apart from that the Abby section, was meh, it was interesting to see all that **** from a different perspective, but it felt like this was some type of DLC or some **** like if I was playing TLOU3 not 2, the characters where alright, Manny was a funny guy, and was kinda suprised when he got shot like that by Tommy, ****ing hated Mel, Nora and **** Owen was a chill dude, Yara was alright, and i just felt bad for Lev, for all the **** they went trough.

Then when the Ellie vs Abby fight happened I got a bit angry, i kinda wanted Abby to die even after playing a whole section of her, so seeing Ellie get **** like that really pissed me off.

In the end, when Ellie was in the farm with Dina, after like 4 years later, I was just confused, I was lost, asking myself what the **** just went on? That whole scene was just confusion, and when Ellie went back out for revenge I kinda was on the same boat, but understood why Dina would be so sad.

Then we reach the final area, by far the weirdest part of the story, so this new faction gets introduced, the rattlers, they're **** and we really never get explained why, they beat the **** out of Abby and Lev and after a few months or years?? Ellie finds them, she frees Abby and at the last moment decides to fight her, the fight itself was executed almost perfectly, it was hard to watch, two characters who have been through hell just fighting finally, as much as I didn't like Abby, I still knew that she's been through ****ing hell, and in the end, Ellie let's her go (after Abby bites of two of her fingers lol) I don't know if I personally wouldn't do it, but i could see why, after all, if Ellie killed Abby, then Lev would have a reson to kill him, then once JJ is older they'll go after Lev and that would just be a ****storm wouldn't it haha

All jokes aside, the ending was pretty confusing to, the audience is left with a ****ton of questions.
Where the hell did Dina go? Where is Ellie going? Where is Abby going? What the **** is going on?

A bit more of closure would've been nice but whatever.

Overall TL;DR: The game starts good, but once the Abby section starts, the game never quite recovers from it. Then after the Ellie vs Abby fight, the story just gets straight up confusing.

The reason I give this game a 8? The visuals are ****ing fantastic, the acting, the lightning, the psychics, and the gameplay are all pretty interesting.
The story meanwhile lacks a bit, it's a good story, but compared to the first one, it's just mediocre.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Does the story suffer from poor writing? or Is it a story that you don't like?

I believe The Last of Us 2 has suffered from both, but more definitely the latter. This is a story that people (including me) don't like. The storytelling wouldn't be under such scrutiny if the story itself was something that we appreciated. I can not critisize the game for its amazing graphics, world creation, and gameplay. It's a beautifully made game. However, with the Last of Us. It's the STORY that matters most. And this is where Naughty Dog left most of it's players upset and exhausted. (FYI, I was blessed not to have to anything spoiled for me prior to playing this game.)

I would like to state that it seems that players who like the game are claiming that MOST of the gamers who dislike TLOU2, dislike it because of LGBTQ representation and main female character. While I would say there are definitely a lot of bigots who are leaving reviews, i believe it is unfair to generalize. Many gamers praise Naughty God for its intention with diversity, but still feel cheated by the story. Especially fans of The Oringal The Last of Us. This game was a long and depressing ride. If you liked the first one, be prepared to be heartbroken.

Naughty Dog seems to have underestimated how much the fans connected with Joel and Ellie from the first game. Not just the characters, but the relationship they developed. You feel for them. You root for them as you see them protect and fight for each other. TLOU2 very swiftly destroyed Joel and Ellie's relationship, killed Joel, and turned Ellie into a broken revenge addict. This is where fans may not like the story. For fair reason. Naughty Dog seemed to disregard why Fans liked the first game for the sake of telling a risky and emotionally draining story. It was not a pleasant experience for the fan and that should make the developers think. However, the game does make you think and ponder upon some of the deeper themes the story makes you ask. I dislike the story, but cannot say It is a story that lacks depth. I dislike the story, but that does not mean it's a "bad" story.

Now the storytelling... Where the story telling fails is regarding Abby. While I still cannot imagine sympathizing with her at all, I believe telling a little bit more of her story in the beginning of the game and fleshing that out... would have helped naughty dog achieve what they wanted. Which is for the player to connect with Abby. This was not done... and it left me personally, wanting to quickly finish the Abby parts to get back to Ellie's narrative. However, quickly finding out that Abby's story keeps going. I was waiting and expecting a switch back to Ellie in the boss fight where you play as Abby, and was subsequently disgusted that the studio had me play a character I didn't like... to beat up a character I was rooting for.

All in all. I have mixed feelings. As any gamer would by the end of the game. A dark, depressing, rollercoaster. I just hope that if there is a part 3. That we do not play as Abby for the majority of it. 6/10

The game is nothing less than a 7 out of 10. The middle portion of the game is slow, and arguably unnecessary. While slow, it's a masterpiece of video game creation. Graphics, animations, and sound are the best of the generation. The story and lies (from previous trailers) are what hold this back.
