The Last of Us 2 is a masterpiece of a game. While playing it, I felt tension, elation, love, hate, regret, nervousness, loss, and relief - to name a few of the emotions this game brings about.

The Last of Us 2 is a masterpiece of a game. While playing it, I felt tension, elation, love, hate, regret, nervousness, loss, and relief - to name a few of the emotions this game brings about.

The message of the game doesn't lie in the ending, which appears to have pissed other reviewers off. It lies very much in the journey (i know, total cliche, but its true). Specifically it lies within the parallels between Ellie and Abby. Both characters have been/are on quests for revenge, and those quests eat them up in different ways unique to that character. How much of your humanity are you willing to give up for your revenge? How much of your life will it consume? How much of yourself can you get back afterwards?

The main message I took from the game in the end related to how you view your enemies. It's easy to paint someone as the villain in your own story, but if you look at things from their point of view, all they are is another person. Another human being trying to survive.

Abby isnt the devil she appears to be at the start. She isnt some kind of saint. She's a deeply flawed person just trying to get by in a post apocalyptic world. Ellie is just the same.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. People who play Souls-Borne games are used to getting the middle finger and a "GiT GuD" when it comes to a difficulty setting. It's something of a hot topic recently (surprisingly) and it's something that people who were unable to overcome simply didn't like about the games. That being said those games are better for it and arguably could be ruined if ever implemented. TLOU2 another one of those games. There is a difficulty setting for game-play but there are no difficulty settings in this game or in real life for processing mental and emotional trauma. It seems like the majority of these reviews are from people having trouble at the latter. This is strange though because games like Hellblade and Celeste have done well on here.

Grief is a potent emotion that I would never wish on anyone. If not under control it will ravage someone, sometimes completely changing the person you thought you knew. This is something that is as hard to watch in real life as it is in this game. We saw what it turned Joel into in the first game but we never saw how. In movies you just have to watch as someone goes through this; in video-games you're in the drivers seat and you are far more exposed. This is where Naughty Dog shines and they do an immaculate job across the board. I felt the death of Joel hard, I felt Ellie's grief, I even felt Abby's grief but I didn't think I would be able to forgive her. There is one moment at the end of the game that is so easy to miss but hits so hard. As Ellie holds Abby's head under water trying to drown her she has a brief but powerful flashback. In this 2 second flashback Ellie remembers the very moment she was ready to forgive the only person besides Abby that took everything away from her. It's after this moment that Ellie realizes the is done and lets Abby go. Its not a happy ending and it was not something I would call fun, but rather fulfilling. TLOU starts as a story about curing all the zombies but changes at the very end with Joel murdering everyone in the hospital and ruining the chance of a cure. TLOU2 starts as a cliche murder revenge plot but ends up with Ellie ultimately letting everything go. In hindsight this is something we could have expected.

This is a must play game for me across the board with one caveat. Not everyone can handle losing a loved one, they may even play video-games to avoid this. If that is the case this game may not be for you. It doesn't make sense to buy a game after seeing the leaks and knowing you're not going to like it. Its the equivalent of going to a restaurant and ordering a salad even though you wanted a steak and writing a bad yelp review. It would seem there are a lot of Karens playing video-games nowadays.

Absolutely beautiful, perfect game. Finished it a few days ago and still thinking about it. Better than the first one in many ways.
FYI if you don't like something, don't waste your time hating it, it's kind of pathetic. Sell the game and move on.

Did people actually play this game?
This game was an amazing experience all the way through... as a video game rivaled actual cinema experiences for me. That's an amazing feat. A lot of improvements from the first which felt like an escort mission throughout. I enjoyed 9/10

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. A game with pretty great gameplay but a mediocre story. They killed off Joel so early in the series just so they can dangle flashback scenes just to make you feel sad is just is ridiculous. I would have at least wanted to see some note of those moments before killing Joel off. Forcing you play as Abby for the whole second half of the game was a stupid decision on their part. They don't make her a likeable so you'd actually want to play as her at all before forcing you to. She's an adulterer with no remorse for killing Joel right after he saved her. I know Joel's crimes were atrocious but so are abby's and the whole WLF's. Pulling the whole: "look how relatable and human these **** are... you know the ones who slaughtered people and whole towns. But look they've got dogs, families, kids, and schools. Ooo they didn't kill Ellie and Tommy because they weren't targeting them so they must be good people" even though they're warmongers who've gotten an entire town that looks so impossibly perfect and pristine that its warmonger influences nowhere to be seen in it was so unbelievable that it just left a bad taste in my mouth. I understand the overall message, the execution was just awful. Thought I don't believe I don't believe my score should be as low as it is, I think Naughty Dog needs to get the message across that due to their track record and long 4+ year gaps they need to be held at a higher standard to what we ended up with this dissapointing game. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Expand

It is compelling in its own unique way, in DIRECT contrast to the first game. To continue the story of our beloved duo after the end of the first game was a joy and a dream for I and im sure millions of other fans. But because of this same love, I can see why many people argue the sequel disrespects Joel and Ellie. I just think Naughty Dog continued the story in the most realistic and likely way, rather than the way fans were praying and wishing to see. Its a brutal story of revenge. Just because it doesn't follow your prenotion of what a story should be doesn't make it "awful story-telling" and even worse "ruins the whole game". Another thing that pisses me off is when people say there are plot holes, but then fail to mention said plot holes. Maybe i am wrong, but I don't think there are any serious or major plot holes. That's my 2 cents, hopefully I don't get ddosed or death threats but you know how it goes. Expand

The last of us 2 is not what I expected and definitely doesn't fill my cravings for a satisfying sequel to the amazing first game.
The sound design is actually one of the better aspects of this game. The ost is on par with the first game, with the acoustic performances and the slow country style music. The movie thriller style progressing music was also a good addition. The game is pretty long, takes you about 25 hours to complete with moderate roaming around. There is no multiplayer or extra mode but you can redo any encounter without actually playing through the chapter all over again. There is also a new game plus option to play through the story again with the gear you collected on a higher difficulty.
The next best aspect along with sound are the graphics and the overall fidelity. The level designs and structures are all very highly detailed. This is probably the best work naughty dog has put out yet in terms of the technical aspects. The infected design, the NPC design, the foliage, the buildings and the animals in the game all look phenomenal. There is no doubt this is one of the best looking games on the ps4 hands down. My only complaints might be the sometime blurry textures and the always on film grain takes out clarity.
The first half of the game I was actually enjoying playing through this game with it's somewhat of a sandbox style gameplay. But as I progressed further I started to get bored from it and it became very repetitive. Things I liked about the combat was tight encounters in which you had to shuffle around with your gear, the addition of dogs adds a flare of tension but it sucks to kill them poor things, the dodge and jump buttons allow for maneuverability and layers of level design e.g different floors in a building, several skills that can be rewarding for making the game slightly easier, weapons are quite different and each pack a different punch and strategizing to set up traps and take on stealth. The game also features quite more side content and exploration options to find upgrades, supplies and collectable items to add a much needed open feel to a game like this. The A.I is not bad but it certainly isn't great, the enemies do react to their surroundings by calling out names of their fallen comrades but still they go and do the same mistakes that got them killed in the first place. The game isn't very challenging as well as you have so much at your disposal with plenty of ammo and you always have supplies to craft med kits. The hand to hand fights in this game are a joke as it's just you doing the same exact pattern like a kindergarten child over and over again until the enemy dies. There are some memorable set pieces with vehicles and the infected which might be worth playing again. Overall the gameplay is improved but isn't very strong compared to other games out now and gets very boring, tedious and repetitive.
The story is all over the place, the game tries very hard for you to feel bad about some characters and fails miserably. This game also made me feel a lot of times why the hell am I even doing this and what's the point of this, especially at the ending. The new characters are boring, dull, generic and cringeworthy that you never care about them ever. The game also forces you to play through the main villain of the game for so long. The decisions they took are very controversial and may be good plot points but the way things are paced and handled they mess up big time. The game could get a lot better if they shuffled some things out and ran it differently. The thing I hate the most is the fact that the game forces unlikable characters down your throat and drags to long to make sure you swallow it like a good boy. The story goes out so long and a point comes when you are like just end this BS already I have better things to do I don't care who dies or what happens. At the ending you are left with hating yourself for wasting so much time for a turning event but all you get is some foreshadowed BS. There is one scene …. A sex scene that made my eyes pop out and leave the country because they were mad what I just saw through them. The main protagonist Abby looks like a total steroid she hulk Godzilla of a woman and her body is no doubt made like a man with a woman's face and voice to it. There are death scenes which are rushed and some of them have zero weight to them like WTF the original game had so much emotional impact from them.
The Last of us 2 is the most disappointing game I ever played in my life. The original was one of my top 10 favourite games of all time and it absolutely demolished my heart to see how it treats its fans. This is a game that gets progressively boring and repetitive as you play and the story is an absolute dumpster fire. It looks pretty, the sound design is great and some set pieces are good but overall is not a very great and fulfilling package. It is probably the worst game Naughty dog and Niel Druckman has ever put out.

My biggest issue with the game is the same reason why a lot of people are hating the game, I will not spoil it here but honestly the people hating the game have a point.
But I could never call it a bad game, honestly it's an amazing game.
But its biggest enemy it's PART1, The love people have for the first game it's the reason the story is not being well received by many, because the plot in PART2 goes into a completely different direction than the last game. And honestly it's very reasonable that so many people are disliking the story.
But after analyzing the game a lot, playing it for a second time and watching a lot of reactions by different streamers online, I do think the game and the story do deliver it just that the direction that took is not what many of us wanted.
But I can not call it bad. In my opinion it is really good, and I think it's worth playing and having the experience for yourself, it's dark, it's vengeful and immersive. However, it is harsh when it comes around the last game and if you do love the last game (just like I do) there is a big possibility you don't like the story.
But I still believe it's worth playing.

After waiting a long time for a sequel, this game was a HUGE DISAPPOINTMENT. Part of why I like this game was because of the infected enemies, and in this sequel they barely play any role. It's almost as if these developers hated the developers that made the first one. Do not waste your money and save it for something else.

But if you try and manage to accept the subliminal and not so subtle messages as a fact that the world has gone awry and that people have the need to have somewhere or someone to belong to as their own way out, then...
