This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Anyone who gives this game a low rating didn’t get the point of the game. It’s easy to dehumanize your enemies and kill them without thought- it’s easy to seek revenge and live in hate. It’s harder to let go and forgive. Both sides of the story were done beautifully and by the last major fight scene I was so torn and upset— I didn’t want to lose anyone and I saw each’s motivations. This game deserves a round of applause. Expand

I get that some fans are upset about the early death of Joel, but it drove a powerful narrative and forces you to re-evaluate his actions at the end of the first game. Very engaging story, phenomenal visuals, and robust gameplay. Expand

A game isn't bad because it doesn't have a story that leaves you feeling happy and light when finishing it. This game does things that have never been done before and has revealed a lot about gamers as a whole. Naughty Dog are brave and worthy of respect

The story is well written with interesting main characters with their own moral and development through the game and the ending is AMAZING, coherent and SAD, THERE ARE NO PLOT HOLES and the stupid haters are spreading this lie for no reason. The only problem I had with the plot is they way it is shown, some flashbacks are a little bit long and shown in inappropriate scenes, so I think I would give an 9/10 because of this.( I gave 10 cause a lot of stupid haters are bombing negative reviews and they don't even played the game) Expand

I don't know what people are so mad about, sure the middle of the game is slow and the main antagonistic is not really fun to play as/care about but jeeez is the story and the ending amazing and deserves a 10/10 just for that, my favorite story driven game of all time. Please at least try the game for yourself... you won't regret it...

ANYWAY this is quite honestly my second favourite game of this generation (coming just after Uncharted 4) This game fully encapsulates how dark and brutal and horrific the world truly is and can be. This game is about hate and how it eats you inside, and it truly, absolutely champions those themes with a story that is rich, complex and engaging as all hell. This game forces you and its characters onto the absolute cusp of breaking down, and maybe even pushes you over the edge a couple times.

It's bold, it takes risks and it's not a rehash of the first one. It's sad that the fanbase is going full Star Wars on this one but ignore the fanbase and think about what you're seeing and what it means.

The gameplay is 10/10 as I've never seen a game play so smooth in 30fps, it's mental! The story, unlike some people who didn't undestand it are saying, is a piece of art (10/10) , it teaches us values at the same time it plays with our feelings. What other game does that?? (The Last of Us "part 1" doesn't count*)

It has its flaws. However it is just an incredible game with a really interesting narrative. It basically gets rid of the stupid hero and villain moral of every script in videogames. That's why people got tilt.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Well, a lot has already been said about this game, much of it a clumsy, repetitive, awkward pounding of trite ideas, to the point where I have to tune it out just to keep my sanity. Which for me is a perfect metaphor for the narrative style of this game. I will preface this by saying, I really, really wanted to like this game. I gave it every chance, overlooking questionable decisions early on because I just wanted to really like it. I was totally on board for like the first 8 hours. I really was. But ultimately, whereas I didn't hate it, I didn't like it. It just .... was something I did for 25 hours. Long before it ended, I was done. Well, let's go with some positives, and yes, there are a lot; the world we inhabit is stunning. Amazing. How it looks, how it sounds, and how it feels to be in it. The AI is just awesome. Responsive, smart, and the Seraphites (although a pretty obvious rip off of the Walking Dead with the whistles and all) were a fun new wrinkle to deal with. The gameplay is fine, what I expected, and definitely serves the game well enough that I had no issues with it, though I won't say it broke any new ground, except maybe the prone movement was cool. Some of the new characters I liked a lot, and almost wish we could have seen more of Dina, Lev, and Jessie. The acting is top notch, even when the writing fails it. I'd even say the acting (and the animations that accompany it) saves parts of this game. Some of the cutscenes/flashbacks were very well done, and actually moved me. The final scene with Joel and Ellie makes me long for what the game could have been. But ultimately, this game is not about combat, or multi player, or any of that, this game was going to sink or swim on it's story. If you are going to take bold risks with storytelling, you have to craft it perfectly, be incredibly skilled as to how to tell a compelling story without letting me know what you're doing, without these "bold ideas" getting in the way of my involvement with the narrative. Instead, we end up completely trapped by it, with cheap manipulative pandering, and relentlessly pounded by an annoyingly repetitive, clumsy idea that SEE ABBY HAS A STORY TOO SHE ISN'T BAD SHE HAS A DOG GET IT SEE GET IT. Someone said it was like there was a neon sign in the back of each of Abby's scenes that said "PLEASE LIKE HER THE SCRIPT REALLY NEEDS YOU TO". I almost punched my screen when Yara says "oh Abby, you're such a good person". The repetitiveness and clumsiness insulted me, and ultimately bored me. It's not like it was a bad idea in concept; but it kinda felt like the writers had this idea, without the skills or craftsmanship to pull it off gracefully, and just went with cheap parlor tricks to manipulate us rather than a great story/character to involve us. I could see the themes they wanted to explore as a backdrop to tell a great story; with the right handling, it could work. But not AS the story. I mean, if you want to explore revenge, forgiveness and the cost of it all, OK, not that interesting, but OK, not awful either. But it just isn't sturdy enough to support the entire story on it's own, without anything else to prop it up, and eventually, the narrative buckles under that weight. It's almost like they wrote this as an exercise, something a 2nd year English class would do, "change the perspective of the story to make us sympathize with a previously hated character". This game would likely get a B- on that paper. They got so wrapped up in the theme, and the ideas, and the twists, and being all clever; they forget to tell a good story. I gotta admit, I was in shock when I found myself shouting at my screen, mocking the dialogue, Rocky Horror style, so relentless and clumsy was their attempt to make me "relate to Abby". But the real disaster there is; it took me out of the game. I was no longer in the game, but just watching it. I have to admit; that kind of deflated me a bit, because I really wanted to like this game a lot. All that said, in comparison to other games, it is not a bad game. At all. I applaud them taking the chance, and like I said, it looks and sounds amazing. It has it's positives. It gets a 7, because with they attempted, and how well they do parts of it, I have to grade it on that scale. But weirdly, sadly, and surprisingly, after years of anxiously waiting for this game, the one thing I did not think I would say after playing The Last of Us 2. I don't care if they make another one. And that kinda sucks. Expand

    Graphics on my Pro: 9/10
Story: 9/10... it made me mad, sad, happy and silently watch the credits go by reflecting on the story that Naughty Dog wrote.
    Controls: 9/10
    Characters: 10/10

Now to address the massive amount of homophobic trolls giving this game a 0 just because the game has a gay character is sad and hurts the gaming industry entirely.. (seriously over 115,000 reviews when Part one currently only has a total of 22,000 reviews including the Remastered).
We begged Naughty Dog to make a part 2 and how does the community thank them? By giving over 50,000 negative reviews, threaten the voice actors/actresses with violence and death threats, accusing Naughty Dog of false advertising??? and making anti-Semitic comments towards the director.
This game deserves more than a 5.2 average score (currently), let's stop the hate and trolling... we as gamers are better than that.
Thank you Naughty Dog and thank you to those who actually played and finished the game before giving the review.

2.I feel it was interesting to understand Abbies back story and reflect on Joel’s actions but over 10 hours of playing as Abby, why ,we wanted Ellie or Joel for it all.Not someone we don’t even know. Also we didn’t need that s## scene we know it’s a 18 but we didn’t want that.

3.There are videos online of Neil Druckmann saying you don’t have to kill dogs, that was a lie also the backlash he is doing saying we are homophobic or trans-phobic just for not liking the game. Stop being one of these teen girls believing you can end racism with just posting a black feed on Instagram. 4. Laura Bailey was the voice actor of Abby just because we hate her does not mean the voice actor should get death threats. We are better than this people.

    5. Sony how could you allow that ending and how can you message a review website (polygon I think it was called) and say you disagree with their review, it’s called a review not what ever Sony wants it to be called.

The Last of Us 2 is a wild ride full of gut-wrenching pain, witty banter, and a harrowing tale of revenge, and the rot it leaves in its wake. The Last of Us 2 sets out to drive a message deep into the player, and my God it delivers.

That brings me to the recent controversy surrounding this game. As well as it's unjust and unwarranted review bombing. It makes me sick to see so much work, and effort being spat on, and hated by so many, for such a stupid reason. Even if you choose to dislike the title based on one narrative desition made early on in the game. You have to respect the effort, and love that Naughty Dog put into their game. So many poured everything they had into this title. To see it being treated like this is incredibly heartbreaking. If you're under the impression that this game is bad, based on the influx of negative reviews, I just want you to know. The game is wonderful and creates a world just as morbidly beautiful as the original. Do not let these unfounded reviews sway you away from this awesome experience.

But if you try and manage to accept the subliminal and not so subtle messages as a fact that the world has gone awry and that people have the need to have somewhere or someone to belong to as their own way out, then...
