There's no problem for me with the character and the overall arch. It works and make sense.

On the gameplay side, it's more like everything Naughty Dog has perfected in this generation of console, they bring it on the table then expand it. The combat is fierce, whether you go gun blazing or like me, I prefer stealth, every encounter both with humans or infected will make your heart pounding literally sometimes makes you shook after it.

I love this game, though I thing that come to mind that this game will feel a bit draggy toward the final hours. Though I get the intent of the developers on why they doing that, I feel that it can be more compact. Anyway, it's 9/10, the game of this generation and a beautiful swan song for PS4.

Just finished the game, what an incredible story! These games, from the beginning of the first one to the end of the second are absolutely perfect. One of my favourite features is the moral ambiguity, no one here is good or bad but everyone is human. Absolutely brilliant.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The Last of Us Part 2 is the best game of this generation for me.

The graphics are amazing, the colors, the characters expressions and body acting was captured with perfection!
The final confrontation between Abby and Ellie, the way they moved, their eyes, the expression in them was breath taking, heart breaking!!!!

The jogability and usability of the controls and game, visual and sound options are truly amazing.

The voice acting is absolute perfection.

The story brakes my heart, but also brought me so much joy and the end, it leaves the door open for a Part 3, and I really hope ND does it too.

It is a game with a dark story, an adult/mature one that will not endear itself to everyone.

The basic idea of the story is simple: When Seeking Revenge, you should dig 2 graves and Abandon Hope All Ye Who Enter Here (referring to the path of Revenge)

It is a story of revenge, fury but also of hope, love, forgiveness and redemption.

I loved that ND uses Abby's story to bring the Story of the Last of Us full cycle and to trace a parallel with Ellie's and Joel's. Joel's redemption and Ellie's fall from grace.

As Joel found his redemption taking care and, after, caring for Ellie like a daughter, so does Abby with Lev and Yara, before both Joel and Abby were not the best of people, far from it but in caring for a kid made them slowly change and "start seeking the light again", to try and become a better person.

In Joel's case that meant, sadly, having to kill the Fireflies in their main base in order to be able to save Ellie's life.

In Abby's case that meant, sadly after she killed Joel, she had to be saved from the Scars by 2 kids in order to care for their well being, something that later, took her to do unimaginable things before to get the necessary medic kit so Yara could live.

And what an amazing road she took...the Ground Zero chapter's infected she had to fight was one of the most amazing things in games I ever saw.

Ellie's road on the other hand was so heartbreaking because we know her, we know her and Joel from the Last of Us, their rode, their pain, their bound with each other was our bond to them in the first game, we share her grief and hope to get back at Abby's group.

But ND made us see and share on Abby's story too, and her friends, at the end we also see them for the flawed people they are, with good and bad, and feel sad that the path to revenge takes everything good from Ellie, we see the trauma she feels, the price she pays after killing everyone of them, Ellie's show when she discovered that she killed a pregnant woman, and the price she pays again after Tommy guilt trip her to go after Abby again, but at last, right at the last moment.

I am glad that she could find a way to try, just maybe, one day, forgive Abby, and see that she is not so different from Joel at that moment, and as she said to Joel that she would like to try to forgive him for not letting the Fireflies sacrifice her life in search of a cure, that maybe someday she would like to try and forgive Abby to, if nothing else because Allie herself would not be able to live with herself after killing so many, and that killing Abby would not fix anything, just make everything more miserable.

I cried so much during this game, and felt joy, and hope and got crushed.... at the epilogue, I really hope Ellie goes back to Jackson and live her life, maybe find the strength to let go of so much hate.

I cried even more when Ellie tried to play the guitar....even that was taken from her...

In the universe of The Last of Us, as with our own, we can only totally separate "bad guys" from "good guys" a handful of times like the Rattlers gang at the end, a group of evil people that decided to enslave others for personal gain and survival instead of trying to create a community like Jackson (for example) or even the WLF and "Scars", both terribly flawed (and even evil sometimes) groups but not without their good side.

Overall, an awesome game. I love it to bits and will play it again on NG+

The last of us part 2 however is not that game. The last of us part 2 is an absolute dumpster fire. I feel naughty dog did a disservice to its fans of the first game. The trailer was designed in a way to where you can tell the company knew the game wasn't going to be liked. This was a desperate attempt to get sales up and isn't even the worst part. The game in itself is absolutely terrible. The gameplay itself is pretty good but the writing is absolutely terrible. The pacing is off, the game's sequence of events would actually work better in a different order because it's terribly put together. It's fine to kill off a character but if that character is the face of the franchise then don't kill them off in the first 2 hours in the dumbest way you can think of. This game forces you to play as a new character with little to no development and makes the previous protagonists the monsters of the game. You liked the old characters? Hell no you're a terrible homophobic hater who only dislikes the game to get at Neil. The game couldn't have been executed more poorly. In my opinion this game is the biggest waste of 60 dollars but if you HAVE to get it buy a used copy. So many people have returned this piece of crap that the used copies actually rival the new ones. But be aware if you do buy a used or new copy of this game some places are no longer taking returns because the game has come back in droves. Take my advice and steer clear of this game. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The problem with the last of us part II it is not related with it's gameplay mechanics nor with the visual aspect of it. It is solely related with the choice made from the writers for the storytelling. Beyond the ludonarrative dissonance (because videogames) and the obvious political agenda (and which is perfectly fine for me, beyond the fact that they use a shallow use a trans character for the mere fact of being trans). It is the way that naughty dog builds to tell us a story the real problem of this game. Disrespectful treatment of the former main character, and the way that they erase the deep personality of Ellie, becoming a being just driven by revenge. Abby plays the same role a caricature of a person which main goal (to kill Joel) and the way this goal is achieved, is beyond belief in this or in a postapocaliptic world. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I wouldn't normally review a game online because who in the hell cares, but hearing about death threats directed at Laura Bailey and seeing people give this 0/10 has prompted me to make a Metacritic account and even the scales a little bit. This game clearly and unequivocally sets a new benchmark for videogames in terms of story telling (yes, even more so than the first game), characterisation and voice acting. The environments are so lush, haunting and fully-realised that even the details have details (the aquarium and theatre particularly astounded me). Although the gameplay is not quite as perfect as it seems within the first half, it's certainly tight, fun, varied and nuanced. A clear 9/10, probably a 9.5 if I could.

As for the controversy about the plot, the developers are clearly aware of the love people have for the original characters and they do not take Joel's death lightly. In fact, they are using the affection that we have built up by playing the first game to create an incredibly dramatic and epic story that examines violence and the effects it has on people. The characters are able to act so callously only by dehumanising each other, which we become party to. The game initially paints Abby as cruel and evil and we happily murder dozens of her friends after she brutally murders our beloved Joel. But then we see her side, the pain Joel indirectly inflicted on her and the terrible fact that he had the power to save humanity and chose Ellie instead. We understand Joel's actions and the impossible choice he made, but we start to see Abby's point of view and her humanity as well. We see how the WLF are just traumatised ex-soldiers surviving, telling themselves that the "Scars" are sub-human to justify their own violence too. Then later we see Abby confronted with the humanity present in this group also, through her relationship with Lev and Yara. There are of course true psychos in all the human groups, especially amongst the Rattlers it would seem, but Abby has to come to terms with the fact that she has slaughtered dozens of ordinary people who were just trying to survive like her.

We humans clearly have a fascination with violence (I can't deny I had a lot of fun blowing people to kingdom come whilst playing this game) but in truth, we really don't have much of a stomach for the reality of it. As with any war, we're sold violence by being told that the nasty foreign man on the other end of the gun is worth less than us. When we're faced with the enemy's humanity, we see ourselves and then violence doesn't come half as easily. Some choose to acknowledge this and bear the horror instead of the cognitive dissonance, some continue to lie to themselves to feel ok, but we all respond in some way. The incredibly detailed and nuanced facial animations in this game, and the fact that you literally embody both sides of the fight, conveys the emotions brought about by the inner conflict that violence creates more powerfully than any movie with the same subject matter that I can think of. It's truly next level stuff.

So to those who are giving this game 0 out of 10, grow up and learn to appreciate true craft. If you want the first game, play the first game. If you want a boring rehash, play Call of Duty 58. If you're upset that Ellie's in love with a woman and there's an Asian trans character, snap out of it and realise that only seems strange to you because 99.9% of movies, TV shows and games have featured straight white people exclusively since time immemorial. The lack of self-awareness of people who think these elements are shoe horned in to be "woke" staggers me. And hey, there's still plenty of people in the game just like you to make you feel all special again!

Finally, to the people sending death threats to the voice actor (and even the face and body double!) of Abby, words cannot express how much of a **** you really are. To those lowlifes I somewhat ironically say "May your survival be short and your death be protracted." (Sorry, just doing a little bit of dehumanising of my own to justify my violent words there).

Anyway, it was an honour to play this game, I suggest you do too.

It went something like this: Death usually has no meaning, most of us won't die in any meaningful way, it comes out of nowhere and we are left desperate trying to deal with the loss of a loved one. I believe that the game making us feel this certain way is the main reason I am saying this is a masterpiece.
