What made last of us part 1 beautiful was it’s simplicity and it’s evolving relationship between Ellie and Joel. But for insanely strange reason, they completely destroyed what made the first game so beloved. I still can’t believe that they would deviate from what the first game built up.There’s are so many issues with the story that I could go on for hours about but this is all I feel like typing. Expand

I’m honestly disappointed to have waited 7 years for a sequel to easily my favorite game and have it be this underwhelming. It looks great, they added some cool new gameplay features, and you can tell hard work was put into it. But my god, it’s like the director(s) don’t understand what made the first game such a success. The first game was what cemented to me that video games could tell a moving story. Focus less on the gameplay because the message and story were just that good, and be viable. So, if that’s your formula and the story isn’t good... you’re left with this, the last of us part 2. The plot is full of holes. The story almost completely ignores the emotional attachment to the characters they completely nailed in the first one. The story is a jumbled mess of flashbacks at times that make little sense. If you’re looking for quality story telling to the next part of what happens to Joel and Ellie, I’m afraid you’ll be let down. I don’t know what else to say, how do you go from making one of the most consistent, gritty, popular, thought provoking games of all time to this mediocre, occasionally fun nonsensical story? Expand

Neil Druckmann if you wanted to make a good story on how to break the cycle of violence for this sequel, you should have seen the Pain arc of Naruto Shippuden bro, I believe more that Naruto forgave Nagato for killing Jiraiya after he told him his own pain, than Ellie with Abby, GRAPICHS: 10/10, HISTORY: 5/10...... yes, that's my review

I enjoyed playing as Abby, and I think that playing as her gave us a chance to look into her complex, inner personal life as well. I also think that Joel dying the way he did was a good choice, and I think it spoke to the way that characters in these games, many times white and male, are able to commit horrible acts and still get out of it unscathed. I liked the ending and thought that it was really the only way that the story could end, given what the overall trajectory of the plot had been. We needed to play as Ellie, in a context where it was just get and Abby and she had the upper hand, so that she could forgive Abby and grow from it. We were never given that context before, so it was really the only way that it could end. Also, the fact that Ellie ended up alone, with the one thing that Joel left him, which was being able to play the guitar, gone that again re-enforces the theme here that you can get revenge, but at the end the consequences of your actions will follow. The same can be said with Abby, as she literally lost her home, her friends, and the love of her life, all brought up because of her need for revenge. The game is devastating and cruel and left me feeling sad for days after I finished it, but it makes sense. Life is apathetic towards us, and our actions will bite us in the ass, no matter who we are. Ellie didn't get the end that we wanted for her, but she got the end that she deserved, and I think that is something to be appreciated. Expand

To clear things up people don’t hate this game because the female main lead is gay if that was true TLOU and TLOU left behind would have gotten the same bad reviews as this game has

Despite some excellent visuals, audio & bold narrative decisions, "The Last of Us Part II" commits the ultimate video game sin - simply being nowhere near what one would call fun. It is not a clever plot twist, it is a lazy tactic that requires no real thought. What is the audience expecting to happen? Well let's have Brandon stark be king. You make a revenge game where some one murders hundreds of thousands of people just to get a chance to get revenge against the person who beat and tortured your loved one to death. Then call it a day right when you get a chance to kill them. Cause 1001 bodies is too many. Not to mention why would ellie drop everything to go murder this person not once but twice. Risking her life, jeopardizing her relationship, and threatening retaliation on every one she loved. Makes no sense. Expand

As a fan of the original game, what made that game amazing was the chemistry between Joel and Ellie, who he took under his wing and basically taught her the essentials of survival in the world they lived in. Seeing him go from seeing her as a pest to loving her like his own daughter was the climax of that game. Last of Us 2 did a disservice to Joel and to Ellie. Sure, the story was decent, as it kind of reminded me of a movie sort of plot but it just doesn’t work. I don’t think anyone wanted to play as Abby, like she killed the main character of the first game! Were we supposed to feel sorry for Abby, and playing as her was supposed to justify her actions?? I felt it was a waste of time. In the end, Abby gets what she wants and Ellie is left alone without Joel, Dina and is left to wonder by herself. There is no closure for her and it was just a sad way to end the game after so much was put into Ellie and Joel in the first game. Just wow Expand

I don’t understand how people dislike the story- maybe because Part 1 was so complete and solid, it didn’t necessarily Need a sequel.

I understand people’s critique of it being a simple revenge story. But after Joel’s death, I wanted revenge too. I hated Abby.

But then something changed, when I played as Abby. I just wanted to stop playing so neither of them died. But I didn’t stop. And Naughty Dog rewarded me with a beautifully bleak story.

The gameplay is solid, if not a little too familiar for its own good. But the story was perfect in my opinion.

Seems like making a politically correct videogame these days is more important than making a fun, enjoyable, coherent game. I'm not saying that you don't have to play this game, but you might want to get a refund after doing it. In this aspect TLOU2 Is pretty comparable to Warcraft III: Reforged in terms of how "well" it does his job at giving us hopes and dreams just to be crushed by unfinished works and promises that couldn't be delivered. So to summarize up I just wanna say ND=Blizzard+Activision.

PS. And don't even get me started on that **** attitude from the devs. One or two in particular

The Last of Us Part II is the high point of the PlayStation 4. The plot is controversial, but the game is the incredibly addictive adventure of Ellie, from which it is impossible to pull away from the opening and to the very end.

Not everyone is going to enjoy the motives of The Last of Us Part II. But if you try and manage to accept the subliminal and not so subtle messages as a fact that the world has gone awry and that people have the need to have somewhere or someone to belong to as their own way out, then... You will witness the boundaries of gaming expand. You will witness a true masterpiece.
