This on the level of Game Of Thrones series finale disappointment. I don't mind about the political, trans, SJW elements, or even the death of a character. I thought they were all brave and engaging choices. The visuals/art of the game are incredible as well. Nothing wrong with the technical. What I have a problem is the lazy, heavy handed, hollow, and failed narrative it TRIES to pull off at the end. It blows my mind that they couldn't see this coming. Did they really think they could introduce us to a new character/narrative that is SOO good that we forget what we fell in love with in the first game and are willing to forgive the destruction of that. If Neil/ND are actually going to take their own 'moral of the story' from this game, then there shouldn't be a Part 3 or any humans dying in the hands of our protagonist in any of their games from now on. They killed their own franchise. And their fanbase. Unforgivable. Expand

Great game with gorgeous graphics and animations. Gameplay is solid and very good. Never been so conflicted between 2 main characters, Abby and Ellie are real humans from flesh and blood and it's so well written. Only downside are the side characters, they don't flesh them out so much like in the first game.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I just finished the game. It's a wonderful game to me personally. The beginning and the ending are so powerful. It's a game with so many facets. The characters have so many facets. I have been trying to write something, but I have been keeping fighting against myself about what I wrote and at the end just deleted most of it. But there's one thing I'm sure, it's such a great moment to me when Ellie found the strengh of forgiveness at the end. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Gameplay: The gameplay in the last of us part 2 is brutal, dirty and feels like you're fighting for you're life in every encounter. The AI is incredibly smart and can plan coordinated attacks on you as well as outflank you, when I was playing on survivor mode I felt forced to play aggressive as if I stayed in one spot enemies would quickly surround you. It is an immersive experience because of these mechanics as well as the horrific screams when you dismember an enemy or the cries of anger when you kill one of their friends. I recommend playing on survivor. 10/10

Graphics; Absolutely stellar, jaw dropping, and at times almost feels photorealistic. 10/10

Story: This aspect of the game is the most polarizing and controversial, and is the main reason of the negative reviews. The point of the game is not merely revenge is bad, as many players say it is, I'd like it to compare it too the final scene in "Come and See". In which the main character fueled by hate comes to understand that we are all victims of our environment, Abby is not inherently evil, the world she lives in forced her to be evil to survive, just like has happened in Ellies and Joels storylines, but as we play with Abby we see that she is not simply Joels killer, she is also a daughter to a murdered father, friend, lover and just as human as Ellie, she is a good person which had to make bad decisions. In other words its not the people who are evil it is the world they live in that turns evil into a virtue, almost a condition for surviving. When I understood this it was easier to slowly forgive Abby as each time we played as here we were seeing another layer of her, and by the end I actually enjoyed playing as Abby more than I enjoyed playing as Ellie. Whether you liked the game or not comes down to if you could forgive Abby or not, you're in the same boat as Ellie, so thats why I think whether to spare Abby or not should be up to the players, and not determined by the game, simply because a lot pop people could not forgive Abby, in my case I did and the decision Ellie made was coherent with my own, but a lot of people wanted Abby dead and just had to see their character forgive them. So in conclusion the story is a masterpiece if you can slowly forgive Abby thought the game. But naughty dog should have allowed you to decide. 8/10

It was ok. Gameplay is great, some of the new open world aspects (quickly abandoned) are great, weapons and fighting are great, exploring is great, opening is great. ... So why only 6/10? The story devolves so quickly, the player is pushed into a nonsensical duality motif for which, why ruin the flow of the story and the well established characters with such an unneeded change of pace?

The atmosphere is absolutely top notch along with the stunning graphics that will have you trying for screenshot opportunities for hours. The story is impossible to comprehend in terms of how good it is. But in my opinion the immersive gameplay drowns out the story. TLOU2 should easily be considered for GOTY.

This game is not for everyone, it is very bleak, intense and even emotionally draining at times. If you played and liked the first one, which was also one of the most intense games there was story wise, you know what kind of story you should expect.

It is a game in which you should really invest time and effort, you should listen to the conversations, read Ellie’s journal, look around and definitely not rush it or play it whilst being distracted.
Graphics and gameplay wise, it’s the smoothest game I’ve ever experienced. It is extremely realistic and makes for an immersive experience like no other. It is extremely polished, and the amount of attention to detail is mind blowing.

The realness of it might scare some away, it is not a cliché good vs bad story, it is not always linear and it explores a lot of tough themes. But overall, that makes its impact bigger than any game I’ve ever played, and it pushes you to new places. So, if you play it you should keep an open mind, and ask yourself why they decided for the story to go this or that way, why you feel this and that emotion and so on. Although most scenes are far from pleasant and it might not be the ending you would want, it makes for a much more real, interesting and raw story. They make you question everything you thought about such and such character, their decisions and actions, they make you empathize with people you never thought you would, and deliver an ending that has many layers to it.
If you want a game that’s all about shooting and killing zombies, this is not for you. If you want a happy ending, more cliché/typical revenge story, this is not for you. If you want something light and fun to distract you this is definitely not for you. But if you want a beautifully layered complex story, that will immerse you to a whole new level, that will make you cry, laugh, be terrified, be angry, be happy; if you want to experience next level graphics and gameplay, if you want to witness insanely good acting, and if you want to test yourself, this is definitely worth it.

This is by far the game that made me feel the most intense emotions I have ever felt in a game before, and for that, I applaud Naughty Dog. They went for it, they went where no one else dares to go, and although not always a comfortable experience, it was one of the most memorable experience I’ve had, and feel very blessed I got to experience it.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The Last of Us Part II is a classic sequel that has the almost impossible ahead of it: to match or, if possible, to overcome the original game. Unfortunately, given the fantastic and complex story that the first game was able to tell, this one would probably not have surpassed this milestone anyway, even if it were flawless - and it is really far from that. My simple verdict on the game is: TLOU 2 is a perfect craftsmanship that pays off for some bad story decisions.

I'll start with what probably bites everyone the most from the beginning: the death of Joel. A lot of people say they don't mind the twist as such, but they are dissatisfied with the circumstances - that an experienced and hardened survivor would not be so foolishly trapped, that he would not tell his name to a gang of armed unknown thugs, and so on… however, I do not agree with this. Joel's name was revealed by Tommy, who had always been a little naive, and I don't think they had any other choice of escaping from the rolling hordes of infected than to trust temporary comrades, albeit foreigners. No, in terms of logic, everything is fine. I'm just bothered with that it even happened.

Joel's relationship with Ellie was at least 90% of all TLOU. That was the magic, the geniality of the story. While playing, I was not looking forward to killing the infected or exploring beautifully depicted natural locations, but to more and more interactions and verbal skirmishes between the two main characters. By destroying this basic pillar, the game loses at least half of the interesting things.

Fortunately, this gloomy hundred-times boiled journey of revenge is saved by a new addition to the party - Dina. Or not? Dina is a well-written and well-drawn character, but she simply does not have the care and kindness uncompromisingly hidden under the mask of Joel's harsh inaccessibility. I didn't enjoy her dialogues with Ellie for the most part, and many times did she seemed to me as a story-imposed love object. And although I wasn't thrilled by it at first, I begin to appreciate the innocent Riley, who had at least some depth of character.

Unfortunately, most of the other characters aren't much better off either. The interesting Maria has practically zero space, Jesse shows up almost halfway through the game and ends just as quickly, the only remaining fighter from the Miller family is moved to the other track and it's a shame to talk about Abby at all - she is perhaps the least likeable character, which I have met so far in the games. So in the end, Ellie has to pull it all by herself again.

The second half of the game focuses on Abby and wants to show us her human side, that not all bad guys are bad and that they have their reasons - which doesn't work for four reasons: (1) Because when you just introduce someone as absolute evil, rotten bastard who beats your brain out of your favorite character, you can't expect everyone to forgive him for a few intentionally touching flashbacks. I just don't want to play as a jerk that I still hate just as much no matter how hard the game tries to make me like it. (2) Because the game tries to convince you by force that everyone who used to be "good" is somehow bad and evil - including Joel and Ellie. In fact, he's trying to make you stop loving Joel, or at least start doubting him. But I don't want to - I don't want anyone to ruin the image I created about him. I don't want to think that Abby´s dad was just an innocent doctor and Joel the bastard who killed him without mercy - he may have been a nice guy, but he was also an idiot who went with a scalpel against an armed man. If he didn't intervene like the other doctors, he could have survived… (3) Because then the game loses even the weak drive it had until then: if Abby isn't bad, then who is the villain? So who do we really want to kill? What do we want to achieve? They are all so terribly forced in shades of gray that the game lacks real evil.

In the whole game, I really liked only flashbacks to Ellie's past - especially "Birthday Gift". That was all I wanted from the game, and I don't think I was alone.

And what about the end? The ending is a chapter in itself, but I'll just say that Neil Druckmann's explanation "We had to let Ellie spare Abby to stay human" comes to me at least smiling. So Ellie kills dozens, hundreds of people along the way - cuts her necks, stabs in the stomach, shoots brains - kills a pregnant woman - but will she stay human if she doesn't kill the biggest scum in the game, which is directly responsible for all her suffering? Somewhere I read the analogy that it is as if Thanos found all the stones, but did not snap. Just whaaat? AT MINIMUM I would give a choice to kill/spare when it already has to be, but I find the ending as it is now a disappointment. The fact that the end of first game came to me as an absolutely brilliant and logical conclusion, perhaps one of the best in video game history, is this a decent armband.
