This game is fantastic, the characters and setting are vastly more immersive than the first. The emotions connecting the characters, feels very real. The story they are trying to tell involves a lot of complex emotions. I understand some plot points have been hotly contended but in order to tell this kind of a story it needs to be done. I’ve often find myself both very hopeful and very Machiavellian in regards to humanity and society. This story happens to appeal to that very nature. The gameplay is very fun and tense when it needed to be. I couldn’t be happier with the way it has turned out and I see the reactions from angry gamers about the controversial plot point as a testament to how well written these characters are. The world is fleshed out really well the environment are open and linear which is perfect. The score is somber and thoughtful and I genuinely got lost in the music when it would kick in and exhilarated when it Would ramp up for a fight. The enemies are expertly crafted and will go down as some of the best enemy concepts ever, truly terrifying.

Naughty dog has always delivered thee best games, The Jak and Daxter series was arguably one of my favourite game series and uncharted is one of the best game series ever made. The last of part II has ensured that the PS4s life cycle is going to end stronger than ever. Congratulations to Naughty Dog I cant wait for the future games from you.

Everything is perfect about this game. The story, the thrill, the adrenaline, the emotions, the soundtrack, facial animations (!!!, btw the best I've seen to date in a video game). This is the game that will stay in my memory forever, some particular moments. The art in its purest form. Thank You, Naughty Dog!

Most visually striking game outside PC. Combat is better than original, adding dodge, jump, and prone. Dialogue, music, and story all build on and improve on TLOU.

Don't let all the butthurt snowflakes deter you. It's a masterpiece plain and simple. If only it were the other way around and Ellie died and Joel got revenge for her, then all these self-loathing women-hating basement-dwellers would be prematurely cumming on their waifus.

It's really nice and balanced to see that you're character isn't the 'ultimate superwoman'. The story is cool, you have to be open-minded. If you've liked the original, I personally think this sequel is a must-have. And yes, some plot twists may not be the ones you prefer... One of the best games I've played in the last couple of years. Gameplay is solid and the story is unexpected and at times brilliant. Felt like it could have ended a bit sooner, but at the same time it felt appropriate to have the last scene feel like such a struggle.

Probably the best game I've ever played. It was incredibly dark, and for that reason I'm not sure I can say it's my favorite game , but it was so well-crafted that I was just continually in awe. The characters, at least the main characters, feel so authentic - thanks to amazing voice acting, really in-depth writing (so many small conversations), and sheer graphical excellence. The story itself is somber and disturbing, but it sucks you in emotionally. The game play itself is more nuanced and satisfying than any Naughty Dog game before it, and they set the bar pretty high. This game proves video games can be something radically more than they've been before.

I don't think anybody who didn't appreciate the first game would ever like this one. That first game was dark and uncomfortable too - not exactly the kind of game you "like." This game doubles down on everything: the characters, the story, the darkness, the discomfort, the horror... but it does it so well, it's hard to deny it's mastery of the art form.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The Last of Us 2 had a big challenge ahead of them to follow in the footsteps of the first game, a game revered for its storytelling, graphics, gameplay, and characters. And it did not disappoint, unless you came into this game with a closed mind, expecting the story you wished they wrote. But they did not write the game you think you wanted, there are no "only happens in a movie" moments. There is no breaking of realism. You get pure, deep and realistic people for characters, in a raw, intense story. The first game is told from the perspective of Joel and Ellie, the good guys. But the second game plays on that, Joel, you seemingly has only ever had the interests of Ellie's and those closest to him in mind. The story unravels that, showing the lies, deceit, manipulation, and the senseless murder of the man who may have been able to end the infection once and for all. We get emotional cutscenes and flashbacks, to the things that mattered most to Ellie, why she idolized Joel, and grew up wanting to be like him, to the scenes of her discovering his lies about what happened in the hospital. Her resentment for him, for the person she had once held so dear. Ellie's journey in this game is how she found a way to exorcise the demon that way Joel, as good as his intentions may have seemed while playing him in the first game. They were selfish and manipulative to others.

Ellie's story sees her struggle with that to the very last moments of the game.

Abby's arch, the one you're supposed to hate for brutally killing off the beloved main character of the first game. Is a roller coaster. A good one. Her story has deep roots, amazing character development for her, and if you catch the details of the game, it really makes you empathize with her, she's not a bad person at all, She's just someone that wants to bring her father's killer to justice. She does so, without leaving a trail of other dead bodies behind, a stark difference to Ellie's approach, which as quoted by Ellie herself, were acts that she thought Joel would have done, that is why she needs to.

No, Abby is not the villain, but the light in the story. Her consistent humanity keeps surfacing over and over again. When she hears a story that one of her best friends his missing after supposedly killing another WLF member. She doesn't just take that and let it go, but she cares deeply to seek out the truth and make sure her friend is okay. She risks losing the safety of being a WLF for a few different characters, even risks her life, facing her greatest fear several times, and encountering the best boss baddie of the game. Through her arch, she sees the innocence of some children Seraphites, willing to help them after they save her life as she is nearing a gruesome death. Never faltering in her morals, a Seraphite and her eventually ends the story in a reminiscent way to how Ellie and Joel ended the story of the first game. Poetic.

What makes the writing so great though, is that many of the senseless deaths just happen, as they would. Very true to what we would expect the realism to be. There are hardly heroic deaths in dying moments, though a couple, and none that are just unbelievable, all feel real. The game is written to stay true to entertain you through storytelling rather than the unattainable mind-blowing action moves you'd expect in the Die Hard series.

All in all, this game built on the first game, and pushed a challenging story through, successfully. As long as you're willing and able to see the details in it and not just assume the revenge plot of childish behavior, but actually recognize the perspective. If you miss that, you will probably get caught up on hating Abby for killing Joel. However, if you really do yourself that favor, you're bound to end up seeing Abby as one of the most humane, likeable characters of the series. Both her and Ellie's stories, woven together as they are, have substance. Even more than the first game, and that is saying a lot.

There is a reason professional critics have this game rated so highly. They genuinely played through the game, with an open mind, and were rewarded with an experience from what could possibly be considered the greatest game to date.

The story goes deeper into the moral dilemma of the value of a life and the consequences of our actions. Although the main story revolves again around ellie, the game now gives us the opportunity to know the other side of the story. How Joel's decision had repercussions far beyond from just "saving" Ellie. The game even gives us the opportunity to play as the "enemy", which it definitely adds perspective and complexity to the world built around the original characters.
Usually games give us faceless very bad guys to justify the actions of the epic hero, which makes it easier to kill every one that stand on his way without asking if the guy that we just killed had his own motivations. For me, the bad reviews are from people that got very attached to the original characters, and watching them as the "enemy" is not something that you usually find on games. I also have seen criticism about some changes in the characters' personality, and I admit that some changes seem to be there just for the sake of the game's argument. But if you think about it, the context on which we met Joel for the first time, is very different to where he stands on the second part, he doesn't have the same objectives or even the same perspective about his life. While the story seemed to me to be a very good one, I must admit that the last quest is kind of non sense, but I guess that at the end is just Ellie's brutal revenge story and human nature.

I had strayed from gaming until Covid had relegated people to their houses and I decided to pick this one up. I loved it and felt that it is the first game that truly blurred the line between a video game and an interactive movie. Often times I had taken the point of view that cut scenes detracted from a gaming experience and took away too much time that I would rather be immersed in action. I found myself truly engrossed in this title from beginning to end. I didn't want to put it down. Beautiful graphics, great story, excellent game play, very polished presentation. The Last of Us Part II literally checks all of the boxes. I understand that it was review bombed by those that didn't like the way it handled the main characters that they had grown to love from the first title. Those reviews are completely off base, but to each his own. If you haven't played this and see it sitting in the bargain bin at your local store it is well worth the purchase. A true thrill ride from beginning to end, a video game masterpiece.
