    Drawn out, creatively lazy and a huge middlefinger to the fans. Game is pretty but full of plotholes and contradictions. Easily the worst sequel to a great game. No real story/character development to speak of. Don't let the bought reviews fool you. Nobody liked this and and its naughty dogs only misstep. Avoid at all costs!

    Had to kill a dog. The characters that should die, don't. The characters you love, die. The whole story felt like fanfiction from a teenager that didn't like the ending to The Last of Us part 1 and I had no agency in the development or choices of my character.

    Also, the fact that there were issues being able to see the scenery past the herculean biceps of a wanna-be gangbanger was more    Had to kill a dog. The characters that should die, don't.     This isn't as grounded of a narrative as the original's, but this is Naughty Dog's most ambiguous work; and I kind of love it.

    This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. From false advertisement to poor storytelling, TLoU2 really drops the ball. Most games don't get far by lying in interviews, manipulating advertising to swap characters, adding fake dialogue, and purposely creating new models just to sell a false story that is completely different from the end product because they know the product is poor and is not what the fan base wants. TLoU2 is no exception.

    Couple that with the theme of "revenge is bad" seemingly impacting Ellie and Joel exponentially more than the characters who actually started the cycle of revenge (thus negating the entire "point" of the story and turning it into nothing but a torture... fetish) and potential threats of blackballing for poor critic reviews and you have the makings of a critic darling but a user flop.

    The poor storytelling and lack of narrative cohesiveness would have placed this low to begin with, but the false advertisement and subsequent fake shock by Naughty Dog forces me to give it the lowest score possible.    … Expand

    Finally decided to borrow this game to try out (wasnt gonna pay for this and thank god i didnt), I gave it a 3 score...one for gameplay the second for the graphic and the third for the music all 3 of which was excellent.....but the story, characters, direction, woke s*** the director tried pushing had me disgusted at what had happened to this beloved ip.....the potential thrown away, dontFinally decided to borrow this game to try out (wasnt gonna pay for this and thank god i didnt), I gave it a 3 score...one for gameplay the second for the graphic and the third for the music all 3 of which was excellent.....but the story, characters, direction, woke s*** the director tried pushing had me disgusted at what had happened to this beloved ip.....the potential thrown away, dont pay for this game.     The way the story is constructed is bad. Like so bad it breaks the original. They just HAD TO be ambitious with it, didn't they? You had a golden nugget, and you ruined it. Nobody cared how smart your storytelling you thought was. They cared about the characters. And my opinion, to be clear, has nothing to do with LGBT or politics (before people start pointing fingers).

    First of all Joel is brutally murdered by a childish and annoying character that lately the game makes you play as. Then they try to convince you that forgiveness is better than revenge, BULL****, if Ellie was the one massacred, Joel wouldn't stop until she paid with blood what she made Graphics 9/10 (tbh in 2021 there are way more competitive graphics)
    Music 6/10 (The last of us 1 music is 10 times better than this ones)
    Gameplay 7/10 (not bad, same as TLOU 1)

    As an absolute fanboy of Part 1, I bought this game on release and played it with massive intrepidation following the mixed reviews and rumours. Frankly I thought it was OK.     That being said, nearly a year later, I played it again, this time on grounded+ difficulty. What. An. Experience. In hindsight I notice that whilst the enemies haven't improved since Part 1, the player has access to a whole new arsenal of weapons and abilities, and it gives the player a much greater advantage over at least the infected enemies. This can create a discord between the story and the player's experience as, unlike Part 1 where you played as an experienced, capable man, in Part 2 you are playing as a vulnerable teenager and being able to efficiently despatch enemies with ease makes it difficult to relate to the vulnerability that the game's story is portraying. Playing on grounded+ definitely repaired this.
    After playing Part 2 on the hardest difficulty, I can confidently say I experienced the absolute roller-coaster of emotions that I expected after playing Part 1 and I really felt immersed in the story. What a technical, emotional, masterpiece. Can't wait for Part 3!!!    … Expand

    There are some improvements to the gameplay and new infected enemies that I really appreciate. It’s funny to play like the first game. For me the best of the game is the story. Don’t follow the haters, avoid spoilers, play the game and make your own opinion. Personally I loved all the emotions and contradictions that the game made me feel.     The game has made me think for so long like no other game I’ve played in a while. Abby is a great character and so is Ellie and the game toyed so much with my emotions. Insanely underrated game that only gets hate from homophobes and bigots

Most people critic the story of the game, only saved by the gamplay, but even the gameplay is culprit, since in most of the game your gameplay depends in the story, so you are forced to do and see cruel things that you dont agree with and somehow we are still supposed to be on the side of this evil chataracter.

    At least all this build up should end with Abby getting her comeuppance, which would be a new take in story telling, showing and making you do evil things, essentially making you hate the character to justify her comeuppance in the end, but it isnt the case, even after all that you are left with a hole in your heart, because even by instinct you think Abby is getting whats comming to her, but ends up getting scott free with half thought out excuses, which contradict their character, effectively contradicting themselves on their most basic morals.

    Lastly, shame on all the "game critics" writing biased reviews, unwilling to openly critique any big game, you all should reconsider your job if you are easily influenced by money of a big company, unwilling to voice your and the opinion of the people, its like rewriting history and is prospect for users to never take the critic score to heart, since it is easily swayed by money, and we should listen more to user scores, where they come from our hearts and actual experiences, because we care.    … Expand

    I played the game without seeing the leaks i was excited because i love the last of us part 1 and the remastered game and left behind
    But here....the story is very shallow i tried my best to focus on the story to understand the characters and the story but in the end it's just bad writing
    The new characters are .....well couldn't feel a **** about them i enjoyed manny death and nora death..i couldn't feel anything for dina she was just talking about herself over and over and the teen drama pregnant thing
    While the part 1 characters were changed so **** much
    It was so bad like joel tommy and ellie acting so out of character
    Anyway. Anything you make is supposed to be enjoyable
    Like the 300 movie . It's not historically accurate but it's fun to watch
    Even when you're trying to make a depressing story it's not hard to make it enjoyable

    This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I didnt wanted to write anything untill I complete game and now here I am after finishing it - I admit little late than most of gamers but I bought my console only recently.

    Anyway I like it and I dont like it. In techicall, graphic and gameplay terms its thumbs up definately since its a massive improvement but unfortunately thats where all good stuff ends. In terms of a storyline which was mere soul of a game its broken and shattered. Murdering Joel in a gruesome way isnt the only reason for my words. Of course like many across the world I was enraged with his early kill but as much as the game progressed later on I didnt felt angry but only like shallow, empty and out of the juice. I barely had strenght to finish it.
    Playing with Abby is iritating I agree but what angered me more is the attempt after attempt after attempt to humanise her and forced attempts and manipulation on us to sympathise with her actions. Quick and sloppy try with copy/paste friendship like Joel/Ellie was Abby/Lev but it wasnt convincing and we didnt took that bait.
    Abby had a reason to kill Joel cuz he killed her father you say ? That same Joel saved Abbie's life when she faced inevitable death and thats the great point how much of a monster is created inside that "girl" who almost looks like a guy with her physics.
    On the other side, with almost desperate attempt to convince us that Abby is a good person, they ruined Ellie's character by making her a ruthless murderous monster on a revenge rampage. We play with older Ellie and younger Ellie in flashbacks, we play with older Abby and younger Abby in flashbacks as well and il that confusion and multiphase storyline we have some short conversations with characters seriosly lacking conversation abilites.
    Specially in those criticall situations where Joel needs to explain what happened in hospitall or when they talk about making peace in the end. It was just left with "huh" in my head. If I were Joel or Ellie that conversation would last like half an hour or hour - in my opinion such criticall situations just CANT be solver in 2-3 sentences and just like "ok see you around". NO NO and NO !

    We have a war between big factions - WLF - Wolves which was Abby's faction and Scars or Seraphites where Lev used to belong. The way they were detailed was a positive also.

    And when finally an oportunity for clash between Abby and Eliie happened, it was just... dont kill Dina shes pragnant and than Abby was like- meh "dont ever let me see you again" and they just walk separate ways - at that point I didnt care what will happen to both of them. And after that completely unnesecery and pointless 2nd attempt after crippled Tommy instructed Ellie where was Abby last seen. She than left the peace at the farmland with her girlfriend Dina and baby she delivered, having a serious PTSD and nightmares from what happened in Seatle to again chase Abby who was captured by another (almost random) group of villains who appear at the very end with no reason or point at all.
    By the time Ellie gets there Abby looks miserable, skinny and left to die slowly tied high on a pillar, Lev also. Both of them ruined physically and mentally they do one last battle in which again illogically Ellie has a backpack full of guns and arms but she wants to fight like with a pocket knife with Abby... and at the end when she had oportunity to drown her in a water she had sudden call in from humanity and spared her. No word said no conversation, no nothing. She just left her and sent her away in "just go away" manner. And at the end of the game I felt empty, dissapointed, shallowed, wondering why the hell am I played it when nothing was solved or done ?
    The only message that made any sense in this whole mess of a story would be "revenge destroys everything and anyone on its path including the one doing it"
    And that was the only outcome I could see - Ellie destroyed both mentally emotionally and physically, Abby also devastated, destroyed in every way, and so are we - the people played this game. I personally felt drained, empty, kinda sad, and dissapointed after finishing the game.
    5 out of 10 was score "at best" which I could give for the game and mostly for tech/graph/gameplay elements. The rest is just much weaker than the first game and storyline shattered between past and present.
    Not a hate but for 7 years waiting it should be much more quality story and for 3rd sequal its enourmous pressure on creative team to regain the glory and shine from the 1st part. In my opinion game needs soft reset with both Ellie and Abby gone (killed off screen, semi-retired or just put in the drawer) with maybe some new fresh faces who will build up the story from the rubble. In this situation I see pulling off Ellie from the state she was in a difficult task and after huge mental breakdown and hard PTSD I dont see the reason for her going into action again.

    I don't know why people get upset about the story, It was completely well developed. The story gave us a full view of every character, the happy life of Joel after Part I, and a great vengeance story for both characters Ellie and Abby. The loss, the pain, and the emotion showed in the game are even better than any movie. But as a sequel of LEGENDARY p1 this is a complete **** Ruined plot, ruined characters. If you, writers, think that the entire game-community and fans of p1 are the gays from Twitter, you are wrong. The majority of that "people" who yelling about gay tolerance and feminism wouldn't even play this game. But who would, they DIDN'T WANTED AND EXPECTED that **** that you've done. We wanted continuation of the story about Joel and Ellie with her immunity, not the story about gay Ellie and Dina, fighting with group because of male-looking "woman", who killed Joel, and her trans-friend Lily who has problems with accepting her gender. In the first game he was very smart and had a ton of experience. He didn't even trust a guy that was sick on the road. He chose to run him over. Later we find out that stranger on the road was not sick and it was all a set up. They do everything to make you dislike Joel and continue to spit on him. They have a trans female/male shoot him in the leg and torture him with a golf club right in the first 2 hours of the game. They spit on him literally. They made Ellie unlikable and a selfish human being. She kills everyone and continued to blame Joel for saving her life. She cared so much in saving humanity because she has the immunity but instead she became a lesbian and chose not to reproduce. Let that sink in. She even let's Abby the one that tortured and murdered Joel in front of her get away with it. Abby also bit off two of Ellie's fingers. Her letting Abby go is basically saying Joel deserved dying. A loveable character who is the main character of the game. There was no justice for Joel. This game robbed everything from you just for shock value. The current narrative of destroying the male character to make the female character rise is very weak story telling. It is disrespectful to both genders. Females even hate it. Worst of all the pacing of the story is horrible. You literally play as Abby the character we hate for half the game. They tried so hard to make us like her but none of it worked. This game is a waste of time and money and should have never been created as a sequel. The critics are liars and they don't care about what the fans want. They only care about their political narrative and force you to like something that you will never accept. Then they insult you by calling you names because you don't like the product they are praising. They are the worst kind of human being. Trust the gamers that actually love playing the kind of video games you like. Those are the ones who you should listen to. Vote with your wallet and avoid this dumpster fire.     Não irei entrar em detalhes, pois é uma review muito atrasada e já existem diversos vídeos mostrando os furos e inconsistências do roteiro, mas vou entrar em alguns tópicos.

    Primeiro que se alguém acredita que uma pessoa capaz de torturar outra por horas em uma vingança 4 anos atrasada seria realmente capaz de ser altruísta com qualquer desconhecido, ainda mais com duas crianças random de uma facção inimiga, essa pessoa não consegue entender o mínimo sobre uma pessoa desse tipo. Tortura não é uma simples vingança, tortura é prazer em ver e causar o sofrimento.
    Se realmente queriam tanto torturar, pelo menos tivesse culhão o suficiente de deixar a personagem continuar com essa personalidade, mas não, do nada a guria muda de psicopata com prazer em causar sofrimento, para uma altruísta que enfrenta seus maiores medos em beneficio de duas desconhecidas. Isso é ridículo, mantivessem ela sendo uma personagem ruim, que gosta de matar, teria sido muito melhor. Ou então que pelo menos que ela tivesse matado o Joel com um tiro e sem sofrimento. Só por mata-lo já seria o suficiente para deixar geral puto com a Abby.

    A Ellie ficar abalado por matar uma gravida acho sem sentido, ela matou umas 200 pessoas até chegar ali, e agora por causa de uma gravida ela fica abalada, qual é neh. Mas o pior de tudo é a conveniência de ela abandonar a vingança que a estava cegando até 5 minutos atrás que a fez abandonar o Tommy, e para piorar deixa o mapa que estava com o teatro circulado por um coração escrito "meu esconderijo" para trás ¬¬
    Poha, sério mesmo, você sai em território inimigo com um mapa, que caso você seja capturado ou morto vai ter a localização da pessoa que você ama marcado nele ? Isso é de uma idiotice sem tamanho. E claro de brinde o Tommy também resolveu abandonar a vingança dele por nada além de conveniência de roteiro.

    Jogar com a Abby foi uma tortura, ainda mais porque muda para ela em um momento que o ódio por ela estava renovado.

    Os flashback da Abby são totalmente desnecessários, só servindo para tentar criar uma imagem de personagem bonzinho, o que não condiz com as atitudes e ações dela, me fazendo odiar cada momento deles.

    Já história com ela até o momento em que ela encontra as duas crianças eu até achei legal, já que mostrava que ela ruim, mas tendo seu lado bom com as pessoas que ela gostava (nada de surpreendente ou inovador nisso), mas depois que ela encontra aquelas duas fica impossível, ela passa a arriscar a própria vida por duas desconhecidas, e para piorar, nos força a fazer toda uma jornada inútil para tentar salvar um personagem que morre de forma idiota (isso que eu gostei dela ter morrido).

    E essa suposta redenção da Abby é simplesmente ridícula, a mina ta matando pessoas que eram amigos e companheiros dela até algumas horas atrás e não da a mínima para isso, e tudo porque conheceu duas guria aleatórias. Cara, o roteiro nos momentos da Abby é tão ruim que chega a dar nojo.

    Todo o jogo parece feito para pintar o Joel e a Ellie como os vilões e a Abby e os demente dos vagalumes como heróis, porque se não se lembram os vagalumes não passavam de uma facção de incompetentes que não sabiam porra nenhuma do que estavam fazendo, então nunca foi certeza de que matar a Ellie no primeiro jogo resolveria alguma coisa.

    Claro, ainda tem os furos em algumas regras que foram estabelecidas no primeiro jogo, mas ignoradas ou deturpadas no segundo jogo.

    E para aqueles que dizem que a Abby superou sua vingança e seguiu em frente, é claro que superou, ela se vingou e com muita crueldade ainda por cima.

    Os melhores momentos desse jogo foram os Flashback da Ellie e os momentos em que a Ellie matava os amigos da Abby, com destaque para a tortura que a Ellie faz, a morte do Manny que me deixou com um sorriso no rosto por alguns minutos e o melhor de todos o momento em que a Abby encontra os dois mortos no aquário, que foi o único momento em que eu me senti realmente realizado nesse jogo.

    E se você não jogou o primeiro jogo, você não tem o direito de criticar as pessoas que não gostaram desse fiasco de historia que é o segundo jogo.    … Expand

If you put yourself in her shoes and imagine her actions from her point of view, she's actually more justified in her actions than the beloved main character (who does much worse things).

    I also believe many people don't like this character because she has a stronger and more masculine build, which unfortunately is unliked by many gamers who want petite and therefore "more pretty" women. Many have shamed her body type and even went so far as to send threats to her voice actress. Clearly, there are deeper issues than gameplay behind the bad reviews.

    Continuing on, the game shows the player that blind rage and seeking revenge is not the right solution to every problem, as it will often lead you nowhere. Many people missed the moral behind the game, however, saying that trying to get vengeance keeps leaving you with nothing. That's the point. The developers want the player to feel that way, many just didn't like how it felt. Looking deeper than the surface is important for the enjoyment of this game, and I am surprised by how many people can't seem to figure it out.

    This game was spectacular. I hope the negative reviews do not drive you away. Even if you think you won't like it, give it a chance. Worst you can do is just put down the controller.    … Expand

    This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. this game has just left me with a feeling of emptiness and heartbreak . the terrible story line just seems like a waste of the spectacular graphics and gameplay . it had so much potential . naughty dog could’ve turned this into another great game although it would’ve still been hard to top the original . however , just like real life , not everything can have an interesting story line and ending . people that mean something to you die and there are many painful lessons you have to learn ; just like ellie and abby . i suppose the game did teach the importance of dealing with your emotions in a healthy way , particularly grief and pain . there is nothing cathartic about revenge (this is already portrayed in the beginning when joel is killed) you can tell that abby didn’t feel good about killing him . all it caused was a spiral of many more unfortunate events and both girls lost everyone they cared about ; all to learn just how disappointing revenge is . in the beginning , i was just waiting for abby’s death but at the end it wasn’t even satisfying watching them fight . it was emotionally exhausting . the entire game didn’t feel right with joel being killed off immediately (and in the most degrading way possible) i lost interest in the plot . it’s such a shame , but the lesson provided here is very important .… Expand

    Es ist einzig und allein auf die Autoren zurückzuführen, dass das Game nicht zu dem BESTEN Game allerzeiten wurde. Da jeder Charakter von Grund auf verändert wurde. Wie soll man Sympathie für jemanden entwickeln den man vorher abgrundtief gehasst hat? Außerdem wurde dem transgender Thema viel zu stark thematisiert und Bedeutung zugesprochen.
    Es hätte so toll werden können, stattdessen wurde es in meine Augen zum Paradebeispiel dafür, wie man die Qualität des Spielerlebnisses von perfekt auf miserable herunterwirtschaftet.

    This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I saw both positive and negative reviews when the game was released. I just borrowed it because i was not willing to pay for the game. Thankfully i did not because this game is actually trash. I just got to the part where Joel dies and i refuse to finish the game. I can already tell how the game will focus on garbage so wont waste my time. I literally never leave a review but this game is so trash after killing Joel and wanting to make us play the enemy and make us play fetch with a dog to try manipulate us to like the actual villian. It was a risky and abstract way to make the sequel and they truly bottled it. Entire franchise will never be the same. You couldnt pay me to finish this game.… Expand

    loved last of us 1, as did many other fans, we expected part 2 to continue on from part 1, as it was great to see joel and elle grow closer together BUT, part 2 was in no way similar or a continuation of part 1, quote >The plot is controversial, omg what an understatement
    they kill joel in the first chapter, turned elle into a raving lesbian, and had a trany trying to kill elle

    if you want to play part 2, dont play part 1 first
    critics should have kept this in mind while scoring, my score 0 for continuation of part 1, but 3 for part 2 as a standalone game, any game that deserves such high score given by critics should be emotionally rewarding, fun and have players keen to replay, part 2 was bitter and in no way related to part 1 hence most fans wanted a refund, so finally my lesion learnt was disregard critics scores and read only user scores before buying    … Expand

    Just played it, 30 mins in and just got bored, slow paced revenge game , what happend to the zombie apocalypse and the saving of mankind, it just turned into a sJ political agenda pushing game. Sand to see one of the best and my personal beloved franchise ruined. My only pro in this game is the ambience , Other than that I just pretend it didn't happen,.

    The Last of Us Part II is the high point of the PlayStation 4. The plot is controversial, but the game is the incredibly addictive adventure of Ellie, from which it is impossible to pull away from the opening and to the very end.

    Not everyone is going to enjoy the motives of The Last of Us Part II. But if you try and manage to accept the subliminal and not so subtle messages as a fact that the world has gone awry and that people have the need to have somewhere or someone to belong to as their own way out, then... You will witness the boundaries of gaming expand. You will witness a true masterpiece.
