This game is amazing, in apocalyptic games, we almost always have an ending with some kind of silver lining or hopeful future, not with this game. The ending hurts, and it's supposed to, we watch Ellie destroy both herself and everything she had trying to track down and kill Abby, it was only at the last second she realized she had become a monster and was about to traumatize Lev the same way she was traumatized by Abby. But it's too late, Dina left her, she'a all alone, and to top it all off, she can't even play guitar anymore, one of the key things that still connected her to Joel.

    Fair warning to anyone reading: 99% of the negative reviews were written on the day it came out when it was impossible to have beaten the game, and the vast majority of those reviews are due to the queer representation the game shows, which they did a phenomenal job of.    … Expand

The other you hate with a fiery passion. This game shows you two sides of the story of revenge and how it affects people on both sides. This game you would definitely have to give it time and see what the story is trying to tell you and understand the character’s motive, Abby. Great gameplay and scenery making me be in awe of such an amazing game with a story with believable characters and heart breaking scenes! This is one of the best games I’ve played and I look forward to another game in the future if they choose to do so!… Expand

    If you go into the game expecting a story similar to the first, both in terms of theme and in the characters then you will likely not enjoy this game. if you go into it with an open mind it could be the greatest game you've played in your life

    This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This game does so many great things in terms of its gameplay, setting, music, graphics and all you could think that make a great game. But I cannot stop being conflicted about the gameplay section with Abby, at first my immersion into Ellie was broken because I had to play as the character that did the most atrocious thing in the world of tlou and its first hours of gameplay were the most boring in the gameplay, but then it picks up the action you get more shocking scenes and interesting combat but I still didn’t grow to love or hate Abby, I was just in the middle after we finished playing with her. The begging and the ending of the game are one of the most impactful pieces of media I have experienced in my life, the ending makes you feel at peace, conflicted, accomplished and empty it is truly amazing. The gameplay is 10/10 graphics 10/10 environment 10/10 but the story is a 7/10 if you didn’t play as Abby that long at best it would have been a 9 because it has some pacing issues. I get where ND was coming from as to humanize the enemy but I just feel that her character from her appearance to her actions should have been more humanized like make her more attractive not this John cena type of girl with braids and make her actions not that brutal as to sympathize with her because why would we care for Joel’s killer. If Abby wouldn’t have been playable for that long the story would have been a masterpiece FOR ME, but still that’s why I give it an 8/10 because the story is beautiful but Abby could have been approached differently.… Expand

    The music , plot , gameplay, area design are near perfect and the humans who try to kill you are smart almost like real human my only problem with the game is the fact that it makes a lot of noise on my PS4

    Finished the game about 5 minutes before posting this. Went in wanting to hate it because of the leaks and rumors but the longer I played the more I loved it.

    I was very well entertained. Sure, the story isn't everybody's cup of tea, but if every producer would just do fan service we would have a lot of predictable stories with happy endings.
    The gameplay is as usual very good (at least better than e.g. in RDR2) and for me the journey was exciting and varied.
    If you liked the first part and can live with it if the story doesn't continue    I was very well entertained. Sure, the story isn't everybody's cup of tea, but if every producer would just do fan service we would have a lot of predictable stories with happy endings.

    There has never been a game more heart wrenching and beautiful, this is truly one of the greats. I am so grateful that this game was created. I desperately want a third installment to come out, but take your time!

Some people have criticized this as bad only after a couple of hours of playing or because they have read the spoilers. Sounds in the game is very good and music is incredible. This is for me a game of the year.

Waiting 7 years for this game just to have the director of the game give a big **** you to the fans who supported him. Who cares about the game play or graphics when the whole story sucks. Stop trying to make excuses for this garbage game, for people to go as far as to say that people who hate this game are homophobic, sexist or xbox fans...really ? I'm a woman who supports LGBTQ community and Playstation fan and I hate this game. The anger lies in the fact is they completely deceived fans in the trailers and gave no fan service. Aside from the mediocre story and the forced SJW propaganda, I think Neil Druckman and his team really deserve respect in creating this games environments and enemies. I'll give the story a 5 out of 10 purely for the fact that it is bland, in my opinion, and Joel's death was not given any proper context, and happened too early in the game. Ellie being a senseless killer was also an off-putting thing about the story. There is no humor or wit in this game like the first. Abby was not a bad character, despite the leaks and what she did to Joel. However, she should have gotten her own game instead of being forced into this one. My biggest gripe with the story is the forced SJW propaganda. It seems that the writers chose to tell us that Ellie is a lesbian every five minutes in the game. It got annoying after a point and I eventually lost interest in the story after about an hour or so. The new characters are bland, and I didn't like the character of Dina. She just seemed an odd choice for the game and the dialog between her and Ellie felt unnatural, forced and borderline uncomfortable sometimes. Also, most new and old characters are under utilized. However, The environment is a solid 10 out of 10. It is absolutely gorgeous, and Seattle has got to be one of the best looking environments in any video game up to this point. The enemy factions are also a solid 10 out of 10. The returning infected never ceased to make my toes curl and my heart race, and the two warring factions in the game, the WLF and the Seraphites are well implemented and deserving of the coolest enemies award, if ever there was such an award. The militaristic nature of the WLF combined with the silent, eerie way the Seraphites conduct their war makes for some epic, heart racing moments in the game. Whoever conceived the idea for the WLF and the Seraphites is really good at their job and deserves a promotion. In closing, I cannot fault the game for a few bland story moments and aspects. It's still a brilliant game if you like horror survival games, and I would recommend it to anyone interested.… Expand

After 30 hours of playing I can happily say the follow up to my favorite game of all time lands in my personal top 5. With as little spoilers as possible, I was a big fan of Joel in the first game but I was a bigger fan of Ellie since I was around the same age as her when the first one came out. I did not agree with Joel taking away Ellie’s decision from her but like everyone understood why he did it. I did after the first one expect Joel to die and I did not have a problem with how he did. Joel’s character was never written to die protecting Ellie from clickers. That would be lazy writing. Having him die as brutal as it was, was In some way a testament to his character and the pain he caused others. But also his death caused the player pain setting up a good revenge story. You just know Joel himself knew he had it coming. Seeing other character like Jesse and Dina ready to sacrifice themselves for Joel shows how he impacted the Jackson community. Ellie remains my favorite character in the series after this game but I do hope if we see more in this series it includes more Tommy. Now onto abbys side, I found some the characters to be annoying. But I think each of them had valid motivations. I did not like Abby when I first started playing as her but as time went on I liked her more and more. Laura baileys performance was incredible. While I still was mad she killed Joel, I understood it and I felt her pain as well. While I’m at it all the acting was top notch. My surprise of the game was lev and yara who helped build abbys character. The gameplay in this game was my favorite of the ps4 single player games. It felt as realistic as an infected filled world could. The engagements felt real, and the enemies felt like they were each created with their own mind and personality. I will replay multiple times for gameplay alone, and hopefully it receives a multiplayer. The graphics and soundtrack were obviously top notch. With graphics being the best I had seen on a ps4 pro, and made me question if we need a ps5. One last thing is the hospital mission with Abby is one of the scariest missions I have played. I’m not a huge horror fan but I have played resident evils and it felt straight out of one. Verdict/TLDR- if you’re a fan of the first one and willing to go in with an open mind you will be very pleased as naughty dog proves they are one of the best again.… Expand

People really need to do a gut check and realize--if Naughty dog went with a cookie cutter story it would kill any chance of this story continuing. It would be nothing but Last of Us 1.5. Look, the Joel and Ellie story is still there but it is a finality. Now, they can really move the world forward. Also, the love between Joel and Ellie is on display throughout the game. The negative is Abby, she does come across a little annoying. However, there are still great parts with her story as well. The ending was amazing and did justice for Joel. WTG Naughty dog.… Expand

This game is **** awesome first off and people need to relax about SJW and playing as Abby they didn’t need anymore backstory to their characters you know enough about the main characters in the story sure it sucked seeing Joel die early nearly brought me to tears and then you have to play as Abby I took enjoyment out of it I loved watching her get killed when I made a mistake but it’s not all about her it’s about who is really the evil person sure Abby killed Joel in a gruesome way but Joel also murdered almost all the fireflies and took the one chance for a cure with him he damned the the entire human race for one girl because he loved her like the daughter he lost during the outbreak it’s hard to blame him for it too so is it really that hard to blame Abby for killing Joel(avenging her father and killing the one guy who stopped them from making a vaccine (also manny was one of my favourite of the former fireflies and he’s the **** who spits on Joel) in conclusion I’ve seen bad reviews about this game and me personally there either dumb as **** for not seeing the great story telling and making it more than just a revenge story and have it be one that’s also a redemption story for Abby and Ellie who cares if the main character is gay it’s not like Its actually you!! I gave this game a 10 for the great gameplay stellar graphics damn good story I think ND did a wonderful job and I hoe there will be a part 3!!!! agin… Expand

    I like it its not bad its just a tad different and boring. But i played it on different difficulties and if you play it on harder difficulties its actually pretty fun. The one thing i will say is that its a bit too long but its still fun.

    I read all kinds of reviews and mostly people are unhappy with the plot for Abby, and some write about LGBT propaganda, although it is not here. It feels like capricious children were writing. We saw a kiss of two girls - LGBT propaganda. We got the opportunity to see the conflict from different angles and for different characters - draining the plot. It turns out in the first part, when they played for Eli, was it also a plot drain? If your brain is so limited, then play games without a plot.    … Expand

Tanto ela como a Abby perderam tudo, algo devia ser feito pra que existisse um futuro diferente num mundo pós-apocalíptico.     This may not be how the "fans" would have wanted it to play out - but they did an amazing job of telling the stories... with incredible graphics and attention to detail (as a musician i personally LOVED that this is the first game i've seen where the characters actually make accurate patterns on a guitar ) - and as always fantastic voice acting.

    This game is an emotional roller coaster. You'll laugh. You'll cry - both happy and sad - you'll get pissed off, and rightly so... but if the only thing you can take away from it is "screw this game" then you weren't a fan to begin with.

    This is the perfect way to continue the story of the Last of Us. i give it 5 stars. and 8 fingers out of 10 :D    … Expand

    Firstly, this game is not bad in the sense of DMC2 being bad. The gameplay is well done and does feel like an improvement from the OG, though that does come with its own problems of feeling too similar to the OG. But this is a good game and I recommend it to those who like exploration with a few sections of action.     But now, the story. Without spoilers, it’s a mess, not just in the themes it’s trying to tackle but also how the world’s logic works. Many of the plot points in the original title have either been forgotten or diminished in importance and many of the new characters pretty much run the show without really earning it. While I do find some of the new world building to be interesting, the methods in which we explore them feel hollow and less earnest than the original. I loved the original’s environmental storytelling and how some of the subtle elements provided us a good look into the apocalypse we only caught a glimpse. However, the sequel repeats this formula without much changes nor improvements aside from minor additions like the hunter dogs and new factions to face off. All in all, it doesn’t feel like a Part 2 but more as a Part 1 companion piece that fills in the gaps without interfering the main narrative.

    In saying that, I do have to give credit to the voice actors for they all gave their best performances. While I don’t like the writing for most characters, their voices and performances are fantastic and I buy their emotions. Special shout-out to Laura Bailey as Abby because she was amazing as an antagonist and as a somewhat relatable character. If it wasn’t for those performances, I would not have cared for the story or the cast.

    Finally, I have to admit that The Last Of Us Part 2 was a solid game with a weak story. Somewhat disappointing after the original but it does have some shining moments here and there. Still, if you weren’t a fan of the original game, I don’t think you’ll change your mind.    … Expand

    I'm going to start by saying there are currently a lot of bad reviews for this game. As of beating it tonight only 15% of players shared the achievement for completing the game, so take that for what it's worth.

    Visually the game is stunning. A lot of love was put into the landscapes and character models and it shows.

    The voice acting is, as expected, phenomenal. Ashley Johnson, Troy Baker, Laura Bailey and everyone else involved did an absolutely fantastic job.

    The game starts off faster than it probably should. Things happen that set the whole story in motion fairly quickly, and I feel like a little more time should have been given to explore how things had changed in the previous few years and solidifying how new characters fit in and how some relationships have grown and changed since the first game. It slows down a bit and hits a pretty good pace when you get past the opening, however. The game took about 30 hours to complete. It seemed like the perfect length to me.

    The story is not one of hope like part 1. It is dark, it is gritty, it is desperate at times. It feels almost a little too one track at times as you rampage from one landmark to another, but after you hit a certain point in the game, the story expands in ways that fill in some of what felt like plot holes and a semi one dimensional story. Don't get me wrong, the game is fun through the beginning, but it makes you question where the story telling of the first game has gone. It makes up for it in spades later on.

    Characters are flawed, non-perfect beings, just doing their best to keep surviving this hellish world. The characters interactions from the plot to enemies interacting on the battlefield feel real. They feel human. Combat is similar to part one, but feels a little smoother. Once you take a little time it feels good for the most part, but a little clunk now and then. Encounters have really varying dynamics depending on enemy types, but all types will keep you on your toes with different mechanics. It's varied enough in encounter types that it never feels too stale, and will really get the heart pumping from time to time. Enemies are a lot more unpredictable at times than you might expect, adding a little flavor to your stealthy fights. When your cover is blown it can feel like a bit of a struggle cycling through weapons and supplies, trying to assure you keep enough meager supply for the next inevitable fight. It feels like you are really surviving off of whatever bits and pieces you can find, and really adds to reminding you of the post apocalyptic world you are in.

    Last thing I want to touch on is that yes, there are LGBT themes in the game. People seem to be making mountains out of molehills on this.

    The world of Last of Us Part II is diverse. Characters are a hodge podge of survivors, just doing their best to survive. We've known Ellie was gay since the first games DLC. People have seemed shocked about it. The game neither villifies her sexuality, nor glorifies it. It just is. It's not made to be a big deal besides a little bit of bigotry happening briefly to show it's still not completely accepted in this new world. There is also a Trans character that is acknowledged as being trans, but similarly just kind of is. It does have minor implications on the story line, but isn't made to be a huge deal.

    I found it to be tastefully done. It's how I would like more LGBT characters to be treated in media. The struggles are acknowledged, the characters are neither villafied or glorified for it, and the characters are not defined by their sexuality, it's just one of many aspects of who they are.    … Expand

But it not fair if you just being Youtube Gamer (Just Watch and never played) or Anti-SJW and vote down this game(0-3). So many thing awesome in this game (like gameplay, option of accessible, environment in game, etc). It isn't deserve your anger score.

    I waited so long for the continuation of this story and what they delivered was such a great emotional rollercoaster with the best quality and effort put into it just like the first one.

    Granted if you're looking for a happy story with butterflies and rainbows then it is not for you

    My review will mainly talk about the story and my experience.

    I loved the first game and honestly thought they weren't going to do a sequel. Finding out that a sequel was being made, I was really looking forward to the release and was hoping for a game as moving as the first. As the release date got closer, I did hear about the game receiving negative reviews from people, but I wanted to play the game myself, because I loved the first and wanted to see how they continued Joel and Ellie's story.

    I played the game without watching any trailers except a small section of the dance scene. After finishing the game, I saw the trailers and read reviews both positive and negative. I honestly believe that it was wrong for Naughty Dog to edit a scene in the trailer to make players believe Joel would be by your side throughout the game.

    From reading and watching other reviews, I understand why players decided to quit the game after Joel's death. I do think it was out of character for Joel to not be able to see that it was an ambush especially since it was the driving point of the entire game. I understand why players quit when they had to play Joel's killer, Abby.

    I felt uncomfortable playing Abby because I had an immediate bias towards Joel and Ellie. As a player, I'm shown that I eventually will come back to Ellie at the theater. At this point, I felt annoyed and angry to have to play Joel's killer, but seeing Abby's back story, she had a reason to kill Joel regardless if the player agrees or not. At the point of arriving outside the theater, I was still on Ellie's side. I wanted to delay the inevitable as much as possible. Once the chase sequence started, I felt so uncomfortable running after Ellie. I immediately wasted Abby's bullets not wanting to shoot Ellie. Then I had to fight Ellie and in this moment, I was reminded of the scene in the first game in which Ellie had to sneak around to attack David. I kept hesitating and stopping to let Ellie win, but eventually I continued the game.

    Seeing Ellie have a family and home, I really thought this would be the end. Then Ellie decided she had to finish the job.

    I was ready to kill Abby for Joel, but finding Abby in a weak state it didn't feel right for me to fight her at that moment.

    The ending was moving for me. It wasn't a happy ending, but it made me question so much about the choices made to get to this point even though I had no control over the character's decisions.

    I enjoyed the game for the fact that it gave me an experience I never had before.

    I find it fascinating to see the conflicting views between players, because the story itself became so much more than a hero defeating the villain which was what I was expecting after Joel's death. It gives the player the chance to reflect on the actions they made as Joel in the end of the first game. The player can decide to change how they feel about certain characters or not. The player can expect a certain ending, but the game makes the choices and the player can only decide how to feel about it. Whether you liked the game or not, it's ultimately your choice as the player to decide how you feel about the game.    … Expand

However, the story doesn’t make pretty much sense and the character development of Abby it’s not strong enough to make a bond with the player, so it only makes you want to finish playing her “point of view” because the bond of the player is with Joel and Ellie. Also, it’s okay the message the developers wants to teach you about violence and vengeance is wrong and it’s only going to give you tragic and sadness, but it’s kind of... it’s doesn’t feels natural it’s more like an obligation than a cool message.

    Of course it’s not a 95-96 like the first part, but forme, it’s more like a 85-88 (thanks to the story telling).    … Expand

The graphics are stunning, characters are relatable and you actually get to play someone you would rather have killed than actually play for a moment.. but everyone is a bad guy in this game and it teaches us that you can literally loose everything as fast as you got it.. and that’s frustrating and sad. The ending should have ended with Ellie and Dina. But I guess naughtydog are making a DLC for that:) Or else I’m gonna be pissed. Ellie needs peace!… Expand

I advise everyone who ended this game, let this story sink before making a decision and try to see it from different perspectives. Im not here to say this game was perfect but i will start by saying that most of the people who are this game is bad a re just upset that Naughtydog killed Joel and while yes his death wasnt what i would want to see happen it set up a well written narrative that I enjoyed a while lot and to those who say that Ellie acted out of character think about what you would do if you lost your father the man who raised you. The gameplay was very exciting and while very similar to the first game it still had new elements to keep you on edge I didnt enjoy playimg abby as much as I did Ellie I respect the idea of humanizing the "villian" For those who think the game was bad I dont expect you to like or agree with Naughtydogs ideas but you have to agree that the story is still phenominal and the time and effort put into it makes it one to love.… Expand

Un nuevo protagonista, el cual tiene su toque; pero no llega a convencer totalmente, y el juego nos fuerza a encariñarnos con él de manera muy rápida, sin mencionar que fue la persona que mató a Joel en las primeras horas de juego y que pocos jugadores podrán empatizar con el personaje. Un gameplay similar al de la entrega pasada, muy aceptable y divertido de jugar. Una inteligencia artificial algo mala, sobretodo en los niveles de dificultad media. Finalmente, unos gráficos muy bien detallados y que impresionarán a cualquiera que pruebe este juego, simplemente hermosos, de lo mejor que se ha visto hasta ahora.

The creators purposely chose to deceive, and lie to its audience who loved the original characters. I truly wanted to play as Joel, and be a companion with Ellie. Moreover, Niel Druckmann purposefully chose to destroy the original characters, and manipulate the emotions of people to purchase a game, die hard fans, would otherwise have let go if only told the truth. It’s truly a lack of leadership, talent, and vision which leads to a game as this to be made. Consequently, because of the display of poor lack of character by Druckmann; I’m actually now convinced Amy being forced out of Naughty Dog by Neil’s wishes wasn’t ever a lie, only a slight of hand to get his name out on top; the same way he chose to raise Abby an unwanted absurd character to hero status who deserved no recognition from a audience who never expected her. You’re sick Druckmann!! You must truly believe the mind of gamers are easily manipulated. This game feels like it’s made to insult : family, hope, common sense, God, and relationship while protecting evil. I have no idea where you guys cried after playing it , but I’m pretty sure you lied about your tears as well. Reader..... This game was made to hurt you if you are a lover of the first game. It does not belong as a story. Please!! Bring Amy back, or get her recommendation because Druckmann vision and writing choices are obtuse. Naughty Dog, pay attention to this outcry, you dropped the ball hard, and it because you gave the position to a bench player when it needed a high class starter. I beg the gaming community to boycott any current or future directed or written Niel Druckmann video games , he deserves to be left with nothing the same way he chose to leave Ellie, and or Hopes.

    El absurdo de la disonancia cognitiva de los gamers conservadores: sale un juego como de TLOU II, en el que puedes asesinar embarazadas, golpear hasta la muerte a mujeres (algunas de ellas lesbianas), desmembrar lomitos domésticos y en el que una mujer masculinizada es la antagonista, y lo terminan considerando el colmo de la corrección política y de la incidencia de la agenda LGBT.

    The Graphics are just astonishing and the Atmosphere throughout the whole game is so well made. I also really like the Fact that they haven`t played safe when it comes to the Story. All those twists and turns are really refreshing than just kinda knowing whats about to be happen.

    El juego es crudo y hay cosas que no queremos que pasen, sucesos inesperados, situaciones amargas y tristeza por doquier, pero así es la vida, tomamos malas decisiones, pasan cosas trágicas, hay tristeza, etc. Creo que el juego tiene sus pros y sus contra, pero sin duda es un juego que te hace sentir un sin fin de emociones, y más para los que lo hemos esperado desde hace más de 6 años.

    Fantastic sequel. I really dont get why people flooded to Metacritic to give bad reviews to a game they never seemed to even download. Naughty Dog definitely did it again! The story, music, acting, setting, and gameplay are all very good.

    É simplesmente perfeito, os gráficos bem feitos, a história bem contada e elaborada, me emocionei e senti o que cada parte do jogo mostrava, um dos melhores jogos de todos os tempos sem dúvidas!!
    Fiquei triste em várias partes confesso, mas que jogo incrível!

    Amargo, esa fue la única forma en la que puedo describir el final del juego. Y por eso mismo es genial. Logra hacerte sentir tal mezcla de emociones que es imposible distinguirlas todas. Me parece una obra maestra digna de su predecesora. Puede que tenga algún fallo pero creo que nos llega a presentar una historia tan madura y tan cruda que creo que es este el camino que tienen que tomarAmargo, esa fue la única forma en la que puedo describir el final del juego.     This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Me surpreende jogadores (ou não) zerando a nota de avaliação sobre "The Last of Us part II". Acredito que o enredo da história me pegou da forma que a equipe de desenvolvimento pensou. É um jogo absurdo em diversas vertentes. O final é doloroso como muitas partes que fazem parte do título. Por isso, faz parte daqueles jogos que eu "passo tempo buscando conclusões" mesmo depois do seu fim. Pode não ser uma contextualização com final feliz ou, com meio feliz, ou início feliz. Mas para mim, é melhor que o primeiro da franquia, e é nota 10. Nenhum jogo é perfeito, mas esse jogo superou qualquer expectativa minha. E não é qualquer jogo que vale tanta discussão como está acontecendo.… Expand

    The Last of Us Part II is the high point of the PlayStation 4. The plot is controversial, but the game is the incredibly addictive adventure of Ellie, from which it is impossible to pull away from the opening and to the very end.

    Not everyone is going to enjoy the motives of The Last of Us Part II. But if you try and manage to accept the subliminal and not so subtle messages as a fact that the world has gone awry and that people have the need to have somewhere or someone to belong to as their own way out, then... You will witness the boundaries of gaming expand. You will witness a true masterpiece.
