    Playing the first game I was hugely excited for the second. Some of the places the game takes you is surprising and unexpected. If you were to ask me I wouldn't have taken the game in that direction. However, for the story it all makes sense. Some chapters are dislikeable at first then once you get to know them they become likeable.     Gameplay almost didn't change, it gets very repetitive and boring at times.
    Story is very disappointing with bland dialogue and boring plot. Characters are very unlikable and boring, didn't get attached to any of the characters except joel.

    Start from the beginnig: is a sequel and is story driven. Yes, you could like gameplay in TLOU but the main punch was in the story. Some can rate the game cause its "meh" gameplay or beautiful graphics, but if the story doesnt punch over... it lost over the first deliver.

    Here you dont have a choise, the story and the storytelling devolved from the first game. The game felt, at least for me, stretched at least ten hours trying to get us into some bad developed characters so we lost 40% of our time, a shame.
    Then: is a 0 game? No. Is a 10/10 game? Neither. A 3.7? That would be a BAD game, and it isnt for me. Being a 7 a nice game, it have a little more than a nice game, but if it was a good sequel to the first game probably would deserve a 9 or 10    … Expand

    This is such a negative game! The script is very bad after playing a couple of hours I had to return it. It doesn't make any sense to play it. I should become a lot of happiness but instead, I got a lot of disappointing moments. Is this the game for players? No, this is a game for critics and newspapers.

    This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. There is a saying. “When you’re lost in the darkness, look for the light”. In the first game, there was a light to find. The main point of the story was still an ‘A to B’ story, but done extremely well. The gameplay was serviceable, at best, and enemies were extremely dumb. Where the mastery in the first game lied was it’s story.
    Joel was such a likable protagonist that you were able to get behind anything he did, even his actions at the end, which were ultimately selfish. Ellie was a likable side character that helped Joel open up to people, especially her. She became a surrogate daughter to him, after he lost his own daughter 20 years ago. The game ended on a lie, and Joel did it to keep Ellie safe.

    Fast forward 5 or so years, and things have changed. Ellie’s relationship with Joel is strained, and they barely talk to one another anymore. This makes Joel’s immediate death about an hour or so into the game so goddamn stupid. It’s not even that he died, but the way he died is not only disrespectful but incredibly idiotic. The build up to his death is so poorly written that you could watch a porn cartoon and have better written dialogue than this. An hour or two into the game, he dies. Whatever. He was dead weight. Fast forward a little bit, and Ellie is an emo. She doesn’t seem to want to talk to anybody, clearly affected by Joel’s death (even though their relationship was strained at the time, so she shouldn’t care as much.) I only ever found this to be a minor inconvenience, as they can do whatever the hell they want.
    I would go over the bulk of the story and discuss the pacing issues and mission placement, but we would be here forever. I’ll give you the basics on what they should’ve done better.
    -keep Abby’s 10 hour story, but mix it in with Ellie’s so that they both build up to the fight at the cinema. This would probably keep the players investment in the game, wanting to play as Ellie but not as Abby but having to progress through both at the same time. This solves the mission placement issue.
    -(they should’ve) removed a lot of stupid content they shouldn’t have added, keeping the playtime low, solving the pacing issue.
    -have the ending just be Abby and Ellie trying to fight in the water, as the other, but have both kill each other. This is just an ending that I’d find entertaining, at least Ellie and Abby would be equal in terms of loss.
    Honestly, I feel like this game, despite it’s problems, is worth playing just once. It’s nice to have a game that takes risks, rather than playing it safe. Although, the marketing certainly doesn’t give the company much praise, especially because it shows they aren’t proud enough of the project they made to advertise what they actually made, and instead advertised the game people actually wanted to play, which just makes them look bad. That means all they want is money, not to tell a story that nobody wanted but still can be enjoyed, but instead hiding a well told story behind what could’ve been a masterpiece that not only took risks but advertised it as such. Overall... is this a good GAME? Yes. You’re a moron if you think this game is just a failure in every regard, because it isn’t. It gets a lot of things right. But to those giving this game “PERFECT 10/10” are also just a part of the problem. This game in no way is a masterpiece, and never will be. It had glaring pacing problems and story issues that will bug people who bother to look for them. But, the gameplay almost makes up for it and the story is so daring that some people can just avoid all that and enjoy it for what it tried to be. This is a good game. Good story? It’s a subjective question, but I believe yes, if it was an original game. Is it a good TLoU2? Hell no. This story shouldn’t have ever been told in this universe, because it doesn’t belong. But I think that some things can help me look past all that, as the graphics are stunning and the gameplay is smooth and functional.    … Expand

    Please if you are at all interested in this game and/or enjoyed the first game, please get this one... there are a lot of bitter fans and people who think it's cool to hate that try to drag this game and naughty dog through the dirt, but this game is a masterpiece with a carefully written story and beautiful moments!

    This is a great game, truly. The story-telling is raw and brutal, and fits quite well the tone of the series. Graphics are an absolute masterpiece. You should play it with headphones on, it's quite immersive. Maybe the best PS4 game of this gen, with the permission of Bloodborne and God of War.

    Excellent graphics, performance, sound, etc. It's the best game ever. The game makes you think a lot through a bitter and realistic ending. Anyway, I recommend you the best game of 'Last of Earth 2'.

    Amazing story, interesting character. You can watch story from both side. Absolutely technical masterpiece. Best graphic in current generation. As for me the strong side of this game is in the ability of modifying the character, that depends on quantity of found items.

    This is the worst Sony game for the entire existence of the Playstation brand, with the second part of TLOU in terms of trash, only GOW 2018 and the Ragnarok DLC can compete, it’s a pity that the once great Sony stooped to such rubbish.

This reels of Druckmann, with a potent and gagworthy essence of Sarkeesian thrown in there. The original TLoU is a masterpiece, and I'm really sad to see how Naughty Dog has ruined it. I'm not gonna review this game because it's already done for many people. I just come to say that this is not the game that they have been selling us during years. It's like if in the new God of War, someone kills Kratos and then Santa Monica forces us to play with his killer.
    TLoU Part II is an offense to all the fans of the first game. They forced us to empathize with someone we don't care about. They have been selling us the trip of Ellie, Ellie in the cover, all the trailers about Ellie, EVERYTHING about Ellie, and at the moment of truth, they force us to play with Joel's killer, and, the worst of everything, after some hellish hours that we all play obliged, they forced us to destroy Ellie, to try to kill her, playing with Abbie.     This is the best game of this generation, excellent graphics, the preparation of the smallest details, a very interesting and elaborate plot. This game caught up with the coolness of the first part, but did not overtake. Thanks to Naughty Dog for the wonderful game.

    2- sexuality: It is not an important thing to know the sexuality of the characters.
    3- the ending is the worst ending you could have seen, Ellie has killed many people and killed a pregnant woman and in the other side Abby has trained and became like a man just to avenge for her father and she did what she wanted and the only threat to her is Ellie and neither of them killed the other.    … Expand

It´s not really a videogame, more of a interactive movie. You wander from setpiece to setpiece, give the inputs which are very basic and move on.     A lot of things happen out of stupidety of the characters which is often a result of bad writing. Characters are very flat and only few have signs of development.
    Personally I´d say if you´ve played the last of us, you´ve played the second installment with the main difference that you control a character which you probably can´t really get into.
    Only good thing are visuals, which is not enough to make a interactive movie into a game, but needed to sell this product to a wider audience.
    If you have the urge to "play" it, I´d say ask a friend to borrow, wait until a sale or a used copy because paying 60$ for a tortue porn movie is a bit much.
    Just a friendly insider warning, if a game has too much positive ratings, there´s something fishy going on.    … Expand

    I found that this game was a perfect blend of action and tension. Its a great game for the fans of stealth action. So many improvements have been made to the stealth gameplay from the first game. The new stealth doesn't make you invisible though, and still adds to the tension of the game. The last of us 2 still keeps you somewhat grounded in the game, and keeps you on your toes all the time. As for the story, it was a bit muddled in terms of pacing, but still had enough of an impact on the player to invoke a little thought.     El inicio muy pausado, el desenlace principal llega muy pronto y deja un sabor de boca muy malo. El juego está entretenido, pero no deja de ser una continuación directa y estirada en muchas partes. Gráficamente las cinemáticas están muy bien, pero el gameplay    Después de terminarlo. Pero lo más grave y que tira toda la experiencia por el suelo es... La historia... El tramo medio al final "obligando" al jugador a empatizar sin éxito con un personaje que por muchas motivaciones carece de carisma.

    Story - Very disjointed and sometimes downright confusing.
    Characters - New characters are very very dull bar a select few. Old characters are nowhere near as attachable as the first game. Bond between Joel and Ellie has been completely ruined and the very end makes little to no sense as it goes against everything Ellie did the whole way through the game. If there is a part 3, story telling will have to be front and centre as it simply wasn't up to scratch this time around.    … Expand

    It's a walking simulator. At least, Death Stranding is more fun. Be it for the gameplay and the storyline, it is perfect and meaningful. The Last of Us 2 is a garbage piece of **** the whole journey thing with ellie, yeah thats the walking simulator.

    Story:at the beginning I felt furious like Ellie and wanted to kill them all, as I moved forward I wasn't sure I wanted to keep doing that, by the middle I saw my mistake and the ending makes you understand everything and why it happened. Gameplay: The game is a rollercoaster, at moments there's action and stealth, and then to mitigate a few moments of peace. Pretty much same mechanics as the previous one.
    Issue: only a single bug but no trophy is compromised.    … Expand

Truly, first things first, this game is completely diferent from the first one , this is one is all about revenge from The begining until end , i would really put a 10 out of 10 but i cant , cause of The end, ok we should have some empathy with abbey, trying to show in a woldcase scenario that we always have to look from about two perspectives, but Ellie should have done it!, she didnt cause she felt free, and letted it go just seing Joe smilling, she should have done it , it would be so much satisfying, cause this all The Scores here in metacritic are so low, cause she hasnt done it , just because of it .… Expand

    Did I hate the game for the direction it went? Yes.
    Was it very dark and heavy for me? Yes.
    Did I enjoy the game? Absolutely.
    You have to be emotionally and mentally mature to appreciate this game. To recognize how Ellie’s journey on revenge brought nothing for her but loneliness. I’m happy she was able to move on when she did not take Joel’s guitar.

    Overall not a bad game, but 5 years of development for repetetive gameplay and not that great story, which tries to empathyze with characters via animals + lying in interwievs and trailers. I strongly dont recomend buying for full price - when price goes under 20E, you should maybe try it.

Gameplay, story, characters, enemy AI, infected, puzzels... everything lacks quality.

    The game is absolutely a masterpiece, amazing twists, gameplay, physics, Movement freedom.... etc. Everyone who gives a bad rating are one of 3 cases:
    1- get so sad from the first twist. 2- haven’t played the game at all. 3- can’t get it (console exclusive). Go and buy it.

    The visual and music are awesome ... but the game's soul is lost .. save the money and watch the game in YouTube if you think people is wrong .. and better do not have high expectations or it    it is sad but the "review bombing" has sense .     Update: I now have finished the game and stand by the score. The game is not perfect. I think the biggest problem for me is that the order of story components feels jumbled and impacts the pacing and opinion of the characters. I think it would have been better to set it up to have the player warm up to the new characters more instead of trying to patronizingly sell it to the player after the fact. It is a lot of effort by the writers and director with little reward. That being said, the gameplay and atmosphere and settings are all amazing so that I am left with a memorable experience.

    Just one other comment that I feel the negative visceral reaction to the game is so disappointing. I think it reflects a large swath of the younger generations that feel they have no purpose and have not developed an ability to see the bigger picture in their lives. Just like the savages that are tearing down statues and rioting, a lack of purpose can lead to depression, anger and resentment. I guess it is better to have an emotional person review-bomb a game rather than set a store on fire though.    … Expand

    That's not to say the gaming aspects aren't top-notch though. This is easily one of the prettiest games I've ever played, and it's character models and physics-engine are next level. Combat is incredibly realistic and brutal and this is one of the few games that actually made me question my own role in the violence playing out on screen.

    If there are any downsides to the game, it's that the stealth can be a little hit or miss and that the story in the third act isn't quite as strong as the first two. in the end, the positives far, far outweigh the negatives though.

Great graphics, yeah, pretty good facial animations and the like, but unfortunately it’s bogged down by a pretty contradicting and terrible narrative, with certain characters (Joel specifically) being naive enough to end up in a deathtrap (something anyone who knows Joel would know he’d never do), and with a game focused on revenge, you’d think, you know, the main character (Ellie) would be able to exact that revenge. But that’s not the case here. Seven long years for this?… Expand

An incredible game in all aspects, the story somewhat cliché but with plot twist at the right time and to the point it is forgiven since it is human nature, I would have loved that they introduced new items and the mechanics of creating knives were preserved I hope the multiplayer arrives soon

    Masterpiece! On my humble opinion, the game of the generation with God of War.
    Not so many stories make me feel like this. The game tells you a controversy story thought perfect gameplay. I thought a second part it was not necessary after finishing the first one. But now, I can't understand the last of us within part 2.

What happens early in the story is the driving force for a story that compelements the first one in a perfect way. I kept myself away from the leaks and even avoided most of the trailers, but knowing that it'll be a revenge story, I knew what was going to happen and I was prepared for it. The plot point that I'm talking about didn't make me want to flush the game. It made me seek revenge and that was the force that kept me going, until my mind was so complicated by the masterful storytelling that I didn't even know what I wanted anymore. The game kept me totally on the hook and left me breathless in the end. Visually and gameplay-wise it obviously tops the first one and I had a lot of fun playing through it. The story was emotionally hard experience, but I enjoyed every single second of it. I've played a lot of games during my life. Multiple universally acclaimed titles and I'm brutally honest when I'm saying this: The Last of Us Part 2 is definitely one of the best games I've ever played. I'm really bad with top lists, but this game (together with the first one) belong to the top three. A true masterpiece. Hands down.… Expand

    This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. if they rearrange some parts and fix others... it could be a masterpiece.. like change the parts of Abby to the start of the game, TO TRY, AT LEAST TRY, to get people to feel sympathetic to her... put more chemistry between Diana and Ellie, about the teenage stuff of weed... was a little CRINGEY but okay? I feel like this game was way too mainstream and that's why is soo divided, they wanted to put stuff that some people didn't like... and put stuff that other people like. The people giving negative reviews actually liked some parts of the game (like the parts with Joel)... but not the complete game, that's why you have to be open minded to play this game, this game isn't made for old fans... or even new fans... it's trying to be in the middle... and you can tell that in a lot of parts in the game.

    Abby and Ellie makes a lot of bad choices.. and you the player feel that.. but you can't control any of it. It's like you are watching your character do bad actions and you command them to do those actions... without even a choice, uninstall the game or play it. The game make you feel miserable because of that, you are punished because of an action you didn't even had a choice of, makes you kill a dog, and play with the same dog with Abby. Yeah!! make the player control someone that they hate to fight the character they love... awesome!

    How I'm supposed to feel sympathetic to Abby? because of a thing that happened in the first minutes of the game, everything you throw at me won't work... she is not a bad character, but I mean.. the game forces you to hate her and forces you to try.... un-hate her?

    Abby just don't even try to understand why Ellie is so triggered and doesn't fell bad that she killed Joel... the character that we loved and liked died with a slow and cruel death, because Joel deserved, because he killed her father?
    (her father accepted to kill the child of someone to save the world, but disregarded to accept to kill his own child to save the world)

    The sex scene... really?????? at this point I just felt that this game is trying so much... SO MUCH to say I'M DIFFERENT! LOOK AT ME PLEASE!!!

    The game is trying to say that revenge is bad, but it just doesn't make sense Ellie do revenge in the first point, and they try to justify that making her change... in the last second? why didn't she stayed with Diana in the first place? actually why didn't you just stayed put Ellie? because of the plot, if Ellie didn't wanted revenge then this game would not exist.... JOEL DIDN'T WANTED YOU TO DO THAT ELLIE! and i knew that from the start.. now you can't play guitar, the thing that connected you with him.. and saved the person that caused all that. Abby would die naturally... what was the point Ellie? seriously? what you are trying to prove?

    This is not The Last of Us, it just doesn't fit in a single bit... this is a completely different game, with completely different characters, and completely different meaning. With that in mind you will for sure.. love this game and give it a 10/10 rating.

    Updated review: so I wrote an impressions review of this game and gave it a 5 out of 10 after the first 3 hours. This goes to show why it's important not to make a snap judgement. The story really picks up after [spoiler] and the action also becomes a lot more fun! One of my favorite games of the year, any fan of the horror/action genres should give this a shot.

    The Last of Us Part II is the high point of the PlayStation 4. The plot is controversial, but the game is the incredibly addictive adventure of Ellie, from which it is impossible to pull away from the opening and to the very end.

But if you try and manage to accept the subliminal and not so subtle messages as a fact that the world has gone awry and that people have the need to have somewhere or someone to belong to as their own way out, then...
