To some degree a very brave game. Great fighting and stealth mechanics. But the great trick is, the game numbs you as the player with his revenge-violence while still keeping the gameplay/story/progression at top level. You don't want to finish this. Because humans suck at all levels. And you do too.

I can understand people investing a lot in the previous game and don't want to see some of the characters go. If it's really purely that, I can understand the frustration. I'm sorry it has come to that. *that scene* was brutal, abrupt and disrespectful if you've invested so much into this character emotionally. Must be a huge disappointment.

Though personally a story about another man rescuing a little girl is boring as hell and I couldn't finish the first game. Just couldn't make myself care about Joel. But I didn't come here and leave a hundred 0 reviews.

If it's because of subconscious discrimination, I've got a message for you:

Stop finding excuses to hate this game. The game isn't garbage, you are. The story isn't garbage, you are. I'm sorry women aren't the weak sidekick anymore. Cos they aren't.

People are acting outrageously here cos their huge ego got challenged. Yea, the world's changed. What you believe aren't true anymore, your values have been replaced by time. You can't accept your typical, boring hero stereotypes aren't the hotshot anymore, you can't comprehend more meaningful things the story depicts. Your influence is limited to this sad little page and can't even prevent the influx of positive reviews that follow.

It has happened. You aren't important anymore. Eat that and move on.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The thing about this game, is that it shows you both sides of a story. We love Joel so dearly, it is hard to see past the anger and the thirst for vengeance to kill Abby. Throughout the game we see two journeys, both filled with loosing their loved ones. At first it is indeed normal to hate Abby, but being in her bones, like with Ellie, we understand the choices she made. “An eye for an eye and the world will go blind” never said better. I think Ellie is us, until the very end. It is hard for us to see the truth and the right thing to do, because we’re so hurt, that how could we not seek vengeance. But again, Joel killed Abby’s dad, what would we have done if someone we loved was killed by someone else? This game shows us, as Neil highlights, the cycle of violence, and vengeance. It’ll never end, that’s why this game is so powerful. There’s no good character or bad character in this story (except a few characters such as ehem Isaac and infected), just the never ending loop, of wanting to make someone suffer the way they made us suffer, without considering other people’s stories or backgrounds. This is so important in today’s society, we blame someone without knowing their reasons. This game is not for closed minded people, but I think that’s why it was made, to open our eyes. Expand

Packed with wonderfully varied and beautiful places to explore which makes venturing off the beaten path all feel worth while. Combat can be stealthy or loud leading to viscous encounters. The story that takes you on a journey that will stay with you, from its quiet solem moments, to moments of terror and all out action. During my 25 hours I found little to no issues with the gameplay or (shock horror) the story which I surprisingly enjoyed, it made for a refreshing tale from Seeing 2 perspectives that kept me glued for hours on end. Even after having the game spoiled for me, I still found the story incredibly enjoyable introducing new characters all fleshed out and brought to life thanks to the games amazing visuals. The performances of the actors are also exceptional with many stand out moments. Seeing things from a different perspective made for an interesting story and gave more insight to what the world has become and those that inhabit it. The horror moments are definitely there too, several times the game caught me off guard making for some intense games of cat and mouse with the infected. Human enemies are also interesting, the stand out being the Scars, who communicate through a series of whistles and can easily catch you off guard. These intense moments are made all the more exciting thanks to the absolute stunning visuals. This is complimented by sound design, while using Razer Threshers the game sounds incredible to trickles of water to haunting echoes of gunfire in the distance. The game is also very accessible with generous checkpoints and a vast array of options to help those enjoy tdifferent ways with text to speach and more. In spite of being massively hated by people who haven't even played it, don't make that mistake. The last of us 2 is one hell of an adventure and will definitely be one I return to in the future.

If I was to have any niggling issues it a few insta deaths but it's nothing too severe. Some times the pacing feels a little off but in the grand scheme of things this was also a minor issue for me. The flashbacks didn't bother me and it was easy enough for me to follow and understand.

While I have said the graphics are amazing, I feel I need to reaffirm just to how spectacular they are. On PlayStation Pro this game is eye wateringly good, right down to little details. The water is just amazing, there's even little frogs that populate some areas, it's without a doubt the most jaw dropping game I've played in terms of visuals. It looks so damn good, you may have seen the GIFs from SunhilLegend where the gameplay looks like a cutscene in action. Just very impressive. The last of us 2 is another quality title in a long line of quality exclusives for the PlayStation platform, packed with so many incredible moments. It's a perplexing issue as to why so many hate it, I can't speak for them, but my own experience was overwhelmingly positive. Its certainly one of those things people will argue until they're blue in the face. Some people will just hate it regardless and I can't understand why. My time spent playing was an absolute adventure. Its brutal, bloody, emotional and I can't wait to play it all over again on PS5.

It is one of the most if not the most complicated story driven game of all time.
Now i know there are a lot of negative reviews out there but what people don't understand is every single person in this game is a protagonist of their own story. You guys have every right to hate Abby because she killed one of the most beloved protagonist of the generation in that brutal fashion but if Ellie was in Abby's shoes you could not say she would've done different. I get that it is really difficult to get over a loss like that and show empathy but i request you guys to at least give it a try. Now to the review, this game is one of the most beautiful game on the Playstation, Every little corner is very well defined and is the biggest game created by Naughty dog so far. The combat mechanics is very brutal but satisfying given the context. The story is very complex and poetic that in this post apocalyptic world, the writers want you understand every decision made by Ellie and every other character. The story might be way too brutal and unforgiving but in a post apocalyptic world like this these people do what they need to do to survive. The ending is not unjust, its just that Ellie finally understands that she has hurt Abby enough and figured out that all this violence is unneeded and empathizes Abby........
If you thought this review was too cheesy or whatever i am sorry but that's what i honestly think. So do not just believe any negative reviews you read online because most of their reviews are 2 dimensional for a lack of a better word. And some of them just give bad reviews just to join in on all the hype or to get attention
    THANK YOU ALL FOR UNDERSTANDING

Warning! This way too long review is genuinely my opinion. I did not give it a 10 just to balance all of the negative reviews (many of which I am sure are genuine although I doubt the legitimacy of many others).

The Last of Us Part II is, in my opinion, a masterpiece and probably the greatest and most beautiful piece of video game storytelling I have ever experienced in my life. I was emotionally moved by this game in a way no other game ever came close.

Since the story is obviously the most controversial part of the game, I'll talk about the technical aspects of the game first.

On a base PS4, the game runs incredibly smooth. I have experienced no FPS drops during my playthrough and encountered only one non-game breaking glitch (I have experienced several crashes during the first several hours, but after restarting my console the game ran perfectly so it probably wasn't a problem with the game itself). The graphics in this game are also absolutely breathtaking. The apocalypse has never looked more beautiful. The sound design is also perfectly done (fair warning: I know practically nothing about sound design and mixing, so for me it basically comes down to whether the game sounded good). This game is easily the most immersive game I have ever played. There are so many tiny details in the world that really make you feel like every single room you enter in the game has a story of it's own.

Let's talk about gameplay. The gameplay is improved in every possible way from the first game. In combat and stealth sections there are some really great new mechanics, like dodging hits in hand-to-hand combat, or going prone (is that the right way of saying that?) and sneaking in the grass or under cars. You can now also move through narrow cracks in walls, and there are some very welcomed rope mechanics (which seem to have been borrowed from Uncharted 4, not that I have a problem with that). The gameplay and movement just generally feel smoother than in the previous game. The AI (of both your enemies and companions) in the game also seems way more intelligent and advanced than in the previous game, especially on the higher difficulties (I played on hard).

I think that we can all agree that all the developers, coders and designers in Naughty Dog who worked their asses off should get massive respect.

Before I discuss the story, I just want to quickly acknowledge the amazing soundtrack by Gustavo Santaolalla. The soundtrack is incredibly atmospheric and really helps to immerse you in the story, characters and the world. There's not much else I can say about it, everyone knows that Gustavo Santaolalla is an absolute master at his craft.

Okay. Let's talk about the story, Easily the most divisive part of the game. Some love it and some think it completely destroys the characters. The situation is not unlike a certain highly divisive eighth movie in a series about space wizards (a movie which I happen to love). I should probably start by stating that if your complaints are anything other than "SJWs ruined the game with forced diversity" or something along those lines, I can absolutely understand the criticisms of the story, and why people would have a problem with it. I think your opinion will mainly depend on whether you can accept something that happens fairly early in the game, and whether you can sympathize with a certain character (I'm trying to remain as spoiler-free as possible). Personally, I found the story to be an incredibly compelling and moving tale about the cycle of violence and the nature of revenge. In my opinion, the story builds upon the story in the first game and feels like a natural continuation, making it worthy of being called "part 2" of the story. Every character in the game, both old and new, are all extremely sympathetic and likable, although some will not seem that way right from the start. Finally, all the voice and motion capture performances in this game are absolutely top notch (Troy Baker as Joel, Jeffrey Pierce as Tommy, Shannon Woodward as Dina, Stephen A. Chang as Jesse and Laura Bailey as Abby are all fantastic) and bring the characters and their relationships to life (especially the relationship between Ellie and Dina), but I especially want to single out Ashley Johnson, who should receive every single award possible for her absolutely incredible and heartbreaking performance as Ellie.

    10/10, Absolute masterpiece.

I have the unpopular opinion of liking this game I suppose. I don’t think it was perfect, there are a few moments in the story where I just said to myself, ‘why did they include that? Nothing came of it?’. But most of these things I could ignore.

What I couldn’t ignore was the ending. The ending left me pretty sad. I didn’t like who Ellie had become, her bad decisions essentially leave her utterly alone and that was incredibly frustrating and sad to watch. I understand why it ended the way it did, Ellie brought it upon herself, she has to face the consequences. But I can’t help but feel it could have ended slightly differently with a happier tone. An ending where Ellie still faces the consequences but at least has the opportunity to redeem herself off screen. Spoiler - It also is revealed that the one thing keeping her memory of Joel alive is also gone. So it’s double sad!

On the plus side, I think Naughty Dog deserves props to the way in which they present this story. Seeing the tale play out from the perspective of the two opposing sides was very refreshing and left me torn and angered when seeing the two fight. I verbally said many times while playing ‘why are you making me do this game!’. It challenged me to empathise with both sides and I found it hard not too, so when it did come to the characters fighting I really didn’t want anyone to get hurt or win! It had my heart in a grip and would not let go. This is one of the reasons I like this game, no other game has made me feel this kind of pain before. I could literally feel my heart having pains! (I’m pretty sure it wasn’t a stroke).

The story is definitely not free of its flaws and the gameplay is the same traditional Naughty Dog style, which I don’t mind. But I know some people are looking for more initiative game play mechanics. I can respect that. But this is definitely, in my opinion one of the best games I have played when you put every aspect together.

It is a Naughty Dog game so great visuals and sound design are a guarantee but that doesn’t mean it doesn’t deserve recognition for how Amazing everything looks and sounds, and it truly does look and sound beautiful. Something else I can really appreciate from this game is the amount of little details added into this world. You can find so many letters and visuals that tell stories, I personally found it really interesting to read and search around the environments. Also another thing I really liked was the level design, dependent on the pacing of the game the environments sometimes are smaller to move you along quicker but when they are not they are much vaster than the first game and really enjoyable to explore. I also love looking for the safe codes, you need to look for clues to unlock them and enter the code yourself which I thought was a neat addition to the game.

Something else I really liked was Abby has a fear of heights so when you stand too close to an edge and look down she starts to panic, I thought that was some awesome attention to detail.

Final thoughts, I would say try it out for yourself because everyone has an opinion on this game, my view is that good art challenges the views of the consumer. It is not good practice for a story to keep the consumer feeling safe and comfy through a story as this is not good story telling, it makes you feel nothing. Good story telling takes you out of your comfort zone, it makes you angry, worried, scared, excited. And this game certainly had people angry. I don’t think that’s a bad thing. I think this game challenge people and in my opinion, that’s what art is supposed to do.

This game seems to be an awful lot like marmite, and I love marmite.

    Thanks for reading x

Ps. Ellie and Dina made my heart feel very warm and fuzzy.

Playing as that character does not force you to have any particular opinion of them, just shows them as human, which they are, and builds on the narrative. And even if you don't like to play as them or empathise with them, they are an absolute tank and you have to give them credit as a formidable force to be reckoned with.
The ending is perfect and satisfying if you're following it like a story and not a self-insert. No it might not be what you would do, but if you are interested in a character's development, their feelings and trauma and path to deal with it, this is a masterpiece. It's a movie that you interact with, more than a game: just like the first one. (But also, the way the story unfolds, I can't imagine taking any other course of action once you actually get to that point: really I don't see how most players could be disappointed, don't be afraid of the ending.)
It doesn't follow the story you expect it to, it follows one that is much more human, more nuanced, and more beautiful. It's not a simple revenge story, it's a revenge story as advertised but also so much more.
As a final note: it's not a feminist game, it just happens to have female leads. It doesn't force representation, people other than straight white men just exist in the world.

I bought collectibles, books, a comic and Joel's watch. I couldn't get enough. I adore these characters and I didn't know what to expect with this game other than that it would be an incredible story, I adore Naughty Dog's games and their creativity and guts. I started playing this game on day one and finished two days later. It was an incredibly emotional journey for me, someone who adores these characters and had to do things in this game that I didn't want to do. At first, I didn't know how to feel about everything, but after sitting with my thoughts especially after I had finished, I am still blown away by the story and more and more I appreciate it. I want to explain how this is a fantastic game without analyzing the plot to show how most of the hate towards it is unfair, because I think the story while bold and unexpected was brilliant and well-executed. So instead I want to focus on how the game made me feel. Some parts absolutely melted my heart. Some broke my heart. And others made me question if I needed a break, either I really didn't want to do what I had to in order to continue or I needed a break from the jump scares because this game definitely got a lot more intense and terrifying than the first. I think not everyone is going to love this game, for sure, no game this intense is for everyone, but I think it's incredibly unfair to say that anything ruined it. This game forces you to think very deeply about yourself, the way you see people who have hurt you and even these characters we love and are hesitant to see in a poor light. No one is perfect and this game shows that in clever and important ways. I'm going to play it again probably tonight now that I've taken a couple days to sit with my initial shock and process it, because it is very heavy content but wow will it stay with me forever. I am so proud of everyone at Naughty Dog who made this the emotional and beautifully intense game that it is, especially the incredible voice/mo-cap actors and Neil Druckmann and Halley Gross who didn't back down from the hate and made the story they wanted to make, that deserved to be made. I wouldn't judge anyone who just didn't care for the story overall or didn't love new mechanics or the pacing perhaps but I really think that anyone who wants to leave a bad review should make sure they play the game fully, process it and leave the characters' backgrounds out of it because while I love these new characters and think that Ellie living as her authentic self are fantastic, this is a story about so many different people who never make it into games like this and them existing is not some sort of agenda, a vendetta to bomb a game simply because they exist in it is. Anyways, I implore everyone to give this game a shot and see what you think. I value it so deeply and while so much of it is hard and saddening content because, well, their world is hard and saddening, every day I think of the parts that melted my heart over and over again and that keeps a smile on my face. New Game + here I come. :) Cheers! Expand

The story is a emotional Rollercoaster with decisions you have to make with whom you don't 100% agree. The individual character stories got me driven but the reason why I dont give this game a 10/10 is because I did not like it to play Abby for soooo long. Her arc could be shorter and this game would be perfect for me + I found some deaths of characters pretty lame but at the same time realistic. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Graphics - 9/10
+ Great graphics overall, perfect shadows/light effects, detailed textures and beautiful landscapes.
+ Very natural animations, and perfect facial expressions in both cutscenes, and during gameplay (for example during steaths kills).
    - Experience some minor pop up issues [-1pts].

    Sound - 10/10
+ Perfect sound design, very detailed sound effects (for example, it's possible to crack the safes by listening to the clicks, no need to find the code)
    + Great music, perfect fit.
    + Awesome voice acting.

    Gameplay - 6/10
+ Very responsive controls, great shooting, weapon sway feels very natural.
+ Encounters are challenging, especially when engaged in open combat.
    - Stealth, however, is serviceable; throw distractions, stealth kills and silenced weapons, there is just one possible way to stealth kill, no option to do a stealth kill from above for example. [-1pts]
    - IA don't react to sound, except for bottles/bricks, running or shooting. You can drop from a ledge or into the water right behind enemies and they don't react. [-1pts]
    - IA don't react to your flashlight. [-1pts]
    - All the issues above combined makes extremely easy to exploit the IA, for example, throwing a bottle, then a molotov, is a very effective tactic for most of the game [-1pts]

    Level design - 10/10
+ Maps are perfectly designed, feels much bigger than really is, provides many different ways to approach the encounters, with very organic interactive points (ledges, vaults, hiding spots, etc).
+ Interesting puzzles, nothing complex, but also not too easy.
+ Different enemy types keeps things varied and interesting for the whole game.

    Storyline - 0/10

    - Joel dies too early in my opinion, the very little build up for the moment, the way it happens don't fit the character at all, Joel would never give his real name surrounded by a bunch of strangers with mean looks on their faces. Totally out of charracter. [-3pts]
    - This one major flaw in my opinion, Abby storyline is very little internwined with Ellie storyline, only happens at the very end, felt like a huge missopportunity. The whole time, while playing Abby section, I kept thinkins "When this is gonna end and go back to the main plot?" [-3pts]
    - Also Tommy, I think he should have played a bigger role during Abby storyline, she should be the one leading the defense against Tommy's attack. Instead we get what feels like a "side quest" with Liv/Yara [-2pts]
    - Some huge plot holes, how did Amy get to the Aquarium? After you banged Owen, you leave to help Liv and Yara, then come back and suddenly Amy is there. The area was supposed to be crawling with Scars, you even got captured trying to reach the Aquarium yourself (only to be saved by Liv and Yara). How a pregnant woman got there without any trouble, and aparently faster than Abby? How Tommy survived a headshot? How did he get back to Jackson? [-1pts]
    - The flashbacks should be the game storyline as they are way more interesting than the main storyline. [-1pts]

The story is phenomenal. One of the greatest (if not the greatest) story based games I will ever play and better than many feature films. You will go through experiencing a rollercoaster of emotions

My only gripe is that some gameplay sections are a little repetitive, hence the -1 for the review.

You have to wonder, if the critic score is so high, and the user score is so low, is there something wrong with a large percentage of the gamer community? Yes. They haven't developed the mental grit needed to cope with the emotions this game will give you and as such register anger as they force their entitled view. My goodness I didn't realise the gaming community was full of such whining little babies.

You wouldn't go ask Gordon Ramsay to critique a plate of food and completely ignore his review once he gives it a 9/10 would you? Do yourself a favour, listen to the critics who know what they are talking about. Or at the very least, play it and make your mind up for yourself without reading these reviews.

This game is technically the most impressive thing I've ever witnessed in games, and despite being released on a console, outclasses pretty much anything I've played on PC (I'm a PC guy). It's just unbelieveable to behold.

But, what is far more important, Naughty Dog has created the most gripping, roller-coaster and brutal narrative experiences in games and probably they are the only ones that are ever going to be able to top it. Last of Us Part I was just so easy to love, because despite the bleakness and harshness and killing, every decision you made as the protagonist you felt was right; and it made you feel good about yourself. Part II in turn will make you hate yourself all the time, hate the characters, hate their actions and hate the world they are in. And it does it on purpose, and with a clear aim of putting to test the very basic fantasy of revenge that is used recklessly and stupidly in so many Hollywood movies, mainstream games and works of fiction.

Naughty Dog could have went the easy road and create lukewarm semi-open world, boring fetch quest fest, that (judging from comments and other reviews) so many people would be content with. I respect Naughty for doing the opposite and having the courage to use the characters they created for something more meaningful despite knowing how much flak they would get. When Druckmann argued they did it because of love they had for Joel and Ellie, he was right: these characters deserved to be parts of story that would leave nobody indifferent, regardless of the side they would end up on. In the very least it would be eye opening experience to at least some.

Because, pains to say this, the mainstream public is being used to, and constantly served, cosy, simple stories in which moral divisions are clear and simple. The most we can expect in terms of moral grayness are antagonists that are somehow interesting and likeable. Revenge fantasies, even full of brutality, are constructed in a way that makes the viewer/player feel warm inside and shout out 'go get them, tiger' with each body falling to the floor, conveniently dying quickly, cleanly, and without a word of complaint. That's entertainment, that's using a framework of children stories morality to make adults happy.

Last of Us II subverts that, and it does so mercilessly. Each time you kill, you'll hear a shout of agony, each time a body is found, some friend of the fallen will lament, calling out his name. Your friends will die, some of them by your own hand, recognizing you moments before their death. Does it feel uncomfortable, does it feel bad to kill like this? Well, shame to rain on your parade, I guess it turns out that killing and revenge is not such a feel good business as John Wick made you believe.

That's the core gripe many people seem to have with the game. It made them feel like **** doing ****ty things. But hey, that's life I guess. It is only modern pop corn entertainment's fault that it pampers us so much that we ended up believing that the world is cleanly divided between the good guys and the bad guys.

All game systems strongly support the main goal that Naughty set for this game. It is almost flawless from the standpoint of game mechanics and I do not even want to deliberate too long on this. The only issue I have are maybe with the skill trees, which are even weirder in Last of Us Part I. There are clearly some skills that are nearly useless and would never be unlocked if they did not block access to skills that are useful. That's minor thing, though.

The game is long, as it's told from two perspectives. It feels even too long, because it puts you through such a wringer that at some point you just want all of that to stop. During the last fight there were moments when I just couldn't make myself do anything, both because I was so exhausted, and because I had difficulty accepting what I was supposed to do. The length, however, is a proof that Naughty Dog did not spare any effort or cost to drive their main point home: revenge is just a childish fantasy, self feeding spiral of death and brutality that quickly loses the clarity and nobility of its initial goal.

This game is not entertainment. It will not entertain you, in the simplistic meaning of this word. It will, however, allow you to live through an experience that, if you're open to it, will alter (or strengthen) the way you think about loss, death and your initial impulse to lash out and hurt.

I'm not sure if I will ever play this game again. In a sense, this is a one-time experience. It will however, be up there with a bunch of other works of art that had such an impact on me that I do not have to go through them again to remember them and have them fuel me through the rest of my life.

No character development and everyone is in a far worse state at the end of the game. The only person that gets a good ending is the antagonist. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The Last of Us is my favorite game.
Normally I am unsure about a sequel being made for any game due to fearing that it would be ruined, but not for this game. I’ve complimented and respected Naughty Dog more than any other game developers. I watched only the first two trailers, avoided all spoilers, and I was expecting this game was going to be just as amazing as the first.

However that is not what was done, and I’ve never been more disappointed.

Joel did nothing wrong, and it seems people really don’t understand it correctly. Joel and Ellie are treated horrifically by the Fireflies. Ellie is unconscious and was suffocating, and Joel was trying to get her breathing again and he’s even calling out for help yet the fireflies assault Joel stopping his attempt to save her and nearly getting Ellie killed. After barely receiving a thank you, Joel is told that Ellie is going to be murdered and that they both don’t even get to say goodbye. They don't even give Joel the decency rewarding him with what was originally promised, instead he's ordered to leave at gunpoint. Ellie is treated even worse, they treat her with complete disrespect and don't even allow her to recover from nearly drowning or to wake up and allow her to know what's going on. Not even 24 hours after the first immune person they've ever seen arrives and they're preparing to kill her.

I never expected Joel to live and I wasn’t disliking the game because he died. It was diffidently angering, but it wasn’t a problem to me. However now that I have seen the one trailer I understand why so many people are upset about it. It’s completely filled with false advertisement and is a huge lie.

There was no need to add nudity into the game, and I’m not just talking about Abby, Ellie too. Ellie being half nude was just an excuse to sexualize the character and nothing more. There could have been multiple other ways to achieve the same type of scene without sexualizing Ellie. Abby’s sex scene was awful, and her appearance has nothing to do with it. Another excuse to just sexualize a character and add porn into the game. Any game developer who adds porn into a game to "make it better" I have no respect for. People need to stop being so disgustingly lustful. For some reason people think it’s okay to sexualize everything, but it’s not. It’s actually horrible.

Whether you care or not this game was very clear on shoving an opinion in your face. The developers had stated that as a fact. They should have focused on making the game a game, and not some garbage propaganda. The problem wasn’t what was in the game, it was how it was done.

Character development was awful, and then anything that was good was destroyed by the poor story directive. Ellie didn't even feel like the main character.

There were so many major story failures in this game. Somehow Abby's group of 8, who barely knew the area which has just been hit by a snow storm, and doesn’t have any transport, somehow gets away from Tommy. Tommy travels by horse, knows the area, and knows where they’re going. He would’ve caught up within a week at most and then killed them all. There were so many failures in the story like this and I probably could have accepted most of these flaws if the game had been good but that was not the case.

The story is diffidently 10/10... for what Neil Druckmann and ND wanted to do, they destroyed what should have been just as good as the first one and they did it on purpose. I wish I could at least give a 2/5 for the good parts of the game, but ND not only ruined it, they also made the first game worse by doing so. So even 1/5 seems like a generous rating. I would’ve given 75/100 to 90/100 for up to the end of day 3 as Ellie, 50/100 to 70/100 up until right before the theater as Abby, and upon completing the game and considering the good parts of it 35/100 would be my highest rating.

People claiming that it’s a “dark” game and it’s meant to be the way it is changes nothing. I normally really like depressing games and this is not one of them.

By the end of the game it no longer even felt like The Last of Us.

Maybe it is a “good” game, but as The Last of Us Part 2 it's horrible.

I rated it a zero for the fact that the media ratings are clearly bought. My user rating is more along a 4 or 5 but the media ratings being as high as they are need to be balanced out, this game is not a perfect 10. Do not waste your money. Play The Last of Us part 1 as a standalone game, do not bother with this sequel.

Beautiful, gritty and fitting sequel. Despite the negativity surrounding the game, the developers have crafted an incredible, emotional rollarcoaster of a title.

Haven't played many games that much, but based on what I've read on the subreddit for this game, the story just makes sense. It's okay if others won't accept what happened, because that's just what life is. Still a likely candidate for the game of the year for me! :)

I could play this games over and over again and never get bored. The pace of the story is set right from the off and the action begins from Joel’s death to when you fight Abby all the way at the end, it was a real rollercoaster and it made me want to play the game more and more. It was simply a masterpiece the development team did a superb job.

The game itself is so clean and the environment is so crisp and it looks absolutely amazing and it matches much to what the developers had promised us fans. Much to my surprise I don’t understand why this game is getting so much hate. Sure it might not be the game we all wanted (I sure wanted this level of game though) but it was the game we all needed. I hope TLOU3 is definitely the next project Naughty Dog are whipping up because I can’t wait to play as Ellie my favorite games character ever. It was an absolute pleasure to play such an incredible game and I commend Naughty Dog for what they have done!!

As a sequel to one of the most loved games of all time, the story here is tremendously controversial. It takes you down paths that force you to question motivation and justice vs mercy along with the characters in the story. It's a beautifully written story created to make you feel torn. Nobody will finish this game with a smile on their face, even if you loved it the way my brother and I did. But I do assure you that the critics talking about plot holes and bad story decisions are wrong. They either don't get it, or fell into what naughty dog was trying to do to deeply. It's supposed to be hard. There are no happy endings in this post apocalyptic world.

The gameplay was leagues ahead of it's predecessor. Rarely does combat feel so smooth. It often looks as if each move you make is scripted. Dodging and striking and running all happen exactly as you want them to, and the kills are always satisfying. My only real critique is not big enough to drop my score from 5 stars. The lootingnand exploration can be excessive. Skill and gear progression is based on exploration and looting. If you don't look in every corner you will miss out on abilities, weapons or upgrades. Overall it's a masterpiece.

It's a next gen game and still is running smoothly on the Ps4. This is my favourite game series and it deserved better ratings. There are some critic points like (SPOILER!!!)

how Joel died or the flashbacks. But they had to do something, that hits your emotions, without anything special happening the game would be boring. What were you guys expecting? A peaceful happy end? Again, the first part was great and the second one is a worthy successor of it. My most favourite games of all time!

Naughty dog treated beloved characters like crap. The setting and the story are terrible and sloppy. This franchise is all about the story; and attachment to the characters; without the story the game means nothing. Great graphics; good gameplay mechanics; but it does not compensate the horrible story in this game. What a dissapointment.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. What a let down from Naughty Dog, Technically a masterpiece but unfortunately the game they tacked it is a travesty to the first game. It actually might have worked had this been an original story but they write off a key character of the first game early on in order for focus on ruining the other key character with a terrible plot, and the tragic thing is it's written expressly to pander to a demographic who are are unappeasable and probably won't be interesting in buying this anyway.
Given the disparity between the audience scores and the "critics" and how many of them posted pretty much exactly the same lines at the same time it's clear the game journo lists is alive and well.

It's Naughty Dog's series and they told the story they wanted to, it just isn't anything like the story I wanted apart from one flashback stage. Ultimately, in telling their story they forgot that games have to be fun, and when the story gets in the way of that like this does, that is how a 10/10 masterpiece ends up with a bad rating.

My respect to Neil Druckmann who has crafted a complex and intricate narrative within a medium that he changed 7 years ago with the first game. The central theme of the game is the endless cycle of violence. A disease that we humans have been victims of for thousands of years. If the first game is about love and care for one another, this one is about revenge and the terrible consequences that it brings. I have seen a lot of biased opinions towards the story and I say biased because of the people who criticized the leaks instead of playing the actual game. The game is constructed from the perspective of two central characters Ellie and Abby, (yes, not Joel, get over it) two sides of the same coin, through which we can see the horror of the post-outbreak world. I'm not trying to convince people who disliked it that this is a masterpiece for the ages. It's pointless arguing and it says a lot about you if you are unable to understand what the game is trying to tell you. I am writing this to show appreciation towards Neil Druckmann and the Naughty Dog Team who deserve it and have given us so much. And all I want to say to you Neil is: From the bottom of my heart, THANK YOU. I'll be forever changed by this experience and I hope that someday I can create just a bit of what you have done with these two games.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. What makes a game truly good is if you enjoyed it thoroughly. A good game should be equal parts amazing gameplay and amazing story. Naughty Dog has knocked it out the park again with the Last of Us Part 2 with amazing, fun, and addictive gameplay. But where it fails with its over-ambitious story. It's far too long. Worse yet it runs roughshod over the protagonists of the original game. Joel is retconned as a selfish murderer and Ellie becomes a vengeful vixen. Neil Druckman and his fellow writer Halley Gross brings us an extremely conflicted girl power-driven, social justice laden, white men are bad, white women are great, lesbians are even better game. While I love complicated games and protagonists who are woefully human, hate sequels that do not honor the stakes of what came before. Joel's decision to save Ellie at the end of the original games was not because Joel was a heartless villain, it was because he came to love Ellie as a daughter. His saving Ellie was a sacrifice on his part, not a selfish act. He knew there would be no coming back from what he did, yet he did it anyway to save his daughter. Yet in this game we are presented with the wrongheaded belief what Joel did to save Ellie was wrong, not only wrong but that he deserved a brutal, ignoble, and painful death at the hands a superior ALPHA Women. During her quest for revenge Ellie becomes the villain and Abby is painted as the hero. A bold choice, yes, but amazingly wrongheaded. It's like making a movie from the daughter of a Nazi point of view as she seeks justice for her father who was executed rightfully by Jewish vigilantes for his war crimes. "Child murder" is never okay even if the action of murdering a child has the potential to save billions of lives. Sometimes a sequel should never be made. This was one of those times. Expand

In it´s core The Last of Us Part II is an exploration of hate, revenge and consequences of one's actions. There are a lot of heartwarming and sweet moments throughout The Last of Us Part II which balance the heavy subject matter perfectly. I liked that player gets to see games conflict from different points of view. Like in the real world, conflicts and opposing points of view are not black and white, there´s no clear bad guy or good guy. I don´t want to spoil the story, but lets just say that in the game, after being blinded by hate that sudden relization of the cost of ones choices hits hard.
Graphics are amazing and enviroments are astoundingly rich with detail. Story is great, it´s an emotional rollercoaster, it stays with you when you finish the game. Gameplay is exciting and in most cases keep you the edge of your seat.

Initially, the game was a 4/10 from me. I went into the game to give it a genuine chance and played with an open mind. Sure the choice to kill Joel in the opening hours of the game was jarring. I thought it was a perfect catalyst to offset the story and gave the right motivation for Ellie and company.

The juxtaposition to Abby's story was stark contrast and perfect parallel to Ellie's descent into madness. I just wasn't too impressed with some of the decisions made in the story, and some of the character moments and dialogue were weak in comparison to the original.

Standing on its own, segments and dialogue between characters weren't as exciting and wasn't as engaging, I didn't have too much attachment to Jesse or Dina throughout the story. The new side characters introduced in Abby's section of the game were interesting and a breath of fresh air, but didn't have enough screen time to develop before certain story events happen.

And I get the praise for graphics, but inevitably graphics are only going to improve and look better in the next few years, so I don't tend to get overly excited over graphics. But it is a pretty game.

The gameplay is fun, but nothing crazy innovative. The map layout for each encounter keeps combat engaging and exciting at times, and the hide-and-seek type of combat is fun. As well, I do like the section of the game where it straight-up turns into resident evil.

Overall, I respect the themes and concepts that Neil and the team at Naughty Dog worked to achieve, but I do have to knock it down a bit for its execution. The gameplay and graphics are what makes this game worth playing, but delving into a story-driven drama where the story is the weakest part of the affair does dampen the experience.
