Gameplay was super fun! The first half was engaging, really liked this continuation. During the second half, I can't lie the story lost me, but it eventually dragged me back it. The story isn't for everyone, but overall I enjoyed it! Gameplay is 10/10!

For me this was a big disappointment and I sold it as soon as I finished it. I couldn't have cared less about the story. Actually, that's not accurate. I really disliked the story. And the game spends a lot of time on that narrative, which for me was a big drag. Gameplay was far less interesting than Part 1. All in all, a miss for me. But probably depends if you're into the story.

There is timing and skill to use the 'shock' value in order to benefit the story or enrich the characters, but that is not the case here. I've never been more disappointed in my life with a game than this one. It promised me one thing and secretly put something else in as a replacement. This game lied, swapped what it advertised for something gross and spat in the face of its fans. While I will not spoil the story, I will allude to my take on the overall tone of the plot and make reference to a gameplay change that happens mid-way through, so I leave it up to you if that's too much.

    You’ve been warned.

The Last of Us 2 is easily one of the most divisive games of all time. It makes some bold choices in its story telling that many do not like; however, the greatness of gameplay is often lost in this debate. In terms of gameplay, the game builds on everything the first game did well. The Last of Us was fun, but the story and enemy design did a lot of the heavy lifting. This time around, there is more of game worth playing, even if you don't care for the story. There is a point in the game where the character stats reset, and, again, this is divisive. Contrary to how some have put it, you are not redoing everything you’ve already done; however, it’s not a totally new gameplay experience either. It changes up some skills and craftable items, but that’s about it. If you think this will annoy you, keep that in mind. For what it's worth, I barely thought twice about this until I saw so many people being upset by it.

Now, on to the story, which is much harder to discuss spoiler free, so I am going to try and be a bit objective.

I think you owe it to yourself to play this game and formulate your own take on its story. In the end, Sony and Naughty Dog are taking big risks on this series. It paid off in the first game and was (nearly) universally praised by critics and fans. This time, it's is far more divisive. Like the first game, the story is not meant to be satisfying. It's meant to be true to the characters and world in which they exist. It's a credit to the writers of the sequel that it never feels like they are trying to outdo the original. They're just trying to continue the story. They make some very bold decisions here, and these do overflow into the game’s design and create scenarios you may not enjoy, and I do not believe you are meant to. It was my opinion that these situations felt organic to the story, and, especially the characters, and not forced. If you want a game that makes you feel comfortable all the time, this is not the game for you.

As for the ending, I understand a lot of the criticism there, but I was more ok with it than most; however, your mileage will vary depending on how attached or unattached you are to characters. You experience with narratives outside of video games will likely influence your thoughts as well.

In summary, I think this good game for every gamer to play as you can have fun while having your expectations challenged. If you go in with this expectation, you'll likely walk away with a more positive opinion than most.

It is a miracle that we get to have a stories like this in AAA titles. While it may not be everyone's cup of tea, appreciate what you can, while you can. I am concerned gamers will start pushing back on challenging stories, just as movie goers did with film. It's quite likely that, one day, all AAA game stories will be as formulaic, predicable, and full of fan service as the modern movie blockbuster.

Nowhere near as good as the first, but still good. The gameplay is fantastic. Even on normal difficulty it can get really challenging. There isn't always a lot of ammo and shooting both people and infected has never felt so fun. The stealth was also so fun and so filled with tension. The story is where this game kinda falls apart. There are a lot of plot holes and contrivances. I also thought that the game was kinda in the wrong order. You first play as Ellie and then you play as another character and you play through the same days as you did Ellie. If you rearrange the scenes, it becomes a lot less messy. At first, the direction the story took seemed baffling, but over time, I grew to understand why they took the route they took. Another problem is that many of the character deaths don't have that huge of an effect on the story. Other than that though... Idk, I didn't really hate this at all. This was great. To me personally, plot holes don't really ruin a story for me, unless there is nothing holding the story together and I wouldn't really say that counts for this game. I liked this a lot and if you don't, that's fine, but don't get mad at me just because I liked a game you didn't. I liked this a lot and even with the huge story problems, I still couldn't not like this a lot. Hot take, I know. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Last of Us Part 2 is a pathetic attempt at storytelling that utterly ruins the legacy of its predecessor. Neil and his media-friends' political views are shoved down our throats, making the story feel like a cheap propaganda piece rather than a genuine narrative.

As for the characters, don't even get me started. Neil thinks he's a master anti-hero storyteller, but in reality, he's a talentless hack who relies on cheap emotional manipulation to try and make us care about his dull and uninteresting characters. Abby is a boring, one-dimensional character who adds nothing to the story except for pointless violence and misery. And don't even get me started on her dad. Who the hell cares about some loser because he saves a zebra?

The decision to destroy the beloved characters of Joel and Ellie is nothing short of a travesty. Joel, who was once a complex and sympathetic character, is reduced to a mere plot device whose only purpose is to die a meaningless death in the first act of the game. This cheap, lazy attempt at creating a shocking moment only serves to undermine the impact of the first game and leaves a sour taste in the mouth of anyone who cared about Joel's story.

And what about Ellie? Druckmann takes a character who was once brave, strong, and determined and turns her into a pathetic, whiny mess who is unrecognizable from her former self. Her descent into misery and despair feels forced and manipulative, and it's insulting to see such a great character be reduced to this.

Last of Us Part 2 is a prime example of what happens when a writer's ego gets in the way of good storytelling, and it's a tragedy for fans of the franchise.

Abby had a lot of reasons to kill Joel and developers showed that Joel's actions have a lot of consequences.

Those who finished the game understand that its inpossible to finish the game in one day, so the hate is based on Joel's death. Okay, its your right, but its not worth to punish the good game only because it did not meet your expectations.

    Rating: ★☆☆☆☆

The Last of Us Part 2 is a prime example of a game that prioritizes pushing a supposed "LGBT agenda" over delivering a compelling and enjoyable experience. This sequel is marred by heavy-handed and forced attempts at inclusivity, overshadowing any potential for a well-crafted story and engaging gameplay.

Rather than focusing on the characters and their development, the game seems more interested in hammering its progressive messaging into the player's consciousness. The inclusion of LGBTQ+ characters feels contrived and unnecessary, as their sexual orientation becomes their defining trait rather than an aspect of their identity. The narrative sacrifices depth and coherence to virtue signal, resulting in a disjointed and unsatisfying storyline.

Unfortunately, this obsession with inclusivity negatively impacts the gameplay as well. The forced diversity feels more like tokenism, with the game's agenda taking precedence over meaningful gameplay mechanics. It's clear that the developers prioritized their message over creating a polished and enjoyable gaming experience.

In addition to the narrative shortcomings, the gameplay itself is riddled with flaws. The combat encounters lack innovation and fail to offer any real challenge, while the stealth mechanics feel clunky and unrefined. The pacing is uneven, with stretches of repetitive gameplay that make the experience monotonous and tedious.

Furthermore, technical issues plague the game, with frequent frame rate drops and glitches that disrupt immersion and undermine the overall experience. It's disheartening to see a game of this magnitude released with such significant technical shortcomings.

Ultimately, The Last of Us Part 2's preoccupation with pushing an "LGBT agenda" at the expense of a well-crafted narrative and enjoyable gameplay is a disservice to the potential of the franchise. Instead of embracing diversity in a meaningful way, the game comes across as pandering and lacks the substance that made its predecessor so memorable. It's a missed opportunity and a disappointing addition to the series .

Hmmmm... where do i start? So many people complained about this game... and i also got a lot of issuse. Gameplay wise it's great! Nearly no bugs! Nice movement, but not so many new gameplay elements. But story wise... damn i think they messed up the whole series... and if they release a 3rd part, i will wait and don't buy it on day one!

TLOU 1 was one of the best games I have ever had the pleasure of experiencing. It was beautiful. This sequel is like someone took that beautiful thing and smashed it repeatedly in the head with a golf club, and then spat on it.

The problem is not what happened in the story, the problem is the way it was written in is just simply bad writing, and is not worthy of the name.

A complete disappointment, I waited almost a decade for a game so disappointing in terms of script(change in direction). The Last of Us 1 was flawless in that regard. Tlou part 2 failed with fake trailers at E3 2017 and beyond, (through Sony's fault) failed to deliver the factions online and mainly due to leaks before the date. Not to mention postponements resulted in the game being leaked. FAILURE OF THE DECADE

It disrespects the original story, its characters, and its fans. There are several plot holes but people circlejerk the brand so hard that they just overlook them. I'm a huge PS fan, I'm a huge fan of Last of Us 1, but I can't just lie to myself and say this was a good sequel. I think a 5.8 user score is too high, deserves a 2 or 3 imo

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I just bought the game for $10 (PSN Spring Sale). I haven’t picked up a controller since 2016, and have been busy with life so I thankfully missed all the hateful discourse surrounding this game. I did however overhear a couple of people at work mention something about Joel dying when the leaks came out and while I did find it sad, I was only mildly intrigued. I mean, it didn’t take a lot to arrive at the conclusion that someone from the first game must have killed him, and I guessed that it would be someone from the Fireflies. I was surprisingly close, too. I love TLOU, I love Joel and Ellie’s bond, although I am perhaps one of the few people who was very disappointed at his actions at the end, although I did understand why he did what he did. I wish his character hadn’t been written to end up being in theory, evil, because that meant the recovery of his “humanity” came at a very, very high cost. Anyway, I digress. I bought a PS4 just so I could play TLOU Remastered - I actually only have 2 other games, Witcher 3 and DA:I). Just as before, I took time from work these past few days just to play TLOU Part II, as I simply don’t have time. The graphics are amazing, MOST of the characters are compelling, but I think the game could have been a tad shorter. Maybe compress Ellie’s arc, and remove the early part of the first day of Abby’s. Because the game is so long, also getting so dark and violent, honestly if it weren’t for Lev, that courageous, unrelentingly kind boy, I wouldn’t have been able to keep playing without taking a break. The narrative does require a little bit of reflection - and I would even recommend some people to take a break after Ellie’s day 3. Take a break. Breathe. Go out for drinks. Hug your mom, dad, siblings, or whoever. Give your partner a kiss. Most people will need it, I’m sure. I am now on my second play through and I am slowly realizing that the story is much, much easier to understand the second time around. It’s as if Joel saying “I’d do it all over again” was some sort of sign. So yeah, this became longer than I had hoped, all I will say is buy the game (or rent it, or borrow a copy from a friend). And please, don’t let some random person, no matter how influential they may be, tell you whether you should play a game or not. It should be up to you. And if you have finished the game with an open mind and still end up not liking it, then that is perfectly fine! There are things that are objectively OK that you’re allowed to subjectively not like. For example, I recognize how a lot of people like MCU movies, Star Wars, etc. but I am just not a fan and while I will probably not rewatch any of those movies, I will also not say that the movies are BAD just because I didn’t like them. Anyway. Get this game. Play it. Meditate on it. You might just end up realizing that all the hate here is eerily one of the things that the game is trying to talk to you about. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I believe the risks taken with The Last of Us Part II"s narrative pays off and we're given a gripping, grim tale that is told through the perspectives of our main characters, Ellie and Abby. What I love most about this game is how similar Abby and Ellie are to each other to the point where they could be considered to be mirror images of one another. Throughout the story you learn about the pain that both of these characters go through and understand their reasoning and motivations behind their actions; as well as the impact that these actions have on the supporting characters. I believe this game to be so much more than a generic revenge tale that some fans of the first are dumbing it down to be. However, this game does lack any real replay value. There is new game plus but that feels more like a minimum with where games are today. Expand

Every story has two sides, and that doesn't just apply in games, as it does in real life, and the game showed that in the rawest possible way. At the end of the game, I understood both protagonists, but I realized that Ellie was still going through traumas, those that she thought would be overcome by killing Abby. Despite this, when she reached her goal, Ellie's emptiness was not filled, and thinking positively about Joel for a moment, she was able to take what was left of her humanity and allow Abby to live with Lev as she could no longer with Joel. Still, everything she did, risked, had consequences. When she couldn't play the guitar anymore...Damn, that really got to me, just not more than her last conversation with Joel. In the end, this game is much more than a story, it's a masterpiece. Expand

It's hard to find a story as engaging as the one in this game. I am unbelievable how long it took me to know The Last Of Us. The narrative is extremely gritty and follows bold writing choices to teach about perspectives, consequences, remorse, and a host of other themes. Another thing that is interesting to me is that the story and atmosphere of the game brings us with it in different situations, so that we really take control of Abby from where we are in Seattle, and with an in-depth look at Abby's life, even the existence of We forget about characters like Ellie, Dina, Jessie, etc., and finally we remember them again in the theater where all of Ellie's friend characters are seen. I mean, the story of the game is so interestingly designed. that the game mentally seems much longer than what it is and we really forget some of the moments of the game and this way of storytelling is really great.

Another point that I find interesting is Seattle itself, all the architecture of Seattle, important buildings, streets and houses around, etc., are all designed based on the real Seattle, and there is nothing different between the game Seattle and the real Seattle. No, and another point is that Seattle is dead, all the buildings are abandoned or destroyed or burned in the fire and the streets that have sunk and Seattle that has now turned into a green forest... and It can be well understood in this Seattle that we are in an apocalyptic world. And in general, the design of Seattle has turned out to be really great in every way.

The gameplay and graphics of the game are all really great, this game has an extremely exciting and fun gameplay.

What is interesting to me about the gameplay is that even though most of the game is in Seattle, in the same Seattle, we see many different environments, from sunlight and green forests to entering abandoned houses and tunnels the dark ones. And this really shows the creativity of Naughty Dog that they have created different environments from one city.

And of course, the beautiful and natural graphics of the game are also of interest, and what I find interesting about the graphics is the flickering mode on the screen, there is the flickering mode in the entire game.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Part I is possibly my favorite video game ever, because of the story. The only one that has ever brought me to tears. I even spent $70 on the PS5 Part I remake... and I gladly traded in Part II to get it...

I bought Part II in 2020, even knowing of the 'Joel death scene' leaks. I had faith in Naughty Dog as a newer fan. Since then I've been married, raising a daughter, and moving on with life during Covid-19. I have attempted to love and understand this game's story for the past few years now and with thorough research and analysis of this product, my only and ultimate conclusion is that this game is absolute, social pandering, manipulative, narrative trash.

Story: I feel like the writers either did not understand what the vast majority of fans liked about their first game or they just made stupidly over-bold decisions in the name of "creativity". The narrative pacing and the constant jumping around timelines is way too exhausting. By time they were showing me the context of a previous scene hours ago, my emotional investment and focus had already moved on. Abby and her dad could have been a really cool concept, if it was implemented very differently. Killing off Joel was not the problem, it's how they handled it. It was done so disrespectfully and out of character for everyone involved. They attempt manipulate me into liking Abby, the most irredeemable and unlikable character I've quite possibly ever played in a video game. I can't think of many characters in all of media that I dislike more than Abby: replies "good" to the opportunity to kill an unconscious pregnant woman, engaging in an affair with a father to be, killing off her entire group of friends with little remorse, helping Lev because her life was saved while just prior she had no hesitation killing Joel immediately after he clearly saves her life from a zombie horde. I never liked her and I feel cheaply manipulated throughout this whole game having to play her. It wasn't done right whatsoever from a narrative perspective.

Technical: The only reason why I didn't give this game an absolute 0 is because of the rest of the team that actually gave me an awesome product that I did expect. They worked really hard, apparently too hard judging from the news of bad business practices by Naughty Dog. The visuals playing on the PS4 Pro were some of the best I've ever seen. The gameplay mechanics are definitely a welcomed upgrade and the expanded accessibility options allow me to fine-tune the controller for being disabled. I'm also appreciating this work which was transferred to the Part I Remake for PS5. The whole Seattle open-world section I was very impressed with. The guitar playing, animals, environments, sound effects, music, added violent realism: all quality driven and very welcomed.

This is primarily a story-driven video game. Without a compelling (and coherent) story, it is purposeless to produce, own, or play. In fact, after a while, I just stopped playing the story altogether and I only played the encounters. I've gone through it several, several times and I just can't anymore. It is so boring and bloated. I don't actually mind the slower pacing, but the timeline-jumping is like a schizophrenic teenager telling me an unrealistic story who has never stepped foot outside in the real world and tried to survive. Between Abby's body build that you'd mostly achieve on a meat-hoarding, testosterone diet while competing at the CrossFit games for years and pregnant Mel doing rope climbs on security patrol with a rifle and a backpack equipped, I don't think the people at Naughty Dog understand much about facts and reality. I could also tear up every other character in this game as a shell of their former self, or shallow, or morally atrocious while trying to be convinced otherwise, but that idea is just too exhausting because there's so much that went wrong here. I could expand upon the fact that every plot point only exists by pure, miraculous coincidence, but again, exhausting.

I really, really tried to like this game...

I actually hate this game and I wish it didn't exist. I am personally considering nothing past Part I as canon material. This game is irredeemable, narrative trash. So fitting, being released in 2020, I think...

    - Every body loves Joel, the manly survivor that protects a little girl, and ultimately becomes like a father figure for her. Beautiful story in the first game.
How do 2. game start off?
    - Joel, who survived 1000 zombies, get killed by a woman with a golf club. Yes. A strong survivor who fought out 1000s and 1000s of zombies, gets killed, in the beginning of the game, with a golf club, by a woman.
This is nothing more than pandering to the "new ideology" where "men is bad" and "women is strong".
After that, you are *FORCED* to play as the women who just killed you. That is just awful. What the f _ _ _ was the developers thinking? (Spoiler they weren't thinking)

This "game" is the biggest disaster in gaming history, nobody likes it, and Metacritic and Sony have to work very hard to hide the fact, that this game is hated by everybody. 0/10. If I could give a negative score I would have.
